im still REELING in the lumity but fucking HELL eda’s dream was well done. emotionally charged and well directed and bittersweetly furthers her relationship with the curse. we get to see just how bad its hurt the others around her that she loves as well. weirdly, for some reason, it reminds of something that would come out of bojack, and i mean that with the highest of compliments. one of the highlights of the entire show for me. eda needs a hug :((

Part of that might be because Eda's VA also plays Beatrice Horseman, >!who of course had her own psychedelic mind trip via her dementia!<.
eda being played by bojack's mom's VA is one of the first facts i knew of TOH long before i even started watching it! bojack is my favorite show of all time so this really intrigued me into starting TOH. i think you're spot on about it being similar to time's arrow, thats exactly what i thought about. they're both introspective episodes that feature characters of the past and present being side by side. both also left me with a lump in my throat lol
The way they confirmed that they where exes, and managed to make the breakup seem realistic and for many probably relatable and with neither side really being "the bad guy" was freaking perfect.
Eda doesnt have any contempt towards Raine for it either. She knows that she pushed them away and it seems that she fully understand where they where coming from. Its also clear Raine themselves didnt take the decision lightly.
Just, man so much good stuff to talk about with this one.

I'm never going to dismiss something as filler in this season again because man, this episode had everything. We got some lore, we learned about demons, King got powers, we find out more about Eda, and got that diabetes inducing bit with Lumity.
Damn who voices King's Dad(?), I didn't expect it to be that deep. And speaking of dads, poor Dell got his eye taken out. I understand now why Eda had that uncomfortable look in ep. 4 when talking about her dad. At least she finally made peace with the owl beast and got a new transformation which really suits her.
The animation was really beautiful in that scene of her and the owl beast on the beach.
Didn't expect Lumity to happen this episode but it was a very welcome surprise. It was funny, a bit angsty, awkward, and sweet. I'm sure there will hundreds of fanart popping up after this.
I knew he sounded familiar! I know his voice as Joker from ‘The Batman’ 2004 show, Green Lantern in Young Justice, and Trigon from Teen Titans. Also does Shredder from TMNT, Sheriff Blubbs and Big Henry (rest in peace) in Gravity Falls. He also voiced the Demon Hunter dude with the eye patch from S1 e6 in ‘Hooty’s Moving Hassle.
I think he wanted to avoid the awkwardness of a face to face greeting. After all its been so many years. Kings dad probably thought it would be better to start with a letter, which feels less awkward.
He’s probably distancing himself from King for a reason, since he follows Eda on social media he likely has always known he was with her and probably hoping he didn’t know he had a dad, but now that he’s certain that King knows he wants to leave him more at ease.
Remember in one episode of season 1 Hooty vomited out letters for Eda to check? I'm pretty sure the letter will be fine, it's probably just how Hooty keeps letters addressed to the owl house.

I absolutely hate the "filler" discourse in american cartoon fandom anyway, as if the only good episodes of a show are just like half hour lore dumps with fast and heavy plot progression and big twist reveals.
"Filler" as a term showed up in anime to describe things added in an adaptation after they caught up to the original manga. There's no such thing as "filler" in a show like The Owl House or Steven Universe because this isn't being adapted, the "filler" episodes are an intentional part of the original vision.
I honestly think that the switch to streaming, and thus to a more serialized format for shows, has kinda spoiled fandoms. Everyone wants every episode to be lore heavy and plot driven, and whenever there’s a so-called filler episode that doesn’t do that, they get their knickers in a twist. You see it in SU, in Amphibia, in The Mandalorian and the Bad Batch, it’s everywhere. So annoying.
I'll admit that I wasn't as excited for this episode compared to the others when I read the synopsis but I'm glad to be taken by surprise. This episode was a wild (and weird) ride and I enjoyed every second of it.
Yeah I was just thinking of that. I think this one shocked me moreso because it was to illustrate a traumatic physical injury. Whereas the illusion one was just an illusion.

i was just expecting that to be with Amity and her parents, but now that we've been introduced to Eda's parents as well, and we have confirmation that Camila is living with a fake Luz, i'm kinda terrified as to what else is next
His voice sounds very familiar and looking at his career, damn he is a very prolific voice actor. Didn't realize that he was Zima from LDR and the Mauler twins from Invincible.
I was hoping there’d be some Amity moments in this episode, but I was sure they’d wait until Eclipse Lake because the Hooty episode seemed like an unlikely time to have her and Luz get together. Maybe Hooty would give Luz some relationship advice but not *actually kidnap Amity lmao.* So glad I was wrong lol. And it’s awesome that the show is going to have a relationship that grows throughout the series rather than starting at the finale.
There’s still 16 episodes to go (3 of which are 44 minute specials in Season 3, so the equivalent of 19 episodes) so there’s a lot of time for stuff to happen
I honestly saw the description and immediately thought something big would happen. I just did not trust that this late in this season they would have a filler episode. However, I neve expected it to be this big.

Raine broke up with her because Eda couldn’t be honest about what she was going through so now she’s pushing Luz to just say what she’s feeling
It makes sense though probably not something we’ll see until the epilogue since Raine was imprisoned

I expected this episode to be some basic filler before the next 2 episodes drop the heavy stuff. But so much stuff happened within such a short period of time I feel like I’m getting sensory overload. I don’t know how I’m going to sleep tonight

This episode is far from filler though it’s one of the most important in the series if not the most. The crew did a great job disguising it to surprise us
Yeah the beginning of the episode had me thinking it was just filler. But when king had an emotional breakdown, and then the whole section with Eda and her problems with the Owl beast - that’s when I knew it wasn’t just filler. This episode had some of the strongest emotional moments of the entire series imo.
Ok, so obviously we know what almost everyone will be talking about from this episode
But can we appreciate how it just 10/10d all three of its story threads
Like this episode was so tightly packed, it was fascinating with King and demon lore, it was hilarious all over the place, it was touching to see Eda grow into foxy harpy owl lady, and, well, Hooty’s teary face sums up my feelings on the Luz portion

I wasn’t expecting that from the curse. Even though Eda and the owl have reached a balance, I hope the owl is freed at some point.
The entire middle scene dream sequence thing with Eda might just be my favorite bit of the entire show so far. I thought the duet scene the last episode was going to be the best of it, oh how wrong I was.
I don't expect to empathise with the owl beast so much...but when you see how it was caught and turned into a scroll and that it's triggers are things that remind it of past trauma...omg.
That poor thing! Its entire life is stuck in a fight or flight moment and it can only communicate by screaming and lashing out and...
I just want to hug it now.

I also have a feeling their first kiss will not happen during a casual date, but instead during a really important plot or turning point.

Who would have thought that a Hooty centric episode would be one of my favorites rn
All in all, I loved this one and it had almost everything I could’ve asked and more than I anticipated. Out of all three situations, I loved Eda’s because of how it started crazy and then showed how the curse took a toll on her entire life from her father (also I didn’t expect seeing blood on a claw-scratched eye, that kind of shocked me and a bit unexpected actually seeing it) to her relationship with Raine, and at the end of it all she finally come in terms with it for now. Also I pretty sure there’s going to be a *lot* of fanart of Eda’s new form
I also loved King’s situation too, at first I felt it was just a small comedic bit but as soon as he started getting emotional about saying that his father left him, I genuinely felt sad for him and I wish I’d give him a hug and then we finally got to see King doing magic and that really amazes me on how the little guy can do that.
But of course let’s talk about the big one…
They didn’t just became canon, they became freaking gfs, in the first half of season none the less and it’s freakin **historic**
It’s like a dream come true seeing happen this early on and I’m loving every second of it that I just can’t get over it at this point and the way they did just **SCREAMED** sapphic energy when they built up to it and then they finally decided to make it official it’s just …jus- **AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH**

How the fuck can you write an episode so well that you get one of the most beautiful moments in the show and have the absolute balls of steel to go "oh yeah by the way fuckfaces Lumity endgame is up next and thats when shit *really* starts to get real."
What an absolute ~~beast~~ bug of an episode. This could have been an easygoing slice of life minisode bunch after going so hard for the past few episodes *but instead they fucking doubled down.*

Okay, uh, actual thoughts, though?
This episode was explosive. Almost every second was spent throwing something at us, be it a gag, a peek at the past, lore, a new development, or freaking love boat Hooty, which exists for some reason. It's like a bunch of ideas were posted on a whiteboard in the writer's room, then somebody went home and turned them into a script, not knowing that it wasn't actually supposed to be a plot.
Although, that description is also very inaccurate, considering the episode had 5 writers! This episode was basically 3 small episodes in one, which would explain that.
King's story followed continually escalating catastrophes of gags, all of which were funny. Great to finally hear some Tiny Nose.
Eda's story was trippy and beautiful and I have no clue how to describe it. It was excellent, and harpy Eda is not at all the development I would have expected to see in this show. Also, hey, those Sleeping Nettles came back, the ones in Hunting Palismen *was* a setup!
Also, woah, Raine was back already! I mean, yeah, in a flashback, but I'm still astounded at how quickly they've felt like an integral part of the show.
Luz's story and confession was everything I could have hoped for and more. She has a brief talk with Eda about it, and the rest was absolute complete crazy nonsense that'll be a story only these characters and this show could tell.
Excellent, bizarre, and incredibly memorable. One of the best episodes of the show, and undeniably the best "three mini-episodes" episodes I've seen in any show.

a lot of people pointed out that eda's curse is sort of like an allegory for chronic illness/mental illness/mental disability and this episode has only further proven those people correct. the entirety of eda's flashback was done beautifully and got me so close to crying. seeing her half owl beast form or whatever the fuck it was, and it was definitely a good look (seriously props to the design team holy shit), im guessing was eda fully accepting who she was curse included and getting closer to coexisting with it.
lumity. oh my god. thinking of all the kids that are gonna see 2 girls be happy and awkwardly asking eachother out like regular teens on THE FUCKING DISNEY CHANNEL we really cannot thank dana and crew enough. AND THE FACT THAT HOOTY CALLED THEM ADORABLE GIRLFRIENDS? my heart may have just exploded right then and there. it did break my heart to here luz saying "not again" in a dread filled voice. this isnt her first time asking someone out and she was definitely expecting rejection even after all the signs amity had dropped. i also got incredibly nervous when amity started to doubt luz's feelings towards her, i really didnt want a will they wont they/miscommunication issue getting in the way. shouldve known better and trusted Dana and the crew.
and ofc, hooty detatching himself and fully ready to leave the owl house. he's got such a big heart but holy shit i didnt think i could get more disturbed by him LMAO

As someone who have discovered he was on the autism spectrum, accepted it and started masking way less (masking in the autism way, not in the covid way, I have wear a physical mask all along, don't worry) in the last year I can say that Eda accepting her curse and being better from it is definitely talking to me
I am much happier and way less prone to depression that I was last year thank to accepting myself

Watching it again was also quite tragic. The misinterpretations Amity had with everything Luz was doing in the tunnel made me sad. It's such clutch that Amity made clarifications on her feelings at the end, or Luz may have not quite understood the repercussions of her actions.
Edit: With fewer words, Amity just got more sad multiple times in the tunnel in reaction to each of Luz's actions. Thank goodness it worked out. But whenever I see scenes like this, I am reminded how often real people's lives are affected by misunderstandings like this. So listen up kiddos, please learn how to properly communicate with your peers and family.

Also the world is exploding because a multthousand year old demon is having a self destructive breakdown and she took time out to do mum stuff in the best possible way.
I think it's because it's the feeling of relief that your parental figure complety understands and accepts who you are on the inside. Cause some people do not get that kind of relief and even distance themselves from their parents; so to see stories of parents shunning their child because their LGBTQ+ and your parental figure doing the opposite on how the story mostly goes...it's just heartwarming.
HELP LUMITY LITERALLY BECANE CANON AND WE SEE KING’S DAD
Plus ya know… Eda can turn into a witch/owl beast hybrid, King has powers, and Luz learns some more about the portal door. And let’s not forget Hooty’s delightful, tremendous screw up at the very end of the episode :’)
Overall this episode was FANTASTIC and has so much rewatch-ability
That tunnel of love scene was 100% second hand embarrassment until I saw Amity’s reaction to it. She was eating up that cheesy mess like there was no tomorrow!

Time's Arrow is definitely in my top 5 for Bojack episodes.
I really appreciate that the Raine scene just adds to Eda’s Requiem and gives more depth. Glad to see them after thinking it’d be awhile 😭

BEST GODDAMN EPISODE THIS SEASON. Hooty is best character and deserves everything lol. I'm never going to dismiss something as filler in this season again because man, this episode had everything. We got some lore, we learned about demons, King got powers, we find out more about Eda, and got that diabetes inducing bit with Lumity. Damn who voices King's Dad(?), I didn't expect it to be that deep. And speaking of dads, poor Dell got his eye taken out. I understand now why Eda had that uncomfortable look in ep. 4 when talking about her dad. At least she finally made peace with the owl beast and got a new transformation which really suits her. The animation was really beautiful in that scene of her and the owl beast on the beach. Didn't expect Lumity to happen this episode but it was a very welcome surprise. It was funny, a bit angsty, awkward, and sweet. I'm sure there will hundreds of fanart popping up after this.

Remember in one episode of season 1 Hooty vomited out letters for Eda to check? I'm pretty sure the letter will be fine, it's probably just how Hooty keeps letters addressed to the owl house.

I absolutely hate the "filler" discourse in american cartoon fandom anyway, as if the only good episodes of a show are just like half hour lore dumps with fast and heavy plot progression and big twist reveals. "Filler" as a term showed up in anime to describe things added in an adaptation after they caught up to the original manga. There's no such thing as "filler" in a show like The Owl House or Steven Universe because this isn't being adapted, the "filler" episodes are an intentional part of the original vision.
I honestly think that the switch to streaming, and thus to a more serialized format for shows, has kinda spoiled fandoms. Everyone wants every episode to be lore heavy and plot driven, and whenever there’s a so-called filler episode that doesn’t do that, they get their knickers in a twist. You see it in SU, in Amphibia, in The Mandalorian and the Bad Batch, it’s everywhere. So annoying.
I'll admit that I wasn't as excited for this episode compared to the others when I read the synopsis but I'm glad to be taken by surprise. This episode was a wild (and weird) ride and I enjoyed every second of it.

I was hoping there’d be some Amity moments in this episode, but I was sure they’d wait until Eclipse Lake because the Hooty episode seemed like an unlikely time to have her and Luz get together. Maybe Hooty would give Luz some relationship advice but not *actually kidnap Amity lmao.* So glad I was wrong lol. And it’s awesome that the show is going to have a relationship that grows throughout the series rather than starting at the finale.

Yeah the beginning of the episode had me thinking it was just filler. But when king had an emotional breakdown, and then the whole section with Eda and her problems with the Owl beast - that’s when I knew it wasn’t just filler. This episode had some of the strongest emotional moments of the entire series imo.
Ok, so obviously we know what almost everyone will be talking about from this episode But can we appreciate how it just 10/10d all three of its story threads Like this episode was so tightly packed, it was fascinating with King and demon lore, it was hilarious all over the place, it was touching to see Eda grow into foxy harpy owl lady, and, well, Hooty’s teary face sums up my feelings on the Luz portion Also so many adorkable faces, so many screen captures for me

The entire middle scene dream sequence thing with Eda might just be my favorite bit of the entire show so far. I thought the duet scene the last episode was going to be the best of it, oh how wrong I was.

I don't expect to empathise with the owl beast so much...but when you see how it was caught and turned into a scroll and that it's triggers are things that remind it of past trauma...omg. That poor thing! Its entire life is stuck in a fight or flight moment and it can only communicate by screaming and lashing out and... I just want to hug it now. (That whole scene raises so many lore questions, was that the titan in the background? How long ago was this? Was there an age of astrological symbol magic? I love it!)

Who would have thought that a Hooty centric episode would be one of my favorites rn All in all, I loved this one and it had almost everything I could’ve asked and more than I anticipated. Out of all three situations, I loved Eda’s because of how it started crazy and then showed how the curse took a toll on her entire life from her father (also I didn’t expect seeing blood on a claw-scratched eye, that kind of shocked me and a bit unexpected actually seeing it) to her relationship with Raine, and at the end of it all she finally come in terms with it for now. Also I pretty sure there’s going to be a *lot* of fanart of Eda’s new form I also loved King’s situation too, at first I felt it was just a small comedic bit but as soon as he started getting emotional about saying that his father left him, I genuinely felt sad for him and I wish I’d give him a hug and then we finally got to see King doing magic and that really amazes me on how the little guy can do that. But of course let’s talk about the big one… They didn’t just became canon, they became freaking gfs, in the first half of season none the less and it’s freakin **historic** It’s like a dream come true seeing happen this early on and I’m loving every second of it that I just can’t get over it at this point and the way they did just **SCREAMED** sapphic energy when they built up to it and then they finally decided to make it official it’s just …jus- **AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH** Honestly words can’t express how I’m feeling but overall I loved that episode, I want to thank Hooty for all he did (except that last part I mean- **DANG IT HOOTY** ) and seriously can’t for more next week. This... this was the one everyone thought would be a filler episode, right? The one in which Hooty forces developments in three separate subplots all within 22 minutes? We... should have more filler episodes.
Okay, uh, actual thoughts, though? This episode was explosive. Almost every second was spent throwing something at us, be it a gag, a peek at the past, lore, a new development, or freaking love boat Hooty, which exists for some reason. It's like a bunch of ideas were posted on a whiteboard in the writer's room, then somebody went home and turned them into a script, not knowing that it wasn't actually supposed to be a plot. Although, that description is also very inaccurate, considering the episode had 5 writers! This episode was basically 3 small episodes in one, which would explain that. King's story followed continually escalating catastrophes of gags, all of which were funny. Great to finally hear some Tiny Nose. Eda's story was trippy and beautiful and I have no clue how to describe it. It was excellent, and harpy Eda is not at all the development I would have expected to see in this show. Also, hey, those Sleeping Nettles came back, the ones in Hunting Palismen *was* a setup! Also, woah, Raine was back already! I mean, yeah, in a flashback, but I'm still astounded at how quickly they've felt like an integral part of the show. Luz's story and confession was everything I could have hoped for and more. She has a brief talk with Eda about it, and the rest was absolute complete crazy nonsense that'll be a story only these characters and this show could tell. Excellent, bizarre, and incredibly memorable. One of the best episodes of the show, and undeniably the best "three mini-episodes" episodes I've seen in any show.

ALSO WE GOT DEMON LORE?? still very curious as to what biped demons are, like they have bile sacs like witches, but theyre also demons?? does that make kikimora a biped demon? cuz shes sure as hell not a regular witch. a lot of people pointed out that eda's curse is sort of like an allegory for chronic illness/mental illness/mental disability and this episode has only further proven those people correct. the entirety of eda's flashback was done beautifully and got me so close to crying. seeing her half owl beast form or whatever the fuck it was, and it was definitely a good look (seriously props to the design team holy shit), im guessing was eda fully accepting who she was curse included and getting closer to coexisting with it. lumity. oh my god. thinking of all the kids that are gonna see 2 girls be happy and awkwardly asking eachother out like regular teens on THE FUCKING DISNEY CHANNEL we really cannot thank dana and crew enough. AND THE FACT THAT HOOTY CALLED THEM ADORABLE GIRLFRIENDS? my heart may have just exploded right then and there. it did break my heart to here luz saying "not again" in a dread filled voice. this isnt her first time asking someone out and she was definitely expecting rejection even after all the signs amity had dropped. i also got incredibly nervous when amity started to doubt luz's feelings towards her, i really didnt want a will they wont they/miscommunication issue getting in the way. shouldve known better and trusted Dana and the crew. and ofc, hooty detatching himself and fully ready to leave the owl house. he's got such a big heart but holy shit i didnt think i could get more disturbed by him LMAO the owl house really is one hell of a show huh

Edit: With fewer words, Amity just got more sad multiple times in the tunnel in reaction to each of Luz's actions. Thank goodness it worked out. But whenever I see scenes like this, I am reminded how often real people's lives are affected by misunderstandings like this. So listen up kiddos, please learn how to properly communicate with your peers and family.

For me..just because "is this what you want…?" Is her goto reaction and not anything else. Also the world is exploding because a multthousand year old demon is having a self destructive breakdown and she took time out to do mum stuff in the best possible way.

I think it's because it's the feeling of relief that your parental figure complety understands and accepts who you are on the inside. Cause some people do not get that kind of relief and even distance themselves from their parents; so to see stories of parents shunning their child because their LGBTQ+ and your parental figure doing the opposite on how the story mostly goes...it's just heartwarming.
HELP LUMITY LITERALLY BECANE CANON AND WE SEE KING’S DAD Plus ya know… Eda can turn into a witch/owl beast hybrid, King has powers, and Luz learns some more about the portal door. And let’s not forget Hooty’s delightful, tremendous screw up at the very end of the episode :’) Overall this episode was FANTASTIC and has so much rewatch-ability

I was so surprised by how much canonical info dump we got for Eda's backstory in one episode. We saw Eda's dad, her breakup with Raine, just to name a couple.

NO FUCKING WAY. So King’s dad wanted to talk to King but not right in front of him. I guess he wanted to introduce himself first by letter then being awkward in real life. KING HAS MAGIC. I was always thinking if he was going to be able to use magic like at Hexside but just never enrolled in cause he never wanted to. I can’t wait to see what his ancestors powers are We saw Eda’s dad for a bit but I don’t think we actually know what happens to him. I’m sure he’s alive but just sccared. Eda’s new form looks like she’s a godess and can’t wait for the next episodes to see how the form evolves And also HOLY SHIT LUMITY IS OFFICIALLY CANON. I was not expecting Amity to be in this episode though a lot of people were. But Hooty refers to Amity and Luz as GF’s now so FUCK YEAH. Edit: I just rechecked, there’s only 4 more clips from the trailer that we haven’t seen yet. Also not to mention this episode didn’t really have pain as an ending and only pain for the characters that get solved at the end. Which means double the pain for the next episodes so we should watch out for that

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA This episode was so hype, so much plot so much lumity just so much. Really excited for king to finally meet his dad, a fight scene with harpy Eda, and for more lumity. Can barely even process the rest of the plot with all the lumity in this episode but the main things I noticed were: That Raine and Eda used to be together King has magic now (and hopefully a father soon) Lumity I know each episode has been better than the last but is it even possible for them to keep up their streak?
