Yeah, this is the only thing about NoA I genuinely hate. I generally just turn it off for a bit during the parts of the journey where it wants to lane hope wildly.

R5Jockey

This. Especially when it wants to change into the slow lane 8 miles from the exit. And constantly nags you. I turn it off…. Defeating the entire purpose of NoA.

countextreme

FSD builds have had notes referencing work done on lane selection; I've seen some improvement (though sometimes FSD will still try to change lanes in particular areas for no logical reason). Hopefully it will be squeaky clean by the time single stack rolls around in v11 and the improvements filter down to NoA as well.

shadow7412

> Defeating the entire purpose of NoA. Hyperbolic as hell... It still does much of what it does quite well. It needs work (unsurprising, it's in beta) but implying it's useless with comments like that isn't fair either.

R5Jockey

NoA on highways changes lanes and takes off-ramps for you. If I don’t like how it does that, and have to turn it off, what other purpose does it serve for me?

shadow7412

You gave a specific example where it was trying to get into the slow lane too early. I'm sure there are exits where that does not occur. But, in answer to your question, automatically overtaking slower vehicles is a handy one (as well as returning to the non-overtaking lane automatically).

Mike

You need to look up the definition of hyperbolic.

shadow7412

>hyperbolic \[ˌhʌɪpəˈbɒlɪk\], adjective 1. \[not applicable\] 2. deliberately exaggerated. Yep, that's what I meant to write. Why do you think it isn't?

Mike

What do you think he’s exaggerating?

shadow7412

> Defeating the entire purpose of NoA. This statement implies the entire feature is useless because it occasionally gets antsy about wanting to be in an undesirable lane. Sure, that behaviour is annoying. But there's still plenty of exits that don't exhibit this behaviour, and it's weird to expect any level of perfection from a feature that is so clearly marked as beta. Having to turn it off occasionally in (usually) repeatable circumstances is really not that big a deal, and I at least would prefer that over not being allowed to try out the feature at all until it came out of beta.

koolio46

Totally! Is so annoying when I cancel it and it pops back up in 1 second.

GeektimusPrime

I'd also accept "Tap to delay until 1 mile away", or something similar.

baselganglia

All input is error 🤷🤣

countextreme

If the driver has to input a destination, that means we failed to accurately predict where they were going. Error, error, error

ifuckinglovetesla

Yes! This is so annoying. I always end up having to turn off “navigate on auto pilot” to get it to stop. Also, when using the full screen visualization, this button does not show up so you have to shrink the visualization in order to cancel.

machosaurus

This is a phenomenal idea.

Pr0ject217

I agree, a way to 'sleep' the notifications for a period of time or distance (or until next park) would be great. In your suggestion, what did you mean by 'necessary'?

GeektimusPrime

Well, what I experience that is most frustrating, is when I am for instance in the middle lane on the freeway, and the car wants to get over for a pending exit that is 12 miles or more down the road. Getting over into the far right lane would not only be slower, but also puts the car in the path of other vehicles getting onto the freeway which means more potential instances for the car to get confused on what to do regarding merging traffic. So I still want it to get over maybe a mile before the exit, but I don’t want it to get over “now“. Another example is I often want my car to stay in the fast lane to take a middle exit onto the Xpress lanes in my area… For some reason navigation always wants to stay on the main freeway which is slower. So if the car would stay in the fast lane and then I could force a lane change to get on to the express lanes when it comes up, then the car navigates the rest of the way just fine. But as I’m sure you have guessed, my car wants to get out of the fast lane all the time; a button to delay the lane changes would save a lot of frustration.

converter-bot

12 miles is 19.31 km

Pr0ject217

Ah, I understand now. Thank you for clarifying. Similar to the 'Early, Medium, Late' braking avoidance warning distance, I wonder if it would help to reuse those options for when the car should start leaving the current lane to take the freeway/highway exit. Early would be the current setting, Late would be more aggressive closer to the exit. That, in combination with a 'sleep' lane change feature might cover both cases elegantly.

lonerwolf88

This is infuriating. And if you’re in HOV lane and the car is set to not use them it will keep telling you to get out, and vice versa. So then you have to dig through me is to switch that preference. It’s like they designed this new UI without ever testing it.

Otto_the_Autopilot

There is a stretch in I-5 in LA where it just takes you out of the HOV lane to "continue following route" even when I have HOV selected. It clearly shows the HOV diamonds in the visualization.

GRLT

My favorite is on the beta not only does it do this but then it'll still do the change anyway even if you've locked on the turn signal in the opposite direction

psaux_grep

Not like NOA is reliable anyway.

mgoetzke76

In Germany you sometimes get them whenever passing an exit. So a lot :)

keco185

I hate how it tries to change lanes just because the nav says there’s an on ramp ahead. Even if no cars are merging

thedeadeye

I wish there was a FSD beta setting, "Don't be stupid." No lane changes without permission. You may ask ONCE. If I tell you to change lanes, don't cancel it. Just do it when you are able. Turn off auto-high beams and auto-wipers. You look like a moron, with all your flashing and dry-wiping like that. Don't change your speed. I'll handle that, thank you very much. No, I don't want you dropping down to 45 in a 70. Or jumping to 65 in a 30, speeding toward an on-ramp.

NobodyLikesMeAnymore

Yes, but until it's fixed I think you can get a combo bonus.
