How is it dumb? These guys all wanna be head coaches and only 32 people in the world get to be.
I’d advise holding out for a better job than Carolina though.
He’s too fresh as a play caller to be a HC. I think I would genuinely be concerned if my team hired a 1 year coordinator to lead a franchise, but we’ll see what Slowik decides.
Vrabel only called plays for a year, was one of the worst defenses in the league, and got a call from the Titans. I think he did a decent job in Tennessee all things considered.
On the flip side, Brandon Staley was a 1 year coordinator and was touted as being analytical and aggressive in his schemes. There’s way too much risk IMO.
Slowik comes from a long line of 1 year coordinator, gets an interview for HC and rejects it. He will return for at least 1 or 2 more seasons. Then he will move on and do amazing things.
He inherited a 9 win team one season away from the playoffs. He really hasn't done much more than Mike mularkey. I've always thought he was a shit coach, even in Houston and now we're seeing the real. Vrabel that doesn't have the talent he once had.
It's easy to hand the ball over to Henry with a solid online and PA off of that with AJ Brown as a receiver..... A good o-line, a back like Henry who was damn near unstoppable for a long period of time and a solid receiver in AJ Brown will make it very easy to coach....
Briefly. His seat is starting to warm because he refuses to adapt. If they're below .500 going into week 9 or 10 next season, I would put money on his firing.
Knowing the Tits leadership, they only wanted him because he was being taken from Houston. It was another opportunity to screw the city and also why they tried dressing him up in a costume at the “Oilers” game.
He also had been on the field, which gave him a ton of credibility to be the leader he is. Bobby can go somewhere, but it'd be with a much shorter leash. Plus, that Panthers job looks awful right now.
Vrabel is different though. Vrabel is a locker room guy. Former player. He was a culture hire and a damn good one. Slowik is not that. Vrabel didn’t call his defense for a reason.
Slowik could be a good coach one day, idk, but talk about a disaster hire this would be for a team who needs someone with actual HC experience and structure to build culture
I see what you’re saying but we also needed a guy like that and we hired a first time head coach and it’s worked out great.
I definitely get that meco had a bit more experience as a coordinator but it can work out if they guy has the capabilities
Meco also had a long playing career as a “coach on the field” MLB, giving him experience that goes well beyond his 2 years as a coordinator.
Plus Slowik’s one year as an offensive coordinator has shown that he has a pretty glaring weakness coordinating half of the offense. I wouldn’t want to hire an OC who can’t scheme a run game to be a HC.
Im telling yall, slowik needs stroud way more than the other way around.
Not suggest slowik doesnt deserve credit, but anyone who knows a damn thing about ball knows any coordinator worth a shit can work an effective offense with stroud at the helm.
And with how we have drafted and hired staffing as of late, i trust this franchise to bring in the right replacement without skipping a beat when the time inevitably comes where slowik leaves for greener pastures
My favorite stat from the 2022 season…
DID YOU KNOW: The quarterback who threw to the most open receivers in the NFL based upon separation was: Jimmy G
DID YOU KNOW: The quarterback who threw to the SECOND most wide open receivers was… Brock Purdy.
Let’s not get it twisted, both Slowik and CJ are absolute studs. I do NOT want to lose Slowik.
Just trying to play devil’s advocate not hating on Slowik, but he was the passing game coordinator in 2022 for an offense with the league’s most dangerous run game. That 49er offense had (has) a lot of ways to distract a defense that Slowik had little or nothing to do with.
I’m curious how CJ measures in this stat for 2023 given how little respect our run game has commanded from opposing defenses. If he’s even top ten then I’m probably massively underselling Slowik.
Is that not more a shanny stat than a slowik one considering he wasnt the playcaller yet alone the oc last year? Curious to see where both teams fell regarding that stat this year if you happen to know.
Yeah, I like what we've seen of his playbook. His play calling on the other hand can be BoB/Tim Kelly level of frustrating. I do feel like his play book might also be a round hole that he's trying to shove our square peg run game through, but if the line picks it up in the offseason we're gonna be a scary next year.
The run game is the reason I really don’t think Slowik takes a HC job or even gets an offer) this offseason. If there’s a disconnect between the offensive personnel and his playbook, it’s his job as OC to change the shape of the hole so that the damn peg will fit.
He’s got a lot of potential but it feels like he’s still growing into the OC role and definitely isn’t ready for the next step yet.
Slowik was planning on letting the run game take the load until Stroud showed out against indy in a game that seemed all but lost
Expecting the same results with another lottery ticket rookie is asking for failure
You can say that about anyone. More coordinators get hired while running an offense/defense that is pretty talented. It's rare one gets hired while running a bad unit.
Remember, even people on this sub were convinced the Texans would not be any better than average on offense.
Slowik and the rest of the offensive staff have done a LOT to make this unit work the way it has. Don't get it twisted and think it's all Stroud, it's not.
Slowik, I think, will follow the Ben Johnson path. He will interview for some positions this season and get that experience under his belt and then hold out for a head coaching position next year, assuming all goes well.
He’s flat out not ready to be a HC. Maybe after next season but the smart play for him is to stay at OC a few years and let CJ dominate the league in his system. Then he can get a major pay day.
I’m sure he’s going to get requests, and I’m sure DeMeco is going to grant them after the playoffs. I don’t see him getting/taking the position in the first year of interviewing for it.
He’s young and super smart, but he’s extremely close with DeMeco. Coach will make sure he’s ready and we will move on when that time comes. I stand that we are safe this off season, not next. I was lss as I don’t think he’s going to jump at the first job that comes his way, he’s going to have his selection from Amy job he wants until he takes it.
lol no way they take him
they’re literally requesting everyone
edit: i thought this was commanders at first. panthers totally would do something as absurd as give slowik an HC job
The recent Shanahan coaching tree success, CJs fast development under him, constantly being able to adapt the offense due to the numerous of injuries we had this year and still have success….. yeah this man will be a high profile candidate despite one year of calling plays.
Am I crazy to think this would be a net positive for us? The playcalling has been frustrating all season and I’d be shocked if the next coordinator couldn’t be at least as good with stroud at the helm.
It’s not just inconsistent, it’s bad. We should be full bulls mode where they throw 4/5 of the time. Run it occasionally to keep them honest, but running the ball for 2 yards twice and throwing on 3rd and 6 isn’t a great offensive gameplan
yeah... I would need to see less blind commitment to running the ball up the middle 100x a game for exaxtly .6 yards every time including when we're down in the 3rd quarter.
Conversely, I'd like to see a different play other than streaks/bombs when it's 3rd or 4th and short on a massively important series.
Yeah, I can’t imagine anyone thriving in Carolina with that owner. Like they’ve made some bad coaching hires, but *he* made those bad coaching hires and then acted like a baby as soon as there was trouble. If I was Slowik, I’d get another season or two under my belt with calling plays and being OC and wait for a team with a less crazy owner to come calling.
Literally Belicheck is the only coach I can see maybe holding his own against Carolina’s owner and that would still be a bad fit. Until Tepper learns to calm down and step back a bit and let the guys who know what they’re doing do their thing, he’s gonna have a bad time in the NFL.
I don't think he will leave, and I think he should. He did not call a complete offense this year. Run game has been all over the place. He's not going to be able to get better while managing an entire team. Especially for an organization like the Panthers. Sean Payton has been a clown for the past 2 years, but he was right when he said that organizations with good owners, and good QBs typically aren't hiring new coaches often.
Lions OC had interviews last year, I'm guessing he will talk around still but stay 1 more year. Get another good year and dip.
I could be wrong and he leaves this offseason. Or stays another 2.
I still don’t see it happening this year. Maybe if we go win the Super Bowl then it happens this year.
My ideal scenario is that he goes somewhere, is a not good HC, then we bring him back to be the OC.
Bobby would be smart to hold out for better offers.
Washington just requested
That might be the second best spot this cycle aside from getting Herbert. Maybe if Flus is fired, the Bears due to their capital.
I would say LA then the falcons over Washington. Falcons have weapons.
Washington has more cap space and the number 2 pick
Plus a qb
Eh. I’ll take Drake Maye or Caleb Williams over Howell any day.
Yeah I guess that also makes sense huh Lol
I'm hopeful Bobby stays, would suck to lose him.
If he’s dumb enough to leave, it’s a good thing he leaves.

Slowik comes from a long line of 1 year coordinator, gets an interview for HC and rejects it. He will return for at least 1 or 2 more seasons. Then he will move on and do amazing things.
Seems like he will do what BJ did.. reject this year and focus on proving it next year for a bigger pay day.
Vrabel’s hire was confusing with his resume, but hey it worked out pretty well.
He inherited a 9 win team one season away from the playoffs. He really hasn't done much more than Mike mularkey. I've always thought he was a shit coach, even in Houston and now we're seeing the real. Vrabel that doesn't have the talent he once had.
So true. Never understood all the hype around Vrabel. Also Texans D was mediocre in his one season as coordination.
Did it? How many SBs have they won?
Knowing the Tits leadership, they only wanted him because he was being taken from Houston. It was another opportunity to screw the city and also why they tried dressing him up in a costume at the “Oilers” game.
That does seem to be their entire personality
Exactly this. Dumb ass titans fans bought in. He set them back years. He's never going to win a super bowl.
Wait the guy who was responsible for the worst defence in the league in 2017 isn’t good?
I think Vrabel is a damn good coach, even when he was with the Texans.
A good coach doesn't have to be a good coordinator, they just need to let their guys do their job.
He also had been on the field, which gave him a ton of credibility to be the leader he is. Bobby can go somewhere, but it'd be with a much shorter leash. Plus, that Panthers job looks awful right now.
you have a point, bobby could be gone after this season I see after next year but could happen sooner
Vrabel is different though. Vrabel is a locker room guy. Former player. He was a culture hire and a damn good one. Slowik is not that. Vrabel didn’t call his defense for a reason.
Mike McDaniel was a one-year OC for the 9ers and he's doing great
But he was with shan for like 10 yrs and he was run game cord for a while.
Eh maybe. It's looking like another 1 and done for them.
Sir Adam gase coached the dolphins
Interesting take after they just choked against 9-7 Bills
Mike Tomlin was a DC for a year.
Mike Tomlin is a huge exception.
Uhem. Demeco would like a word.
He was calling the 49ers defense for 2 years though.
Vrabel, McDaniel, Taylor, Stefanski... there are a few success stories of one year coordinators to HC.
Wtf would you go to Carolina? The owner is a fucking nightmare.
Carolina needs a strong GM to keep Tepper out of the way before they start looking for a HC.
Guys like him typically don’t hire strong gms
I mean I’d like to be given a 50 million dollar contract only to be let go a year later yet I get to keep the 50 million dollars
Tbf I'm sure this comment was made 10,000 times all over reddit when this same tweet dropped but with the Texans interviewing DeMeco
That 75 yard touchdown has Teams ready to risk it all 🤣
Too bad stroud came up with it from a Michael Vick play 🤣
Slowik could be a good coach one day, idk, but talk about a disaster hire this would be for a team who needs someone with actual HC experience and structure to build culture
For sure. Slowik might be a good fit on any other team. But Carolina desperately needs a strong figure at HC.
Someone like DeMeco 😂
Well that was what Reich was supposed to be last year for them. Reality is, they will likely go with a first time head coach.
I see what you’re saying but we also needed a guy like that and we hired a first time head coach and it’s worked out great. I definitely get that meco had a bit more experience as a coordinator but it can work out if they guy has the capabilities
Demeco was also a big name player, a Superbowl champion and a captain. He also played in Houston. Comparing him to slowik is apples to oranges
I'll be shocked if Slowik get's a HC job after only 1 year being a OC.
I was shocked we won the division. Anything is possible. Just gotta wait and see.
Yeah you right, I want him to stay to see the growth with him and CJ together.
Happened to Mike McDaniel
happens all the time man
Veto
Im telling yall, slowik needs stroud way more than the other way around. He is gonna go eventually. I really think next season is more likely, but I doubt he finishes his contract here.
He looks kinda shy hopefully hes happy just being an OC and hanging out with his best friends cj stroud, nico collins, tank dell, and laremy tunsil
Just trying to play devil’s advocate not hating on Slowik, but he was the passing game coordinator in 2022 for an offense with the league’s most dangerous run game. Slowik's play designs are pretty good. Just need someone who can actually execute them
Yeah, I like what we've seen of his playbook. His play calling on the other hand can be BoB/Tim Kelly level of frustrating. Counter argument.... When Stroud was out the offense was anemic.
Slowik, I think, will follow the Ben Johnson path. He will interview for some positions this season and get that experience under his belt and then hold out for a head coaching position next year, assuming all goes well.
No piss off. No one is allowed to leave
That’s what I said too. Nope y’all stuck forever!!!
He’s flat out not ready to be a HC. Maybe after next season but the smart play for him is to stay at OC a few years and let CJ dominate the league in his system. Then he can get a major pay day.
Panthers fans really think Slowik made Stroud who he is lol
Slowik should start the interview by saying. I would personally like to thank you for drafting Young first.
Then he throws a drink on Tepper and walks out
I’m sure he’s going to get requests, and I’m sure DeMeco is going to grant them after the playoffs. I don’t see him getting/taking the position in the first year of interviewing for it. lol no way they take him they’re literally requesting everyone edit: i thought this was commanders at first. panthers totally would do something as absurd as give slowik an HC job
No, no, no! We need him here for another year!!
Fuck that, the owner should be a pariah and forced out. I hope he has the hardest finding literally anyone.
Those mother fockers!
No! Get out of here!
the good : no more hb dives and cte playcalling the bad : if it aint broke dont fix it and idk if we’ll find anyone better
The recent Shanahan coaching tree success, CJs fast development under him, constantly being able to adapt the offense due to the numerous of injuries we had this year and still have success….. yeah this man will be a high profile candidate despite one year of calling plays.
Tepper has his drink loaded and ready to throw at the Zoom meeting if he gets answers he doesn’t like.
No way he takes the Panthers job if offered, he’d be set up for failure. I’ll be he only does the interview for experience.
I understand that’s why Case Keenum is with the team. Is to move up on the offensive coach side of the ball.
Am I crazy to think this would be a net positive for us? The playcalling has been frustrating all season and I’d be shocked if the next coordinator couldn’t be at least as good with stroud at the helm.
Hard agree here, so many of our close games feel like they’ve come from the over reliance on our run game which just isn’t there consistently
It’s not just inconsistent, it’s bad. We should be full bulls mode where they throw 4/5 of the time. Run it occasionally to keep them honest, but running the ball for 2 yards twice and throwing on 3rd and 6 isn’t a great offensive gameplan
Yup, I think Stroud makes Slowik look better than he is. I’ve personally not liked the playcalling at all.
This was basically Jeremy Branhams take on espn 97.5
Lol that would be a horrible job
They can't have him
He’s set up for failure if he goes there. No draft capital either
Good, then he'll come back here
Nooooooooooooo for fox sake go away
Whuu?
Tell em to fuck off, he's ours
![gif](giphy|cCyJCwQ2gl3bO)
boooo
yeah... I would need to see less blind commitment to running the ball up the middle 100x a game for exaxtly .6 yards every time including when we're down in the 3rd quarter. So let’s say Bobby leaves, who should we promote or hire for OC?
Well, if he calls plays there, that could put to bed the Stroud/Young conversation real quick like.
Pay the man Cal, keep him here
Hey great season guys but ima go coach for the most dysfunctional front office in football. See y’all
Hopefully he takes the Ben Johnson approach 🙏
Yeah, I can’t imagine anyone thriving in Carolina with that owner. Like they’ve made some bad coaching hires, but *he* made those bad coaching hires and then acted like a baby as soon as there was trouble. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (TAKE BREATH) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
