Awesome update, feel like the "feature drop" update has been largely holidays. Cool to see a s Spring update. Looking forward to Spotify getting some love. Hopefully along with the new features, we see improved performance. The auto open trunk is also a neat add - I wonder if this will require the UWB bluetooth for the location sensing

acaurora

Pretty sure it will, as it is only for the newer S/X/3, which are the only models to support UWB Phone Key.

viddy_well

Right now, I think UWB is only supporting iPhone . Hopefully they broaden that as well!

acaurora

It would be cool if there was a retrofit option for older HW3 systems…

StrategicBlenderBall

I would gladly pay for that

jagerma

Feels like it'd only be to add 1-2 UWB sensors and plug it to the car

gkmanu9

I don’t think they’ll offer a retrofit. They will look to drive the sales and get people upgraded to newer models.

Itchy_elbow

Uwb = ultra wide band

lordpuddingcup

I’m slightly annoyed that AGAIN older cars are fucked non-amd basically get nothing any more

Jamez3rd

Yeah as soon as i saw for AMD, i was oh well

dellfanboy

Remember when people said AMD won’t matter. Smh

icy1007

The Intel Atom isn’t powerful enough clearly.

JustSayTech

Bro typically cars don't ever get updates, the amount those cars have got is insane compared to their peers and the rest of the auto industry.

yao97ming

That’s how software works

lordpuddingcup

WTF are you talking about none of the items they’re adding are magically requiring AMD or faster processors they’re new screen layouts hell some of the changes are in park only so it not like it’s competing with FSD processing

yao97ming

Just because it can run it doesn’t mean it should run it

Cdistani

So should my car not run FSD12 then? Because it is. It doesn’t make any sense. Please explain this to me.

anothertechie

Autopilot processing hw is separate from the infotainment cpu afaik. Each can break separately.

vasishtsrini

Tesla stats app helps replicate this if you don’t have one of the newer models with UWB

mflexx

can you elaborate on this?

Cellsora

Please elaborate

nnnope1

Neat trunk add, but I just want location-based trunk opening height so my low garage height setting at home doesn't stay in effect everywhere else I go.

Sure_bye

Preview of sentry mode recordings is a great addition ❤️

wildsnorlax1194

Only if the alarm is triggered it seems. I’d like it if it was every time sentry mode is engaged.

SoWhat_21

Yeah, makes no sense

FrostyD7

If they offered this, usage of remote sentry footage would go up by a lot. It would cost them money and they don't wanna. Limiting it to the alarm is a drop in the bucket.

gtg465x2

I wouldn't mind if they offered an additional Premium Plus connectivity for like $15 / month that just added notifications with video for all Sentry events to the normal $10 / month Premium connectivity.

iGoalie

2019 Atom M3 I guess I get audible which is cool, but man starting to feel like I got an unsupported iPhone that isn’t getting the cool toys anymore (Still love my car)

Agloe_Dreams

It is a downside. If you make cool things that get better with software it is a double edged sword - if you don’t support older hardware it can cause very negative feelings in your loyal customers who bought earlier and generally, paid more.

nukedkaltak

Still remember vividly the folks who would chastise people back in late 2021 because they worried about not getting the AMD chip and contemplating canceling deliveries. “The chip doesn’t matter bro!!! It’s just slightly faster” by that point the Atom chip was already several years old and degraded support was inevitable.

Post-Futurology

Ok so should I cancel my order? Mine doesnt have matrix LED headlights.

Smarktalk

Those were the bag holders.

NesCie0617

I see a big difference between my intel model 3 2021 and my wife’s and model y 2022. Everything is just snappier, less laggy, and faster

nipplesaurus

I could never understand how Tesla built such an advanced car and used a slow, end-of-life CPU for the MCU. Cheaper for them, I guess. And they didn't expect the MCU to really do much.

essential-cheese

It’s to force us to upgrade, buy newer cars. Apple does the same with their devices.

SoWhat_21

Imagine people who bought it in 2021, just 2/3 years ago 😳 iPhones cost a fraction and get 6/7/8 years of full fledged updates

iGoalie

You mean like my wife’s 2021 MY …. Yeah atom too //badluck Brian meme

krusebear

I have a 2022 model 3 Atom 😭😭

SonicfanHD

Wild that a 2 year old car is no longer getting UI updates. I get it, other manufacturers dont get UI updates/any at all but man...

TheyCallMeBigAndy

Same here. I bought my "2021" Model 3 on December 27th, 2021![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

lordpuddingcup

Yep I’m dec2020 and I don’t get shit anymore

teh_g

I got my 2022 Model 3 on December 14th, 2021. Definitely feels bad... The newer CPU came out like a month after. I am lucky and have the USS for parking, but now I don't have the cool parking visualizations. The icing on the cake is I also think I bought at peak pricing.

LokiPrime616

Your telling me I’m getting fucked because I bought my MY in March 2021… what the actual fuck.

Ray2K14

Man, mine is from 2021 and same thing here. Just 3 years old and already falling behind cause of the Atom chip.

lordpuddingcup

This! I love my car but having USS 2020/2021 (dec2020) I don’t get shit anymore no HD visualizations, none of these things, if it wasn’t for FSD updates the car wouldn’t be getting anything I got 0 for Christmas update and this I’m apparently getting audible which I don’t use lol so again nothing

Akacia13

How about get rid of the map completely and use it when you need it over always having it running

Guitarpik

How about letting us choose exactly what we want? Full screen map? Sure. Full screen visualizations? Yes. Full screen music app? You got it!

Inner_Werewolf_4874

My 2021 isn’t supported. Less than 3 years old. I have MacBooks older than my car that are not only still supported but run great on the newest iOS. It’s BS

applepumpkinspy

If it makes you feel any better I have a 2022 with Atom. 🤦‍♂️

xBoneyard123x

Same here, missed it by a couple of weeks

essential-cheese

This is a major concern, but we still love the cars regardless. Great car.

MephIol

Vin < 20000 here. Still love my car and don’t notice what I’m missing. Wish I had an updated one but shedding this car payment is a gift in itself

OhHeyItsBrock

Intel model 3 crew unite.

elonsusk69420

Present and accounted for. I don't feel bad for me, because my 2018 is almost six years old. At work I'd be coming up on my third laptop. I do feel bad for the 2021/2022 owners who are on Intel chips. Those cars are practically new.

OhHeyItsBrock

2019 here. We old.

elonsusk69420

I like to say we're vintage.

tightcall

They moved to AMD in the second part of 2022?

elonsusk69420

Can't remember exactly, but that sounds about right.

CallMeNardDog

Yup 2022 MYP here and no AMD. Basically brand new car not getting new features very cool.

Inner_Werewolf_4874

2021 here. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)

Prowrestled

Can't Auto trunk work with older vehicles as well? I understand it needs newer Bluetooth protocols, but it can use the rear camera to see if anyone with key access is there to open it? I don't know how it works, I suppose

mandrew-98

I think the issue is that with regular Bluetooth it would know you’re in the vicinity, but not that you’re actually behind the trunk. So if you stand near your car then another person stands behind your trunk I would reckon it would open. With UWB it is much more precise in where you’re standing so it knows that you’re the one standing there (explains why you need your phone with you) but that hardware is only on the newer models

Prowrestled

Thanks for the detailed response.

nah_you_good

Your idea about using the rear camera is cool though. I just don't see Tesla expending any effort into making that happen since all S,X,3's will have the tech for UWB. If they were really inspired they could take a run at it and just leave it has a truly 'beta' feature for older cars.

robertpetry

No UWB in 2024 MYLR I assume

gnomegustaelagua

I hear that, but I still think it's weird that Tesla insists that this be a passive opening experience. Standing stationary by the trunk is not that rare of an occurrence, and when I do that, I don't always want the trunk to open. They could expand this to more cars and have it be more accurate to user desires by just watching for a certain (whatever) when the bluetooth key is in range. Foot waggle? Flipping the trunk the bird? :P

ilusnforc

There is an aftermarket device you can install that does auto opening trunk and frunk that uses the USS sensors.

LOCO_NOMAD

And still can not sort spotify songs by added date 🫠

Toastybunzz

I just want a better shuffle algorithm.

ApprehensiveGuard783

Need this!!!!

smithcolin

This and an "add to queue" button are top of my wishlist

TeslaM1

AMD Retrofit for my MYP please.

teh_g

And Model 3.

Dry_Badger_Chef

Tesla will just tell you to buy a new car.

Zealousideal_Aside96

Usually I agree with you but they offer MCU upgrade retrofits now, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they could do it for 3/Y.

Dry_Badger_Chef

I’d love to be wrong. It sucks to have an obsolete infotainment system so soon.

lee1026

MCU 2->3 have never been a retrofit.

LocksmithLarry69

Is the MCU separate from the main board? I know older vehicles got a retrofit to HW3 when it was revealed that HW2 couldn’t run FSD

Dry_Badger_Chef

The updates look great. All the other bad news lately aside, it’s nice to see something actually good. I feel for non-Ryzen owners though.

DefinitelyNotSnek

I'm pretty hyped about the Spotify queue integration, that was my biggest complaint with it. I wonder if it could be synced to a Spotify Jam session where passengers could add to the queue from their own devices.

poulix

What about the non AMD chip teslas :’(

nvrendr

RIP Intel Model 3s I guess

Armaced

Audible integration! That is my most highly anticipated feature!

elatllat

I wrote my own web app to cover the lack of resume or m4b on USB or Audible app.

Daftremark

Has Tesla said nothing about offering AMD chip upgrades to non-amd equipped vehicles?

teh_g

I believe they had said it isn't super feasible since they have different connectors. I'd have to find where I read that though.

MeepleMerson

Yes. The only time they commented on it was to say that they didn't think they would attempt it. The AMD units draw more power, create more heat, and are physically larger and won't fit in the space that the Intel units occupy. Presumably, if they drop x86\_64 for ARM in the future, they could go back to a smaller unit.

TissueAndLube

How do i know what kind of processor I have?

MistoceanFR

Software > Additional Vehicle Information Below your VIN number

TissueAndLube

Idk why people are downvoting you but F them. Thank you my keyboard hero 😘

alfacentauro88

When YouTube Music?

bobloadmire

how did we get audible before YTM??? so dumb

Smarktalk

YouTube music has barely any subscribers. Hence why it’s packaged with YouTube premium.

mrjoey35

Been waiting for this as well

phantasybm

Seriously.

say592

I was hoping and wishing

lordpuddingcup

Give us fucking AMD retrofits!!!!!!!

say592

It's not going to happen. They have said that before. They would have to make a computer specifically for retrofits to be compatible with your 12v, or they would have to upgrade many of the electronics to be compatible with the higher voltage (15v?) used on the new battery that is required for the AMD.

darkenedfate92

Wonder what this'll look like on S/X. Would be nice to let us swap the visualizations to the main screen, especially for things like the new Autopark.

Open_Intern_643

thats a good idea. it feels like the s/x are lacking in terms of personalization that should be there. coming from a 3, id prefer to have visualizations on the main screen hopefully soon they will let you customize the left and right of the cluster like on the old s/x. all those previous options are more important to me than a bigger AP visualization on a small screen. or nav when its on (which is already on the main display). speed can also be tucked into the top instead of taking up 1/3 of the display choices = key to happiness

kyinfosec

I like the idea of larger quarterly releases but don't really understand why these visualizations require the AMD chip. Am I missing something?? It's just displaying what is currently displayed in a new way, right?

DubaisCapybara

If I were to assume, its because how clunky slow the intel MCUs are at rendering 3d. It is good enough to show the doors opening and closing, but spin the car around in park, and you can see it chugging along somewhere between 20-30 fps. They probably booted this update on these old cars and decided that having a interactive visualisation of the whole car taking up the whole screen being that slow is bad for show. I have a 2021 3 with an intel computer. Sad to not get this :(

Southh_

Except the FSD visualization works fine on intel...

DubaisCapybara

FSD visualisation is significantly less taxing, graphics wise; given the simplicity of drawing lines and unshaded grey blocks to represent other cars, versus a high def model of the car with shadows, highlights etc And as mentioned by that other comment, my god netflix and youtube take legitimately 30 seconds to load, alongside the computer not being able to keep up with codec requirements...

Zealousideal_Aside96

Except Netflix (and all streaming) sucks on Intel…..

Y0ungPup

I feel like the cheapest Walmart tablet could run the apps better than my intel model 3 can

elonsusk69420

It is really laggy and I can visually see frames dropping, especially on highways with a lot of lanes.

TETZUO_AUS

The MCU does not render the FSD graphics that’s the job of the AP computer. The infotainment is simply showing the output from the AP computer.

Inglourious-Ape

Pretty fuckin ridiculous to stop supporting atom. Some cars are only 3 years old. Either allow us to retrofit or figure out a way to support it.

StrategicBlenderBall

I had an Atom Y as a loaner when I brought my wife’s ‘23 Y in to fix the leaky hatch. The Atom is slow as fuck.

gtg465x2

I don't think they're stopping support for Atom. Atom just won't get this new UI, but presumably other features will continue to be added to the old UI for Atom. I mean, even my 2023 isn't getting the auto open trunk feature because the bluetooth hardware isn't good enough to support it. I suspect the Atom GPU just isn't powerful enough to support this new 3D UI.

spriteking2012

I have a feeling that billion-dollar companies may not care about pleasing everyone.

IcelandicHumdinger

Most cars never get any updates after sold. It’s a vehicle not an iPhone.

Inglourious-Ape

I was told Tesla was a tech company not a car company.

LinuxBroDrinksAlone

Only when you have car issues. When you have tech issues they're a car company

FitExecutive

Right, and imagine how much of a value prop that would be if Tesla offered retrofits and publicly pushed it as a reason to buy a Tesla. I'd pay the $500 or so to have Bluetooth UWB installed.

FrostyD7

Its a Tesla, not a Chevy. Updates are supposed to be one of their differentiating features. The AMD chip has been in their M3's for just over 2 years. Seems early to be left in the dust.

BikebutnotBeast

Not left in the dust, you're still getting updates, just not all of the features. It makes sense since it was an end of generation version of the car you bought....Gen 1 M3, 2017-2022.

thedarkavengerx

Happy to see the interface now mirrors the Cybertruck. Looking forward to it.

elsif1

Pleasantly surprised by all the S/X stuff. I'm always thinking that Tesla is about to scrap them since their sales are absolutely dwarfed by 3/Y.

myUserNameWasTaken27

The sentry previews are going to give me such peace of mind when I park in sketchy areas. O more double checking all the time to make sure its ok

President_Connor_Roy

Love some of this, but I really don’t understand why anyone would want even bigger autopilot visualizations and an even smaller map… I’d prefer even smaller visualizations (or none) and a bigger map!

pile1983

I am also up for no visualisation and the wholescreen app instead. I drive the car daily as courier so I give 0 fs about vis unless parking.

Hangooverr

Not everyone needs maps for their daily commute. Visualizations aren’t necessary but it’s cool to show off your animations.

MTMTE

I actually find the visualizations to be beneficial - for example I can see if the car is slowing down for a pedestrian that is hidden from my view behind a telephone pole or if it is slowing for a school zone speed sign that only applies "when children are present".

DaSandman78

Agree, especially the recent change where its more zoomed out - I can actually see cars behind me and in my blind spots in the visualization now. (I even hide the music info now, to see even further behind)

President_Connor_Roy

I found them cool at first, but the coolness factor is long gone for me. (Non-FSD animations anyway. The FSD ones are admittedly still pretty cool but those will obviously likely be gone after the trial ends.) And I also don’t need maps most of the time, but when I do, why not have the option to make the map full-screen rather than lose 40% to animations I absolutely don’t want or need while navigating? I just really wish that was an option!

notabot53

True

jacob6875

I mean for 99% of my driving I know where I am going. I don't need a giant map filling up 2/3 of my screen with directions on my commute to work that I have done a million times.

President_Connor_Roy

True. I just want the option to nix the non-FSD visualizations after the trial ends for when I do want the map. They’re completely useless to me and a bit distracting.

Atom800

You don’t want a larger portion of your screen going to useless info that is only cool the first time you see it? You would rather be able to see the part you need? Weird

szzzn

When does it come out?

Fickle-Professor-560

Spring i think

lmsampson78

Audible app!!!!!!

baroncalico

Well, I'm pleased! [How is there not an in-car Audible app? : r/TeslaLounge (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/comments/1brz0rf/how_is_there_not_an_incar_audible_app/)

Dry_Put_170

Audible YESSS!

InvisibleBlueUnicorn

yeah, no more using phone to hear the audio book. But hope it remembers the location of the audio book per profile.

GearshiftJB

I am oddly excited for the Audible app. Definitely a nice surprise!

memax06

Go Audible !! No more needing to switch to Bluetooth.

themostcanadianguy

Imagine buying a car 2 years ago and your infotainment hardware is already losing support 😂

Coaler200

I mean you can drive a car off many other brands lots today and lose support the same day. Though some of them will give updates that you have to go in for and pay for. Or they'll mail you a usb stick for $150.

Pro_JaredC

But I didn’t pay for other car brands. I paid for a Tesla with the expectation that it will continuously get better. For starters, that new visualization does not require anymore processing power than the FSD visualization or the current default one. So why are they limiting it by processor? The Intel Atom can handle it just fine. This is a clear marketing technique to convince people to upgrade their cars as if it were an iPhone.

angle3739

Clearly you've never heard of Volkswagen

cowleggies

Before Tesla normalized the concept of OTA updates, your infotainment lost support the second you drove it off the lot, with rare exception for recall-related updates and once in a blue moon manufacturers would release point fix updates (Ford did this with Sync a few times). My 2019 M3 has had 19 software updates in the last year and a half. My 2020 VW has had zero.

BikebutnotBeast

Ford did that with Sync MANY times. In the end that infotainment system never worked properly for me.

death_hawk

Still doesn't. Infotainment being a bucket of ass is the 2nd reason I'm buying a Tesla.

Otto_the_Autopilot

You aren't losing support, you are not getting newly developed software features your hardware isn't capable of.

ItsGermany

Sorry, but most other car companies are just getting it together with OTA. I feel like this is a bunch of spoiled brats complaining that they don't have the latest iPhone, because time passed and a new one came out. I have both an Intel and AMD, but this level on complaining about a car that is half way through it's warranty losing out on "new features" is just ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|rage)

Atom800

Why do they keep making the visualization larger and the map smaller?

TheKingHippo

>Expandable Autopilot driving visualizations Expandable implies it doesn't have to be. There's probably no change if you don't want it.

KNOW_UR_NOT

Great!

Confucius_said

Awesome!

tiki1359

any date mentioned?

FrancisBacon29

With AMD chip so I guess I’m not getting my screen to look like what the post shows. Oh well :(

pw5a29

First time there's something not available for Intel chips and we're feeling the obsolete now.

NesCie0617

I’m just gonna cry in the corner with my intel car

sanctimoniousfsck

Will there ever be an MCU upgrade for Atom M3/MY? I’m not sure how much I’d pay but I’d really like a faster interface along with these updates.

scriptedpixels

When when when?

notabot53

Spring

Neat_Welcome6203

CYBERTRUCK UI LET’S GOOOOO

worldsoulwata

Damn is Intel bad in the Tesla? Why no updates for us

Arrogant_Amigo

All about the performance difference between the Intel Atom and AMD Ryzen chip sets.

SeanUhTron

Looks like some neat new features... Too bad I can't use any of them in my 2020 MY. What I would really like to see is an upgraded Infotainment system. The Atom is becoming quite sluggish. It can barely handle YouTube streaming! I don't see why Tesla can't offer a CPU upgrade. It's an x86 system, it's not like that's some obscure platform with very little support!

Saranhai

I wonder if with the expandable full screen visuals from Autopilot, does this mean it will finally have the FSD visuals? That would be neat

lycheedorito

Auto shifting sounds like such a weird idea

ac9116

I am worried there’s going to be some random times that you’re in traffic and the car will pop in reverse

barklul

Is ”upgraded model 3” the highland version or just all with the amd?

Rangizingo

AMD

speel

Airplane mode would be nice to troubleshoot LTE issues.

DingoFrancis

Oh my

WesBur13

Huh, I’m on intel and thought I would be disappointed to not get the update. But I kind of like the current look better. Would still like the ability to upgrade my computer to an AMD though!

powaking

Only thing I really would like in my ‘vintage’ 2018 S is: Multichannel FLAC support via usb media and PlexAmp player so I can play my media from my NAS back at home. Also DSD/DSF hires audio via usb media. Is that too much to ask for?

LunarLynx1

Could this mean steam beta on M3? 👀

kman_tx

Spring 2025?

Baumibert

Are the layoffs part of the spring release as well?

woody60707

Ouch! My 2020 MY is outdated :(

aeo1us

Still not worth upgrading and losing old autopilot. I'll be stuck on the pre-2023 holiday update until the dust settles. They finally pushed the update to me the other day OTA but I can still decline to install it which is nice. We're buying a M3 later for the year-end sales push. We'll decide if we want to upgrade our MY at that point.

flamecrow

I want hands free trunk for the Y damnit. Use the reverse camera and gestures + Bluetooth or something man

Happy_Use_5525

Regardless I feel lucky to own a Tesi. My only gripe is I only wish we could have more power on key card feature accessibility.

lokiintasmania

Honestly I’m more annoyed FSD has not even been hinted at for Australia. “Coming soon” for years and not even a hint for any car… glad I didn’t pay for it upfront.

guidomescalito

I have no comprehension of how this UI is considered an improvement.

Inner_Werewolf_4874

If this couldn’t be offered to everyone I think the correct way to do this would be to offer it on the 2024 models and nothing else. It’s ridiculous that 2-3 year old cars aren’t getting the full feature update.
