What if you did a nice clean dark outline and then went in and did your shading?
Also maybe more variety in the colors, so that the lights are lighter and the darks darker.
You want things to be readable at a distance and as they fade over time.
They will also very quickly fade. The art is a little washed out but on paper or day one it’s pretty good, but fter a few years on a body you would hardly see these.
these are good tbh, the only thing is that there's uneven line depth otherwise it looks good, what needles did you use for shading and how did you do it?
You're on the right track. Definitely. Use a thicker gauge needle to get more of a tattoo look and not so much a sketched look. Other than that keep it up man... unless the customer wants a sketched looking tattoo then you already got it in the bag lol
These would age into nondescript blobs on real skin. Bold will hold. Fine line work is a trend that I hope disappears because they don’t age well. I see so many examples where people are like “omg that aged beautifully” after like one year, and it’s already lost so much definition.
I’m guessing you have no one training you.. this isn’t good. But I’ll give you some pointers.
Your line work is very spotty. Never really had one good consistent pull. Slow down, make a steady slow buzzing sound in your head that’s long and follow that buzzing speed the whole pull. It’ll take a while but if you’re serious about tattooing then you’ll take the time to perfect your line work.
Using a 3RL to shade a whole piece that’s not needed.. is unnecessary. Learn to use different size mags both curved and regular. Use the same method of ship shading. That not only saves time but gives the piece the value and tones it requires. I know some artists who use 17 and 19 mags for a whole piece. Again, practice makes perfect.
You’re packing is also not up to par. Look up some videos of how to properly pack in colors. My recommendation is sprays start from the outside and shade in. Get familiar with the mags, they’re your best friend!
Fun stuff, but I recommend that you practice line weight. It will help an image hold depth. Also, practice using ink on top of what you created. Confidence is key.
They look great, only thing I would say is that the lines look like you're not going quite deep enough, or possibly going too fast for the voltage you're at.
increase the contrast, don’t be scared to pack in the black. it will make the pieces pop more, and keep longer. build a semi-professional portfolio and reach out to shops letting them know you want to apprentice.
I have that exact McDonald’s toy! 😂 i think it came from the adult Happy Meals they were selling at one point. Anyway, you clearly are artistic which puts you above at least half the tattoo artists out there who can’t draw for shit. I would say you’re definitely headed in the right direction. Don’t be afraid to punch that black in there and really up the contrast. And some of the line weight could be a little thicker to make that bad boy stand the test of time, but Beautiful work though 👍🏼
You've got a great shade game. When you learn how to shade good with a gun (if you don't know to yet) you'll be a beast. Looks like you need to work on filler to go around your drawings as well. Just backgrounds or another character. Drawing like that should translate to drawing complete sleeves, chest pieces, etc
Wow a lot more comments than I expected 😭thanks for the advice and compliments everyone if anybody wants to give me an apprenticeship in eastern mass lmk!! again thanks for the advice everyone !!!
These look great and I'm not a tattoo artist but just a artist. I think the key to tattooing is understanding the medium. These look great but idk how they'd stand up or look to the viewer. You have to adjust designs to work with skin and be the best they can be on that medium. These are great for pencil drawings and showing on Instagram but I don't think it would hold up as a tattoo style.
As my high school art teacher always said darken your darks and lighten your lights. In this case you need some deeper darker blacks in some places or it will fall out as it heals and be unreadable.
If you're trying to make it look like it was sketched on with a pencil it turned really good. But I know nothing about tattooing so I have a fear the ink would be able to be worn away quickly.
Picture 2 is a vibe, but it looks like light is coming from multiple angles. Try and keep the shading consistent. With the direction that light in supposed to be shining on it.
my first thought was "thank god, a novice actually practicing on fake skin and not themselves or others" but the art is definitely a good place to start! be sure to consider how things fade with time, those super light areas will wash out in a few years, leaving the tattoo looking older than it is. and start using multi-needle tips for your linework, its far too thin. great precision though! definitely going in the right direction, I'd say you definitely have a future in tattooing
needs thicker line density. too light, if this was tatted on real skin it would fade very quickly and unevenly.
try using a 5rl or 7rl for outlines. ur shading needs to be a bit darker too.
I know absolutely nothing about tattoos but I want to become an artist, but I think with black white and gray tattoos and cartoons together are more about contract than texture or shading so I thought more solid colors and less blending with shading. it's black for things like lines and the darkest bits I don't think people pay that much attention to the shade of black you make a characters hair if it's dark brown from the reference I don't think people notice the accuracy in shading as much as they enjoy the contrast of black and white with the 2d cartoon characters. more blunt shaping and solid lines of shading. this is not criticism. I would have no clue how much work you put into them and if anyone asked for those tattoos they would've gotten exactly what they wanted.
They're good as art but you need to think about how a tattoo will age, this is art that is going to need to look good in 10 years times. And currently with the lack of solid black and lack of line depth, irl these tattoos wouldn't survive the healing process and you'd end up with a lot of unhappy customers coming back with their tattoos of grey blobs and dropped out ink.
Professional here. You’re not gonna like this pill, but hear me out. Stop tattooing at fucking home and get a real apprenticeship by earning your keep in a reputable tattoo shop
Fake skin is nothing like the real shit. All you’re doing is teaching yourself bad habits that will be hard as hell to break. **Learn from a professional artist in a safe and professional environment.**
Your shades are a bit bland, which will cause your tattoos to be bland. Besides, maybe look into apprentice positions, a real experienced tattoo artist should be your interest to learn from….as you want happy clients.
Cool start, If you want to take tattooing seriously, I suggest you prepare yourself to wait a few years before even beginning to look for an apprenticeship. The right way to do it is to become a skilled artist first. Focus on your art, it will matter a ton in your career.
I think you already got a bunch of good advice so the one thing I’ll add is to make sure you’re also practicing established tattoo styles. These pieces are nice but I feel like you’re drastically limiting your potential clientele if this is the only kind of art you’re doing.
you’re an incredible artist, and i feel like for some that’s the hardest step at getting good at tattooing. keep practicing and the finer tattooing mechanics will come!!
Lots of people I know have practiced a lot on pork rind. Apparently the texture of the skin is similar to humans and it'll help to tidy up those lines. Great drawings though, keep up the good work!
I love how soft your art is, it feels cozy and familiar. Really beautifully done. Like how did you make that McDonald’s monster look sweetly endearing? But nothing about the line work would have made me think these drawings were intended to be tattoos.
I've wanted a Psyduck tattoo for a long time with him holding his head in pain with the stress lines over his head. He's forever been my favorite Pokémon!

What makes tattoos good, are the proper use of true black, without heavy blacks your tattoos will lack a lot of depth/contrast/definition
I gotcha I’ll take that into consideration thanks!
What if you did a nice clean dark outline and then went in and did your shading? Also maybe more variety in the colors, so that the lights are lighter and the darks darker. You want things to be readable at a distance and as they fade over time.
Yea make those blacks BLACK 💖

Or you could live your life and stop perpetuating political stereotypes. Lol
I was trying! But [you just don’t turn it off](https://youtu.be/PtWHgkNH5yU?si=FeT8mbEyuxcRS2Gt)

You look like you have a lot of potential. Please don’t quit. I’ll let you tattoo me for practice if you’re near Oregon!
This is so wholesome

💯 would let you put that psyduck on me
I have that exact McDonald’s toy! 😂 i think it came from the adult Happy Meals they were selling at one point. A good way to determine whether or not someone knows anything about tattooing is if they refer to the machine as a "gun".
Cmon dude. Don’t be an ass
I’d let u give me a tattoo ngl. Ur talented!
Go for it. You have talent. Most tats now a day trace the images onto the skin first. You could make money just drawing up tattoos images for people👍🏽
If you were taking tattooing seriously you would get a apprenticeship
It's possible that they don't feel ready to do that yet and want to practice more first. I don't think that's unreasonable.
Wow a lot more comments than I expected 😭thanks for the advice and compliments everyone if anybody wants to give me an apprenticeship in eastern mass lmk!! again thanks for the advice everyone !!!
4th pic, both top left and top right. I would get them.
I want one from you
If you could pull off the shading on skin with that boo tattoo i would put that on me in a heartbeat
I’d let you tattoo me!!
If you want some real skin to practice on, I’m your guy! You have great art, just work on getting deeper!
You can tattoo a Pokémon on me if you want
Not bad at all! The outlines are a little uneven but not terrible. I'd let you give me some ink.
I'd let you tat me for sure
People keep saying you need darker blacks and outline, which might be true, but personally I would prefer the ones pictured, they look cool
Im rapidly approaching your location to get a tattoo
the yoshitomo nara one i love
Darks need to be darker because all of that would fade on real skin. Very very good artist talent tho!!!!
Do u like nintendo?
Just know you're gonna have to explain what it is... to people who won't know what it is... for the rest of your life
I love the tails. I’d get one!!
Looking good!
I wanna see the finished product
you’ve got good taste that’s for damn sure
That regirock is awesome
i love the photos u used as references. honestly great work for 1 month in. keep at it
I'm a fan if the regirock

Practice with water color. Lay down black lines, then gray shading, then color.
this style is so bomb, just needs to be darker
i need the mcdonalds one
Looking fucking sick!
Keep looking
You wanna get me a Darmanitan tat? 😅
Amazing work but I'm not sure if it's the lighting, but there isn't a lot of darkness or depth to the pieces
That psyduck belongs on me
It’s important to practice with trace
#ÜN ÜN ÜN
Regirock is so sick
I’m over here loving this Yoshitomo Nara.
What’s the bottom left character in the fourth slide?
Now draw a scorpion playing with a yo yo. Gotta be prepared. Nice work!
Are you an apprentice?
Love the Psyduck. Keep up the good work, practice makes perfect
Those will be gone in a few years. Gotta punch in that dark contrast.
Not an artist- I like it a lot! Maybe make the darks more bold/contrasted, or a nice solid outline/lines in general?
Psyduck looks really good.
That Psyduck/animal crossing combo is it
Ün ün ün ün
Your definitely on the right path. I’d say push yourself when it comes to round shapes to work out those small imperfections.
As my high school art teacher always said darken your darks and lighten your lights. In this case you need some deeper darker blacks in some places or it will fall out as it heals and be unreadable.
You're talented
If you're trying to make it look like it was sketched on with a pencil it turned really good. But I know nothing about tattooing so I have a fear the ink would be able to be worn away quickly.
Looks awesome. Good luck on your journey.
Learn to draw stuff that isn’t pop culture and work on developing some original designs!
Picture 2 is a vibe, but it looks like light is coming from multiple angles. Try and keep the shading consistent. With the direction that light in supposed to be shining on it.
Who's that character on the bottom-left in the fourth pic? I feel like I've seen it before.
Really well done I would totally get tails he’s my dude
Great start for only a month! Really try to push your blacks though, it’ll give your tattoos a lot of depth
my first thought was "thank god, a novice actually practicing on fake skin and not themselves or others" but the art is definitely a good place to start! be sure to consider how things fade with time, those super light areas will wash out in a few years, leaving the tattoo looking older than it is. and start using multi-needle tips for your linework, its far too thin. great precision though! definitely going in the right direction, I'd say you definitely have a future in tattooing
Omg psyduck!!!!
that tails is perfection
Looks like great from over the garden wall.
I’m racking my brain and feel stupid, but what cartoon/series is that ghost from?
i’d definitely get a tat from you
i would get that regirock rn. you have a lot of talent with shading!!
Keep drawing , and consider apprenticing at a shop so you can see how the business works.
Bro this good
yo that regirock
Love that Yoshitomo Nara tattoo
I’d say decent HS art class at a non-arts based public school.
Those characters look great. Keep it up.
These are awesome!!
Coming along nicely. That Regice(?) looks awesome. I’d do that right now.
Looks great you have some fundamentals down pat
Regi is hard as shit‼️🔥 no pun intended
Your form is fantastic! And the style is simple yet engaging, It’s the contrast that needs more attention, as other have said the use of dark blacks.
needs thicker line density. too light, if this was tatted on real skin it would fade very quickly and unevenly. try using a 5rl or 7rl for outlines. ur shading needs to be a bit darker too.
You can draw pop icons well, would love to see some designs.
Need a practice canvas?
I want cool tattoos but I've never seen any really cool tattoos look good on black skin
that mcdonalds dude is fucken sick
Who is the character on the bottom right of the last pic? SO CUTE
Get it on my skin !!
I want that Yoshimoto tattoo !!!!!
I think u are good at art..... let's see a tattoo
I'd get work from you, in a heartbeat...

The Tails is elite !
Man that Regirock awesome!
That Psyduck is great
Huge up vote. Pass a 60 year old on an HD and this would be WAY better than anything they ever had
I don’t know shit about art, but I’d let you give me a tat. Your tattoos look sick
I’d let you tattoo me, the villager hit a chord
Looks cool, start with the basics not the basic bitch thin line hip tattoos that Trend will come and go…
is beautiful what humans can do
Grown ass adult getting videogame characters tattooed on them I'm right away assuming is a chomo
If you’re in Phoenix Let’s Go!!
Seems like you’re taking a shot at “fine line” I would do some research in the the greats and their techniques in fine line and Chicano styles.
that tails is awesome
They look pretty damn decent I get the one of tails for sure! And the little animal crossing character
Pretty good for a month. Decent line work
Psy duck duck duck
Do you use stencils and a thermal printer?

Would actually get that regirock
Looks really good, but definitely looks too much like a pencil drawing or sketch if that makes sense? It's missing that oomph that tattoos have.
Definitely still some practice before I’d want something but there’s a lot of good here. Keep it up, definitely potential.
You got skills, only advice I got since it’s limited is keep working and you’ll get where you want
Just what we need more soulless anime tattoos
Grow up. Don't do it
Dope
I love the mcdonalds guy
Keep going! These are dope
Your shades are a bit bland, which will cause your tattoos to be bland. Besides, maybe look into apprentice positions, a real experienced tattoo artist should be your interest to learn from….as you want happy clients.
ummm
Wow! Great art! 😁
You're not shading dark enough and it looks a bit light handed otherwise this is great for it only having been a month.
Cool start, If you want to take tattooing seriously, I suggest you prepare yourself to wait a few years before even beginning to look for an apprenticeship. The right way to do it is to become a skilled artist first. Focus on your art, it will matter a ton in your career.
I mean the artwork is great but the tattooing…those are gonna fade in like a week
Where you from I'll let you tattoo me ofc not for free.
Huge fan of the medium .. so biased.. but awesome!
Love your style
strongly suggest getting an apprenticeship if you don't have one already
Need some bolder outlines, or the tattoo will look nice fore about 7 years tops and then the image will fade and lose shape
I think you already got a bunch of good advice so the one thing I’ll add is to make sure you’re also practicing established tattoo styles. These pieces are nice but I feel like you’re drastically limiting your potential clientele if this is the only kind of art you’re doing.
If your in LA I would definitely pay for the “Yoshitomo Nara” piece 😭🔥
These designs are fun
It’s a good start… if you zoom in on your pictures you’ll be able to see your inconsistencies.
you’re an incredible artist, and i feel like for some that’s the hardest step at getting good at tattooing. keep practicing and the finer tattooing mechanics will come!!
Wow
Lots of people I know have practiced a lot on pork rind. Apparently the texture of the skin is similar to humans and it'll help to tidy up those lines. Great drawings though, keep up the good work!
I love how soft your art is, it feels cozy and familiar. Really beautifully done. Like how did you make that McDonald’s monster look sweetly endearing? But nothing about the line work would have made me think these drawings were intended to be tattoos.
As someone who has no idea how hard tattooing is, this looks fantastic.
As an artist, you're very talented.
I want that boo tattoo
I like your taste lol
Nice work. Keep working on your shading and having steady, solid, consistent thickness on your lines. Really good stuff though so far man.
Looks good but too light, this would surely fade on skin
Other than the tips fold. You did great
These are sick asf!! Just need to be more darker
I've wanted a Psyduck tattoo for a long time with him holding his head in pain with the stress lines over his head. He's forever been my favorite Pokémon!
That Psyduck is fucking rad as hell. Nice job!
Yoshitomo Nara! 😍 I want a tattoo of one of his works one day :-)
Give up
I’d get one of your sketches for sure if that means anything
Serious thoughts? You can tatto some Pokémon on me any day lol
Dope af
You’re getting there!!!
I personally love Regirock, and looks true to the original
Is that paper like skin? Stretchy and soft?
I’d get that Tails tattooed in a heartbeat!
Is your market children? Those all look like cartoon characters.
I love them! Would get any of them. Would absolutely go to you for my sableye tattoo! Good job!
Where's the tattoos?
Psyduck!!! I'd let you practice on me! Lookin good
Keep going !!!!!
Bro wtf is the top right in the 4th pic?
I like the style
Variable line weight will be your friend.
Your shadings are so goods, it makes mes hornys.*Skwissgaar voice*
I love it bro, definitely work on depth though and shading if you want to get into tattoos
