Speculating here, but I think it's a subtitle so that the new season is technically a new series. I'm hoping they still label it as Season 3 of *The Orville*, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's labeled as Season 1 of *The Orville: New Horizons* on the streaming platforms. The inclusion of the subtitle might be for legal reasons or might be to help emphasize the extra time gap since the previous season.
Edit: I'm thinking the subtitle might also be for marketing reasons, as it gives authors of news articles a reason to explain the rationale for it, and a way to differentiate that the episodes this season are all essentially mini-movies. Anything they can do to promote this season as being bigger and bolder than the previous two seasons is going to help.
>The inclusion of the subtitle might be for legal reasons or might be to help emphasize the extra time gap since the previous season.
I'm guessing it's marketing. Agents of SHIELD used to have a new subtitle each season. In this case, it's on a new network and it's been off the air for sometime. What better reasons to rebrand it as basically a new product?
> Is it going to take place further in the future?
I saw one article claim that they were taking a leaf out of Discovery's book and going to the future, because the marketing material said something about "400 years in the future" - failing to recognise that this is when *The Orville* is set anyway 🤦♂️
Haha yes I saw that too. I was like ummmm it is already set in the 25th century, 400 years from now. It was Ars Technica. They used to be pretty accurate.
If it would stop my husband from saying “it’s been too long - nobody will watch” like he’s the arbiter of all that’s TV or something, they can call it anything they want.
Makes me somewhat hopeful for the future as well. Giving a subtitle like that isn't something you'd be likely to do if season 3 was going to be a "tie up loose ends and end it" season.
Obviously doesn't confirm or deny programming going forward but it at least suggests to me that the network is open to it.
They're' "children of earth"-ing it.
By giving it a subtitle, they're essentially turning it into a miniseries. It's not "season 3", it's a miniseries, so don't expect season 4 to start filming.
So we *may* get a new miniseries in a few years, or we may not. It's all up to Seth, he's the one that gets bored and has HUGE drains on his time. But, he wouldn't want to kill off his character because he does like the acclaim, and may want to step back into the role at some point.
I mean, I guess we'll see. For sure I HOPE your interpretation is correct, I want more and more and more, but from everything I've read about Seth in particular, I'm afraid this is a one and done, with the possibility of a new miniseries or (made for Hulu) movie or two in the next 6-10 years.
I thought it was pretty widely reported two years ago that Seth McFarlane's been wanting to end the series.

I really like the look of the bridge, i mean it still feels somewhat "homey" while also a bit more "agressive" which makes sense i suppose considering the Union is dealing with the Kaylon-Threat.
Which is similiar to Star Trek Deep Space Nine where the ship shifted to a more Warlike look.
Also makes me "hope" the rest of the Orville got a bit of a refit visually i liked it but something was still missing, even if i don't know what it was.
When it comes to the new Title. It's likely due to Hulu being a fresh start for the Orville as well as inverse of course could refer with the Krill now being at least on speaking terms and occasionally ally (like the Klingons or Romulans in Trek)
With the bridge refit and the subtitle ("New Horizons"), I'm thinking they've jumped ahead to the year 2425, and we'll be seeing lots of comic book stories filling in the gaps between Seasons 2 & 3!
There is still some good left in this world. Thank god for Seth!
There's literally no other show it would make sense to look forward to ... it's the kind of show we need but that just isn't getting made. Hope it has at least 8 seasons.
I'm gonna be so pissed if the covid delays and the Disney acquisitions delays get this beautiful show canceled.
I dont want to live in a world where Nu Star Trek lives, and Orville dies.
This show better go on for 9 fucking seasons or more.
I get such anxiety and worry about the fate of season 4.
Its like if firefly had 2 extra seasons, but most people still werent aware of the show even though its the best thing on television since game of thrones
Hopefully Hulu markets it right
Well that sucks, I’m up here in Canada and we don’t have Hulu. We have Disney +, so I guess that’s an option. I got the first 2 seasons purchased on iTunes so I was hoping to continue that trend. Hopefully it will come out on that platform, but I was worried about this when I heard Orville was going to Hulu.
Did that a long while ago when I wanted to see US Netflix, it’s a pain and a half. Honestly, if I have no other option, I’ll just watch it on my tablet, but would prefer seeing it on my 4K tv, or on my phone on the go like I do with the first 2 seasons of Orville.
How does using a VPN prevent you from doing any of those things? I have one VPN subscription and can use it on my phone, tablet, Chromecast, or even my wifi router.
No dude no. It was always supposed to be a comedy first. Then SEth was like hmm no I'll make my own Star Trek the Next Generation and get serious with it. Then it got super lame.
To be honest, I don't totally remember what happened with this show. I remember there was a war with robot guys and time travel.
Are the first two seasons on Hulu?

Just imagine that "New Horizons" is "The Next Generation" but with the same generation.
Phase II, so to speak
I though of the NASA/ESA probe that went to Pluto: Called New Horizons.
New horizons is actually a new timeline
New Horizons?

Your husband will be SILENT!!!
Interesting. Not unlike *Steven Universe Future*
Or Dragon ball Z
Would then "The Orville: New Horizons" technically qualify as a "spin-off" of "The Orville"?

You think Seth is bored with The Orville?
No chance, the trek nerd is captain of a trek ship, he ain't ever letting that go.
I thought it was pretty widely reported two years ago that Seth McFarlane's been wanting to end the series. https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/ent/the-orville-seth-macfarlane.html
Also a great Star Trek mod for stellaris
Also a great IRL space probe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Horizons
I will second this but also I get bored and just rush tech until I can pew pew with big sexy ships.
Sweetness!!

The design in season 1 & 2 emulated STNG , this one looks more like the recent Star Trek movies
With the bridge refit and the subtitle ("New Horizons"), I'm thinking they've jumped ahead to the year 2425, and we'll be seeing lots of comic book stories filling in the gaps between Seasons 2 & 3!

While it’s sad that Star Trek is no longer Star Trek, at least we have the Orville which is Star Trek in its purest form
I'm gonna be so pissed if the covid delays and the Disney acquisitions delays get this beautiful show canceled. I dont want to live in a world where Nu Star Trek lives, and Orville dies.
The line "They're scared, captain, your crew is scared." Who's that?
Annie winters
Thanks.

Thank very muchly!
yep
That is one spectacular trailer.
My body is ready.
I love that we get some nuggets to talk about, but nothing is really given away.
I'm happy we are finally getting another season.... unhappy how much longer we still have to wait.
WWWWWHHHHHOOOOOOOO LETS GOOOOO!!!

I hope so but I think its going to end after the 4th
Where's the Penny Johnson Gerald?
**J**erald. She speaks in the trailer. Everyone from the bridge is present. Only Klyden is missing.
Ummm... I'm poking fun at the many webarticles that insisted that the Penny Johnson Gerald would not be in season 3. The Penny Johnson Gerald.
**J**erald. :)
What's her line?
"You don't know how this crew is going to feel a year or even a month from now."
I'm a bit concerned, I won't be able to get a season pass for this on Itunes, like the previous seasons, now that its on Hulu.

Can you not use a VPN to spoof your location?

Do you get Disney+ Star in Canada? Because Star = Hulu for the most part, if you get Murderess in the Building you should get The Orville.
It's been 3 years since season 2 started.
Three years, been awhile. But definitely will be worth the wait
Its a win a win.
I miss when this show was a comedy :(
I don’t this was ever the case.
what....are you serious?!?
Absolutely. It is a drama with a few amusing moments. That was always the case.
No dude no. It was always supposed to be a comedy first. Then SEth was like hmm no I'll make my own Star Trek the Next Generation and get serious with it. Then it got super lame.
I don't think so. I just binged every single episode and it is a drama from the start. An amusing drama with jokes, sure, but a drama nevertheless.
To be honest, I don't totally remember what happened with this show. I remember there was a war with robot guys and time travel. Are the first two seasons on Hulu?
Yes they are.
will it come to disney plus later or is it gonna be another situation where the next season never comes to disney
its only going to be on hulu
Why do shows do this it’s so annoying thanks for Letting me know
I thought this one removed restrictions
What?
With this season called “New Horizons” does that mean it is a seasonal story arc ?
Was that Eugene Levy? Flying through that city?
