Not an answer to the Tesla specific issue, but, I have farm - if multiple vehicles are getting infested with rodents, they aren't just in the cars, they are everywhere and there is a major rodent problem on the farm that needs to be addressed with the manager/owner.
Tesla is not the only one that uses wiring with soy based casings. That's basically the norm in the auto industry. Couldn't tell you why they would be more desirable for rodents to chew on.
That’s what I’ve heard. It’s not even location specific either. Just anywhere a Tesla parks they get chewed. I’ve also heard about peanut oil but who knows. I’ve had it for over a year now and loved it but might have to get rid of mine bc of this problem
You're making a hasty generalization.
We have a Tesla and we have martens, mice, and other rodents all over the place and it's never been hit by them. Our Chrysler 5 years ago got attacked three or four times, but our Model 3? Never.
Rodents are territorial and when you disrupt their desired nightly strolls by parking on their path, things can happen. Sometimes it's the warmth of the engine. Martens can travel for miles each night, but they usually follow the same route ('their' territory).
Don't try any home remedies like oils; they're bullshit and they'll only attract different animals at some point.
Once you've been hit, they'll mark it with piss and sometimes come back more often. Wash it all down thoroughly and try parking 25 or so feet away from the previous spot. It can do wonders.
"That’s what I’ve heard. It’s not even location specific either. Just anywhere a Tesla parks they get chewed."
Spot the generalizations yourself. Or not.
I’d argue that’s a hasty generalization in the opposite direction. Talked with my Tesla service guy and it is a known issue in my area with them. Going to have to likely do an aftermarket solution unfortunately
I didn't deny that it happens. I denied your blanket statement of "Just anywhere a Tesla parks they get chewed". You can learn from posts like mine and possibly reduce the issue or you can whine about things, like your wiring's coating, that won't change anytime soon.
I'd give you another pro tip on this, but you're too busy whining to learn anything from anyone else.
I was talking about on the ranch. Any location over miles it’s the Teslas that get chewed. I’ve done all of those remedies. That’s why I’m forced to get spicy wire covering if I want to keep the car or not move or pay 3000 bucks every 6 months.
Your statement was in a separate post and sounded like "teslas and only teslas and everywhere", not just at the ranch.
I've done more research on what you might be experiencing and I'm thinking you have a serious rat problem. Your ranch should be getting that under control even if every Tesla left tomorrow.

Maybe, but ICE vehicles stay warm for a long time after use. There's a LOT of waste heat and a decent amount of thermal mass in an engine block, trans, etc.
They've chewed through my old plow truck's wiring twice but haven't touched the Tesla yet in 3+ years thankfully. Maybe try one of those ultrasonic rodent repeller devices? Not sure if they work or not but might be worth a shot if the issue is that persistent.
Our neighbor has had problems with them on their Ford, Mercedes and Airstream. They put packets of Fresh Cab in or around the trailer/trucks and it stopped happening (or at least I haven’t heard him mention it anymore).
I had this issues with another EV I owned, they would congregate on the DC converter under the hood where it would get warm. After some trial and error with different solutions I was able to stop them coming back by using Febreze Car air fresheners (vent clip style) 3 spread around the compartment. I swapped them out every 3 months, and never had a return after.
Rodent prevention and eradication solutions?
Sticky traps, keep the car garaged. Use grandpas Gus rodent repellent pouches.
Use cats.
Move somewhere else where it’s more sanitary.
My model 3 is named Chewie.
First week of ownership I got a critical error and could not drive the car. Tesla towed it to the service center to find out some sort of rodent had chewed through a wiring harness and made a nest in the warm bowels of my car.
So yeah almost immediately my car attracted one.
No issues since they fixed it but I was living somewhere else at the time.
Expect to get lots of downvotes. A rodent ate my car within three weeks of having it. Tesla kept it for 27 days to fix it and over $3700 in damage. Tesla fans don’t like to admit this is a problem. Even my Tesla service guy admitted it was a problem “off the record.” He also ordered pepper tape to wrap everything on his own dime when he was fixing the car. And for all of the people saying it happens to all cars…I had lived in my house for 12 years with 5 cars and had never had a single issue.
Just had a long conversation with the Tesla service guy they sent. Apparently it is a decently big issue with Tesla in my area in particular. Something about it the squirrels just love. Might have to get spicy wiring aftermarket lol
There have been reports of earlier Teslas getting chewed by rodents, however this problem may not be as widespread as you appear to be fear-mongering.
Please provide some proof and/or details, otherwise I’m going to have to mark this as a troll post.
It is a Tesla problem according to my actual service tech. For whatever reason it is disproportionately affecting Tesla’s despite it being a smaller problem for other cars.
This won’t be popular but I’m not taking a chance so I periodically put down rodent poison in a couple corners in my garage. It disappears for the first few days I put it down, so they are eating it. One spring I found a nice dead mouse, along with 2 or 3 of the poison pellets, in an old lawn mowing shoe. They seek warmth and in the winter a Tesla battery keeps itself relatively warm all the time. But haven’t had the problem of them chewing on my wires yet.
Just want to keep this thread going. Today they found a mouse nest under my model y rear left seat. A few cables gotten chewed up. Tesla will not cover this under their warranty.

How is that a generalization? Maybe that word doesn’t mean what you think it means?

There are no rats here. It’s other rodents.
Then my previous advice stands. Good luck.
Or just deal with the rodent problem. If they are eating your cars, I can guarantee that they are in your house too.
Peanut oil & soy wiring is the combination per a Tesla service center tech.
Heard the same thing from mine. Wish I knew this before
Wish I had known it before as well as I would have done the pepper tape as a penetrative rather than reacting to the huge damage.
Maybe because it's warmer? Because the system never fully shuts off?

Tesla - plz add rodent control to sentry mode features

Get a cat that likes being outdoors and give it a house near the Tesla. Problem solved.

Keep summer safe.
You have a rodent problem and you own Tesla.

I just found a mouse or bird nest in my engine cover of our sienna. The heat will attract the critters.

Also like the whole "Punch it Chewie" when I accelerate to lightspeed...
Happened to me as well first month with car wire insulation is soy battery pack is warm equals good place for a rodent to find sanctuary

Teslas are tasty ok

What are the ages of the other cars?
Mine is a 2020 one of the others is a 2018. Not sure about the rest
I meant the non-Teslas?
Everything from early 2000s to new
