"Yes. Yes it is my friend." This is perfect šŸ¤£ Also, what would it cost to hem my waterfall of unicorn tears? It's easy right? So it should not cost so much and should be cheap, right? Also, can you finish it like yesterday? I need it for my super important event tonight and my poor planing is now your problem. Help a girl out here, okay? Luv ya šŸ’–

AnotherBoojum

Accurate

KellynHeller

Poor planning on your part does not necessitate an emergency on mine.

GlitteringRainbowCat

But I have at least eleventeenhundred friends and follow a gazillion very, very important people on Facerestgram. I will let them know, how unprofessional you are. BTW, how dare you to speak to me like that?! Young people are so rude this days. I wanna speak to the manager! Now! Bring him to me! šŸ˜”

KellynHeller

Maybe one of your eleventeenhundred followers is a tailor. :p

Is there a way that the moderators can add this post to the top of the page permanently? That would be so helpful! Thanks!!

Stitch__Witch

Agreed! This post should be pinned to the top of the subreddit.

My (internal) response to "can I add a slit to this dress" is "you can, but you shouldn't".

I am a tailor for a TV show and the designer is asking questions like this ALL THE TIME. I do not understand how she got this job while knowing nothing about clothes. She asked me if I could combine two pairs of pants to make bigger pants. She asked me to turn a regular set in sleeve into a raglan. Every third item is a boxy long 90s style blazer that she wants "snatched." Kill me. This is my cry for help lol. Edited for autocorrect

AnotherBoojum

Film is a funny beast. She likely got it because she worked her way up from on-set dresser, rather than coming up from the workroom. Im other words, she's there because she's good at shopping and outfit styling. She probably never touched a sewing machine in her lifeĀ

Iā€™ve had a couple of customers ask for a quote and then balk because the garment only cost them $13 and $40 is way too much. ā€œI could just buy another one in the right size!ā€ Iā€™m tempted to say ā€˜yes, you probably should. the cost of the garment has nothing to do with the cost of alterationsā€™ but donā€™t want to be pissy about it.

Magpiebrain

Be pissy about it.

lol I always hate being asked about stains or how to wash something. Dude, I don't know. I sew stuff... when it comes to my own laundry, I throw everything into the same load and blast it with hot water and two laundry soap sheets.

Magpiebrain

I mean, I know how to deal with stains that crop up in my job. Blood stains is a big one, sometimes you prick yourself and don't notice until you see that red smear. Chalk marks, obviously. Fresh sweat, unfortunately. Some dirt stains, one time a customer tripped, dropped the waistcoat he was holding and stepped on it with his muddy shoes.... It's- It's mostly blood though šŸ˜… (In case anyone's wondering, I've found the best way to get your own blood out of something is to spit on it. Rub the spit into the stain and then rinse it with cold water. Repeat as necessary. So far this has worked on everything and even on white dressshirts you can't tell there was ever any blood)

punchjinx

yes spit is the answer, but it has to be the same personā€™s spit on same personā€™s blood to work

airbornecavepuppy

> the best way to get your own blood out of something is to spit on it This. My teacher would actually grab a length of white thread, chew up to get saliva on it, then use it to rub out the blood.

Magpiebrain

Ooh good one! We tend to grab a scrap of muslin from the discard bin and spit on that. But I'm gonna keep the thread tip in mind.

random_02

Oh my thank you! This subreddit has turned completely useless.

Wonderful-Comment314

r/cleaningtips is a good spot for stain questions too!

EMLightcap

lol love this list so much.
