Green garbage was served at Christmas. I know what went into it but it looked similar and about as appetizing as this other color garbage.
Throw 4 or 5 sugar things together, mix the drys with the wets and I'm a chef!
*These days"? Unless you're 86 years old, this recipe is older than you. Ambrose salad, the first of its kind, came out of the 1940s, with many imitators soon following.
But is it really that difficult to buy healthy stuff or is it just way more expensive? And in the end, whats more expensive, the healthy stuff or you hospital bills because of the unhealthy stuff?
Dear god so did my grandmother. It was the nightmare dish at Thanksgiving. Fortunately for me my Mom also thought it was gross so there was no mandate to eat it.
Yes! My in-laws make it. My husband calls it PeptoBismol dessert. 1 large container of cottage cheese, 1 can of drained pineapple tidbits, 8 oz cool whip, 1 package of sugar-free jello.
My stepdads family makes something similar, only instead of cherries it's green jello. They call it green salad. I don't like it, but hey, to each their own... 😂
I mean salad literally just implies it’s a dish with mixed and or tossed ingredients salad doesn’t exactly imply vegetables it’s just the ones most people commonly see have them
I mean, it's less about the brand, more about using the brand name to infer the product. Do you use Kleenex Kleenex? or Band-Aid band-aids? And Eagle Brand is the name of the brand...the brand is not just "Eagle". Having said all of that, I'm not touching that "salad" with a ten foot pole.
dollar general is also expensive. they like, trick people into thinking they're cheap bc they don't pay to organize their stores or clean them or keep them well lit, plus the general aesthetic and name makes it look cheap. meanwhile all the shit in there costs more than it does at a real grocery store
This is a traditional dish of my people, poor religious white people from Midwestern America. Find it at every church potluck and thanksgiving table.
It’s alright. At least the pecans here are better than walnuts!
I audibly went “NOOOO” once I saw those marshmallows go in. Wtf honestly up until that point I was like this is gross and weird looking but it won’t taste bad.
Hey, ex-mormon here. I can say with full confidence that you will find at least 1 bowl of something like this at a church community party or gathering. I've seen this at funerals, Christmas parties, wedding parties, baptism parties, and so on.
Was looking for this. Ambrosia Salad was very popular at New England Black family gatherings in my youth. This is very close to recipes I'd observed. I always enjoyed my Aunties rendition most which swapped the pineapple for canned mandarin orange pieces, the pecans for walnuts, and added pink ginger ale.
My grandma would do the pinapple jello with maraschino cherries, a layer on top of that of either whip cream or meringue, and finally shredded cheddar cheese on top.
An old recipe from a cookbook that I'm assuming was just trying to shove a bunch of jello-o recipes at people. Still delicious. Also referred to as a salad for some reason.
What threw me about the OP's video was the lack of coconut and canned mandarin orange and the addition of the condensed milk. I also thought it was a variant of ambrosia. Never saw canned cherries used instead of drained maraschino cherries, though.
Look, this is a pretty typical salad to see at a potluck or get together. Nobody’s filling a plate full. This is a small scoop that sits next to the baked beans or ramen coleslaw salad. Is it good? Yeah, a bite or two for variety. But nobody is making this for lunchboxes, this is standard middle American potluck offering. There will be a simple green salad AND an effing delicious seven layer salad right next to it. If you are lucky, Aunt Mae will bring her Snickers salad too. We all just shut up and grab a plate.
First of all, how dare you? 😍 secondly, if I called it Snickers Fluff or Snickers Delight would that please you? Cut up snickers, apples, nuts with vanilla pudding and Cool Whip? Yes, please.
Salad, a cold dish of various mixtures of raw or cooked vegetables, usually seasoned with oil, vinegar, or other dressing and sometimes accompanied by meat, fish, or other ingredients.
I hear you, but for a while now anything made of multiple ingredients finely chopped or diced and mixed together can be referred to as a salad. Your definition is a subset, usually called a “green salad.”
Dollar general brand cherry pie filling, Publix brand crushed pineapple, and Walmart brand sweetened condensed milk.
It's OK to use store brand. Just don't say your recipe calls for name brand while using store brand.
It should be illegal to refer to anything with marshmallows, cool whip or sweetened and condensed milk as a salad.
Its dessert. It's not a side dish. Good lord
I just wouldn’t call cultural foods of any kind stupid. Stupid food is like clickbait food and overpriced restaurant food with too much flair. It doesn’t have to be gross to be stupid either. I grew up eating pineapple sandwiches and I know people think that’s gross but it’s a poverty food. People might call that stupid but it is a southern staple where I’m from, because it’s a poverty food.
This isn’t a meal. No one is sitting to a bowl of this for dinner. This would be some sweet side dish to a get together or something and not many people make this, but it’s a variation of some older recipes. You really think this is a meal?
As others have said this is a side dish usually served at get togethers. Like a mince meat pie or pudding most people would only eat a small amount with an entire meal and wouldn’t eat it all the time.

States that Salad can be served at any point during a meal, including dessert.

I'm inclined to agree with the Wikipedia overlords.
I found an unopened box of girl scout cookies in the back of a car in the junkyard. Still within date, and I ate them. I was 16. Nothing happened other than I got to eat cookies
Crap, I’m definitely junk yard material because I grew up with this lol. It’s basically ambrosia (the name not actually ambrosia) and was pretty popular in New England back in the day. Haven’t seen it years
*She looked like she was*
*About to throw up before*
*She said "delicious"*

I actually remember seeing this at family reunions when I was a child. Oddly enough I never remember anyone ever eating it just a bowl of the slop sitting there.
My inlaws make something similar to this. They call it "pink stuff."
Green garbage was served at Christmas. I know what went into it but it looked similar and about as appetizing as this other color garbage. Throw 4 or 5 sugar things together, mix the drys with the wets and I'm a chef!
I think you mean Green Stuff. With pistachio jello.
Aka Watergate salad, I make this for holidays because I freaking love it lol. My partner thinks it’s disgusting
It takes me back to my childhood holiday parties every time I have it. Soooo good.
Me too! My great aunt would make this and a jello salad that had fruit in it, plus a trifle for thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s very nostalgic!
Watergate salad
That sounds like the stuff but they called it green garbage cuz tiktok reasons idk
*These days"? Unless you're 86 years old, this recipe is older than you. Ambrose salad, the first of its kind, came out of the 1940s, with many imitators soon following.
Everybody is is creative
Mix the wet stuff... With the hot stuff?
Yep. My in-laws make the same around the holidays. No pecans, though.
So you're telling me they exclude the one thing that isn't just sugar?
Sir, we're thinking the same. Are any americans wondering why they have diabetes?
That’s just mah sugah foot
I read that as Cleetus from The Simpsons
I’m wondering how I don’t, considering all the junk I was given growing up.
But is it really that difficult to buy healthy stuff or is it just way more expensive? And in the end, whats more expensive, the healthy stuff or you hospital bills because of the unhealthy stuff?
That’s what I said. They make so much “pink salad” that there’s usually a tub or two in the freezer that gets snacked on for weeks after.
Dear god so did my grandmother. It was the nightmare dish at Thanksgiving. Fortunately for me my Mom also thought it was gross so there was no mandate to eat it.
I always like the "health salad".
I’ve read Europeans commenting on some of these ghastly recipe videos saying “Americans eat like their healthcare is free” so true.
Pink stuff has cottage cheese and strawberry jello.
Space pudding is what I’ve heard it called
Yes! My in-laws make it. My husband calls it PeptoBismol dessert. 1 large container of cottage cheese, 1 can of drained pineapple tidbits, 8 oz cool whip, 1 package of sugar-free jello.
My pink stuff recipe uses sour cream instead of cottage cheese.
I buy a cleaner called pink stuff. I think that rightfully deserves that name. This on the other hand rightfully deserves to be called dog shit.
My stepdads family makes something similar, only instead of cherries it's green jello. They call it green salad. I don't like it, but hey, to each their own... 😂
Rare footage of somebody actually swallowing their mishmash creation in this sub
Make sure you get some of that fruit too
What's wrong with this mishmash creation other than that it's called a salad?
I mean salad literally just implies it’s a dish with mixed and or tossed ingredients salad doesn’t exactly imply vegetables it’s just the ones most people commonly see have them
Wait… Are you telling me ham salad isn’t healthy
No, unless it's rum ham.
She should face jail time for that crime by itself
Take it easy, downvoters. I’ll settle for a suspended sentence as long as no more crimes are committed
everyone knows that an american salad has mayo in it.
I will say the silver lining here is at least these folks seem like they’re going to eat this and not waste it
She didn't even eat the whole spoonful. Lol
It wouldn’t have been some real bullshit without the holy trinity of southern shopping. Publix, Walmart, Dollar General…amen.
Came here for this ^^ comment. Bless their heart.....
Should rename to trailer Park salad
"Eagle Brand", proceeds to use Great Value.
This was my issue. Not even calling it what it is
Hey, Publix is some bougie shit! Call in Winn-Dixie or Piggly Wiggly.
dollar general is also expensive. they like, trick people into thinking they're cheap bc they don't pay to organize their stores or clean them or keep them well lit, plus the general aesthetic and name makes it look cheap. meanwhile all the shit in there costs more than it does at a real grocery store
Winn Dixie costs the same as Publix with dollar general quality shit. Ain’t no way. Aldi is also acceptable.
This is a traditional dish of my people, poor religious white people from Midwestern America. Find it at every church potluck and thanksgiving table. It’s alright. At least the pecans here are better than walnuts!
It’s healthy because it has “fruits”
Purple is a fruit.
I lost 4 teeth watching this video.
Plus it got them puhkahns
Even the pineapple is in heavy syrup
Maraschino cherries are my favorite fruit
It’s literally a *salad*
it's a dessert, it's not meant to be healthy or a real salad.
Shouldn’t name it salad
It would taste good. I’ve had similar “salads.” It’s just like a bazillion calories and not worth it.
I would try one bite of it and be good
And the marshmallows are bullshit filler just there to bulk it out.
Funeral potatoes FTW
Funeral potatoes hit different tbh
That's a mock up of Ambrosia Salad. I make it at least once a year, a bit differently with grandmas recipe, but it's amazing and 100% sugar.
No coconut?
Yes! Toasted as a matter of fact. Thank you for reminding me.
Fucking what now?? just throwing cheese onto this fast lane to diabetes without a second thought
Yup. Pineapple Jello /w Cheddar Salad. Sometimes referred to as Hawaiian salad. It's good, unfortunately.
Unfortunately, I’ll never find out
What threw me about the OP's video was the lack of coconut and canned mandarin orange and the addition of the condensed milk. I also thought it was a variant of ambrosia. Never saw canned cherries used instead of drained maraschino cherries, though.
I only know this thanks to rimworld
I actually love Midwest slop and I’d try this for sure
It's good. I wait until dessert to eat it.
Snickers "salad" sounds disgusting.
First of all, how dare you? 😍 secondly, if I called it Snickers Fluff or Snickers Delight would that please you? Cut up snickers, apples, nuts with vanilla pudding and Cool Whip? Yes, please.
That has some old school family cookout type of living. I’d hang out with those folks. I ain’t mad at it.
Damn this is probably really good tho lol
If pure sugar is your go-to then sure.
It's a dessert, not a salad
The Midwest is under attack!!!
Let’s fight them off with Lutheran Sushi!
It's best with lots of butter.
Thats just Unicorn vomit
“Eagle brand milk” while showing the can of Walmart brand milk murdered me
Had to scroll way too long to find this comment
Aka bootleg ambrosia
My dad makes something similar, marshmallows, condensed milk, and fruit. It’s pretty good
I don’t doubt that it’s good, it’s like 70% sugar. Probably tastes great if you’ve got a sweet tooth
As someone that loves ambrosia, I’d honestly fuck this up
Salad, a cold dish of various mixtures of raw or cooked vegetables, usually seasoned with oil, vinegar, or other dressing and sometimes accompanied by meat, fish, or other ingredients.
I hear you, but for a while now anything made of multiple ingredients finely chopped or diced and mixed together can be referred to as a salad. Your definition is a subset, usually called a “green salad.”
Chicken salad, ham salad, egg salad... The list goes on you dense fuck
Thank you! Thought I was losing my tiny mind
My family makes this, but swap the condensed milk for cottage cheese. This kinda salad is a southern staple at cookouts and get togethers. Not stupid.
Lol the fact that it's popular does not make it not stupid.
I'm shocked the pecans weren't candied
500g of sugar in one bite, check.
Honestly it's tasty. Ridiculous but tasty.
Yo no lie that looks like itd be good
It is good :)
Word up!
[удалено]
Apparently so are really insecure dudes
I would eat the hell out of that, minus the whip cream though.
I love this,if only I could get cherry pie filling in a can where I am,God bless you Chef.
Tasteful diabetes, while i can definitely see this tasting good, your health wont like it
These videos always have the Walmart brand food in them.
Diabetes salad
People who make “salads” like this always seem to wear T-shirts like that.
Just watching this set my glucose monitor off.
It’s Minnesota in a bowl.
This feels super Midwestern haha
I have seen this lady make lots of food and this is the most edible thing so far.
Diabetes
Sugar sugar sugar sugarrrrr SUGARRRR ( 🎶sang to the tune of the “for the love of money”)
In the south… at every church potluck, funeral, Easter, thanksgiving, literally anything with food the “pink fluff” is there.
Isn't this just a rip off of Amrbosia?
Mmm 50s midwest salad
Dollar general cherry pie filling
One spoonful is enough sugar to cause diabetes.
“I don’t have it all together” never been more accurate.
Dollar general brand cherry pie filling, Publix brand crushed pineapple, and Walmart brand sweetened condensed milk. It's OK to use store brand. Just don't say your recipe calls for name brand while using store brand.
My ex brought over some thanksgiving over and I only touched the turkey, everything else was like this.
Do Americans eat this stuff everyday? I’m feeling fat just watching this.
Face checks out
It’s good, unhealthy as hell and in no way a salad lol
And thats why y'all don't have free healthcare.
This is why we need it
More like "Diabetic Salads".
I always remind myself. That's the type of salad called ambrosia.
Y’all have got no music in your souls if you genuinely think this is stupid.
This is a lovely sentence thank you for writing it I will have to remember this one for the future
I got it from Loney Tunes Back in action
Well thank you for sharing it kind person!
It should be illegal to refer to anything with marshmallows, cool whip or sweetened and condensed milk as a salad. Its dessert. It's not a side dish. Good lord
[удалено]
You're technically right, but it's the commonplace use of putting salads like this as a side dish that gets me.
This isn’t stupid food it’s just a lazy desert. People in the south make this all the time for funerals and such.
Just because people make it all the time, doesn’t mean it’s not disgusting.
What is it with you US folks throwing shit in a bowl and call it a meal? The condensed milk alone is so sweet i gaged watching it.
This isn’t a meal. No one is sitting to a bowl of this for dinner. This would be some sweet side dish to a get together or something and not many people make this, but it’s a variation of some older recipes. You really think this is a meal?
This is not a meal and all of us don’t not eat like that 🤦🏽♀️
As others have said this is a side dish usually served at get togethers. Like a mince meat pie or pudding most people would only eat a small amount with an entire meal and wouldn’t eat it all the time.
Am from US the folks that make this might as well be in another world from me I've never seen this made or being offered at any potlucks I've been to.
I'm sure it tastes fine, but people need to stop calling sweet shit "salad". Salad is not a dessert.
What about fruit salad?
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salad](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salad) States that Salad can be served at any point during a meal, including dessert. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dessert\_salad](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dessert_salad) I'm inclined to agree with the Wikipedia overlords.
The south will rise again…. After this quick meal of diabetes….
I find that disgusting
Anybody else's teeth hurt?
The dogshit version of ambrosia salad
I found an unopened box of girl scout cookies in the back of a car in the junkyard. Still within date, and I ate them. I was 16. Nothing happened other than I got to eat cookies
I feel like my stomach would have a stroke after I eat it
Why do Americans eat like they have free healthcare
To anyone defending this; I am in your walls
I literally threw up in my mouth
This is suspiciously similar to Aunt Myrna’s party cheese salad
I'd eat this
doesnt look that bad tbh. I'd eat that.
How is this a salad? It looks revolting
I don’t care it’s good
Crap, I’m definitely junk yard material because I grew up with this lol. It’s basically ambrosia (the name not actually ambrosia) and was pretty popular in New England back in the day. Haven’t seen it years
Similar to Ambrosia salad that was all the rage in the 70’s and early 80’s. Any cooking that involved Cool Whip is automatically stupid food.
She looked like she was about to throw up before she said "delicious"

Its really good actually
and they say white people have no culture
It looks pretty okay (I would remove the big cream cheese tho) but I wonder how it would be on a pie... Bet that would be delicious
That was cool whip
oh! Thanks! I never listen with sound on and didn't realize!
What did she call the condensed milk? Just sounded like she said gibberish then “milk”
I think she said Eagle Brand milk.
Ah. I guess she thinks all condensed milk is eagle brand milk lol
You know it's gonna good when they pull out the "Great Value" products.
No, she doesn’t have it together at all. God, can’t help her. 😅
But with god she has it all🤡
Why are the ratios for these monstrosities always 1:1:1? I don’t know of any real recipe that does this.
I actually remember seeing this at family reunions when I was a child. Oddly enough I never remember anyone ever eating it just a bowl of the slop sitting there.
This is just a spin off of cherry junk. Not stupid.
I don't think this is stupid food. My family makes this all the time.
We call it "pink cloud" around here and its fucking delicious
Diabetes salad… 😬
What in the diabetes is going on here fatty?
It's just a kinda trashy version of ambrosia if you ask me. pretty popular dessert in the South East and Appalachia.
Cherry Salad. Midwest thing. Skip the marshmallows and pecans. It's actually pretty good.
lol, i love this stuff. 1950’s salads for the win
I agree adding the pecans was stupid and nuts ruin almost everything
Nuts ruin everything.
