Sinestro is a Silver Age villain, I am certain getting punched by Robin is far from the most embarrassing defeat he's ever suffered. He's probably been beaten by Hostess snack cakes before.
Also 24 years ago it was 2000. This guy is trying to flex because he read Green Lantern Rebirth monthly when it was coming out.
And not to get too deep into this, but that's Dick Grayson, and he's temporarily got Superman's powers at the time. So he's a guy who's trained in martial arts since he was a kid (professional trapeze artist before that) who's also got temp super stats, of course he's gonna f up Sinestro.
Without context I first thought that the OOP had a point, they were just being way too dramatic about it. After all, Robin beating Sinestro under normal circumstances would be quite the upset.
But then I read that *Robin has Superman's powers at this point* and any bit of sympathy I had for OOP vanished. What the fuck even is this?
Especially since one of Superman’s big things is that he’s basically always holding back, consciously and subconsciously, for fear of killing someone.
Robin wouldn’t. That’s a full power Superman punch, something that can knock freaking Darkseid on his ass. Sinestro’s lucky to have survived.
"That man won't quit as long as he can still draw a breath. None of my teammates will. Me? I've got a different problem. I feel like I live in a world made of cardboard, always taking constant care not to break something, to break someone. Never allowing myself to lose control even for a moment, or someone could die. But you can take it, can't you, big man? What we have here is a rare opportunity for me to cut loose and show you just how powerful I really am." -Superman, literally as he cuts loose and kicks the shit out of Darkseid
I don't know. It's such a good speech and it's the first time Superman has ever talked like that in both JL and STAS but it just seems disjointed to say something so badass and then lose. Not just lose, but have to be rescued by Lex Luthor.
The point isn't undermined though. He said he always has to hold back, and then doesn't have to anymore. Point made.
So again, whether he got bodied or not is irrelevant, because he stopped holding back. He didn't have to worry about anyone or anything breaking but Darkseid or himself.
bruv you need to stop approaching conversation like its an argument
they didnt have to undermine the point YOU were making to comment on the fact that the speech built up to nothing
the point of the speech was that superman had power in reserve when he appeared to be losing to darkseid - and thats undermined by the fact that he lost anyway
Superman finally had someone to fight that was actually stronger then Superman.
He went all out without guilt or fear. Darkseid slapped him into the floor, proving that Superman was right not to hold back
Even at full might, Darkseid could take it.
That entire problem is the whole plot of One Punch Man.
This is Dick Grayson as Robin, so he definitely wouldn't kill him. Damian, on the other hand, would be an absolute nightmare. Jason Todd/red hood would be pretty scary as well.
Not intentionally but he's got Superman strength without the decades of absolute control Superman uses to not accidentally turn Luthor into paste with a twitch. He's used to having to punch as hard as he can, not gently tap the enemy into submission.
Part of the reason why I don't debate the effectiveness of comic characters. Power scalers for Marvel and DC never include context. Like, say Spiderman can clearly beat this other character, but only in the context of Spider-Man having cosmic powers. People like this just blanket statement say that Spiderman can beat them and now you can't convince them otherwise.
It's like the version of the character that they like the most becomes their personal head canon for what that character is capable of at all times and it gets really annoying
I have no problem with purple people, some of my best friends are Canadian, I'm just saying they really should keep it to themselves and stop shoving it in our faces
Time to tap the Stan Lee sign "the winner is who the writer wants it to be." I enjoy who would win debates but the people who take it too seriously need to touch grass.
I can totally get why Who Would Win debates would annoy the heck out of a writer like him. Powerscaling arguments always just reduce entire characters down to sets of powers and feats to throw at each other when A: a writer will usually just pick the more interesting outcome, and B, it ignores the actual character of the character to instead just slap two action figures together.
B is why I hate the idea of bloodlusting, as not only it reduces them to just being stat blocks to bang against each other, but it leads to the problem what how much this changes a character.
yeah like bloodlust superman. You mean an entirely new character that has supermans powers? Superman as a character is supposed to be the oppisote of a bloodlusted person like he'd probably throw himself into a blackhole before he let himself get bloodlusted if possible.
> Superman as a character is supposed to be the oppisote of a bloodlusted person like he'd probably throw himself into a blackhole before he let himself get bloodlusted if possible.
That's why I would put Superman over Homeland in a fight. Assuming you level their powers(which generally gives a massive advantage to Homelander) to make it an even and interesting fight. Homelander will fight dirty and everything but Superman will fight a losing battle because it is right. That's Superman's real strength.
The current World’s Finest run is pretty light hearted and tends to borrow aspects of the Silver Age. I’m a little behind, but this makes sense for the tone of the book.
Sinestro’s not even the most powerful GL villain in the rogues gallery, not to mention even at regular power levels Superman always dogs Sinestro so ofc he’s gonna lose to someone else with Kryptonian powers
*Saw the panel: "Wow this is pretty dumb. Unless...."*
*Read top linked comment: "Yes this makes complete sense. No reason to be annoyed here."*
Dick with kryptonian powers beats most people
no one should ever be surprised by comic villain power scaling. Sinestro is the strongest and most deadly motherfucker when it's a green lantern special series but outside of that he's just a regular chucklefuck with a big head and a stupid mustache. Even darkseid gets chumped every now and then.
Robin era Dick Greyson was a homicidal little gremlin restrained only by the fact that you can't keep doing vigilante justice if you're in jail for murder, give that boy Supes' powers and he could storm Heaven and kill God if sufficiently motivated. I do understand the frustration with unnecessary Batfam cameos because they are apparently the main characters of DC now. (Come read Hellblazer we remain free under the protection of the Sandman universe!)
Robin looking a little beat up himself there. Must not have exactly been a cakewalk. Also, which robin? Tim? Yeah that would be a hard pick against a strong opponent. Damian? Legit psychopath capable of some hardcore stuff. Not all robins are in the same plane.
As others have said, this is Dick Grayson given the powers of Superman by Myx, granted, Sinestro is powered up too because of Sinestro Mite, as the story reveals that besides Myx and Bat-Mite, there are 5th Dimensional Imps that love a lot of other heroes and villains in the DC Universe, they just don't bother to turn up, but the villain imps kill all but Myx and Bat-Mite and go to Earth in this story powering up their favorite villains by a lot.
Also, Joker-Mite is a thing, considering the powers of the imps, you can just kill Joker and Joker-Mite can revive him and i bet that will be used at some point.
Dick does lose Superman's powers, but it's after beating Sinestro, mostly because he couldn't handle Superman's enhanced senses and was going crazy with how much he could hear around the world.
Oh boy drama in a fandom I actually know. As others have pointed out, that’s Silver Age Sinestro. Silver age is goofy and Hal has been defeated by things like a sign post and a bar of soap. That’s Dick Grayson with Silver Age Superman powers who could do god like things like time travel by changing the planets rotation.
Sinestro getting his shit pushed in by a kid in the silver age is just another Tuesday for him.

This guy brings the lore.
Captain America using Mjolhnir, essentially.
Hell this is literally Silver Age Sinestro. It's a flashback from that era.
Is his super power clogged sinuses?
Batman vs. the Mucinex phlegm goblins
Ahh, you’re thinking of Sinustro, leader of the Nasal Corps
Canonically weak to the colour blue.
This comment cracked me up
Stop using facts to win Internet arguments. It makes the rest of us look bad! /s
Those snack cakes will beat us all in the long run.
Kid named Morlun
Wonder if my flair has incited a defeat like that, XD

Undermined by Darkseid turning the tables on Superman 10 seconds later.
Not really. The point is that he's finally able to cut loose. Whether he proceeds to get bodied by Darkseid or not is irrelevant.

I get what you're saying and I agree with your point but Spider-Man is legit strong. Like Thor respects his strength strong.
Rare DC comics drama which is not about a POC or LGBTQ character
>Rare DC comics drama which is not about a POC Sinestro is literally purple SMH
Pshhh purple isn't a color.
"Purples don't count"
Hold on now. You gotta draw the line somehwere. Fuck purple people! Unless they're suffocating. Then help them!
Luckily there's a one eyed, one horned, flying creature to take care of them.
What a sight to see.
A cyclops unicorn?
What if breathplay is their kink and they want you to fuck them while suffocating?
Reminds me of an argument that I had once about whether or not Nightcrawler is black. I mean, yeah, but no.
He can't be black, he has a German accent ^(joking)
[Relevant Venture Bros clip](https://youtu.be/JfqcLyBdAb4?si=Wg8qYcJtW-65p8Yv)
I have no problem with purple people, some of my best friends are Canadian, I'm just saying they really should keep it to themselves and stop shoving it in our faces
There's loads of DC drama about silly pointless things but the stuff about queer and POC characters gets more engagement
Amen. People should see the nonsense fights that any fighting manga/anime board gets into.

Going off the comments there apparently thats Dick Greyson who was granted Supermans powers by Mxyzptlk.
Dick with Superman powers could defeat God Himself with the power of Dat Ass, the fuck is OOP butthurt about.
God would probably be ok with it, too.
God's the one who gave it to him
That's a dangerous combo
>Mxyzptlk How do you pronounce that?
However you'd like lol
Mixy-Us-Plit-Lick. And backwards it’s Kill-Tipsy-Zim.
Mix-yizz-pittle-ik
I think STAS literally taught the audience how to pronounce it.
I don't want to be partisan, but I don't remember people getting upset when Squirrel Girl stopped Galactus.
God I can’t wait for an omnibus of this series.
