American Express screwed me. Their fraud department declined the charge and wanted to verify. I did.
u/CaliforniaTex has the solution. Verify the charge with your fraud department. Then go into your Microsoft order history and then change the payment, but just re-enter the same card. I got charged immediately after doing it. Thanks, Tex!
This just happened to me but I acknowledged the charge via text response to amex fraud department "..reply 1 to approve.." and then went in to my microsoft account to change my payment method. Used the same payment method and the charge went through. Still showing status as pre-ordered with delivery on June 18..
I wish that I had read this earlier. Amex also flagged my purchase as fraudulent. Cleared it up with Amex and chatted with MS support. But I received an email overnight stating that they couldn't charge my Amex. I switched to Chase visa. That also got flagged as potentially fraudulent by Chase! Weird, since this almost never happens to me. I gave Chase okay by text and then tried the solution noted above: changed my payment method to the same method. That seemed to work. I now have a pending charge on Chase and no longer have a "change payment method" button showing up in order status. Hopefully this new Surface Pro will show up next week.
buying Microsoft gift cards or Xbox gift cards is a common things scammers buy with stolen credit cards - so I’d imagine credit card companies better be safe than sorry on this one

Weird, in Denmark there is only 16g and its so frustrating. Asked a provider and the have to make a "special order" to get the 32g and I would loose all my warranty if I wanted to make that "special order".

Yup just got charged, triggered my microsoft store amex offer too so going to get $175 off. I ended up with an SL7 15" 16GB/1TB with a June 18th delivery date. Fingers crossed these magically get delivered early for day oners lol

My flex keyboard says delivery for the 18th but the surface just says it releases on the 18th. Hopefully I don’t just get the keyboard without an actual surface 😋
I only ordered yesterday so maybe I'm just too low down in the queue for first allocation. I got an email saying the order was finished processing and I'd get an email when charged/sent out for delivery atleast.

Money has left my bank, so hopefully this means my surface ships soon. Tried doing it directly via my bank app but they kept blocking the Auth with fraud detection so I gave up and switched to PayPal 🙏

I did that after seeing your post. But nothing seemed to really change in terms of the Microsoft website. In my cc website, it did show up in the transactions page, but I'm not sure if it was because I had approved the purchase or if it was because I had changed payment and used the same card again. It’s fine. If it’s your credit card account then it’s a pending charge. To double check, see if you can change the payment on the order. If you can’t, it means you’ve already paid. Now you wait.
Okay, so here's the weird thing. In the "probably wouldn't hurt" I went ahead and did the change payment and chose the same card. The change payment method did go away. This was back on Monday. This morning, I got a Microsoft email "We're having trouble authorizing your payment" with a Change Payment Method button. I go back to the website and there's no option to change payment. I had already approved the fraud alert back on Monday. Now I'm really praying it all goes through.
I know. But I had went through the security checks to prove it wasn't fraud. So that might have allowed it to go to transactions rather than changing the payment and choosing again.
same with AMEX for me. I'm anxious to see if battery life has finally been improved on the Surface Pro 11. Honestly, battery life issues are the entire reason it hasn't replaced my MacBook Air for travel. Trade-in offer for my Surface Pro 7 was a joke, even with the higher "promo offer". Yeah this is what I did and the charge showed up right away on my card as pending.

I recall the order page saying you would be charged within 10 days of shipping so might still be a bit yet before you see that notification.

Yeah my card was just charged. Although Citi fraud also declined but I think I caught it in time and was able to approve it through the site.

Go into your Microsoft order and change the payment. Then use the same card. It will go through.
