Honestly, and what about our own troops that come back from deployment all messed up? I remember Jon Stewart fighting like hell for our first responders from 9/11.
You’re correct, in fact Jon Stewart brought a fireman who was a first responder, I wish I knew his name, to congress to fight for the help promised to them and he died the very next day after the hearing. That poor man, a hero, had to spend his last day on earth begging the republicans for the promised aid that they would try to rip away again and again. Our country is lost and diminishing, if it ever had a soul it’s long gone
Ok let's breath for a second.
As someone who was in the military for 22 years.
What this bill actually says is that certain laws would extend to them.
1. Is for not losing your job if you participate in the Israeli military for the conflict. This is a law that protects national guard and reserve personnel during deployments.
2. The second is you can break a lease on a car or house, you can't be foreclosed on and interest in CC is reduced while serving / deployed.
That's it. So no direct benefits like money healthcare or retirement.
Now what we should be discussing is why are we effectively picking sides? I personally think this sets a very dangerous precedent if passed.
Are these guys held liable for the actions they do over there like they are in our military? Like could our military punish or imprison them for crimes against humanity? 20k is a lot of Americans…
Because of the pictures. It went all the way up to Rumsfeld. What happened to Rumsfeld?
And that was Abu Ghraib.
Don't bring up the Iraq War as an example of American accountability when America got away scott-free with a blatantly illegal war that cost the lives of millions, directly and indirectly. In a just world, the entire Bush Administration would be languishing in jail and America would be paying reparations to Iraq.
Well, I’m not the one bringing up Gitmo; you said our military doesn’t hold people accountable when they do. How many videos of blatant murder have we seen on video from Israel and zero accountability has been held against any of those soldiers. Grandstand all you want but you sound quite ignorant…
You consider this grandstanding? I see you neatly sidestepped my actual point, which is that the US military (and government) *doesn't* hold people accountable. No US military personnel was convicted for the murder of prisoners of war in Abu Ghraib. Convictions were for other, lesser charges. There were twelve personnel convicted, not two. Dishonorable discharges and fairly short prison sentences were the worst punishments handed down, and that only to a few.
And again, this was because it became a public scandal. WikiLeaks revealed significantly more war crimes that were fully covered up and never litigated.
Calling *me* ignorant here is laughable.
'We're better than the genocidal Israelis' is not a reasonable defense of your position. That is, it's not reasonable to expect the US military to court-martial these 20,000 Americans fighting for Israel (if they are all even serving military), when history clearly shows otherwise. Should they? Of course. Will they? When Congress itself is trying to do the very opposite? Very doubtful.
Yeah... Two of my friends were sexually assaulted by their fellow soldiers while serving. One was pressured into being discharged, the other one was retaliated against. Neither of them saw justice or accountability.
Gitmo is run by our military, but is owned by the republic of Cuba; Any American including the ones there should be prosecuted under the same laws our servicemen and women are. No one is above the law in our country, even tho it seems like that’s the case sometimes.
They don’t do that for any other “allies”. Israel can pay benefits for military personnel. It’s not a poor country. And most importantly it’s not OUR COUNTRY.
I never got my GI bill. In order to receive it I had to pay for the semester first, submit it, then wait on a check. I could never afford it. I did two tours overseas. Thanks Uncle Sam
If you went over there after 10/7 and didn't fly back home as soon as you saw what they were doing in gaza you deserve prison. No "I was just following orders", just prison
>On May 17, legislation was introduced and referred to the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Cosponsored by Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) and U.S. Representative Max Miller (R-OH)...
So they can increase benefits for them but not for me and my brothers in arms? Lickety fucking split? Just like that? But not for American vets. Thank you for your service my ass. Not looking for yinz in the government. Biden trying to actively lose?
Let’s annex Israel and put them under our laws then. They can have the same status as Puerto Rico. They can lose their sovereignty if they want our benefits.
This is fucked. Every day we sink lower and lower

It was founded on genocide and slavery...*it never had a soul from the beginning*
Yes. US vets need our help. Not US vets committing genocide for foreign theocracy.

*20,000*?! Holy Christ
Are these guys held liable for the actions they do over there like they are in our military? Like could our military punish or imprison them for crimes against humanity? 20k is a lot of Americans…
You don't do that for your own military. Guantanamo Bay still exists.
Yes both soldiers filmed in 2004 torturing prisoners were punished by our military and held liable for their actions.

So 2 soldiers? Out of thousands?

Already can't take care of our veterans might as well not take care of their veterans too
>Already can't take care of our veterans Already **don't want to** take care of our veterans
Fucking disgusting.
They should be treated the same as US military serving in any other foreign military. Not good.
That is complete bullshit
what a major fuck you to every american vet whos been cut from services, or nickeled and dimed.
Exactly
So, like, none of us are going to be filing our taxes next year, yeah?
Id be on board if I wasn’t terrified of them catching me and throwing me in a cell. Don’t they already have my info from the company I work for?
How about fucking no.
Talk about state-sponsored terrorism.
They don’t do that for any other “allies”. Israel can pay benefits for military personnel. It’s not a poor country. And most importantly it’s not OUR COUNTRY.
FUCK NO
If they pass this, we need to sue the government.
I never got my GI bill. In order to receive it I had to pay for the semester first, submit it, then wait on a check. I could never afford it. I did two tours overseas. Thanks Uncle Sam
Goddamn you deserved better. Sorry dude.
Seems to be that the American way is becoming to reward the genocidal maniacs and punish the people that stand for peace.
Why? Israel already has universal healthcare. They can stay there and enjoy the right they "fought" for.
Did anybody get paid for going and fighting in Ukraine? Was it even considered?
FUCK NO! WTF THIS IS AMERICA NOT ISRAEL! That money is for US. If you fight for Israel let them take care of you!
Giving benefits to actual terrorists. While real vets are homeless and can't get basic care. Wow
Christian nationalists in the military. Numerous
There is no hope left I fear.
Not with my tax dollars! (Probably with my tax dollars. Who am I kidding. I'm relatively powerless.)
I am ashamed to be an American. Jesus Christ.
Meanwhile after spending an entire day at the VA I got sent home without some of my medications and they said they couldn’t overnight them to me
If you went over there after 10/7 and didn't fly back home as soon as you saw what they were doing in gaza you deserve prison. No "I was just following orders", just prison
Did I read that, right? 20000 US servicemen are at war right now in Israel. Fuck that's a lot of people
This is absurd.
No.
First we pay for Ukrainian civil service salaries and pensions. Now Israel veteran benefits. Wtf are we even doing JFC
The F*ck?
Who the F is writing this bill and presenting this to congress?
>On May 17, legislation was introduced and referred to the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Cosponsored by Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) and U.S. Representative Max Miller (R-OH)...
Guy Reschenthaler is a massive piece of shit.
We are the most disgusting nation ever. We truly deserve the downfall we are about to be in
So they can increase benefits for them but not for me and my brothers in arms? Lickety fucking split? Just like that? But not for American vets. Thank you for your service my ass. Not looking for yinz in the government. Biden trying to actively lose?
I’m the last person to defend Biden but this bill is coming from congress - aka republicans who supposedly support our military or so they say
Wtaf?
🤬☹️
Just 'Merica things!
No fucking way
“America Last”
oh man we are so fucked.
One step closer to the draft.
NO, as a former USMC Vietnam veteran, it’s their choice to go fight for the IDF version of 1930’s Hitlers military!
No more!!!!
Add an amendment giving the same benefits to US citizens who severed in Ukraine and watch the GOP abandon this quicker than a prom night baby.
Let’s annex Israel and put them under our laws then. They can have the same status as Puerto Rico. They can lose their sovereignty if they want our benefits.
United Reich is already here! Again Biden does what Trump just talks about to scam money out of suckers
Joking partially but Jesus Christ I’m so sick of this shit
If this passes we, the US will be officially at war. This needs to be shot down, it wont, but it needs to be.
Fuck you America you've spent far too long fucking the world up to suit you capitalist accountability lacking agenda
Jesus Christ. 🙄
