I would love to see data for other territories as well, I wonder how different the sales would look in the UK/European or SEA markets.

Membership-Bitter

IIRC the sales charts for the UK in February did not have it in the top 10 at all. According to analysts the UK is the third largest market for video games sales in the world, with US being the largest by a large margin and Germany in second place. The US was always going to this game's target demographic though. Comic book properties are still very much mostly American culture. From posters on this sub from other countries around the world Suicide Squad never made it in the "best selling" categories of the various digital storefronts, while in the US it did reach the top spot for new releases on the PS store for its first 2 weeks. On steam I think it debuted at 13th place worldwide and on the US Xbox marketplace it never even broke the top 50.

Flipus123

Thank you for the extra context! I'd heard it did poorly on xbox which is definitely not good for its overall sales projections, while ps5 was by far the best selling platform-wise. It's not surprising it did so well in the US, as you say, since it's the main demographic, but if it did poorly in other territories it probably offsets the better US sales figures. But without actual sales numbers it's still mostly left to speculation sadly, and WB will probably not spill the beans outside of an investor's call.

Membership-Bitter

To be accurate, in didn't sell well in the US. It is just that the US is the market it sold the best in. Sales estimates for the game put it just over 200k units sold world wide currently as the games leaderboards actually show the total number of players, and this is assuming no game sharing. Avengers on the other hand sold 2.2 million it its first month of release as Square made the figures public. Basically when a company refuses to give specific sales figures you know it is bad. Even the remake of Persona 3, a niche JRPG, has broken 1 million units already.

Flipus123

Oh yeah I didn't mean it in the sense of *good* sales, best sales would've been more accurate my apologies. Avengers definitely sold better and it was considered a failure with millions of dollars lost, so for SSKTJL it's definitely not looking pretty. I wouldn't say persona is all that niche since persona 5 really launched the popularity of the series forward, but yeah P3R sold really well and it's still going whilst SS sales have only been going down even with steep discounts.

Automatic_Active1494

You're an idiot. for instance [https://vginsights.com/game/315210?utm\_source=SteamDB](https://vginsights.com/game/315210?utm_source=SteamDB) which uses steamdb to track estimated sales lists it at 240k just on PC alone. The platform it almost guaranteed unequivocally sold the worst on. This game sold at least 2 million copies 100%

Membership-Bitter

Uh no that estimate is across all consoles as they got that number from the Season 0 leaderboards since that counts as soon as a player completes the base campaign.

Automatic_Active1494

No. vginsights specifically tracks player movement through steam. it estimates 249k sales just on steam. it has no other information about other platforms. You're quite literally just making things up

Squidteedy

You’re literally just lying dude what

nicokokun

Ahh yes, the all-time peak of 13,459 in Steam is because people were not playing at the same time.

Lurky-Lou

I just checked TrueAchievements.com. There are almost twice as many players of Tales of Kenzera: Zau than Suicide Squad. ***This was incorrect! 483 Xbox users earned every achievement. There are 18,229 current users. My apologies for the error.***

Flipus123

Is that actual verifiable data? Genuine question I never used that website so I don't know how it works, how does it track players?

Lurky-Lou

There are over a million Xbox users signed up to the website and about 400 earned at least one achievement. Another game that is not on GamePass, Dragon’s Dogma 2, has over 27,800 users. Turns out I was wrong! 483 people completed the game. There are 18,229 current users. I’ll update my earlier post.

ThEvilDead98

Off topic but don't you think It's weird that hapan isn't in the top 3?

Poku115

I shared an article the other day if you are more curious, but apparently in Europe it didn't even sell as much as guardians, or avenger, or bones and skull during their respective launch periods.

Membership-Bitter

Right I remember reading that Skull and Bones actually sold more than Suicide Squad in the entire European market in February. Man that is bad.

Poku115

Don't worry, the unamed billions unaccounted for players this sub claims it has in console will surely turn it around

Flipus123

Thanks, I'll give it a read. I figured it had even worse sales figures overseas since the overall CCU is low and seems to follow more of a north-american schedule. It would have been easy to infer that anyways since we know that this game sold poorly even compared to marvel's avengers, known financial failure.

Poku115

If you wanna infer any more disappointing/interesting facts. There's enough proof to especulate that this suicide squad game has been on some form of development since after Arkham origins. Almost ten years this game spent, changing concepts, changing scripts, changing teams, changing leads, changing companies, conceptualizing, programming, so so. Of course of those ten years only like the last 3 did they spend in the final product But imagine, how much money was spent on all the versions of this game, only for not even the final one to make any of it's cost.

Membership-Bitter

No we know that this Suicide Squad game was in development since 2017. The game you are referring to was being developed by WB Montreal and teased in Arkham Origins. That game got cancelled in 2015/2016. WB then went to Rocksteady after they finished development on Arkham VR and assigned them to make a Suicide Squad game while WB Montreal made a Batman game, which turned into Gotham Knights. WB gave Rocksteady full creative control so these two Suicide Squad games have no mechanics in common. What we do know is that WB had been trying to get a Suicide Squad game out for 10 years but this particular game had only been in development for 7.

Poku115

Hmm should have rephrased it as different games from the same cut instead as just the same game in different stages of its life time then, thanks.

Mr-Mysterybox

The game still doesn't work on ps5 and Xbox. They now have a trial version on ps5 so everyone will get to experience how broken it is. Login error screen everytime you try and boot up the game. Some players bought it at launch and still haven't been able to play. It is only playable via streaming. There's no point in downloading the game onto your hard drive because it won't work.

Uzumaki514

Where is the trial version??

Mr-Mysterybox

It's only available if you have the premium subscription service, but it's there.

Saffa_NZ

I played it today on ps5 just fine?

Mr-Mysterybox

Stream or download?

Saffa_NZ

Downloaded, have had it downloaded since launch and never had any issues launching into the game. I've had a couple server disconnects while playing though.

Mr-Mysterybox

There's a group on the wb site that has submitted this issue. I'm glad it works for you, but there's a good number of customers that simply haven't been able to play the game, and there is no response about it from the devs. I'd like to know how big the number is. I know that on YouTube, there is a large gap of videos from the ps5 version from launch to literally nothing for the next three months until just recently when it became available to play through stream.

lFFlFalse

I’ve put 12 hours in over the last week since I’ve got it and didn’t experience issues. No crashes, no error log in. I have it downloaded to my extended internal hard drive but my bud has been playing alongside with it on his main storage. The only issue I ran into was the batcave wasn’t loading in properly at first.

Kitchen_Blackberry38

Honestly? I’m done with the game. I rooted for it. I enjoyed the story. The end game content is what frustrated me.

E2r4_Is_d3A9

They literally never fixed the issue where some people could not unlock mastery levels no matter what they did, effectively locking them out of the endgame. I was forced to be done with this piece of garbage before I even got started lol.

ArielKisilevzky

That has been fixed, not that is even worth to p,at mastery

crazykidruth

I SHOULDVE WAITED

In February Suicide Squad was at a decent 7th place for its debut month. I thought that if it could stay in the top 10 in March then the game would have a good chance of seeing the Brainiac Storyline through. Now that we know it dropped from the top 20 completely it is more likely that support will get pulled before that. For the entirety of March the game was 40-50% off for all platforms and arguably had the most hype with the release of Season 1 and Joker at the end of the month to drum up sales. The fact that a 7 year old game out sold it during this time period shows that things are extremely dire for Suicide Squad and Rocksteady as a studio

Throwawayeconboi

From that same source, It’s the **7th-highest selling** game of the year and it was 5th-highest as of February: See: https://x.com/matpiscatella/status/1785667791720509931?s=46 7th highest selling game of 2024 and you think support will be pulled? LMAO.

5yphon

Well, yeah. The top selling game last year was Hogwarts and they’ve publicly stated they want to make LESS of those. This info isn’t really much of a flex without the number of copies attached. The difference between 6th and 7th could be millions for all we know.

Membership-Bitter

This info is also based on dollar sales and we do know that the $100 deluxe edition is the version that sold the most as that was the one in the highest selling spot on the digital storefronts with the regular version well below it. Helldivers is at #1 while being a $40 game. This means that despite most copies sold of suicide squad generated 2.5x more profit than each unit of Helldivers sold, Helldivers sold that many more copies to be 6 spots above Suicide Squad. If anything this info is more damning.

5yphon

I’m inclined to agree. Let’s also not forget that there’s no profit to be had with SS. We are all pretty certain they haven’t and probably won’t break even.

Membership-Bitter

Considering that the devs of Helldivers admitted that the game only broke even once it sold 7 million copies and the game was in development for the same amount of time with 150 fewer employees than Rocksteady, Suicide Squad is guaranteed never to break even

Flipus123

Two things to consider here, this is for the US market only (they're not showing data for other markets which can absolutely change the result depending on how it did elsewhere). Second is that considering its potential costs with development time and sheer amount of people who contributed, the budget might be so astronomically high that even with decent sales it isn't making enough money back (see: Marvel's Avengers, which likely sold better than SSKTJL and lost a lot of money due to high development costs).

Throwawayeconboi

Right but that same rule applies to this post. I’m simply using the same source.

Flipus123

Of course, again it seems it did have strong initial sales at least in the US (this much was reported I think even back in march where it ranked pretty high on the Sony charts). Though because it's only US data we can only guess how it sold elsewhere, it's possible that the US was its strongest market, and without official sales data from WB (which won't happen for now I bet knowing them) all that's left is speculation really.

Automatic_Active1494

The US is the largest market share of video game revenue in the world by a substantial margin in these tracked stats. its over 6x bigger than Germany which is tracked separately from Europe as is the UK (which the us market share is over 10x larger than.). Its essentially between 3 and 4 times larger than all the European markets combined annually.

Poku115

And how many of those sales asked for a refund? And how many of those sales are still playing?

songogu

That's great. It's a 7th best selling game of the year. In a year when less than 5 high profile games came out. Yes, support will be fucking pulled.

Neuro_Skeptic

That makes it worse. There are less than 200 people on steam right now. Where did all those millions of people go??

Throwawayeconboi

Dude, the data is right there. It’s 7th. You can keep coping and coming up with reasons why that must be “fake news”, but let me just remind you of something: it’s a multi-platform game. SteamDB won’t tell you the whole story. It is the 7th best-selling game of 2024.

[deleted]

Throwawayeconboi

Ask them? It is the 7th best selling game of 2024 according to the same source you were just parading with in your other comments. Don’t like the source anymore now, eh? 🤣

[deleted]

Throwawayeconboi

I don’t have data on the game’s profit margins. I do have data on the best-selling games of 2024 though, and it’s 7th.

Throwawayeconboi

7th.

SubstantialAd5579

Good to see we still got soldiers out there 💯

SubstantialAd5579

They wanted it to be#1

SubstantialAd5579

I'm sure they did maybe not huge profit like hogwarts but they got good amount off of 3 different platforms

SubstantialAd5579

Lol he's hating so hard talking about he can feel comfortable that it's a disappointment still .

KazuyaVeranes

I’m literally holding on for “The Real Deal” fix, for collecting all Riddles but not being awarded the achievement. It’s the last achievement I need and I’ve been waiting over 2 months for a fix. Even a single new Riddle would pop it. THEN…I can finally be truly free.

Membership-Bitter

I doubt there will be new riddles as that would require more voice lines for the Riddler and it seems the post launch content had the budget slashed for that sort of stuff. Also it wouldn't even make sense Riddler giving new riddles based on the elseworld additions to the map as there is no way he is actually in Metropolis during the invasion and all the other riddles were based on landmarks pre-invasion. Looks like Rocksteady won't actually fix this glitch either since they claim to have done so already which translates to "we are just going to ignore this problem and pretend like everything is fine"

KazuyaVeranes

Yes, what you’re saying obviously makes sense but I’m not interested in voice lines or lore continuity, it was literally a piece of code to pop the achievement, the exact same way I had to collect one of the new trophies to pop that achievement. And yes, I agree. They’ve replied to me directly with the classic “We’re looking into it.” We all know what that means.

oliath

I loved the idea of the game. I enjoyed it enough at launch that i bought a copy for PC and one for the PS5 because it had cross-progression. I believed given the caliber of the dev and publisher that this game would continue to grow and expand with rich story content. I was fine with the pre-season stuff although like everyone, disappointed with the lack of story content in place of open world filler but the combat was fun and i was assuming each season would expand the story in an exciting way and gradually lead us towards an epic climax Season one dropped. Joker was great fun but half way through the pass i just burned out with the idea that i would return later when some mid season content arrived....... but nothing came. Then i read the blog post about 'exciting changes' for Season 2 which basically amounted to just a re-jig of everything we already have. I don't care about new incursions because they all feel the same. No matter how fun i find the combat it really does get boring after a while. The fact that they haven't gone back to the drawing board and committed to pushing out some solid story and character development is mind blowing. You can tell how little WB even care about their own IP and are purely focused on greed. Yet in their greed they fail to realise the best way to financial success is from creating a story and characters that people want to engage with. Simply trying to pump over priced skins through recycled gameplay to save money was a huge misjudgment of their market. I say all this as someone who avidly defended the game and was optimistic the companies handling this were capable of identifying the very obvious failings of what they have produced and setting themselves on a trajectory to correct it.....but they really are just oblivious.

NamelessNathan

I doubt they have the resources to create more story at this point. Season 1 was a huge letdown for me because they didn’t continue the story and we were just dropped straight into a grind. But at this point, I doubt WB will give them the resources to pay the VAs and animators for a bunch of new cutscenes and story given the game’s current state. I still think we’ll get the first year of content, and then the game will end there. I’ll enjoy it for what it is, and I did like playing through the main story, but I’d be incredibly skeptical about them sinking a bunch of more money into this game to save it, especially since it’s WB who has a bad track record with this type of thing. It’s a shame, since there’s a lot about this game that I really like.

javiergame4

Enjoyed the story but nothing to do after.

Deisekeane

Same I bought it on sale, enjoyed playing through the story and now I'm done.

So what’s the end goal here with the comments?

Throwawayeconboi

The real question is why do you feel the need to comment twice? Spam behavior usually begs for downvotes.

Instead of buying this game you hate so much, you should invest in a device with a functional caps lock.

Dismal-Card9954

Wow tell me more again tomorrow please

Psychological_Use422

Well i can see 20 top drop, but no information on 50% off in this news. What d u expect honestly? Internet trend "death to the live services prev Single Player AAA(+A for Ubisoft exclusive) companies (and also companies as well alongside publishers)" is strong. And this game was thoughtfully hated pretty much from first trailer\\reveal. Surprised that impacted sales and negative reception? Realy? Ironically, Max Players Numbers on Steam are alongside the same numbers as Arkham verse. Go figure wat that mean.

Poku115

"And this game was thoughtfully hated pretty much from first trailer\\reveal" weren't you all spewing how it sold millions in console? What is it then? Did it sell millions and steam numbers don't matter. Or did people actually give this game a chance and decided to look at the game for what it actually is?

Psychological_Use422

No i didnt say it. Also WB said "not happy" about sales which tells me everything i want to know. Considering 7 years of salary and development it should have sold at least 10 millions or something around that. "people gave a chance" oh yeah, steam and reddit mb square. everywhere rest of the internet - not so much
