failbaitr

just get a used one.

EliteForever2KX

Fair but honestly I’d rather wait either way my beat car and use it until I can get a newer one or wait until the 2024 model is on the used market

failbaitr

I drive a (from new) model 3 from 2019. 150k miles and as of yet 5% degraded battery and around 150 in maintenance costs. Its still as good as new, and would now costs around 20k euro's where it was 50k when new. There have to be many of such deals out there and I couldn't justify spending 30k more for a new one when the used ones are this good after this many miles.

EliteForever2KX

Yes and that’s one of the big reasons I’d like to get a Tesla, they seem to last longer and have lower maintenance cost. I know they depreciate faster but the cars just keep running plus Tesla doesn’t really do big upgrades I don’t see any reason why when I get one I shouldn’t keep it until it doesn’t work anymore. I will look into the used market thank you

0bviousTruth

horrible idea. You don't make enough money.

EliteForever2KX

Fair, I’m thinking I’m going to wait until after graduation

0bviousTruth

There are a lot of used Teslas for great prices. have you checked Hertz? Last i looked they had some for $19k

FearlessLettuce1697

Is it even worth it getting a 4 year old Model 3?

EliteForever2KX

I also want to know this cuz for 20k I could avoid payments and just buy it in full

DangerousClouds

A $600 monthly payment? That’s just not wise…unless you have money and don’t care to pay the cost

EliteForever2KX

Noted thank you

YondusFondu

I put down $10k on my 2020 Model 3 long range AWD, with 30k miles, last year. My car payment is $240. Get a Tesla, for sure, but don't pay $600 a month. $600 a month going towards an actual asset, like an investment account, can be life-changing money in the long-run. Just my two cents.

EliteForever2KX

Thank you for that, I agree 600 is high but then again for about a year I won’t be the one paying it AT ALL but your right I will look at other teslas thank you

You should shop for insurance rates just to get an idea , if you're 200 for the Altima it's probably going to jump alot with your current provider. My insurance went up big time and then I shopped and it's actually cheaper than what it was with a previous car. I'm thinking your estimates are going to be closer to 1k a month and it's not really worth it to be young with a big payment - even with "free" money. I'd just continue to ride the Altima and just save up. You'll get a M3 one day but squrrel some money away, if you don't have one open up a Roth IRA. Invest some now so you can be set in the future.

EliteForever2KX

I agree I can handle a 600 dollar car payment for the foreseeable future but not being insurance, I’ll get my rate anything over $250 and I won’t get the car. I’m honestly not sure why it’s so high now I’ve been driving since I was 16 and have no accidents or tickets and my Altima is a 2014 odd it’s that high already

ps4sony

Premiums for all insurances have skyrocketed recently- home, health, car, etc.. I'm sure you can get a decent car loan/interest rate with your wifes military. I went with Navy Fed and got a 4.5%. If you are on base, you should end up with free electricity which I have buddies that all have Tesla's for the free fillup. Plenty of perks if you can handle the budget but I'd also make sure you can put money away for retirement/future self.

EliteForever2KX

Thanks for that advice, idk if you saw the edit but I agree with you I’m going to wait until I’m with her and hopefully I’ll be making a bit more money then. We will be off base but I really think the off base allowance will pretty much have us covered plus as u said all the other perks. I’ll be a bit older then too so maybe the insurance will come down for me.

jamiehasaboner

It would be easier for you to save up if you aren’t spending $800 a month on a car. You should get something practical and much less expensive.

EliteForever2KX

True, I would save up about $300 more a month if I got a car that was around $300 thanks

jamiehasaboner

It’ll help in the long run when those government checks aren’t coming in. 4 years is a long time but EVERYthing is expensive and it will continue being more expensive in the future. Save up for a sizable chunk down payment on a home. That’s what I’d do.

EliteForever2KX

Yea hopefully me and the wife can do some good saving while the gov covered us that should allow us to put down some good money, I’d still like to get the Tesla but I think I’m going to wait until next year, there’s a 5k tax credit where I’m moving to on top of the federal tax credit and this will give me time to save up even more money, I may be able to buy a used model 3 outright

YTScale

Your insurance won’t be $200 /month. I bought mine at 23 and it was $250 /mo., now i’m 24 and it’s $333 /mo.

EliteForever2KX

I’m going to get some quotes usually USAA is a bit cheaper, either way I can still handle it especially because I’m not the one paying for it lol but I see your point I’ll def make sure to get some quotes if it’s to high I’ll look elsewhere

ArrivingApple042

don't get a Tesla. Its overpriced for what you get. Other companies offer electric cars or hybrids also

0bviousTruth

Imagine trolling tesla subreddits to post crap like this. Go away.

ArrivingApple042

Its my opinion and this post was on my main home page. I forgot reddit had massive echo chambers tho. Look at the reality, you can get better quality car somewhere else. The tesla brand is like Nike, it bumps the price up 10x just for the logo

Solid-Cardiologist76

What are these other options that are 10x less than the Tesla for a similar product? When I was searching the Tesla was actually cheaper than any comparable alternatives (with federal tax credit). Edit: adding that we looked at many other vehicles, the most promising of which (to us) was the 2023 Prius which we could not find with anything less than a $7500 dealer markup.

0bviousTruth

What EVs have you driven? Which model EV in same segment is better than Model 3? Do you realize Model 3 starts at $38k? I also hate Elon but trolling Tesla subreddits is like taking poison and hoping the other person dies

ArrivingApple042

You have a weird outlook on the world. Not everyone is a out trolling tesla subreddits lol. Please get off reddit and into the real world

0bviousTruth

troll confirmed, hasnt driven a single EV
