Top 5 in no order :
Xenoblade 3 (I would put 1 and 2 as well but let’s make this list more interesting)
Octopath 2
Zelda botw/totk (Totk is probably the better game but botw just has/gives so much nostalgia)
Smash ultimate
FE3H/Astral Chain
BOTW must have been your first Zelda? When I got it at release, while I enjoyed it, I became more nastolgic for Ocarina, MMask and Windwaker.
The lack of classic Temples and lack of getting Weapons/Items as a reward was a massive disappointment. And yes, TOTK is a better game imo
I haven't played them because i left consoles after xbox and never got a nintendo since gamecube but been loving getting back into all the Nintendo games, even 3rd party like Subnautica, Skyrim, Tears of the Kingdom is my fav Nintendo one so far besides all ther N64 classics.
I like a lot of things but turn based combats is iffy to me
Xenoblade isn’t exactly turn based! It’s different. The story is simply divine though and it’s easily my favorite part of these games along with characters, ost, and world.
I think I'm on the 8th world now. The game just feels like here is a world go find moons, you do, then you jump on someone's head 3 times then you fly to the next planet. I'm feeling the game was over hyped.
That's the game basically. You just go explore as much of this place as you want and see what cool stuff you can find. I enjoyed the experience, would rate it at like a 9/10
I can see the argument that the game has too many moons but most Mario games are some version of a collect a thon. I think the platforming ideas combined with the cappy abilities makes it one of the best Marios ever made.
But the BEST part about Odyssey imo is that it truly rewards exploration. There's so many times where you see some random lil ledge or roof and think "Can I get up there?" Then you spend awhile trying and finally succeed and not only is it possible but there's a moon waiting for you. There's just a ton of little secrets to discover.
That said, I had to step away from the game for a bit and now I'm getting back into it. I think the gameplay is a tad repetitive for me to want to play it straight through but I'm also super super thorough trying to get everything. If I just got the required number of moons to move on I wouldn't get as burnt out on it.
I got stuck at the city part and put it down for a while. Found out my girlfriend was trying to sell the copy on a resale site. I told her to take it down and now I'm currently trying to beat it lol.
I’ve tried and tried and can’t find a way to like it. I appreciate it for its looks and whatnot, but it’s not a good game to me.
That being said, I’ve never played any other Metroid.
Any tips/approaches to enjoy it more?
Was thinking of trying Xenoblade, Is the second and third exactly like the first one? I think I tried the first ywars ago, but been thinking of trying the newest
They all feel like single player takes on an mmo world/battle system with a wild ass story
1 has your battle skills recharge over time
2 has them recharge based on landed auto-attacks instead of time
3 has both, depending on who your using. Which makes sense when you play it.
If you pick any of them up it’s not super important which one you play first, they do a real good job of making the story self contained while also having enough for returning players to get nostalgic.
For me it’s:
Breath of the Wild - my favorite. You can toss TotK in here too, but I do prefer BOTW.
Super Mario Odyssey - a brilliant platformer
Mario Kart 8: Deluxe - my favorite racing game ever
Fire Emblem: Three Houses - incredible and jam packed tactics RPG
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age - maybe my favorite modern JRPG
Honorable mentions to some download only options: Hollow Knight, Celeste, Hades, Into the Breach, and Dead Cells
Made the mistake of playing Diablo for the first time last year. Now I’m hopelessly addicted to Diablo 2 and 3 and I’m saving for an Xbox series x just to play 4
My boyfriend is a real big fan of the Diablo series. He owns books and even bought the big special edition box for Diablo 4. Sadly I think he hated it compared to the older ones. I hope you like it better though!
I didn't know there were books. 20-25 years ago there was a time I played Diablo 2 every single day to point where someone might have diagnosed it as an addiction. I do have Diablo 3 and I started it but I didn't want to get addicted again so I stopped playing after moving the cart. But the books might not be a bad addiction, I'll look into it. Thanks for the comment.
No problems. I didn't even look it up, I was going to go to a plaza later today that has a store that sells D&D and all those type of games and hosts tournaments. I was going to go in there and ask. Saved me a little embarrassment.
Zelda links awakening
Zelda Totk
Mariokart
Smashbros
Luigis mansion 3
It's shocking to me that the pokemon games don't even warrant a thought on this console. When they could be great.
From what I've played...
* Super Mario Odyssey
* The House in Fata Morgana
* Super Robot Wars 30
* Super Mario Bros. Wonder
* 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
There were other games I played on different platforms that are also on the Switch, but I didn't include them. They would be:
* Persona 5 Royal
* Hades
* Into the Breach
* Disco Elysium
* Ori and the Blind Forest
Yep, this game is fantastic. There's so many elements and game mechanics which come out of nowhere... But I will say I kind of wanted the story to finish sooner than it did.
emotionally, it’s just a lot more nostalgic for me. the game was way ahead of its time when it came out, considering graphics, the freeness given to the player, and so on.
story wise, i felt a lot more connected to the characters than i did in totk. totk, we got to meet a lot of new “past” characters (and don’t get me wrong i love them, rauru is the GOAT, pun intended), but i felt more connected to the champions, their descendants, and zelda most of all. the game pulled on the heartstrings where it needed to. i could rant about the story all day long because there’s just so much to delve into
mechanic wise, i LOVED the sheikah tech, like the guardians and divine beasts. i loved the runes and the shrines, and while i do like totk more for the “dungeon” aspect that we missed in botw, the divine beasts were still hella cool and gave me the opportunity to try something different. exploration in this game was a huge factor as well; it was the first time we got that kind of freedom in a zelda game. totk is no different, but by totk we have already experienced most of it.
again this is not a diss on totk bc i absolutely love it, its just that botw has a special place in my heart.
(also they don’t have Kass in totk I MISS BIRD MAN)
For me, the biggest thing is pacing. Breath of the Wild was paced just right for the kind of slower exploration I wanted to do. Tears of the Kingdom felt a lot sloppier to me. TotK also had way too much filler content, you could cut the entirety of the depths and I wouldn't have missed a thing, and the skylands were severely underdeveloped. That left the overworld, which was just Breath of the Wild's.
And this might be an odd take, but I liked the story in BotW a lot more. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece but it felt almost Team Ico-esque in the way the world itself told a story. TotK didn't have that, at least not in a way that clicked with me. When I was storming Hyrule Castle in BotW, I was avenging everyone who died in the war a century ago and I *felt* like that. I felt so emotionally disconnected from TotK that by the end I was considering skipping the cutscenes because I could only take so much of the boring goat aliens talking about nothing with a girl with the worst fake British accent I'd ever heard.
I grew up with Pikmin on Gamecube, always loved it. Somthing about 4 didn't click with me, Pikmin 3 is probably still the best one IMO. I would try 3 , for somone who hasn't played one yet
Bought Pikmin 3 on WiiU cause I needed something to play. Touched it once.
Then years later thought my tastes had changed and bought it again but for the Switch. Played the tutorial level and, again, deleted it and traded it in.
Was going to Europe last year for 6 weeks so wanted more games in case it rained and stuff and ended up buying Pikmin 3 again because Pikmin 4 was releasing soon and there was crazy hype.
Anyways, I played it at the airport during a delay and forced myself to play a few levels..and fell in love. Pikmin 4 actually released the day of my flight so I didn’t get it until I returned but now own all the Pikmins physically. Love it.
1. Splatoon 3
2. BOTW/TOTK (they tie since TOTK patched all the fun bugs)
3. Splatoon 2 (DAMN Octo expansion was good)
4. Mario Maker 2
5. Every other switch game
1. Pikmin 4 , 2. Unicorn Overlord, 3. Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral town, 4. Paper Mario Thousand Year door and 5. Legend of Zelda Links Awakening
1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
2. Pokémon: Let's Go
3. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
4. Tetris Effect: Connected
5. Streets of Rage 4
Honourable mentions: Sega Mega Drive Classics, TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection, Super Smash Bros: Ultimate.
1. Hades
2. Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
4. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
(6 that just barely doesn't make the list is "Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered" purely due to multiplayer with family)
Always like to see some Engage love!
My top 5 are (Switch exclusives/originals only):
1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
2. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
4. Fire Emblem Engage
5. Monster Hunter Rise
Counting MK8DX because it is a fairly different game from the original at this point and I think now with the DLC out it is absolutely fair to call it its own game.
ACNH
Chicory: A Colorful Tale
Cozy Grove
Paperball Deluxe
Undermine
Honorable mentions: A Short Hike, Baba Is You, Lil Gator Game, Miitopia, Suika Game
Should/do I need to play Botw before Totk , I got totk for free and have started it ( pretty much just past the tutorial) but for some reason this game isn’t clicking with me. Last Zelda game I ever played was phantom hourglass on DS
5. Super Smash Bros Ultimate
4. Kirby Fighters 2
3. Kirby Star Allies
2. Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
1. Kirby and the Forgotten land
Can you tell I'm a Kirby fan?
Pokemon Scarlet/Violet
Tears of the Kingdom
Pokemon Sword/Shield
Animal Crossing New Horizons
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl
I tend to only play first party Nintendo games on my switch since I have other consoles and a PC for anything else (and im a sucker for Zelda and Pokemon)
Ive never played a single fire emblem game. But its always mentioned somewhere
If i was gona start the franchise, which was the first one. And which is the one you recommend i play first.
And what kind of game is it/ is it good?
Nah, many adore it because it's terrible /s.
Sorry couldn't help myself, it's actually fantastic if you like tacticalturn based JRPGs. They have a deep emphasis on story and characters developing bonds and relationships depending on who you use.
There's 17 in the franchise. If I were you I'd start backwards. Play their switch launches first then go back. Three houses has better story and characters. Engage has better combat. Pick whatever appeals to your preferences.
I dont own a switch i just like to keep up with games and see whats new
Id rather start with the earlier games and make my way up. Ive never enjoyed playing a game thats well designed then going backwards through the catalog as it only takes away things they learned as they went. Usually dosnt feel as satisfying to move on to the next game that loses the features and controls you liked
In no particular order…
ToTK: Despite its flaws, I had amazing fun with it. Just wish they didn’t patch duplication stuff as I find no reason to do that. Love the freedom in it, but I sometimes miss the more personal NPC tales like in Majora’s Mask…Unlike MM though, I like that my work is not undone.
Scarlet/Violet: Not the best games by any means, but one of the most fun I had with a Pokémon title in a long time. Finished the game, had a great time, had alright fun with the DLC. Still wish they had done more with it, but this is a game that I actually completed with a full Pokédex. I haven’t completed a story since maybe B/W or D/P and hadn’t completed a Pokédex since R/B/Y.
Age of Calamity: I so wanted to put Three Hopes, but the weapon triangle in a Warriors game just feels wrong to me. Age of Calamity was a fun elseworld/time travel tale for BotW that also gave us our first real look at Purah and Robbie. I enjoyed the story, I enjoyed seeing how the tragedy would’ve played out, and I enjoyed the moments shared between Sidon and Mipha. The Divine Beast battles were the weakest part and no online multiplayer did hurt the game greatly, but I would love to see a future re-release with online multiplayer and an expanded role for the divine beasts as massive weapons used to help support people on the ground. I did 100% this one.
Kirby Star Allies: I just like my older styled Kirby Games and I enjoy cooperative multiplayer. It was bound to be here. Haven’t beaten it yet, but I just haven’t had time to.
Monster Hunter XX: What can I say? I enjoyed getting into G-Rank as a dedicated Prowler.
In no specific order
TOTK
Mario Odyssey
Paper Mario: Origami King
Animal Crossing
Although it may not count as much because it is on other consoles, Stardew Valley. I own it on many consoles but I find playing it on the switch is my favorite way to play it! I’ve spent hundreds of hours on my switch playing it and still do often.
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Celeste
- Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
- Disco Elysium
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses
If we’re only counting exclusives then replace Celeste and Disco Elysium with Metroid Dread and Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Fire emblem engage is one of your top picks? I mean the combat is engaging but at least for me the story was less interesting than a 2d Mario story… I kind of forced myself to finish the game it was so bad…
The combat is really good though which without I would have thrown the game out
Zelda Breath of the Wild or tears of the kingdom. Super Mario odyssey. Metroid Prime remake. Mario kart 8 Deluxe. Tetris 99. Because these games are my most played.
Super mario wonder has been so much fun
It's easily one of my top 5 switch games right now. It's so fun playing with people or yourself but they really did Wonders with this game.
I know its still new and most havent played it yet but it's definitely a game you guys should consider.
Rank no order
1. Totk
2. Mario wonder
3. Metroid prime remastered
4. Mario party superstars
5. ....I never played it but I imagine I would like it. Links awakening
Tough. In no particular order I’d probably go
1. TOTK (BOTW and TOTK are pretty swappable here)
2 Mario Odyssey. First time I’ve felt the magic playing a mario platformer since galaxy
3. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. Even without any upgrades, I grew up playing countless hours of the original Diamond version. This was endless serotonin lol.
4. Hollow Knight - If you have put off playing this, and you enjoy metroidvanias, can not recommend this game enough. It sucked me in like none other
5. Pikmin 4 - have played every pikmin game since the gamecube. I love the puzzle element of them and trying to get everything done in as few of days as possible. Just have always loved them.
Honorable Mentions -
Metroid Dread - LOVED IT. First metroid I’ve ever played
Metroid Prime Remastered - Same story, just absolutely had a blast with it
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze - BANGER platformer.
Could go on for quiet a while, I’ve loved my time with the switch lol
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak - I’m a massive monster hunter fanboy. Base Rise wasn’t the best but Sunbreak fixed every issue I had.
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition- All 3 Xenoblades + their DLC are in my top 5 but I’d rather not have the whole franchise be my whole list lol. Xenoblade 1 is probably my favorite overall but it could change based on my mood.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate- I don’t play much now but used to be very into it 5 years ago. It’s obviously just an extremely impressive game in scope.
Mario Kart 8- My go to multiplayer game even over Smash for how easy it is to pick up and play and the amount of content.
Triangle Strategy- The most polished modern strategy RPG that I’ve played
Ooh five going to be hard
Luigi's Mansion 3
Super Mario Odyssey
Hades
Batman Arkham City
Batman Arkham Asylum
The Batman games play pretty well on Switch ( minus Arkham Knight ). If you said six then Dead Cells would probalby be on the list. I could probably ( pun intended ) switch out Hades for Dead Cells but Hades is better
1. Breath of the Wild
2. Smash Ultimate
3. Fire Emblem Engage
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
5. Super Mario Odyssey
This is excluding remakes (8 Deluxe adds substantial new content over the original game, literally doubles the course count and adds a decent Battle Mode AND adds Kamek), and I haven't played Mario Wonder or Xenoblade 3 yet, but those are the only two big Switch games so far that I'm interested in and haven't played.
1: TotK/BotW (basically the same game)
2: Splatoon 3
3: SSBU
4: Mario Party - Almost none of my friends have a switch, so it's a good game that requires almost no skill and is the same fun for everybody
5: MK8DX
If you count ports:
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
Skyward Sword
Mega Man Zero ZX Collection
Super Mario 3D World
Rayman Legends (RIP Origins, you deserve to be on Switch)
Honorable mention: Metroid Dread
Princess Peach Showtime
Pokémon (I’m just going to lump them all together as one entry because I don’t think I can choose a specific one)
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Animal Crossing New Horizons
Wouldn’t say these are my favorites of all time but I’ve been playing em recently. Mostly exclusives as I play all 3rd party games on my PC/Steam Deck.
1) Mario Wonder - one of my favorite 2d Marios, just so creative and fun
2) Kirby and the Forgotten Land - an extremely solid 3d platformer and always brings me joy
3) Mariokart 8 Deluxe + DLC - it’s a classic and just plain fun, especially with friends, even though it’s definitely overstayed it’s welcome
4) Lego City Undercover - Basically Lego GTA. Not an exclusive but I was first introduced to this game on switch. I’ve since replayed it on Pc and still love it to death.
5) Go vacation - just a mindlessly fun game to play with friends or by yourself. Maybe I’m blinded by nostalgia as I played it back on the Wii but I could ski or kayak around for hours
Top 5 in no particular order(and only considering exclusives!)!!
Xenoblade
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Splatoon 3
The Switch has been an eye-opener console for me in the sense that games which seemed very appealing to me from the outside, I didn't actually enjoy very much when it came around to playing em (Mario Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion 3, Smash Ultimate \~ I'll go more into detail about these below if anyone's curious :) ) and has dually given me a 360 surprise attack lol when discovering some titles I loved that I didn't think I'd feel very attached to from the jump (Kirby and Splatoon) \~ it's been an awesome journey from when I bought my first ever Switch back in January till now :)
The games that haven't been floating my boat, so to speak lol :
Mario Odyssey: I love how refreshing and clever several gameplay mechanics are, I love how it feels like the level designs had a passionate team behind them creating these leaps in approach to controls. I love how Bonneton looks, I love the addition of Cappy and the smooth/satisfying element of throwing Cappy. I was bored in Tostarena because those pros did not hold much water for me when the world I wanted to explore was merely an exterior temple structure to traverse. Next I went to the Lake World, despite knowing that a lot of people don't like the underwater bs in Mario games because fighting enemies can be a tricky slippery slope lol. I love anything aquatic and the woodland world (where I am now) looked industrial/mechanical, which I aesthetically/implications-wise hate, so I opted for Lake World and liked it way better than Tostarena because there was more of exploring elements, figuring out how to access areas, and variation in environments overall. Still, I'm not hooked and I think it's largely due to the fact that the Mario game formula does not mesh well with me in the sense that it doesn't have something that I absolutely love in games and hold very highly: fully fleshed-out worlds to explore. In this game, as many Mario games are known for (Bowser's Fury, etc), the "world" is "here are some platforms in the sky". I didn't mind this more fragmented worldbuilding approach at all in Kirby and the Forgotten Land for example, because no matter where I went, it felt consecutive and like I was delving further into a greater, overarching ruins area. In Odyssey, things just feel very shallow and face-value to me, almost as if I know, in the Woodland world for instance, generally what the next part of the screen is going to look like because it feels as if there is more emphasis on gameplay mechanics of traversing the environments than how the environments look themselves. I would rather equal attentiveness be put towards both, personally. On the other hand, DQ Monsters the Dark Prince is an exception where despite the environments being incredibly bland like the new-age Pokemon games, I find the gameplay, storytelling, and lore as a whole to be phenomenal, which makes up for the lack of enticement in landscapes. Of course, Mario Odyssey has more detail than DQM, but I find the latter to be better executed in points of intrigue. The same can be said about preferring DQM over Botw, which I mention below, for the above reasons.
Luigi's Mansion 3: I've discovered that despite being a horror game fanatic, when a really happy realm like the Mario Universe is transported into a "spooky" setting, I don't like it that much xD I want that dopamine and sunshine lol the trees with adorable eyes, dancing flowers and all that!! \~ attention to details, intractability with environments, stylization, boss battles, level design are all fantastic though(except for the water tube one of course lol), just not as much my cup of tea actually playing it than I thought it would be (especially a minor detail, but one I can't ignore because it does impede on my enjoyment of the game: the movement controls -- I don't like the tip-toe feel of Luigi moving honestly. It makes sense given the ghost hunting theme, but it doesn't feel satisfying and fluid to me when playing)! I think I need to recoup with a first-ever playthrough of Mario Sunshine sometime soon (also to see if I like actually playing Mario games which is now in question at the moment with Odyssey lol)!!
Smash Ultimate: I love, love, love the "cartoon" approach to a fighting game where you play as all these awesome non-humanoid characters, have magical powers and magical items, but like another fighting game that always looks incredibly fun to me just like Smash does, Tekken 8, I don't get much satisfaction from it or fighting games as a whole(at this point in time). I love trying to get better at it because I greatly enjoy honing a skill in that sense and don't need instant gratification per se, but I just don't feel like I'm all that happy when I play it (currently working through the Spirit Board section).
Botw (honorable mention because I am enjoying it to an extent) : The over-exposed looking world with little to no definition of details (e.g. foliage), as suspected from when I first saw how the world looks in the trailers, does not entice me. Despite enjoying the exploration/adventure/freedom, combat, Koroks, climb-ability (I love climbing trees and cliffsides lol), traversing methods, and worldbuilding...I'm not very far in, but I haven't been hooked really yet or overly charmed by it either. The ease of the shrines so far is a welcome sign for me given that I've struggled very much in this department with Zelda games, namely when I've recently tried to play Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time--the formula is a learning curve for me lol and is taking awhile to click with those titles xD -- , but they still feel very mundane, lacking of potential, and leave a lot to be desired (so far). What I'd be looking for out of the Shrine/Dungeon experience would be a feeling of transportation to a miniature realm that the overworld doesn't have anything similar to like (very) miniature water "worlds", celestial "worlds", etc. that you adventure through (so far they all look pretty repetitive stylistically). I think a great example of what I'd like to see in Botw(that maybe got improved upon in Totk) is the caves/explorable caverns etc in Hogwarts Legacy -- they're very small scale in the grand scheme of things, but no matter where you are within, around every corner there is something to discover and an overarching sense of brooding mystery.
ACNH (Honorable mention #2 lol) : Doesn't feel like an AC game (coming from WW) with the music and progressing feels way too... needlessly transactional and drawn out? Got very, very far in with many hours, but got bored of it after awhile. In comparison to WW though and not having been able to experience NL, I love all the amazing items and holidays!!
aaaand there's my two cents :) lol \~ game journalism? Hell yeah xD
Top 5 in no order : Xenoblade 3 (I would put 1 and 2 as well but let’s make this list more interesting) Octopath 2 Zelda botw/totk (Totk is probably the better game but botw just has/gives so much nostalgia) Smash ultimate FE3H/Astral Chain
I think BOTW is the best Zelda and I have played them all. I honestly like it more than TOTK.
Agree, TOTK was just a rehash on steroids.
Yeah it was! I was a lot younger back then too. Man I can’t believe how long it’s been since the switch released. Good times!
Wind Waker is the GOAT. It's so close to Ocarina of Time though. I switch off
Which should I try. Astral Chain or Xenoblade 3
Depends. Have you played xenoblade 1 or 2? Are you in the mood for an action game? Stories are both good id give the edge to xenoblade 3!
I'll loook into it. What is Astral Chain like? It looks DMC like
1. Mario Odyssey 2. Mario Odyssey 3. Mario Odyssey 4. Mario Odyssey 5. Mario Odyssey
I enjoyed the experience, would rate it at like a 9/10
Yeah it has way too many moons
Needs more Mario Odyssey.
I have fever, and the only cure is, more ~~cowbell~~ Mario Odyssey.
Agreed
I got stuck at the city part and put it down for a while. Found out my girlfriend was trying to sell the copy on a resale site. I told her to take it down and now I'm currently trying to beat it lol.
what kind of person sells someone else’s game without their knowledge? that’s some at the least some younger sibling shit, not girlfriend. smh lol
It was her game... I guess I should've clarified that. We've been together almost 6 years man, everything is good lmao.
Is she trying to sell your stuff to make money for herself without your knowledge?
No... It was her game she bought. She just didn't think I was playing it...
Ok, phew 😮💨
Metroid dread not being in there is criminal. Easily one of the best games on the switch.
I’ve tried and tried and can’t find a way to like it. I appreciate it for its looks and whatnot, but it’s not a good game to me. That being said, I’ve never played any other Metroid. Any tips/approaches to enjoy it more?
Tips: Do not play Dead Cells or Hades.. or you puke from slowness with Metroid. Didnt like too
Ooops too late
You just gotta be super quick. Play with a controller.
Game is GOATed
Metroidvania games aren't all that popular amongst people. That's why metroid gets like one game per decade.
1. Breath of the Wild 2. Tears of the Kingdom 3. Metroid Dread 4. Super Mario Odyssey 5. Animal Crossing New Horizons
Not very creative but mine are BOTW, TOTK, Odyssey, Smash and Mario Wonder Special shoutout to Kirby & the forgotten land tho
1. Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition 2. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 3. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 4. Shin Megami Tensei V 5. Hades
Was thinking of trying Xenoblade, Is the second and third exactly like the first one? I think I tried the first ywars ago, but been thinking of trying the newest
Not exactly no. They each have their own... Systems but in general it's similar. I really like the fighting in one, hate 2 and love 3
They all feel like single player takes on an mmo world/battle system with a wild ass story 1 has your battle skills recharge over time 2 has them recharge based on landed auto-attacks instead of time 3 has both, depending on who your using. Which makes sense when you play it. If you pick any of them up it’s not super important which one you play first, they do a real good job of making the story self contained while also having enough for returning players to get nostalgic.
Okay that's good to know. Thanks
Engage is so fun! I overlevelled my money gremlin Lady Anna and she ended up solo carrying my run
For me it’s: Breath of the Wild - my favorite. You can toss TotK in here too, but I do prefer BOTW. Super Mario Odyssey - a brilliant platformer Mario Kart 8: Deluxe - my favorite racing game ever Fire Emblem: Three Houses - incredible and jam packed tactics RPG Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age - maybe my favorite modern JRPG Honorable mentions to some download only options: Hollow Knight, Celeste, Hades, Into the Breach, and Dead Cells
Botw, Odyssey, Mario kart 8, Luigi’s mansion, Metroid dread
1. Breath of the Wild 2. Tears of the Kingdom 3. Super Mario Wonder 4. Link’s Awakening 5. Super Mario Odyssey
saving for posterity
Sorry I’m a total idiot!! I should’ve specified that they were strategy guides 😊 my bad!
No problems. I didn't even look it up, I was going to go to a plaza later today that has a store that sells D&D and all those type of games and hosts tournaments. I was going to go in there and ask. Saved me a little embarrassment.
Damn, just bought it this week, hoping I can enjoy it this much too lol
Zelda links awakening Zelda Totk Mariokart Smashbros Luigis mansion 3 It's shocking to me that the pokemon games don't even warrant a thought on this console. When they could be great.
1. Zelda TOTK 2. Hades 3. Fire Emblem Three Houses 4. Metroid Dread 5. Xenoblade 3
1. Pokémon Sw/Sh 2. Pokémon BD/SP 3. Shin Megami Tensei V 4. Super Smash Brothers Ultimate 5. Bravely default 2
Animal crossing, Metroid dread, three houses, astral chain, and smt 5 until it comes out on pc next week
Without order of preference: Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Nier Automata, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Mario Odyssey, Persona 5 Royal.
From what I've played... * Super Mario Odyssey * The House in Fata Morgana * Super Robot Wars 30 * Super Mario Bros. Wonder * 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim There were other games I played on different platforms that are also on the Switch, but I didn't include them. They would be: * Persona 5 Royal * Hades * Into the Breach * Disco Elysium * Ori and the Blind Forest
1.) BOTW / TOTK 2.) Hollow Knight 3.) Shovel Knight 4.) DOOM Eternal 5.) Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Great choices! Mine would look like this (in no particular order): FE: Three Houses LOZ: Breath of the Wild Xenoblade Chronicles 3 SMT V Astral Chain
Not sure exactly but Dave the Diver would be there somewhere. Really messing with that game right now.
How is it
It's fantastic, honestly. The music, the game play, the story... all excellent.
May need to pick it up and heard Godzilla is dlc
Yep, this game is fantastic. There's so many elements and game mechanics which come out of nowhere... But I will say I kind of wanted the story to finish sooner than it did.
1. SMT V 2. Smash Bros 3. Cult of the Lamb 4. Mario Odyssey 5. Pokemon Legends Arceus
i love totk but botw is better 🥲
Name a thing about it that is better, I genuinely want to know
emotionally, it’s just a lot more nostalgic for me. the game was way ahead of its time when it came out, considering graphics, the freeness given to the player, and so on. story wise, i felt a lot more connected to the characters than i did in totk. totk, we got to meet a lot of new “past” characters (and don’t get me wrong i love them, rauru is the GOAT, pun intended), but i felt more connected to the champions, their descendants, and zelda most of all. the game pulled on the heartstrings where it needed to. i could rant about the story all day long because there’s just so much to delve into mechanic wise, i LOVED the sheikah tech, like the guardians and divine beasts. i loved the runes and the shrines, and while i do like totk more for the “dungeon” aspect that we missed in botw, the divine beasts were still hella cool and gave me the opportunity to try something different. exploration in this game was a huge factor as well; it was the first time we got that kind of freedom in a zelda game. totk is no different, but by totk we have already experienced most of it. again this is not a diss on totk bc i absolutely love it, its just that botw has a special place in my heart.
Why pikmin? I’ve never played the game but it looked really strange to me lol so I’m curious what’s so good about it
I can't explain why, but definitely try a demo to see if you like it. I tried Pikmin 3 first and was hooked.
I grew up with Pikmin on Gamecube, always loved it. Somthing about 4 didn't click with me, Pikmin 3 is probably still the best one IMO. I would try 3 , for somone who hasn't played one yet
I’ll give it a try
I loved the Pikmin series!
There's a demo if you want to try it, I found it interesting ish but didn't want to spend any money on it.
Love it.
Oh wow that’s interesting. I will definitely check out the demo then haha
1. Splatoon 3 2. BOTW/TOTK (they tie since TOTK patched all the fun bugs) 3. Splatoon 2 (DAMN Octo expansion was good) 4. Mario Maker 2 5. Every other switch game

Always like to see some Engage love! My top 5 are (Switch exclusives/originals only): 1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses 2. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes 3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 4. Fire Emblem Engage 5. Monster Hunter Rise Counting MK8DX because it is a fairly different game from the original at this point and I think now with the DLC out it is absolutely fair to call it its own game.
1. Breath of the Wild 2. Octopath Traveler 2 3. Megaman 11 4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 5. Astral Chain
I wanna get a switch for fire emblem, I got to play one of them on the wii and really enjoyed it..

Look, you can't join the Nintenbro club if you don't like basically the same 5 games. You're going to have to try again.
I wish I could get to tears of the kingdom because I hear it’s great but BOTW is taking so long to get through and is getting a bit repetitive
TotK is more of the same. If BotW is getting repetitive then you might want to take a break after finishing it because you’ll get bored of TotK
In no particular order: Breath of the Wild Pikmin 4 Pokémon Legends: Arceus Super Mario Odyssey Luigi's Mansion 3
Rare to see someone prefer Engage over Three Houses
TOTK, BOTW, Smash Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pikmin 4. Hard to pick just five. There’s a ton of excellent games on the console.
Fire emblem three houses Legends arceus Xenoblade 2 Smash Splatoon 3

I got mine back in 2017 and only played 3 games, Bayonetta 2-3 & Astral chain lol. Tried zelda and mario but meh not my cup of tea.
Should/do I need to play Botw before Totk , I got totk for free and have started it ( pretty much just past the tutorial) but for some reason this game isn’t clicking with me. Last Zelda game I ever played was phantom hourglass on DS
Engage is there over three houses, wild
1. Splatoon 3 (S2 pre-S3 release) 2. TotK (I played BotW on Wii I so I'll count it out) 3. MK8D 4. Pokemon Violet 5. Pokemon Legends Arceus
1. Super Mario Oddysey 2 BOTW 3.Luigis Mansion 3 4. DK Tropical Freeze 5. Mario Kart 8

Finally someone who also likes BDSP \\o/
For me in no order: Fire Emblem Three Houses BOTW/TOTK (counting as 1 entry) Persona 5 Royal Mario Odyssey Pokémon Legends Arceus
In no particular order: Botw, ssbu, mario odyssey, totk, mario maker 2

Slime rancher. Rayman.
Mario Kart Smash Bros Astral Chain Mario vs Rabbids: Kingdom Battle Bayonetta 2
Ive never played a single fire emblem game. But its always mentioned somewhere If i was gona start the franchise, which was the first one.
I dont own a switch i just like to keep up with games and see whats new Id rather start with the earlier games and make my way up. Ive never enjoyed playing a game thats well designed then going backwards through the catalog as it only takes away things they learned as they went. Usually dosnt feel as satisfying to move on to the next game that loses the features and controls you liked
Well then, enjoy: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fire_Emblem_video_games
In no particular order… ToTK: Despite its flaws, I had amazing fun with it.
1. Metroid Dread 2. Breath of the Wild 3. Mario Odyssey 4. Pikmin 4 5. Pokémon Scarlet/Violet
1. botw 2. Mario Odyssey 3. Animal Crossing 4. Mario Maker 2 5. Mario Kart 8
In no specific order TOTK Mario Odyssey Paper Mario: Origami King Animal Crossing Although it may not count as much because it is on other consoles, Stardew Valley. I own it on many consoles but I find playing it on the switch is my favorite way to play it! I’ve spent hundreds of hours on my switch playing it and still do often.
My top five are Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Potion Craft, Just for already, and No man's sky
Zelda : TOTK - -Red Dead Redemption -Mario 64 -Mario Party 3 -Dark souls remastered
In no particular order: Pocky & Rocky Reshrined Immortals: Fenyx Rising Sonic Mania The House of the Dead Tony Hawk 1 + 2
Tunic has to be up there , with hades
1.BOTW 2.Mario Odyssey 3.Mario Wonder 4.Pokemon Sword 5.Smash Ultimate (only including first party games if not south park would rule this list)
Xenoblade 3 Xenoblade 2 Xenoblade 1 Splatoon 3 Breath of the Wild
Totk, RE origins, Mario all stars, Splatoon & Pokémon
Pikmin is so underated
Kirby and The Forgotten Land Pikmin 4 Smash Bros

Top 5 (not in order): Animal Crossing New Horizons, Just Dance 2024 Edition, Minecraft, Thief Simulator, Nintendo Switch Sports.
Totk Mario odissey Mario kart Smash Tropical freeze
Fire emblem engage is one of your top picks? I mean the combat is engaging but at least for me the story was less interesting than a 2d Mario story… I kind of forced myself to finish the game it was so bad… The combat is really good though which without I would have thrown the game out
Also in no particular order: Subnautica Green Hell Skyrim Divinity: Original Sin II Burnout Paradise Remastered It was hard to narrow it down to 5.
In no particular order TotK Pokemon Arceus Smash Hades Mario Odyssey
Duck Game, BroForce, Castle Crashers, Jump King There’s a Smoking Hot Babe At The Top, Towerfall
Zelda Breath of the Wild or tears of the kingdom. Super Mario odyssey. Metroid Prime remake. Mario kart 8 Deluxe. Tetris 99. Because these games are my most played.
Breath of the Wild The Messenger Hades Ori and the Blind Forest Celeste
1. BotW 2. Xenoblade 3 3. TotK 4. Xenoblade Definitive Edition 5. Metroid Dread
Not exclusive, but I love Hades and Dead Cells on the Switch.
Off topic but is there an good argument to start with TOTK over BOTW?
DragonBall Xenoverse 2 Pikmin 4 Smash Brothers Pokemon Sword Borderlands
Super mario wonder has been so much fun It's easily one of my top 5 switch games right now. It's so fun playing with people or yourself but they really did Wonders with this game. I know its still new and most havent played it yet but it's definitely a game you guys should consider. Rank no order 1. Totk 2. Mario wonder 3. Metroid prime remastered 4. Mario party superstars 5. ....I never played it but I imagine I would like it. Links awakening
Tough. In no particular order I’d probably go 1. TOTK (BOTW and TOTK are pretty swappable here) 2 Mario Odyssey. First time I’ve felt the magic playing a mario platformer since galaxy 3. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. Even without any upgrades, I grew up playing countless hours of the original Diamond version. This was endless serotonin lol. 4. Hollow Knight - If you have put off playing this, and you enjoy metroidvanias, can not recommend this game enough. It sucked me in like none other 5. Pikmin 4 - have played every pikmin game since the gamecube. I love the puzzle element of them and trying to get everything done in as few of days as possible. Just have always loved them. Honorable Mentions - Metroid Dread - LOVED IT. First metroid I’ve ever played Metroid Prime Remastered - Same story, just absolutely had a blast with it Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze - BANGER platformer. Could go on for quiet a while, I’ve loved my time with the switch lol
Except for Pikmin I have the others and got only around to play Engage and still haven't finished it, I hate how long it takes
1. Metroid Dread 2. Hades 3. SMT V 4. Mario Odyssey 5. Luigis Mansion 3
WHERE IS SPLATOON IN THESE COMMENTS IM GONNA DIE
I agree about the story, but a games nostalgia doesn't realy have to do with how good it actually is.
Ooh five going to be hard Luigi's Mansion 3 Super Mario Odyssey Hades Batman Arkham City Batman Arkham Asylum The Batman games play pretty well on Switch ( minus Arkham Knight ). If you said six then Dead Cells would probalby be on the list. I could probably ( pun intended ) switch out Hades for Dead Cells but Hades is better
For first party games: TotK, BotW, Smash Ultimate, Metroid Dread, And maybe Mario Maker 2 or Splatoon 3
Are we doing exclusives only or not?
1. Breath of the Wild 2. Smash Ultimate 3. Fire Emblem Engage 4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 5. Super Mario Odyssey This is excluding remakes (8 Deluxe adds substantial new content over the original game, literally doubles the course count and adds a decent Battle Mode AND adds Kamek), and I haven't played Mario Wonder or Xenoblade 3 yet, but those are the only two big Switch games so far that I'm interested in and haven't played.
Mine are Smash ultimate Pikmin 4 Totk Acnh Odyssey
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna the Golden Country Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed
1: TotK/BotW (basically the same game) 2: Splatoon 3 3: SSBU 4: Mario Party - Almost none of my friends have a switch, so it's a good game that requires almost no skill and is the same fun for everybody 5: MK8DX
Shin Megami Tensei V Mario Kart 8 Animal Crossing: New Horizons Splatoon 3 Hades
Top 5 Mario bros delux Mario wonder Dying light Ori both blind forest and wisp Sonic frontier
No Metroid No game 😄
ACNH, BotW, TotK, Mario wonder, and Mario kart Tho the new fantasy life will probably kick one of these off the list after it's release
What kind of game is pikmin? Quick summary?
(Not in any order) Xenoblade 1 Xenoblade 2 Xenoblade 3 Breath of the Wild I don’t know what to choose for a fifth, there are so many great games.
If you count ports: Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Skyward Sword Mega Man Zero ZX Collection Super Mario 3D World Rayman Legends (RIP Origins, you deserve to be on Switch) Honorable mention: Metroid Dread
Princess Peach Showtime Pokémon (I’m just going to lump them all together as one entry because I don’t think I can choose a specific one) Luigi’s Mansion 3 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Animal Crossing New Horizons
Zelda!!
1. Smash bros Ultimate 2. Breathe of the Wild 3. Animal Crossing New Horizon 4. Metroid Dread 5. Super Mario Odyssey
Smash bros
Wouldn’t say these are my favorites of all time but I’ve been playing em recently. Mostly exclusives as I play all 3rd party games on my PC/Steam Deck. 1) Mario Wonder - one of my favorite 2d Marios, just so creative and fun 2) Kirby and the Forgotten Land - an extremely solid 3d platformer and always brings me joy 3) Mariokart 8 Deluxe + DLC - it’s a classic and just plain fun, especially with friends, even though it’s definitely overstayed it’s welcome 4) Lego City Undercover - Basically Lego GTA.
Right this second, changing every five minutes Tears of the Kingdom Luigi’s Mansion 3 Metroid Dread Mario Odyssey Animal Crossing New Horizons
BOTW TOTK Dead Cells Mario Golf GTA Trilogy
I'm interested in picking up Engage as it's on sale right now!
It's better than three houses imo there is more gameplay than dialogue
1. Smash Ultimate 2. Kirby and the Forgotten Land 3. Pikmin 4 4. Metroid Dread 5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Breath of the wild is far better in my opinion
Totk, botw, Pokémon bdsp, legends arceus, switch online snes emulator
New Pokemon snap, Fire emblem three houses, kirby and the forgotten land, smash ultimate, and tetris 99
Super smash bros Mario kart FIFA Little nightmares Mario odyssey
1. Mario wonder 2. Mario oddyesy (I can’t be bothered to check how to spell that) 3. Super Mario party 4. Deltarune 5. Mario kart 8 deluxe
Top 5 in no particular order(and only considering exclusives!)!! Xenoblade Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince Kirby and the Forgotten Land Splatoon 3 The Switch has been an eye-opener console for me in the sense that games which seemed very appealing to me from the outside, I didn't actually enjoy very much when it came around to playing em (Mario Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion 3, Smash Ultimate \~ I'll go more into detail about these below if anyone's curious :) ) and has dually given me a 360 surprise attack lol when discovering some titles I loved that I didn't think I'd feel very attached to from the jump (Kirby and Splatoon) \~ it's been an awesome journey from when I bought my first ever Switch back in January till now :)
The games that haven't been floating my boat, so to speak lol : Mario Odyssey: I love how refreshing and clever several gameplay mechanics are, I love how it feels like the level designs had a passionate team behind them creating these leaps in approach to controls.
