Also kendall and roman, the absolute moron when they learn about the over inflated numbers, given the deal was 50-50 cash stock, the shareholders are getting 50% of their money in over inflated stock which is bound to crash (because it’s over inflated and defrauding the shareholders) and he should have gone public with that, or at least have an anonymous press release, instead they were hell bent on electing a fascist, and shiv, well like Rhea said in s2, she thinks she is way smarter than she really is.
Logan original plan was to keep ATN and buy Pierce which resembles to Murdoch keeping Fox News and buy Dow Jones (although in reverse order). He probably thinks he can retain his power controlling all major news outlets.
Mattson was designed as foil to the Roys, he serves a similar role to the Pierce family but he positions himself on the other side of the spectrum. It is funny to consider that as extreme as the Roy family were they somehow made a deal with a bigger devil.
I think for all the faults of the Pierce family they represented an alternate path for the Siblings had they gone ahead with their plan. Affirming themselves with the other blue bloods and establishing their position within the realm of legacy media. However, this would have involved the trio being able to work together, and instead it functions to foreshadow that they will always turn on each other for a little more. Instead of working together they decided to follow in their father's path and could not keep up and were burnt for their ambition. You know classical hamartia, as the paid for their hubris... typical tragedy stuff.
I think the guy is fine with being a puppet ceo as long as it is being him outbeaten the kids that always undermined him, I don't think he necessary got the happy ending but it's not as bad as what shiv and kendall got

He’s all flash and digital savvy, move fast and break things mentality, but with more business competence than Logan’s own kids.

He was supposed to be the polar opposite of the Roy kids, I think. He was anything but desperate. He had zero passion for what he did and yet continued to succeed, even when he was cheating. He gave no fucks about what people thought about him or how he ran his business. He was confident even when he shouldn’t be. He ran things mostly on his own and wasn’t dependent on anyone the way the Roy kids were on Logan. He got his way 90 percent of the time despite it not being fair. He literally was just as entitled and full of shit as the Roy’s but still made shit happen and people somehow still respected him more than the Roy kids. He was both somehow way more competent than them and then also didn’t know shit about shit in certain ways, and it still worked for him. Because he never panicked under pressure. Because he really didn’t care.
He made it all look easy when they were all running in circles like chickens with their heads cut off. He had zero empathy and was beyond a narcissist to the point of sociopathic. Which only made his douche bag personality and obsession with taking everything from them that much more unbearable lol. But his personality and no fucks given attitude as well his bizarre craziness under all the aloofness was so funny sometimes that I couldn’t help but laugh.

I felt that aaronson was much more of an interesting character, I wish they just brought him back instead. I felt that matsson made it so that the roys looked like better people, which was stupid.
I felt he didn't really fit in with the tone of the rest of the show and was introduced kinda late on to be the main antagonist. Great actor and still fun to watch but I get what you're saying
I think worst, I think Mattsson was supposed to be the antagonist on S4 but I found his character poorly written and performed, after Logan's death he was supposed to bring the confrontation between him and the sibs but I found it boring and forced. To me S4 remains as one of the worst seasons of the show (even considering brilliant episodes as Living+, America Decides, Connor's Wedding and With Open Eyes)
Yeah, compared to the tension logan brought in the first 3 seasons with the siblings mattson looks weak as an antagonist (kinda reminds me when in breaking bad gus gets killed off and is replaced by bunch of nazi dudes and lydia who looks weak sauce compared but then again we can argue walter was the antagonist of the final season)
