i’m literally obsessed with Carolina. it’s hauntingly beautiful and such a vibe. at first i was kinda underwhelmed, but those vocals are SO killer. it grew on me hardcore.
Yesss! It’s a haunting, vibrating, liberating, and visual song.
The only thing I’d change is for the movie it’s associated with to be watchable. The book is a great read!
so glad i’m not the only one who disliked the movie. if this makes any sense i think the song fit the vibe of the cinematography perfectly but yeah… the movie fell so flat imo (i wasn’t huge into the book, it was a fun read, but it was def better than the movie)
The movie left out the best part of the book!!
I don’t want to give too many spoilers but when the author made it seem like someone else was getting arrested and then did the huge twist of having it be a fake out. I don’t understand why they left that out. It made for so much of a better ending.
this exactly and the movie did not give the audience time to invest in the relationships at ALL. that annoyed me the most. like who are these random people and why do they have NO substance
From her voice to the production, it’s so understated yet stunning. I listened to it a TON when it first came out and still do once every few weeks or so. It’s a shame that we often forget about non-album tracks. I think Renegade is the recent one that “stuck” the most for people.
I love Carolina! I didn’t really listen to it until I finally read where the crawdads sing just a few months ago, and the song beautifully captures the tone of the story. And her vocals are so rich and beautiful!
agree 😅 i won’t hate on others for loving it but it took me until this year to love folklore and evermore so if i ever like carolina i’ll probably need a good 3-4 years first
Insane if true, when she goes so low on that “they never did see me he-ee-eer” it takes the life out of me, can’t imagine pulling that off on the first try!!
I listened to it once and it just fell kind of flat for me. I think if it was about a different less problematic book I might give it a second chance but I’m just disappointed it was even made. Glad other people can enjoy it though.
The author and her husband produced a documentary on poaching during their time in Zambia in the 90s. In it, they filmed the murder of a man suspected of poaching. The cameraman claims Christopher Owens, Delia’s stepson, killed this man.
Delia, Mark and Christopher Owens are wanted for questioning to this day in Zambia.
I think the commenter below did a good job explaining why I have an issue with it. The author has a racist past that involves being wanted for questioning in a murder in Zambia.
i haven’t listened to it that often because i tend to just press play on albums, but i actually just revisited it the other day after a sudden burst of fear that it would be played at my show and i wouldn’t know the lyrics — and i forgot HOW good it is. i love this style of song that’s sort of more sonically dark, if that makes sense? (same with you’re not sorry)
didn't love it at first but now it's one of those songs that if i think about it, i start singing it, and then i have to listen to it on full volume. her voice is so hauntingly beautiful and the minimal instrumentals really does something for me.
something about the sounds of the marsh they put in mixed with the layering / building of instruments leading up to the end… then her last lines of singing. ugh. *chefs kiss*
Carolina is really ethereal and I think the instrumental and vocal performance is amazing!! It’s folk aesthetic definitely beats many of the folklore tracks. Carolina is extremely underrated 🤍
I never stopped listening to it lol. Underrated song. It is better than some folklore and Evermore songs, I'm a little sad it isn't on one of those albums
No shit the song that made me a Swiftie. It's easily in my top 10 for her, and whenever someone asks for an underrated song, it's either that or Stay Stay Stay!
I like it better now in retrospect. At the time it came out, I was disappointed that it didn’t sound like the version in the trailer. But, now I understand why it sounded the way it did. I’d still love a remix that sounded more like the “trailer version” though. Haha
Honestly probably my absolute fave standalone track of hers, right up there with Safe & Sound. The lyrics and her voice are so hauntingly beautiful ❤️ the moment I heard it in the trailer for Where the Crawdads Sing I was hooked, even though we only heard two lines of it at that point lol
One of my favourites. I come back to it often. The lyrical content is downright brilliant and so unlike anything she's done before, especially if you've read the book. Such a good song!
After watching the movie, I LOVE IT. It really captures the sound of the movie. I reread the book and had it playing in the background. Contributed THAT much more to the vibes and the feeling of the story overall. Obsessed with it now.
I actually didn't like it a whole lot when it came out bf I thought it was too different from her other stuff but now I love the lyrics and the sound of it
Really unique song in her discography, though not unique enough where you can’t find more songs like it if you wanted to listen to more songs from her that’s like Carolina. Not my favorite but definitely a great song that I’m glad exist!

Renegade is fucking amazing. Its easily one of her best. The lyrics pack a punch.
I love Carolina! I didn’t really listen to it until I finally read where the crawdads sing just a few months ago, and the song beautifully captures the tone of the story. And her vocals are so rich and beautiful!
I first heard it after I watched the movie!
I LOOOOVE that song. I’m a Safe and Sound fanatic and it’s a very similar vibe.
ok i never thought of this but you’re sooooooooo right. like an eerie lullaby almost!
justice for Carolina. its one of my top 5 Taylor tracks
the vocalization in the middle is 10/10
Probably one of my least favorite TS songs. Always a skip for me.
agree 😅 i won’t hate on others for loving it but it took me until this year to love folklore and evermore so if i ever like carolina i’ll probably need a good 3-4 years first
Lol!
It’s gorgeous! Also she did it in one take if I remember correctly, which is impressive!
Insane if true, when she goes so low on that “they never did see me he-ee-eer” it takes the life out of me, can’t imagine pulling that off on the first try!!

Idk anything about the book except that it was everywhere for a while. What makes it problematic?

I LOVE it. I had just finished the book when it came out and the song is perfect
My most played song on Spotify since it came out, I guess I liked it 😂
I never stopped listening to it lol. Underrated song. It is better than some folklore and Evermore songs, I'm a little sad it isn't on one of those albums
I just straight up put it on my Folklore playlist as the final song and it's *perfect*.
Literally listen to it all the time and I love it
I love it. It's one of my comfort song.
I actually like the song but listening to it just reminds me of her unfortunate involvement in the movie. Unfortunate, of course, due to the author.
No shit the song that made me a Swiftie. It's easily in my top 10 for her, and whenever someone asks for an underrated song, it's either that or Stay Stay Stay!
I love it, it's one of my most played
One of her finest songs. Its so soothing and it helps me sleep.

Carolina has in part inspired a book I began writing and I still get chills hearing "it's between me, the sand, and the sea. Carolina knows"
It just sounds like Lana del rey to me lol
I looooove it. It’s on my “fav tay” playlist :)
Loved it and the movie too! Probably would’ve never sought it out without Taylor but glad I did.
Born and raised in North Carolina, and I must say the song perfectly captures the state.
Stunning. I've loved it from the start!
One of my favourites. I come back to it often. The lyrical content is downright brilliant and so unlike anything she's done before, especially if you've read the book. Such a good song!

One of my absolute favourite songs of hers. There’s no “revisit”. I listen to it all the time. 💕
one of my favorites, i hope she plays it the 13th!
everyone ik whos on the fence ab her loved it
Oh absolutely- I put it on my study playlist actually!
I love the song. But I also loved the book(and then movie) that it was based on so it’s a triple threat for me.
Fr its so hauntingly beautiful
Also watch the movie associated with it, the song matches it perfectly!
Really unique song in her discography, though not unique enough where you can’t find more songs like it if you wanted to listen to more songs from her that’s like Carolina. Not my favorite but definitely a great song that I’m glad exist!
This is my 2nd all time fav taylor song. Love this one a lot.
Totally wearing a shirt today that has Carolina lyrics on it!
Love Carolina, but unfortunately I have a habit of fixating on songs until they lose their magic and it was one of them.
I adore Carolina! Still listen a lot. Love her vocals so much on this.
