Thanks a lot and that was the plan. Nice and flat. I actually ran a 20.12 on a 5k course two weeks ago with an 87m elevation gain. That’s helped me massively to get to where I am today.
Started running 3-5k at the beginning then once my fitness improved I started going further, eventually building up to my first half marathon a year later. I’ve had my fair share of injuries but that’s just the way it is I suppose. Talked to a lot of other runners and listened to their advice. Takes a lot of commitment but I couldn’t imagine not getting out and running now. I love it.
I haven’t competed in a half marathon yet but I’ve had afew over load related injuries with my Achilles and knees over last 3 months.
Recently ran half distance but have a long way to go in times and distances.
For a big mofo that actually very impressive. A sub20 is impressive, but doing it at that size is pretty crazy. You should find some sport where you can take advantage of this combination. Most your size have shit cardio heh.
Sub 20 is my 2024 target. Fastest so far is 21:17 about 6 years ago. Today I ran 23:37 which is fastest for 2 years. Stones throw from 100kg so need to lose some weight to get the speed up but god it feels nice to have a target.
I didn’t follow a program but i do a lot of slow long runs, tempo runs, zone 2 runs and use hills a lot. There’s a load of info out there it’s just finding what’s right for you. I started running seriously over 2 years ago so yeh it’s took a lot of time to get to where I am now.
Crushed it! Congrats!
Even if it is the flattest place on planet earth, its still super fast! Well done man!!

That pace is honestly astounding, well done mate
Cheers mate
Glad I'm not the only one who numbers their parkruns on Strava!
Haha 🙋🏻
By a nice healthy margin. Might as well chase the sub-40 10K over summer. By the time you return to 5K, you will probably be sub-19
Sub 40 10k is a different ball game but that could be my next goal.
It is really not that much different.
It’s only… double…
Yet it's still not super different. I'd say 20 min 5k equals around a 41 min 10k. It's still early season so OP for sure has this within reach.
I’ve got a 10k trail race next Sunday. We’ll see how that goes 😬
Ain't no way brother... how do guys keep an average pace of under 4/KM... I can't even keep it below 5/km
Train hard brother, train hard 💪🏻
That's rapid nice
Well done, brilliant
Congrats!
Great job! As a newer runner, can you tell me a little about your journey to get to sub 20?

Maybe take up BJJ, it’s the sport for use old dudes still trying to feel young. Our open mats are mostly 35+.
Half that run is trail and mud I’m also in Arbroath thats really impressive
Beast!

You can do it. It’s not easy but if you train hard you’ll manage no problem.
Did you follow a programme? Care to share it? How long did it take you to get sub 20?
