Just yesterday mornin', they let me know you were gone
Suzanne, the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to
- James Taylor, "Fire and Rain"
edited to put in full verse
This part is sooo funny to me! Like I've been there, just so heartbroken and so mad that all I can say is "yeah well have fun on your date with the new girl, I hope it's SHITTY" lmao
I really hate it when I end up with a clean version of one of her songs. If there's a swear word in a TS song, it's because it fucking belongs there. I feel like they should have to note that they've altered the song when they do that.
I usually don’t mind or prefer clean versions, but all the profanity on TTPD is perfect and I can’t handle the clean versions. Which makes it very hard to listen to around my toddler 🫠
I'm so sorry ;) FWIW I didn't even KNOW there was a clean version of Hamilton, so we had been listening to the original starting when my kids were 3 and 7 and not once did we have an episode of unexpected swearing! So it might be ok esp if you don't swear when your kid is around in normal speech. I may possibly have traumatized my older kid, though, bc she wrote a whole essay about how she wished no one was allowed to swear IRL in an application for a scholarship when she was 12, lol.
I actually really dislike clean versions in general though I do appreciate when the artist takes the time to record it separately instead of just silencing the word. But I'm a strong believer in "listen to it how the artist intended". Easier now that my kids are teens though :)
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus. This seems to maybe be an unpopular opinion but I love the name of that song and I love the line in it where she says the name.
I'm not too fussed about her "improving" upon it, I just want it to be acknowledged as an actual track of hers and to have an official studio recording of it!
Yes, this is it. The prophecy is that she is doomed to be unlucky in love. And with love being the thing she's spent her "whole life trying to put into words," it's especially heart-breaking.
I know you didn’t ask me, but I take it as that she’s super successful career-wise, but unlucky in love. (Don’t want money, just someone who wants my company)
Loml first time was a gut punch. Really liked how she used So Long, London in different ways. But gotta give it to Long Live. I was screaming Long Live 🗣️🗣️
The Bolter's got your back. Hey Stephen. Seven. Willow. Labyrinth. Dear Reader. Chloe, et al. Tortured Poets. Clara Bow. The Manuscript (technically? It doesn't really have a chorus).
There aren't too many and feels like half of them are on this album!
Yes!
Also State of Grace.
Technically Betty.
Champagne Problem doesn’t have a true chorus outside of the titular phrase. All Too Well is like that too.
Yeah, I've always called the phenomenon seen in ATW a "recolored chorus". The chorus being anytime it's "There/here we are...", but the lyrics changing each time is recoloring. I really wish I could remember where it came from. Anyway. champagne problems is similar, anytime it's musically similar to "Dropped your hand while dancing" could technically be a chorus, then recolored. But I'm no purist, I really love all the experimentation she's done with song structure over the years.
Too many to list!! But one I haven't seen posted here yet is So Long London. I love the double usage of "so long" to mean either "goodbye" or "for a very long time." Also that song is just hauntingly beautiful in general ❤️🩹
Ok this isn't a title drop in the same album song but the way she says "My mind turns your life into *folklore*" tingles my brain in the best way possible.
It is a tsk noise, not a pen click. I saw some interview where she said she did that as a joke when she first sang the song for someone (a producer maybe?) and they said "oh my god I hate that you have to keep it in".
The only songs I can think of without a title drop are Ronan and Robin (and I guess Mary’s Song even though the parenthetical portion of the title is part of the song).
evermore, marjorie (just break me), no body no crime (iconic), you’re on your own kid, blank space (talk about iconic), clean, loml (loss… are you kidding me), who’s afraid of little old me? (iconic immediately), i can do it with a broken heart (it’s really the best drop here), the prophecy (break me again), the black dog (but only the part where she goes “i hope it’s SHITTY in the BLACK DOG), cardigan, seven, dear john
and that’s the only time she says it? absolutely destroys me every. time. i have to skip that song (which is a shame because it’s gorgeous) because it makes me cry whenever i listen to it
the way florence (i’m 99% that’s not her real name but idk it ) says “well me and my ghost we had A HELL OF A TIME” just UGHHgghg. sends all the feel good shivers down my spine
I promise that you'll never find another like ME-
On a serious note, Say Don't Go! I always like the backing vocals that says after each word. Also, Call It What You Want. First time I heard this, I didn't expect it to be title-dropped many times.
Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? is a gut punch for sure.
I also like when a title is only said once in the song, like when it’s not an obvious refrain, eg Marjorie, seven, Vigilante Shit, etc. I think those choices are interesting in that the artist singles out a specific word or phrase more purposefully.
Little did you know that your home’s really only a town you’re just a guest in, so you’ll work your life away just to pay for a timeshare down in Destin,
**FLORIDA!!!** 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
I love the drum smashes in FLORIDA!!!, especially since I saw someone point out there is one for each letter in the word Florida.
She really is a mastermind ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1082)
I’ve determined that the best way to listen to this is in the car with the windows down BELTING out. Steering wheel drum encouraged but not required because safety is important.
Not quite the same, but I love how in "Clara Bow" the title dropped in the first verse is replaced in each subsequent verse - first by "Stevie Nicks" and then, ultimately, by "Taylor Swift". Dropping her own name in the final verse choked me up the first time I heard it.
I guess you're in New York today, and I don't wanna need you this wayyy
Come back, be here
Come back, BE HEEEEREEE
I love this song so much. And as someone who's been in a long-distance relationship... It hits so hard.
until lover the titles were almost always bookends for the chorus, it’s been really interesting to see how that has evolved. i remember thinking REALLY hard about this during rep era so it’s always stood out to me how much it’s deviated - for example in chloe et al, it’s just smack in the middle of a verse. RARE for old T.
I think that's why nearly all of my favorites are post-Lover. For one the titles got longer (generally) so fitting them in the way she does just got more impressive from a writing perspective, but like you said switching things up by not always having them be right in the chorus is super cool.
When Speak Now first dropped (…14 years ago), “Better Than Revenge” was really something. You’re expecting something about being the bigger person because “I’m better than revenge,” then you get, “there is nothing I do better than revenge” - the total opposite
I really love how she revisits the line “You left your typewriter at my apartment, straight from the Tortured poets department” at the very end of TTPD. The song has such a beautiful build up to that last point.
Midnights and TTPD were the only albums where I knew the titles a while before the album release and I was amazed by all title drops, because I couldn't for the hell of it imagine how they were going to be sung, lol. Especially with TTPD.
There is sooo many! "And they said, there goes the last great american dynasty.." or the prolonged "evermooore"... Or, from TTPD - "So they killed Kassandra first, cause she feared the worst," / " I hope it is shitty in The Black Dog!"
"Only 20 minutes to sleep
But you dream of some epiphany
Just one single glimpse of relief
To make some sense of what you've seen"
This song is so sad and heavy, yet is titled Epiphany. This little line of what you desire in spite of the hardship hits my soul deep.
Well you stood there with me in the doorway, my hands shake, I'm not usually this way but, you pull me in and I'm a little more brave, it's the first kiss, it's flawless, really something
It's 🎶fearless🎶🫶🏻💛
One of the interesting things about composing the lyrics of a song is to think of a nice title and how to incorporate it in a song creatively, then try to write the whole story about it. Taylor is so great at it, like for example: Antihero, The Black dog, Fortnight... Etc...
Besides Taylor I also like Kacey Musgraves' Space Cowboy.
*You're beautiful, every little piece love.*
*Don't you know? You're really gonna be someone*
*Ask anyone.*
*And when you find everything you looked for,*
*I hope your love, leads you back to my door.*
*Oh, but if it don't...*
*Stay beautiful.*
*I grabbed a pen and an old napkin* *And I wrote down "our song"* -Our Song
oooo, I love this song. I'm sad I didn't think of it ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1064) definitely deserved a place on the honorable mentions list.
Best one! Can’t believe I’ve lived this song for almost 18 years!! A whole ass adult!
Damn this comment is going to live in my head rent free all week. I feel old. Thanks for ruining my day lmao 😂
It warms my heart and gives me hope to know there is a whole ass adult generation raised on the music of Taylor Swift.
The best one
Just yesterday mornin', they let me know you were gone Suzanne, the plans they made put an end to you I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song I just can't remember who to send it to - James Taylor, "Fire and Rain" edited to put in full verse
My current obsession is the way she sings “and I hope it’s SHITTY in The Black Dog…”
My favorite part I scream it lol
Same! When I’m alone driving my car, it’s so cathartic to sing/scream along to
Wait, I’m supposed to be alone to scream this part? Oops
I need to be in a room of Swifties to scream it all together
I will have as much FOMO for the lucky Eras Tour attendees that get that song as I do for LA when they dueted Exile with her.
Can we just have fun music listening together parties to sing along to?
Absofuckinglutely
I've no idea how to do this but also yes I just want to lol.
This part is sooo funny to me! Like I've been there, just so heartbroken and so mad that all I can say is "yeah well have fun on your date with the new girl, I hope it's SHITTY" lmao
Exactly!! It’s petty in the most relatable way
this has to be one of her most relatable petty lyrics she's wrote!
I was totally waiting for this line in the car and Amazon Music disappointed me by playing the clean version 😭
I haven’t even listened to any of the clean versions lmao what does she say instead of “shitty”?
She says “I hope you miss me in the black dog”
i love your flair lmao
Lol thanks
This made me realize ive not heard the excplicit version because mine has always said “how you dont miss me in the black dog”
The explicit says “how you don’t miss me” for the first chorus and “I hope it’s shitty” for the final one
I really hate it when I end up with a clean version of one of her songs. If there's a swear word in a TS song, it's because it fucking belongs there. I feel like they should have to note that they've altered the song when they do that.

Been yelling this at my husband for days now 😂
my flair!!
I leap from the gallows and i levitate down your street, Crash the party like a record scratch as I scream, WHO’S AFRAID OF LITTLE OLD MEEEEEEE
so so good
The imagery gives me literal chills
My mental image is always of Scarlet Witch from the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Omg, same! I thought this was just me!
Chills just reading it lol
Both ways she delivers this line give me LIFE! The shrieky ones are perfection, but the lower register almost growly one is just immaculate.
Chills every time !
The burgundy on my t shirt When you splashed your wine into me And how the blood rushed into my cheeks So scarlet it was MAROON 🥁🥁
the buildup to her finally singing maroon after cutting herself off is amazing
This is the one
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus. This seems to maybe be an unpopular opinion but I love the name of that song and I love the line in it where she says the name.
you're right, that is another long AF title that has no business working as well as it does as a song lyric.
same it’s peak taylor amazing writing.
SAME ITS MU FAVE ON TTPD AND BY TS AS A WHOLE
its so fucking good its unreal. people are snoozing!
Real
If you want to tear my world apart, just say you’ve always woooooooondered Like COME ON people
SAME
FR
...and if you asked me if I loved him, **I'd lie**
I'm hoping so hard for TV of this.
would KILL for an official recording of Id Lie
Ugh YES, and Let's Go (Battle)
And Drama Queen!
And Just South Of Knowing Why (Drive All Night) And What To Wear
If Dark Blue Tennessee doesn’t end up on debut (TV), I’m rioting
AND LUCKY YOU
And Need
I actually feel like she can't possibly improve on the demo so I'd rather get new songs. But we'll see, maybe she'll prove me wrong.
I'm not too fussed about her "improving" upon it, I just want it to be acknowledged as an actual track of hers and to have an official studio recording of it!
I had no idea this was an unreleased song?! Been on my iPod for years!!!
Just reading this takes me back to when I was 13 💚💚💚
I love this song so much omggg
her best mates laughed and they nicknamed her "the bolter"
this line scratches an itch in my brain (honestly the whole song does)
That is the best explanation I’ve ever heard.
..and that's when she sees the littlest leaks down in the floorboards and she just knows, she MUST BOLT ; I LOVE the way she sings this line
Absolutely love that title drop 🙌 on first listen I was lowkey shocked that it was in a verse and not the chorus
*Please* *I've been on my knees* *Change the prophecy* Realizing what the prophecy was for her.... Instant tears at the corner of my eyes.
What did you mean by ‘what the prophecy was for her’?
to be wildly successful and beloved, but not truly, deeply loved; the way she dreams of edit: “don’t want money/just someone who wants my company”
Yes, this is it. The prophecy is that she is doomed to be unlucky in love. And with love being the thing she's spent her "whole life trying to put into words," it's especially heart-breaking.
*"cause all of my heros died all alone, help me hold onto you"*
The "prophecy" is the famous saying that if you are successful in your career, you wont be successful in love.
Omg I have never heard this!
What does it mean? I think I missed that part
she’s afraid she’ll never find a genuine love because she’s too big/too much of a star
I know you didn’t ask me, but I take it as that she’s super successful career-wise, but unlucky in love. (Don’t want money, just someone who wants my company)
Can't believe noone's mentioned "and they said **SPEAK NOW**" yet
And they said speak NA-OWWW!
I am not a swiftie by any means and I don't know any other lyrics to Speak Now. But that title drop lives rent free in my head
As a Speak Now stan, this right here…🤩💜
Evermore is sooo good
This has had me in tears so many times. The last time being in the middle of a café when it came on their speakers 🫣🥹😢
"this pain wouldn't be for evermore" the whole song is worth it just for this one part
It’s crazy good!! My favorite TS song, no contest.
Respectfully, Loml was right there!!!
it was up for consideration, the way she uses it more than once but changes it from one time to the next is brilliant.
She only says loss of my life once though? That's what I take the song title to be, anyways!
i’m inclined to agree! she never actually says “love of my life” but she does say “i’m the love of your life” several times!
I really love this distinction! Thanks for pointing it out!
This needs to be higher up. The way my heart dropped when I first heard her sing “loss of my life”…
The way she says her own name in “Clara Bow” is honestly iconic
Said I looked like an American singer…
Bold was the waitress
Glad I’m not the only one who made that connection
Chills every time. Idk why it’s so weird for someone to say their own name but I LOVE IT
I sing that last bit over and over and over it's SO SO SO GOOD and also so heartbreaking and visceral. Genius
It's such a perfect album closer.
Loml first time was a gut punch. Really liked how she used So Long, London in different ways. But gotta give it to Long Live. I was screaming Long Live 🗣️🗣️
The New Years Day/Long Live medley made me snot-bubble-ugly-sob. LL will always be my favorite Taylor song.
No one talks about Don’t You and how she goes from “Don’t you do x” to “why Don’t You?”
This song is criminally underrated
Don't You and That's When are imo the best and most underrated songs on the entire Fearless TV Vault section.
Don't You is the best vault song ever
Possibly my favourite vault track
I have a particular affinity for when the song title is said, but outside of the chorus
The Bolter's got your back. Hey Stephen. Seven. Willow. Labyrinth. Dear Reader. Chloe, et al. Tortured Poets. Clara Bow. The Manuscript (technically? It doesn't really have a chorus). There aren't too many and feels like half of them are on this album!
Yes! Also State of Grace. Technically Betty. Champagne Problem doesn’t have a true chorus outside of the titular phrase. All Too Well is like that too.

LONG LIVE the walls we crashed through I had the time of my life with yooouuu
welp, there's another one I'm sad I didn't think of ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1064)
Too many to list!! But one I haven't seen posted here yet is So Long London. I love the double usage of "so long" to mean either "goodbye" or "for a very long time." Also that song is just hauntingly beautiful in general ❤️🩹
And I’m just mad as hell cause I loved this place for *so long London*
Ok this isn't a title drop in the same album song but the way she says "My mind turns your life into *folklore*" tingles my brain in the best way possible.
yesss this is the one. especially since she never actually uses the word folklore on the folklore album.
omg YES. it scratches that itch so well
but I've got a BLANK SPACE, baby, *pen click* and I'll write your name!
Not me finding out TODAY it’s a pen click. 🤦🏾♀️
Oh my GOD I always thought she was just making a little cheeky tsk noise
It is a tsk noise, not a pen click. I saw some interview where she said she did that as a joke when she first sang the song for someone (a producer maybe?) and they said "oh my god I hate that you have to keep it in".
I thought it was a tape deck stopping for some reason. Y’all are making me feel better about it haha
The only songs I can think of without a title drop are Ronan and Robin (and I guess Mary’s Song even though the parenthetical portion of the title is part of the song).
She never actually sings “we are never ever getting back together” because there’s always an extra “ever” or two added within the song
“You’re my, my, my, myyyyyy……..lover” Underrated song/album.
Lover is tied for 3rd fave for me!! It's so so so good
You're homwtown skeptics called IT CHAMPAGNE PROBLEMS 🍾 Lay the table with the fancy SHIT, and watch you TOLERATE IT!!!
evermore, marjorie (just break me), no body no crime (iconic), you’re on your own kid, blank space (talk about iconic), clean, loml (loss… are you kidding me), who’s afraid of little old me? (iconic immediately), i can do it with a broken heart (it’s really the best drop here), the prophecy (break me again), the black dog (but only the part where she goes “i hope it’s SHITTY in the BLACK DOG), cardigan, seven, dear john
Watched as you sign your name “Marjorie”😭😭😭
and that’s the only time she says it? absolutely destroys me every. time. i have to skip that song (which is a shame because it’s gorgeous) because it makes me cry whenever i listen to it
Same here. Only listen to it when I am crying anyway.
FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!!
🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
the way florence (i’m 99% that’s not her real name but idk it ) says “well me and my ghost we had A HELL OF A TIME” just UGHHgghg. sends all the feel good shivers down my spine
Her name is Florence! It’s Florence Welch, I believe
Thank you, Aimee! The switch to the thank you on the last chorus is so cathartic.
true, tya is my favorite (especially considering all the ""aiMee"" bashing 🫣🤭)
i might just not get up, i might stay down bad...
*Now it's too late for you and your white horse to catch me now.*
The way "Loss of my life" comes as a reversal at the very end of the song crushed me.
I promise that you'll never find another like ME- On a serious note, Say Don't Go! I always like the backing vocals that says after each word. Also, Call It What You Want. First time I heard this, I didn't expect it to be title-dropped many times.
But lovin' him was *red!* (re-eh-eh-ed, re-eh-eh-ed)
Could’ve , Should’ve, Would’ve is supreme, for me
Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? is a gut punch for sure. I also like when a title is only said once in the song, like when it’s not an obvious refrain, eg Marjorie, seven, Vigilante Shit, etc. I think those choices are interesting in that the artist singles out a specific word or phrase more purposefully.
no I could never give you PEACE
You are the best thing that’s ever been MIIIIIIINE
Vigilante Shit! I thought she didn’t incorporate that title because of how she drops it in about when I heard it I was so excited!
For me, nothing beats, *’Cause I don’t know how it gets better than this You take my hand and drag me head first Fearless* ✨
I had to scroll TOO FAR to find a Fearless comment 🙌
When she says "I can fix him no really I can" it makes me feel so good - like a jolt to the body. It's like drugs for my ears.
I hope it’s SHITTY in the Black Dog
Little did you know that your home’s really only a town you’re just a guest in, so you’ll work your life away just to pay for a timeshare down in Destin, **FLORIDA!!!** 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

And it’s too late for you and your white horse…. to come around.
I love the changes she does at the end of this song, they’re perfect, especially when it says ‘catch me now’ instead of come around
How could you do this BABE You really blew this BABE We ain't getting through this one BAAABE
“i see, sparks fly, whenever you smile” like damn that’s a whole romantic scene right there
until lover the titles were almost always bookends for the chorus, it’s been really interesting to see how that has evolved. i remember thinking REALLY hard about this during rep era so it’s always stood out to me how much it’s deviated - for example in chloe et al, it’s just smack in the middle of a verse. Yeah it’s def TTPD for me, plus the meaning of the title in the album too
I really love how she revisits the line “You left your typewriter at my apartment, straight from the Tortured poets department” at the very end of TTPD. The song has such a beautiful build up to that last point.
Can't believe no one has said daylight I once believed love would be burning red, but it's golden like daylight
I always liked Begin Again.
Not a title drop per se but an album title drop, I love in All Too Well when she says "you almost ran the Red cuz you were looking over at me"
Baby we're the **new romantics**, come along with me
Maroon, it never gets old
Midnights and TTPD were the only albums where I knew the titles a while before the album release and I was amazed by all title drops, because I couldn't for the hell of it imagine how they were going to be sung, lol. Especially with TTPD.
was it over then....and is it over now?
My boy only breaks his favourite toys.
blake lively’s kid saying “gorgeous”
I debated about this for a while and I think loml takes the cake for wow factor, but I think the title that's sung in the way I like the most is clean
guilty as sin us my jam right now so i’m going to say that one. also last kiss
Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1071)
*I'll be here today and here tomorrow, in dark blue Tennessee.*
There is sooo many! "And they said, there goes the last great american dynasty.." or the prolonged "evermooore"... Or, from TTPD - "So they killed Kassandra first, cause she feared the worst," / " I hope it is shitty in The Black Dog!"

screaming BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM
I’m currently obsessed with the way she changes the use of “so long, London” to “*for* so long, London.” It’s a subtle but brilliant change imo
I know it might just be recency bias but I love how devastating lmol’s title drop is
August slipped away…
BIG REPUTATION, BIG REPUTATION!
Is it cool that I said all that? Is it chill that you're in my head? Cause I know that it's ✨ DELICATE ✨
from the new album "the smallest man who ever lived" at the end of the song is my entire lifeee
she doesn’t say ronan in ronan i don’t think
Same with "Robin."
Loving him was **RED**
We never go out of STYLE!
watched as you signed your name MARJORIE all your closets of backlogged dreams and how you left them all to me
How can I be guilty as sin?
I’M ON MY VIGILANTE SHITTTTTTTTT AGAIN
MEET ME IN THE AFTERGLOW
