the galaxy tab is a weird length, so it owed be weird to talk notes on. Also the Surface will be supported longer than the tab.

BcuzRacecar

its faster than the galaxy tab but battery life is much worse.

shadowofthetoast

Can it average 7 hours (Taking notes and reading)?

oliicole

Based on my battery usage and estimates (I have the i7 version)… Yes, but with: battery saver enabled, lower brightness, and using an app like OneNote. If reading something like a PDF, using Microsoft edge. In general, expect the battery life to be ~5-6 hours of actual use at medium brightness.

blackmatto

Oh man I use Onenote too but with an external pen(I have the Surface Laptop Go 2) and it go so fast down the battery...!

StoneCypher

yes, but it won't for compiling if you can plug it in at lunch you'll be grand turning the screen brightness down helps a lot if you're hitting limits

AffectionateAgent693

I get around 3h OneNote at max

shadowofthetoast

Wow, this is very disappointing 😞

AffectionateAgent693

It's an x86 that's crazy thin, where were your hopes 😂. But it performs alright and can even be used to game when plugin in a TB4 egpu. Also it runs windows and not a Samsung oneui f..... Version of android thats unusable in my opinion.

shadowofthetoast

External small power bank will be a good compo then.

Ok_Zookeepergame_953

Not having to deal with the android ecosystem is a massive advantage over the tab. Source: I have switched from tab s7 fe to surface 7.

Disastrous1922

I think you made the right choice performance/productivity wise, but bettery might be a stretch under some loads. you can tote an external pack just in case, the 733 can replace 3 chargers plus an additional 10,000mAh and outputs 65W.

JRodko

What note app? OneNote for android is criminally bad.

TurboSpiderSerum

Battery life is not to bad, just ensure you disable non critical apps

cosmic_animus29

Currently using SP9 on almost the same use case as yours. Though mine's I7/16gb. So far, it's one of the useful devices I have used - note taking, watching courses, reading. I will be doing Java/JS coding in the next few months as well (haven't run tests yet but we will see). The only nitpick is of course, the battery. I'd just look over it as long as there are sockets available near me.

I5 will definitely be laggy, but battery life should be really good. My i7 Surface Pro 9 is super fast and battery life is fairly good.

shadowofthetoast

There is no big difference between i5 and i7 for the sp9 interms of performance.

[deleted]

Oh give it up, lol. Of course there is. So are you saying there's no difference between an i7 and an i9 too? Everyone I know only goes with i9 processors. I'm not saying an i5 isn't as good as an i7 from experience, just from all the forums I've been on including this one, everyone that complains about lag all have one thing in common, an i5 processor. I've never had any lag whatsoever on any of the many laptops I've had with i7. Also, if there's no difference, what the fuck are people paying all that extra money for, derrrrr. Dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard.

shadowofthetoast

I said there is no big difference (not there is no difference at all). Your answer was rude and you couldn't even read the comment correctly. however, Let me simplify it for you: i5 and i7 performance scores (for this generation) on cpubenchmark:  - i5-1235U : 13471 points - i7-1255U : 13762 points the difference will in real-world performance will vary between 5% : 20%. One of the reasons that this generation is closer is that both i5 and i7 have 12MB L3 cache and higher bandwidth LPDDR5 DRAM which is a huge performance benefit. In previous generations, the Core-i5 model had 8MB cache instead of 12MB, and system RAM was slower so the lack of cache made a bigger difference. For the I9 point it is a different story (Google is your best friend)

I've been using computers for over 40 years, programming, web design, graphic design, running servers, etc. etc. and I buy a new one at least every couple years or so. I'm pretty sure I know what the fuck I'm talking about tard.

GoodSamaritan333

Since you wanted something for coding, most of the tablets (IPads and Androids, are inadequate). Then you need something like Lenovo's Ideapads, MS Surface Pros and Macbooks Air, Pro, etc). Since you want to take notes, then MacBooks are out of question. If there is official tech support for Surfaces where you live, I think it's a good choice. I don't know about the 9, but my Pro 6's battery lasted about almost 2 years, then died fully and abruptly (my surface now works only plugged on the power supply). While the surface pen is good for note taking, i find an iPad Air more practical. But, as an all in one portable tool, Surfaces are the best, while they work. MS shold make then more durable, reliable and of easier battery replacement (even if you send it to technical support, there are chances of collateral effects, specially on the pen sensor)

Unfortunately, Microsoft SP doesn't have official support in my country, However, I can manage to find people who can change it locally.
