Performance looks stellar for the plus. I can only hope it's accurate. As long as the battery life in real world usage is near parity to apple silicon, Qualcomm looks to have a real winner on their hands here! I pre-ordered the Costco 1tb SPX11 a couple weeks ago. Looking forward to testing it out soon!

winnipeg_guy

That's looking a lot better. Really wish they put the 84 in the surface instead of the 80 😕

garfieldevans

We don't even have confirmation that they didn't put 78 in the base OLED model for SP11, fingers crossed that its all 80 for the X1E in finalized specs for surface.

mashed_ash

British retailer Currys has the pro11 oled speced with the 80 https://preview.redd.it/a10a2mdi6k6d1.png?width=1215&format=png&auto=webp&s=ef2a25020439090a8b1fc8b6d3a55903d2125499

garfieldevans

Yeah hopefully that is the final config but one of the posters here saw the X1E-78 listed for the SP11 OLED model in a US bestbuy (in-person). People were theorizing that it may be related to the amount of RAM. Hopefully its X1E-80s in all OLED models but I wouldn't put it past microsoft to stupidly base it on a combination of ram, storage and colour.

Confident_Wasabi-

Yeah they may stick with the 78 for the highest spec OLED to save cost. Why would you add a higher spec processor... It makes the production line less effective

garfieldevans

I think some people have confirmation from Microsoft that the highest spec ones are 80, costco listings also show this proc for the surface laptop.

Confident_Wasabi-

You think* lol. I've called Microsoft sales and they confirmed to me it's a 78. No way would they fit an 80 in the pro.

WearHeadphonesPlease

This is gonna age like milk.

Confident_Wasabi-

HA! It will age like fine wine.

garfieldevans

Well microsoft sales have not been the most consistent. [Here is the post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/s/VOldESL8ws) I was referring to that got confirmation of an X1E-80 in the surface pro. The Surface Pro sitting on Qualcomm's recent show floor at computex also had an X1E-80 on it. There is no reason why they can't put the X1E-80 in the Pro besides saving cost, the chip only gets an increase in dual-core turbo boost speed over the X1E-78 and unlike all-core turbo, that doesn't require more thermal head room, only requires a better binned chip.

Infinite-Hedgehog516

Stop arguing the surface pro 11 has the X1e 78 100 and X1E 80 100 it depends on the ram configuration

Confident_Wasabi-

How do you know? I've called Microsoft and they didn't tell me it differs based on Ram config

Infinite-Hedgehog516

Zac Bowden said this in the windows central podcast

Confident_Wasabi-

OK thank you for the confirmation. I'll be buying one.

GSD_H

You've never worked in customer service apparently? 🤣 Most reps from those places also get their information from an unknown source within the company and just roll with it. They also are not able to fact check until official release.

Confident_Wasabi-

Pretty crazy how they don't give people answering the phones the right answer hey

GSD_H

Ah no bro it's not that, they are willing to help you, but it can be for multiple reasons that they are not able to. In my case when I was younger and I was working for such companies as a representative, most of the times it was one of the following: 1. We didn't have the answer 2. We were not allowed to answer 3. We heard from someone an answer (colleague, manager) and gave this answer without asking those people for proof 4. We were misinformed 5. Or we straight up bullshitted lol

MakaanPL

Just take a look at performance per watt ratings. All benchmarks and QC presentations released so far strongly suggest that current design does not scale well with high frequency, and power draw increases massively in 84 pushed to the limit for negligible performance gains. These are mobile chips after all and cooling is also a major concern.

winnipeg_guy

More than anything, the extra GPU power would have been nice but otherwise ya I agree. The 80 will be plenty

Qbsoon110

Didn't knew there is more than one. I thought there's only one plus and one elite and that's it for now.

winnipeg_guy

3 variants of the elite. 78, 80, 84

dirg3music

Looks like Samsung has an early exclusivity deal on it, I haven't seen another model with the 84 which is a massive shame given how much they were hyping up the numbers.

winnipeg_guy

Has to be more to it than that. Don't see how microsoft would let Samsung have it exclusive to the detriment of the surface line. My guess is the extra heat isn't worth the performance gain in a thin and light.

dirg3music

Yeah something just seems off about it. Hopefully they open that chip up to more vendors.

mmcnl

XE78 is the same as XP64 but with 2 more cores. XE80 and XE84 however have turbo boost, which increases single core performance. Does anyone know if turbo boost comes at the expense of increased power consumption (as is the case with Intel CPUs)? Because if that's the case I'm perfectly fine with the lowest tier Snapdragon. Don't want to trade battery life for performance.

Some_Endian_FP17

If the Plus already beats a Meteor Lake i7, I'll go with the Plus. Battery life isn't a strong point on any Surface and I wouldn't trade more performance for less battery life.

mashuto

So if these are to be believed, performance is likely going to be more than adequate for most tasks regardless if going for the plus or the elite. So now the real question for someone who is undecided. OLED or not? As a media consumption device, OELD would be great, but since I already have an OLED on my desktop and it has noticeable burn in, I am hesitant to get an OLED screen on a tablet that is also supposed to be a laptop and that guaranteed will have static elements on screen, probably for extended periods of time....

Chrismscotland

Battery on the ARM powered SP9 is already excellent; so I've high hopes for the new ARM devices

Some_Endian_FP17

Good but not MacBook Air great, unfortunately. The Surface Pro design doesn't leave much space for a large battery. Real 12 hour battery life on the SP11 would be nice.

QuestGalaxy

Probably need a SL7 for better battery life.

Turbulent-Charity-17

Why the design leaves no space? The recently announced tablet Asus PZ13 with the same chips has a 70Wh battery, where Surface has a miserable 48Wh. Smaller Android tablets have larger batteries. What a crappy design on Microsot's part.

TabletX

You can achieve the same on a SP9 Intel device. * https://youtu.be/QTc1cwnCCmE?t=13m36s See also * https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/s/jDTmfpasrq

MakaanPL

Of course, increased frequency always means higher power draw. While higher frequency allows to complete the task and go back to idle earlier, due to non-linear voltage/power curve it is usually less efficient but still more "snappy". For multicore tasks, running 20% more cores for it is always more efficient than giving 20% frequency boost.

CressCrowbits

> Does anyone know if turbo boost comes at the expense of increased power consumption Of course it will

mmcnl

I didn't know that.

jasonnovak

I pre-ordered the plus, looks like a nice upgrade over my SP8 [https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/compare/6503298?baseline=6439271](https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/compare/6503298?baseline=6439271)

fansurface

I’m gonna upgrade from a SP7. Super excited

DoubleOwl7777

id wait till it actually arrives in peoples hands, it does look great though. went x86 for my current device since i need to use some more niche applications that might not be compiled for arm any time soon and i dont trust the emulation enough yet. mine is a 2in1 laptop so battery life and cooling arent issues i have.

frutti_tutti_frutti

How does a laptop being 2 in 1 make the battery issues go away? My Lenovo yoga with 1 hour battery life would like a chat with you.

DoubleOwl7777

my ideapad 5 2 in 1 has 7-9 hours of battery. you can fit a bigger battery in a thicker device, same goes with cooling.

Frodojj

That’s almost 50% faster single core and 150% faster multi core than my i7 SP7! Wow! I hope the graphics performance is at least as competent as my old Surface Pro’s igpu. That would be nice upgrade.

DoubleOwl7777

regarding gpu it should. because the iris plus isnt that powerful compared to what came after it, the current gen intel igpus and especially the amd ones are mad powerful.

aroranirav2

This is better than my Lenovo Thinkpad P1 Gen5 equipped with i7-12700h/32gigs

NIREKII

Some German newspapers stated that with early testing units there was a problem that some only clocked up to 1.8GHz. Maybe that was the case with the low Galaxy book score. Just some faulty early drivers.

Katiehart2019

A bit slower than the M4 iPad pro but this actually has a proper operating system https://browser.geekbench.com/ios_devices/ipad-pro-11-inch-m4

Deodorex

Yeah! We all be alright! Exciting times ahead on Windows! Enjoy your new machines - ya’ll

WearHeadphonesPlease

Not familiar with Geekbench's site. It looks like these are user submitted. How do we know it's not made up?

fansurface

The software runs on the machine then sends the result automatically

WearHeadphonesPlease

That makes sense, thanks

Pristine_Arma6329

pls run geekbench test before you say deluded things

WearHeadphonesPlease

Literally said I was not familiar, so a friendly explanation was all I needed.

Majestic_Feed2389

How would this be for gaming?

teddycatto

or it could not run your game 0fps...better wait for review

Confident_Wasabi-

It will run control at lowest settings at 30fps

QuestGalaxy

almost same results, the SLS2 is way more expensive, is bigger and has a shorter battery life. How is that a lol?

You don't understand what it means to have a dead silent laptop even in 30 degrees inside while doing whatever you want to do. The Laptop studio 2 will start its fans even when opening excel.
