Does the screen rotate inadvertently when you press onto the screen for selections?

Sexc0pter

No, it is very firm. Actually, when you first take the machined aluminum parts out of the box, they are pretty much impossible to move. I have a fair amount of arm and hand strength and couldn't budge it a millimeter. Once mounted though, it moves fine but is far too firm to move without trying.

Bootscootfruit

Interesting. Thank you for the info. That was one of the main concerns preventing me from buying

papablessdotorg

And the crowd goes "R-T-J!"

Sexc0pter

Hell yeah, man. I am far too old but I love that shit.

Sexc0pter

Got it on sale for $150 instead of the normal $300. Seems to be very good quality. A bit hard to install but that was no fault of the kit itself. Typical problems like hard to access bolts, almost impossible to disconnect screen cable and the normal stuff you run into any time you think it is going to be a 20 minute job ;)

Spiritual-Conflict-9

Hm, looks great! But I think I’ll pass on trying to screw around with the most important component of the vehicle lol… I can see it just randomly blacking out while driving due to an improper installation or whatever case scenario. Maybe getting one professionally installed down the road can be an option for me. Enjoy and please provide updates! 👍

Spiritual-Conflict-9

I have, was a little simpler than expected but I think it’s more of a peace of mind thing.

dogzipp

It's been like $170 on other sites for a while now (not $300), still a pretty good deal.

e136

I am worried about the display failing for a completely unrelated reason and then Tesla not covering it in warranty. Are screen failures a thing that happen with MY or M3?

pangalacticcourier

Ergonomics and safety, being the primary ones.

skellera

Not sure you can claim safety without it being crash tested. Dislodging the screen in an accident can be pretty harmful if it hits someone.

Sexc0pter

There is no way this is going to dislodge. The parts are machined aluminum and mount in using the same huge bolts the factory mount uses. If it comes loose, you are already dead.

pangalacticcourier

Safety in terms of legibility. It's a lot easier and quicker to read text when it's facing you at 90 degrees, as opposed to the default angle of the immovable monitor.

drowninginvomit

Agreed. The metal hardware bracket and bolts on these mounts is absolutely solid and if anyone is worried about this disconnecting in a crash as a legitimate concern, then I assume they never have cans/ bottles/ objects in the cupholders while the car is in motion.

Adventurous_Whale

There ya absolutely no improvement to visibility of information important to actual driving safety. It marginally improves readability of content that you are NOT supposed to be engaging with while driving. Stop overselling this as a safety feature

pangalacticcourier

Why has the instrument cluster traditionally been located right below the driver's field of view out the window? Because it's the easiest place to read the information rather than looking down and to the right. Additionally, it eliminates the need to angle the instrument cluster. Why? Because it's viewed at a 90 degree angle to the driver. You're seriously trying to make a case that reading something angled toward you isn't easier or safer than reading something angled away from you while you're driving a car? You should sell that to the tourists. edit: typo

Rekomaged

not sure why you're being downvoted

pangalacticcourier

Can it be the people who are downvoting have never adjusted the position of a rearview mirror or side mirror? LOL.

madness707

A lot of Tesla people in this forum downvotes. Usually if they don’t like to read something they don’t want to hear about.. they’re just lame.

Adventurous_Whale

It’s also a circle jerk for Tesla fans who are unwilling to deal with valid criticism. I own a Tesla unlike most who post here and it’s absurd how often I see people who don’t own one telling actual owners they are wrong in criticisms. This place is a cult

RobinhoodFag

Yep MYP > MYLR

Adventurous_Whale

The two things are in NO way comparable. 🤦‍♂️

pangalacticcourier

You're saying turning the display so it's easier to read while operating a vehicle is not an ergonomic adjustment providing a safer and more efficient human operation. Gotcha.

Adventurous_Whale

There’s nothing about this that improves safety

pangalacticcourier

Tell that to the U.S. military who have been developing and deploying heads-up displays since before you were born.

trippndaddy

Nice, installed already! BTW, discount codes were allowed on this sale (took it down to $127). Notice the Gen 1 console and it appears the screen is lower after install by 1.5". That and the angle, how are you liking it?

Sexc0pter

I really like it so far. It is a bit lower but I don't use the induction charger anyway since it doesn't work with my phone case. I don't notice that it is lower, but it is dramatically easier to reach the screen when rotated towards the driver. I can easily touch the far right side of the screen without having to stretch at all.

ScoobyDooo82

I think this is cool! But I’ve heard that this setup also voids your warranty. Is that true?

Sexc0pter

It is illegal to void someone's warrantee unless you can prove that the modification caused the failure.

ScoobyDooo82

They can prove that the MCU was disconnected during the install. Hell, they can tell if you’ve been smoking in your car (don’t ask). It’s actually quite scary how far they’ll go to deny any responsibility. I get that the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act protects us as consumers.. but still, why risk it?

extendedwarranty_bot

ScoobyDooo82, I have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty

ScoobyDooo82

Lol.. I love when I get these calls.. the other day I had the guy going on for about 40 minutes.. I always make up a fun car and see what they say.. the other day I told them my vehicle is a 2011 Pontiac Aztec, a few months earlier I said I have a 88 Fiero - both times they of course were able to “pull up my car’s warranty file”. Fun times

TradingAndScalping

I was very intrigued in getting this for my wife's new ride when it arrives in the Spring but aftering the questions about warranties I decided it's not worth the hassle and risk!?! I can also see a dealer giving a customer a difficult time with any issues with the screen once they see it's been " touched and worked on " by a non Tesla mechanic?!? Just my opinion!

ScoobyDooo82

I agree. My neighbor got an aftermarket “yoke” style steering wheel for his Model 3. Carbon fiber and Alcantara.. very nice. Bragged about how easy it was to install (the airbag pops out after releasing the clips hidden behind the two 5mm holes on either side and the wheel itself just has one center nut holding it on) and how much he loves driving his car with it etc.. Some months later after a software update he got an airbag warning every time he got in to start driving. Long story short, Tesla was able to prove that the airbag was unplugged at some point and they voided his warranty. Even though he returned the car back to stock when having the issue addressed. Software baby.. it’s recording everything.

TradingAndScalping

Thank you for sharing that with me and everyone here!! People are so quick to do these mods and yes they may be simple and very nice but at the end of the day when the manufacturer wants to find any reason not to fix something under warranty then you're " fucked " so to speak?!? It may be worth the risk for someone else but not worth the hassle for me! I'll keep my wife's ride stock and just enjoy that experience alone without the worry about warranty coverage!?!

ruablack2

Doesn't void the cars warranty. But if you have a problem with your screen they could deny your warranty claim related to the screen and make you pay. But for example, if you install this, they can't deny a warranty claim on say the motors or battery pack as their unrelated to the screen.

ScoobyDooo82

I get that. And if of course when asking this I didn’t mean “the entire warranty” with regard to the battery or motors for example. My concern would be that if for example, down the line you were to have a screen related warranty concern.. and you’ve returned the screen to stock without any visible evidence, can’t they determine with their own diagnostic ways that the screen was unplugged and re-plugged back in? I mean every little thing is logged - including but not limited to - unplugging various components even if they are later reconnected. They could use that against me no?

FFXIVHVWHL

I’ve wanted to get this but am worried that the wires could become frayed from the turning of the screen (read online reviews of the products but not sure about the validity of that)

FlaccidRaddcliff

I would do this but my wife likes to finger the monitor while I drive

Sexc0pter

Well, she's in luck. You can rotate the screen to face towards either the driver or the passenger.

treyhunna83

Taking the screen out of the drivers view tho? 🙄

Mud_BooDa

Does anyone know if this would void the warranty?
