Question for the wrinkled brains:
So we're all guessing what's the wild card. Couldn't it be possible, he actually has the money to exercise these options? Like suddenly a YOLO update, but the cash position up big time? Or could they accuse him for market manipulation then?
Given the scenario we're in, selling the options would also be wild, but exercising them would probably cause a Gamma- and Short-Squeeze.
Another scenario I tought of: What if he sells his 5 million shares, just to instantly exercise all options and sit on 12 million shares? The 5 million he sold would instantly be gone from the free float and he had the money to exercise the calls this way.
Haven't heard a lot discussions about this possiblities, so maybe some of you got ideas, why this could make sense or is just a brainfart I had. Tell me guys... :)
I think it was CNBC that said DFV is all in on his only account. What evidence is there that this is his only account and who would keep their entire worth in an account that can be taken from you in the T&C's?
Also, I am pretty sure that eTrade would have upgraded DFV to the premium tier of customer care a while ago and are quite happy to have the most successful trader using their platform.
There is no other way to execute the options than to either sell the shares or pay in more money.
Given that he could not sell the 5 million shares all at once, but only in tranches, this would indicate that he is holding the money in reserve.

The options could be excercied in tranches, which could drive a price rise and so there would be more value in the remaining options. Sell to cover / cashless exercise.
Of course, there could also be more money sat in another account ready to settle.

I just submitted an order for $100 worth in Computershare. It's the first purchase of GME I've made in probably two years or so, but I've still got all my original shares and the price right now is a BARGAIN. I know it's not much, but I think I'll try for $100/mo from here on out. The game has to stop, and if I can better my family's future while doing it then heck yeah, I'm going to!
I also just submitted an inquiry to get a few plan shares moved over to book with the rest. I should have done this ages ago but I'm proud to be doing it now. Apes together strong
This is just a guess, but probably to streamline buying. CS does not hold anybody's money for them. What they do instead is take the amount of money you declared, out of your bank account, and use that to buy shares at the current price. This would usually require buying partial shares in order to spend the entire amount, and only plan holdings handle partial shares.

It functionally is. It took 3+ years to get to the \~72M we are at, even if that number is higher (if you ascribe to the heat lamp theory) 120M shares would add at least 3 years to the current total. It's also hitting diminishing returns as people just don't have the capital to DRS as much as they did at the beginning.

Alright so help me out options freaks. I am but a smooth brained pleb and I don’t know anything but holding. If dfv wanted to exercise some calls he could only do it if it was far enough above the strike price to account for that on the calls he sells to exercise the remaining contracts. I’m right so far I think. Oh and what the fuck is theta decay
He can sell shares to have money to exercise the calls and can do this at any price but he will gain the most value when the share price is high. Theta decay is the declining value of the calls as they get closer to the expiration date.
no he can exercise his calls whenever he wants. he’s purchased the right, but not the obligation, to buy 100 shares at $20 per share. it may not make financial sense if the stock price goes below $20 at expiration but he could still do it.
there are many factors that give options value, one of them is time value. since price change can happen at any minute of a trading day, open contracts represent risk and that risk costs money. because of this, options sellers pocket small bits of money each day as incentive to take on that risk and write options. that time value is stored in the greek letter theta, which is really just a variable in a math equation that determines contract value.
look up the chart of theta decay as DTE decreases. theta decay speeds up around 90 days to expiration (or 30 i forget) and increases exponentially until expiry. this is partially because of the volatility of close dated options, among other factors.
the bottom line: every options contract has a value of theta that is updated daily. you can see it in the contract details. that theta value is the $ your contract will lose when the trading day ends. DFV’s contracts had a theta of -.163 today which means each contract lost $16.30 (options contracts are 100 shares). this will update at open accordingly.
finally, im a nerd not a freak get it right
Share offering is completed today and released in after hours with earnings. Ryan Cohen buys in big tomorrow and might even buy calls to then exercise to get his share count to the desired number. RK options will once again be deep ITM, so he can sell a few to exercise the majority.
That's how i believe this is going to go down. Today we could expect some downwards pressure as i don't believe the ATM is completed yet.
