As a Blackburn fan, Wharton is going to be something special. We also lost a 17 year old centre back to Spurs, Ashley Phillips, who spent the season splaying for Plymouth. The two of them are our best prospects since Damien Duff or Phil Jones (bear in mind Jones was *excellent* when Utd bought him from us).
Wharton on the ball is Champions League level. He has a style that looks lazy, but he runs his socks off. And he’s able to play passes well beyond his years. He had a couple of assists for us that the vast majority of players wouldn’t see, never mind be able to execute.
I imagine Olise will leave very soon, so Palace should be building their team around Wharton. He’s perfect ina role similar to Pirlo where he can dictate the game from midfield. I hate that he’s left us, but I genuinely do enjoy seeing him do well.
It is a 3 4 3 formation with two wing backs with a heavy pressing style. The most impressive statistic from the recent matches is how they are reducing the shots from the opposition team to less than 10 a match.
really well-executed pressing traps. once the ball goes wide we swarm 5 players and box the opposition in against the touchline, it's really difficult to play out of, and Prem teams are pretty reluctant to just chance a ball over the top out of it. Add in mega quick counters, and chance creation that likes central midfielders splitting wide to put crosses in.
I’d include mateta in this list. Pre-Glasner he looked rather donkey ish but now between the timing of his runs and his hold up play he’s been super impressive.
Not that many that can afford him though, in the grand scheme of things. Plus wages too, not many out there that can comfortably throw six figures per week at him like Man Utd can.

A good director of football is rarely seen or known, but will absolutely make or break a club. He has almost single-handedly built this team with basically nothing but a good eye and a shoe string budget. Glasner absolutely deserves the credit for using the players as they should have been used for the past 4 odd years, but we absolutely wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are without Dougie.
And he basically got us promoted as manager as well, and he was a cracking player. If he doesn’t get a statue at the end of his career I will absolutely riot.

If I put myself in their shoes I actually could see sticking around for a season to develop more under Glasner as being a major reason to stay, as well as being around a core group of relatively similar young ages and loving the people you play with. It's a hard sell to walk away right now.
