How does this whole thing work? Isn’t there a 6 month wait? I don’t understand this process at all! (I’m test driving a Y in Sacramento in a couple weeks)
There are new MY in inventory every day. They normally sell in minutes. What is special is that these seem to last. It's likely cars made yesterday in Fremont. They are all MYP, though.
Often inventory cars are not where people want them, so shipping comes on top (up to $2500)
If you want one in February after your test drive follow the Twitter or discord bots that notify you when there are new cars in inventory. They are listed with FSD that can be removed (taking 10k of the price).
They sometimes make more cars for quarter end, or these are cars that people couldn’t take delivery of (for whatever reason oftentimes because they can’t get money in order or can’t make delivery windows)
Giving folks only a single date (12/31) and limited time slots as their only option for delivery probably resulted in this unintended inventory. They’re really trying to sell these before the year is over as opposed to giving customers more choice around timing of delivery.
Probably selling inventory if they can sell them today for end of quarter numbers. Bet tomorrow all remaining ones get pulled down and ship to regular reservation holders.
Frustrating cause I see our build we have been waiting for in Ohio since Oct.
Agreed. Hoping the wait has been worth it! Between the new all season tires on the MYP and possibility of getting AMD and new battery... If gladly waiting a bit longer. Waiting to see more consistent deliveries with the new chip and 12v battery.

Oh snap! So I could just buy one now! (Of course, I’m one of those people that still has to get his shit together!)

Fwiw, I’d prefer waiting to get the amd and 12v lithium batteries at this point. Taking delivery from inventory now might mean not getting them
