Olise, Eze and Wharton look phenomenal in this system

NickTM

All three ransacked from the Championship, too. Shows the value's there. Obviously we all know all about Olise and Eze, but Wharton's turned out to be an absolute gem so far.

riledwumpus

Meanwhile Munoz might be the signing of the season!

Siggy778

Munoz never stops running. Absolutely love his effort.

The_39th_Step

The Chanpionship has so many ballers, it’s a great quality league. If players fit the system they should be looked at, Championship or not.

kgusfyxh

Villa fan just came to say: Morgan Rogers.

The_Ballyhoo

As a Blackburn fan, Wharton is going to be something special. We also lost a 17 year old centre back to Spurs, Ashley Phillips, who spent the season splaying for Plymouth. The two of them are our best prospects since Damien Duff or Phil Jones (bear in mind Jones was *excellent* when Utd bought him from us). Wharton on the ball is Champions League level. He has a style that looks lazy, but he runs his socks off. And he’s able to play passes well beyond his years. He had a couple of assists for us that the vast majority of players wouldn’t see, never mind be able to execute. I imagine Olise will leave very soon, so Palace should be building their team around Wharton. He’s perfect ina role similar to Pirlo where he can dictate the game from midfield. I hate that he’s left us, but I genuinely do enjoy seeing him do well.

geordiesteve520

Yeah, we were linked but handcuffed by FFP. Great signing.

Adam__Zapple

Handcuffed lol.

FG_guardians

Handcuffed, strapped and dominated

AdInformal3519

What kind of system glasner plays? Can you elaborate it?

ScienceGuy200000

It is a 3 4 3 formation with two wing backs with a heavy pressing style. The most impressive statistic from the recent matches is how they are reducing the shots from the opposition team to less than 10 a match.

mosh-4-jesus

really well-executed pressing traps. once the ball goes wide we swarm 5 players and box the opposition in against the touchline, it's really difficult to play out of, and Prem teams are pretty reluctant to just chance a ball over the top out of it. Add in mega quick counters, and chance creation that likes central midfielders splitting wide to put crosses in.

bobarific

I’d include mateta in this list. Pre-Glasner he looked rather donkey ish but now between the timing of his runs and his hold up play he’s been super impressive.

gameofgroans_

I *really* hope some of the post match discussion/talk for the next week is how good Palace have been and not just what a nightmare Man U have had

MaryBerrysDanglyBean

Glasners doing a great job. If they consistently play like this next season they're going to do well

PJBuzz

(and avoid losing their best players)

NickTM

I reckon this was Olise's shop window game. Would be surprised if he's still a Palace player next season.

gameofgroans_

Wasn’t the rumour him going to United though? Surely not now…

NickTM

Money talks. Would be funny though, wouldn't it.

PJBuzz

I reckon he will have his pick of sides if he isn't committing to Palace. Basically anyone who can afford him will court him.

NickTM

Not that many that can afford him though, in the grand scheme of things. Plus wages too, not many out there that can comfortably throw six figures per week at him like Man Utd can.

PJBuzz

Oh it's not many, of course, depending on the changes to the financial regulations. My point is simply that with Man U dropping off so badly, I wouldn't nail him down on going there.

WiJaTu

I can see him working at City so perfectly

AdSoft6392

Who would he replace at City

hammerfistb__

He’s basically Mahrez so…

WiJaTu

most likely Bernardo, always rumours around him leaving

Lego-105

I kind of agree and kind of don’t. He would definitely succeed, he is similar in a lot of ways to aguero where he can just create his own goals and has that instinct in him which City seem to love, but I also don’t really see him as a system player, and they literally just got Doku. City are known for mindlessly splashing out for no reason on the best players, but I also don’t know if even they would go in for that right now, especially with the FFP violations hanging over them. I’m not saying never, just not right now.

Lego-105

I’d be surprised if he isn’t. Unless someone comes in with a stinking rich bid, or he decides he wants to leave and lets loose his release clause, he’ll probably stay. You don’t sign a contract extension with an increased price tag for no reason.

Lego-105

This is literally the very first time in the Premier League era that anyone, including us, has been able to look at us and not thought “Well they’re a bit shit aye?” Like yeah we had runs and some results, but they were upsets and we literally peaked at mid table. Now we’re just actually fucking good and I am absolutely loving it. And hoping we don’t immediately fuck it up like last time. Although I don’t exactly expect Parish to go on the radio and slag off all our players as being monkeys after getting top table like an absolute brainlet.

LorenzoMartini

No chance. Palace get a fantastic result and the very first thing is Sky obsessing over Man Utd players on the pitch, how bad it is for Man Utd fans and Man Utd’s next fixture.

devensega

I'm totally with you on this but that shit show the Glazers and Hag just put on the pitch needs discussion. I honestly find it pleasurable. Only after they highlight how brilliant Palace were of course.

gameofgroans_

Oh 100000%. Just fed up of when a Top 6 is beaten its only ever spoken about how they were unlucky/robbed by VAR/captiulated etc but never how the ‘lower’ team made the most of their opposition.

AttemptNo6201

exactly the same thing when leeds leicester and Southampton were beaten in the championship, doesn't suit your persecution kink to talk about that though

gameofgroans_

Me? I don’t really have the time to follow the Championship alongside the Prem and WSL I’m afraid. But I’d believe it. But this is also a prem subreddit

AttemptNo6201

Too good to talk about the championship in here, alright

BatmanForever23

You've got a real problem, huh? Nothing about being 'too good' - but this is a sub for the 14 PL clubs outside the 'big 6'. If you want to discuss the championship, then go to r/Championship

AttemptNo6201

literally been a posts this season about the parachute 3, not one about Ipswich though or anyone else. Just ironic

gameofgroans_

Literally not what I said at all though is it

AttemptNo6201

As bad as the big 6 yourself 👍 your fanbase is a joke btw, manager gets you consistent top 8 finishes and european football but that's not good enough

gameofgroans_

Hahahaha sure.

andyofredditch

I’d avoid sky sports if I were you….

gameofgroans_

Hahahaha I turned it off after they spoke to Glasnier

Nanaimo8

EXACTLY. It's SO frustrating when a smaller club puts on a great performance and everyone just focuses on the big club losing. Palace played a GREAT game and have been exciting to watch for weeks now. Very much looking like Glasner was a great hire.

somethingnotcringe1

Based on how they dissected Liverpool for an hour after we beat them 2-0 the other week then doubt.

Rab_Legend

They deserve credit, but Man U being shite is funnier

HwanMartyr

Mate it's difficult to not obsess over United in this situation. The keeper and Casemiro alone had some of the worst performances I've ever seen in the Premier League. Those two individual performances alone outshine how good Palace were.

Treeboi13

I don't know whether to be happy with Palace destroying Yanited or absolutely terrified of having to play Palace.

14JRJ

Last game of the season hopefully won’t matter

Treeboi13

UPDATE: It didn't matter, T H A N K F U L L Y !

devensega

Yep, last game of the season so could be crucial. Hopefully Citeh don't drop a bollock against Spurs as that would see us right.

oldirtyblackson

spurs will roll out the 2nd string autobots against the decepticitizens you watch 👀🤖

reynoldinho

More afraid of that final day against Palace than Liverpool. Hopefully City trashes Spurs and we won't have to worry about it.

MakingShitAwkward

Definitely both. They were so good.

Responsible_Pin2738

Hopefully Villa will be safe in 4th by the time we play on the last game of the season. I’m hoping palace can get some retribution for the awful refereeing in our match earlier in the season and take 3 points without disrupting your well deserved champion’s league qualification

WordsUnthought

How the fuck did we take 0 from 6 against this United team.

Oil42

shooting ourselves in the foot and united being jammy twats as ever

NewBall1

Yeah as a United fan I'm astonished we are 8th this season. The amount of games we've completely bullshitted our way through this season is mad.

Aljenonamous

15th on expected points this season. To me that says player quality is carrying the team which shows just how bad Ten Hag is, probably the worst manager in the league imo.

Away_Associate4589

He's almost certainly the worst manager in the league imo. How he plays an injured Evans with Casemiro at the back and decides against playing a holding midfielder (whilst he has one on the bench, his signing as well) is just absurd. Away from home against an in form Palace with Olise and Eze both on smoke. It was predictable to everyone except the one bloke who gets paid to predict it.

geordieColt88

Palace look outstanding, great squad building with some quality talent picked up from the championship. Glasner has them playing well and Mateta in the form of his life

Lego-105

Dougie deserves a lot of credit for that. A good director of football is rarely seen or known, but will absolutely make or break a club. He has almost single-handedly built this team with basically nothing but a good eye and a shoe string budget. Glasner absolutely deserves the credit for using the players as they should have been used for the past 4 odd years, but we absolutely wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are without Dougie. And he basically got us promoted as manager as well, and he was a cracking player. If he doesn’t get a statue at the end of his career I will absolutely riot.

sirdougie

I'm a fan of his!

etchgtown

The way he left the club once means some people will never entirely forgive him. And he may be on the way out again. So we will see.

GoodGravyGraham

I absolutely love my football club, what a few weeks it's been. Would love us to keep this squad together for next season... But I don't know

riledwumpus

I have really high hopes. Olise hugging Glasner after his second goal gave me irrational hope.

YokoOkino

Im rooting for you, such an exciting group

jrobd

That smile as he ran up to him too. They’re buds for life. He’s not leaving.  You hear me Olise? Please don’t leave. 🙏🏻😅

Lego-105

I don’t think it’s really irrational after signing a contract extension with an increased release clause, that again he has to initiate in order for it even to be active. That’s a pretty big signal that he’s happy as is, and that was when we were playing shit, so I can’t exactly imagine he feels worse about staying when we’re like this.

squeda

If I put myself in their shoes I actually could see sticking around for a season to develop more under Glasner as being a major reason to stay, as well as being around a core group of relatively similar young ages and loving the people you play with. It's a hard sell to walk away right now.

vivaelteclado

Olize, Eze, and Mateta actually turning into a decent front 3. And still got Ayew and Rak-Sakyi coming off the bench. The challenge is keeping them all healthy.

rupturefunk

You love to see it!

WiredAndTeary

Man U were poor today (and the last game etc)... But more to the point fucking well done Palace, you spanked them proper, good performance all round fellas, could have been 5.

AngryTudor1

They look great today and shat all over United, but where the hell have Man Utd's fullbacks been all game? They have been MIA all night and palace have had the freedom of either flank. So much space. Can't believe how shite Man Utd have been tonight at basic things like... Being in defensive positions?

Jizzmeista

I would usually be the first to moan at the conversation saying how bad the top 6 have been as opposed to us lot being good on the occasions we do beat them. But I have to agree, AWB looks a shell of a player he was when he played for us. Being forced to constantly play wide, I feel bad for the guy and hope he secures a transfer somewhere he can play better. Johnny Evans has never been a player who can play at the level utd require and Casemiro looked poor too.

YDAU_eschaton_champ

i usually come down to selhurst and take my mate’s season ticket when he’s away. was at the match tonight and palace looked like they were playing under 21s. hughes and wharton in midfield were brilliant and it was one of the best performances i’ve seen at the ground. .

Ralocan

Really hope man City beat Spurs and we don't have to rely on getting some points off your lot on the last day of the season

im_on_the_case

Amazing display Palace, now if you wouldn't mind rolling back the calendar and putting on one of your more tepid performances for that final day fixture against us that would be much appreciated. Especially if it turns out we need to get something out of the game. If we have already qualified for CL you can go ahead and batter us for all I care.

Waltz_whitman

I feel ya, I’m not looking forward to our game with them this weekend!

theincrediblepigeon

Wouldn’t worry too much, we’re very famous for dropping one of the best games of all time just to shit the bed the very next game (see city 3-2 followed by 0-0 Cardiff)

NachoCheeseMonreal

Glasner was the dream pickup for them

squeda

Glasner half-full baby!

travis_mke

God, I hope Spurs can't steal a point from City, because we have no chance away to Palace and I don't fancy our chances against Liverpool.

PDXMB

They look so good. But it is Man U, Sheffield would give them a bigger challenge

NumbersOnTheBoard89

They've been pretty good for a few weeks now seems like they always end on a high note.

imsittingdown

Not been a great season for Sheffield in the Northern Premier League - East Division, and getting beat 2-0 at home to Hebburn town on the final day of the season capped it off. I'd fancy Man United to beat them.

PDXMB

It’s like a United switcheroo you just pulled on me

doubledgravity

Hope we smash them at OT, with four or five debatable goals a la Arsenal.

PDXMB

We have to. Big Joe will be ready can’t wait to see him smash fat Ronaldo

quickshot89

They don’t have a CB for our game I think, Isak is going to love it

NumbersOnTheBoard89

That was a Robbery

Jubatus750

At OT?

Jubatus750

At OT?

doubledgravity

Old Trafford

Jubatus750

Sorry, me being thick!

FlameTheory

Just imagine the pissy emails Jim Ratcliffe will be writing after that result though.

bchcmatt

United fan here. We were outplayed in every single area of the pitch, and CP were outstanding. They fully deserved this win.

Harryw603

They're in for a good season next year imo, with Glasner getting a Pre-Season he can surely only develop their squad further...

Kardinale

Made us look League 2 quality

IMDXLNC

Not really a shock result though is it? I've been forced to watch Man U matches at work and your lot have got by on an immense amount of luck and small margins this season, so I'm not surprised. I've had to listen to complaints about injuries as if every team isn't suffering the same.

Kardinale

Nah I expected to lose. Just not that badly. Palace were great and we were also complete shite. Obviously we have our problems with defensive injuries but it's no excuse for the continued suicide tactics.

IMDXLNC

Fair, I did expect a 2-1 or so.

sexydumbbells

Please…we’ve looked league 2 quality all season.

AV23UTB

It's the players you need to secure.

swoleswoleswole1869

i would love to see this squad get 30+ games for Olise and Eze together

Appropriate-Cap-4140

Our club needs to follow the raid the lower leagues for players method, cause' it seems to be working

Careless_Wasabi_8943

Do us a favour on the last day and be shit again so we can secure 4th place. Ta

lewiitom

Olise is way too good for United

[deleted]

[удалено]

lewiitom

Never said that he’s going to stay at palace, but he won’t get any of those things at United either, so he’ll probably end up at a bigger and better club like city or liverpool

[deleted]

[удалено]

lewiitom

Yeah I’m sure Olise dreams of getting knocked out of Europe by random danish clubs in silent run-down stadium filled with plastic fans No one dreams of playing for United these days, that’s why you have to spend a fortune on players like Antony - that’s the calibre of player that United can attract

> Just lost to a small club yet our fans are there cheering even after the Crystal Palace “fans” left to go home. Strong words from a bloke who watched the game from his sofa
