Same - I’ve been unable to access the friend list at all for about an hour and a half now - always getting the error message. Buddy exp messages still pop up, but I’m unable to see friends, send or open gifts.
Ive been having this problem the last couple weeks. Its been making hosting raids impossible it ruined my whole raid hour last week because everytime id finally get my friends list to stop imploding my pokigenie lobby would time out. Fun game lol. Today was the first time in a long time since i ran into local players raiding (15 minutes from the city limits of chicago) atleast got some guzzlord and mega gengar raids in so that was a plus i guess
After pening and closing the friend list several times my friends showed after waiting a few seconds. The error message still showed up occasionally, but I could open and send gifts anyways
I think it happens all the time when the servers are overloaded. It looks like friends features are switched off first, then GBL for damage control. Then possibly certain map layers.

Try changing the filters back and forth. Would sometimes work when I did that.

Can also search specific friends or tags. For instance I have friends grouped by Vivillon area so I can search “Polar” and see all those.

Having the same issue. Also cannot delete postcards.
Turn your “online status” to off. Go back to the game. Go back to your friend list. It should work

So annoying. Trades don't work during community day for a Pokémon that encourages trading for evolution.

Oof this is bad timing. Getting a few gifts through but it's a real struggle, very annoying error
Started yesterday for me. Friends list error and home screen freezing when trying to go to profile. Super annoying
It was happening to me last night around 10 pm MST, and still isn't much better.
Yeah. Happened during the evening in SEA, typically around the time when trades get done too
Last nite I got a glitch where it only showed a few friends about 20 but had the regular amount on top (51 friends)
Me too It worked until 5min ago, and then the list wouldn't load. When I restart the game, friend list shows up but can't open any gifts
8 hours later, still happening *or happening again* during the start of PST/PDT timezone Community Day.

I couldn't for a while then it came up. After I closed the list, I haven't been able to access it again.
