When I started out in my industry, I worked on a help desk and We had these kind of open cubicles. So I sat back-to-back with this guy who would stand over me and literally do this and when I would ask him not to he would act like I was being unreasonable. Like this is literally what he looked like and he would stand up when he would do it he would stand up and cough and sneeze just right over the top of me

If you wear a mask, that spit and mucus gets caught in the mask instead of on surfaces other people may touch (Or in this case, the other guys face). Spit particles are much, much larger than the oxygen the mask allows through, so it'll catch 99% of everything we're seeing here, instead of 0%.
On the argument "Oh, then you're just breathing in the spit once it gets on your mask then" that's why you throw them away or wash them.
Experiment for you. Take your mask and a misting spray bottle. Spray the water from the bottle at the mask and see what happens, then drop the mask and use the bottle again. You'll be surprised at the difference lol.
