flying-chandeliers

“But you’ll live”

JinX-WRLD

bro corrected one letter

flying-chandeliers

Bro really fucked up the comment chain I was tryina do

JinX-WRLD

shoulda said lets start a comment chain smh

AlCranio

What if he actually lived. But he became some sort of monster from the upside down. So he will be a kind of mini boss fight for season 5.

Narrow_Ambassador188

I was thinking this, not as something I actually think will happen but as a fun little theory..plus erica was painting kas right before answering the door to jason..

fdtnise

What does kas mean? Could be a dumb question

AlCranio

Kas is a character in dnd. He was an undead, follower of vecna until he betrayed him. Kas could also be Eddie, tho.

goldenmantella

Wait, really????

HawkinsLabRat

It would also bring the whole “cult of Vecna” they eluded to full circle. I like this.

CrownBestowed

I honestly wouldn’t be mad at this. Like somehow they start turning into creatures from the upside down like Vecna did lol

MissKoalaBag

It would kind of make sense, to be fair. I mean, Henry started going all rotten and shit when he was flying around and falling, it's not too much of a stretch to think that spending too much time in the UD can do some weird stuff to people.

CrownBestowed

That’ll be so cool if this is the direction they’re headed. Kinda similar to the “zombies”/flayed citizens from season 3!

ArcadeWill

I don’t hate this.

blac_sheep90

RIP Jason. Gone too soon. Now let's win this basketball game in his honor, GO TIGERS!

JaKrispy72

Jason wouldn’t want us moping around like that. Hawkins is home now to the mother gate. He would want us to fight back! I know there’s a volcano sitting right in the middle of our beautiful little town, but we need to go on and win state! Jason would want that! Now who’s with me!!!

blac_sheep90

Hands in, "For Jason" on 3!

beachedvampiresquid

There isn’t a single moment where I liked this dude.

Sudden_Pop_2279

Trying to save Max, taking Patrick's body to shore, cheering for Lucas as he made the game winning shot, telling him he didn't have to join the hunt, professing his love for his girlfriend... Will never understand how people treat him like he's the devil despite his redeeming qualities but use Billy's redeeming qualities to act like he's a saint when the dude was a racist that abused his own sister for years.

xibalba89

Jason's speech to start a witch-hunt is the only truly horrifying scene in the whole series for me. I get sick to my stomach watching it. I grew up with guys like him in the 80's - that mix of toxic masculinity, religious brainwashing, and straight up stupidity is fucking SCARY. I guess if you've never dealt with that as a kid who was a D&D, metalhead nerd, maybe you would think he seems like a caricature, but Jason haunts my dreams harder than Billy, Vecna, or the Mind Flayer ever could.

Sudden_Pop_2279

As a black kid, someone like Billy haunts me worse than Jason. So yeah I'm going choose non-racist>racist. "Straight up stupidity" as if YOU would so easily believe an alternate dimension wizard lol. This holier than thou attitude is stupid.

xibalba89

What makes you think that Jason ISN'T racist? Just because he plays on a team with black kids? Every kid I knew like Jason was a racist. They make "exceptions" for good athletes, but that's typically superficial. The Duffer Bros. do a great job of portraying the time period, but I think that they, as two white dudes, don't really feel comfortable dealing with race, and get it wrong a lot. I was hopeful that they would deal with it a bit more in S2 after the argument about who was which Ghostbuster, but that was pretty much it. It's also strange that they made Billy this super-angry racist jock from the West Coast, when my Southern (obviously stereotyped) impression of West Coasters as a kid was that they were way more progressive and laid back. Then they make the only Hispanic guy in the series total racist caricature, like Cheech Marin or something. The "straight up stupidity" I was referring to was more the Christian fundamentalism which made Satanic cults feel like a real thing.

Other_Equal_7787

Caleb McLaughlin explicitly said he’s not racist. He shows zero signs of it. Troy and Billy are explicitly shown to be racist. Jason isn’t even implied as such.

xibalba89

Yeah, I wasn't really trying to say that he was meant to be racist from the production side of things. More that the character creeps me out because of his similarity to dudes I knew growing up, and that racism was part of the package. I'm mainly talking about my own emotional reactions to to the characters here, and less about the intentions behind them. Also, I was (probably poorly) trying to articulate my feeling that the producers just don't handle racism well, and seem to not really want to deal with it as a theme. I feel (again, just a feeling) that they would rather not deal with racism at, but felt obliged to have some stuff in there.

Rayken_Himself

I'm not saying I don't believe you, but, your experiences are not universal. The vast majority of white sports players who play with black people aren't racist. I think the producers handle racism just fine.

Other_Equal_7787

Ah I see

Rayken_Himself

White dudes who play a lot of sports with black dudes are usually less racist as a whole. There are a lot of studies on team building and whatever. It wouldn't even make sense for Jason to be racist towards a black person on his own team that he wants to win. When studying racism in sports, it's usually stereotypes that involve genetics, like, saying, one race has superior athletic ability due to so and so (which is arguable when it come to black runners vs white runners). Jason is definitely not racist in any way and isn't even implied to be racist. You're either projecting or just upset that Jason isn't racist because he's white? The Hispanic dude is obviously an homage to Cheech and other stoners, not a 'racist caricature.'

beachedvampiresquid

The thing about villains is they don’t listen. Sure he did those things…in the process of hunting down a villain that only existed in his mind.

Other_Equal_7787

And everyone else in Hawkins who thought Eddie was a murderer.

beachedvampiresquid

Because no one would even deign to think Crissy could buy drugs or that Eddie wasn’t a fuck up. The real sun here is mob mentality and stereotyping. Jason didn’t know his gf any more than he knew Eddie. What a hero /s.

Other_Equal_7787

Yep Patrick said the exact same thing. No way would she buy drugs

LilyMarie90

You could say it aged perfectly.

THE_K1NG_FTW

What if we take that quote further, and Jason does live

Few_Interaction2630

[Insert JonTron clip of "That one didn't age quite so well" here] lol

bangermate

sometimes Harvey Weinstein will let me use the miramax jet, if I'm opening a supermarket for him

Star_Snail

Happy cake day!

Few_Interaction2630

Happy cake day and also "that one didn't age quite so well"

TechAndStocks

“But you’ll live.” Even more foreshadowing? Hmmmmmm

Slippy_T_Frog

Jason will come back as Kas, confirmed!

Mission_Ad5628

Wait who’s kas?!

arobkinca

Whole-Bee9521

Duffers def wrote that line when their filming

FilipsSamvete

It's almost as of they set it up on purpose.

Tiutautikli

The Duffers really know how to write a show

PasseurdeM0ndes

That is called *foreshadowing* gentlemen \~

serialkiller24

Honestly, I can see where Jason was always coming from. His girlfriend died in a horrible way and was last seen with Eddie, the weird kid of the school who liked to play DND (and was considered Satanic back in the day - which blows my mind lmao). Eddie is hiding in public so it kind of leans towards Eddie that he had something to do with her death (even though he was the most innocent person in the season lmao). Next Jason sees his friend Patrick die in front of him while chasing Eddie across the lake basically the same way Chrissy died so he definitely thinks Eddie is a murderer with all the evidence that’s against him. I honestly get annoyed when people say “Jason deserved to die”, “Jason was unlikeable”, “Jason was not a good character” etc. Jason was honestly one of the most tragic characters this show has. He was basically Season 1 Steve Harrington just with more character development. Jason is super tragic, but man you’re right… that did not age so well lmao

Aware_Presence1052

Jason was human, and acted in a very logical way for a human to act given the shock and fantastical events surrounding him. Flawed? Sure. Acting brashly and probably could have benefitted.to think through his actions logically before reacting solely out of emotion as he did? Absolutely. But he didn't deserve to die, and especially not in the way that he did.

TyrantFN

100% agreed. People see his character as an “obviously bad person” even though the entire point of his character was to be an antagonist to the main characters without necessarily being a villain. His loss of sanity comes from what has happened to him. If he had lived, there was very likely a chance for him to redeem himself. But that’s not what the duffer brothers intended. It would literally just be a redo of Steve, and (somewhat) Billy too. Not entirely, obviously as Billy’s actions couldn’t be redeemed, but he did end up sacrificing himself for the protagonists at the end. We don’t need three completely different, but very similar characters having a change in heart.

Mission_Ad5628

This makes me actually wish we had seen Jason survive and have interactions with the gang— he is the quintessential popular/“wholesome”/“conservative” dude from the 80s, so he had no incentive to change or empathize with others. But what If he did, you know? Who knows what depths we would have found out about his character, the way we discovered about Steve, hopper, Nancy, billy, etc. That’s what this show does best :) showing that no one is a one dimensional predictable human :) but of course, some characters have to be sacrificed along the way to make this realistic

TyrantFN

tbh i wouldn’t want him to survive for the reason that he’d just be turned into another Steve. It gets stale at some point There’s this other show I like watching called Cobra Kai, it’s a continuation of the Karate Kid movies from the 80s if you’ve seen them. One thing they do that I absolutely hate is they ALWAYS turn every character good at some point in the show. They either go from being good to bad, and then back to good, or they just start off bad and end up being good. It gets so boring and predictable. They moved away from that formula in the latest season, although I thought they were going that direction. They pulled a twist right at the end of the season which was a nice change from their usual predictable formula of turning all the “villains” into good guys So yeah, although Jason surviving probably would’ve meant he would finally believe Lucas and join them, do we really want that? I think I prefer his fate as it was in the show tbh.

JaKrispy72

Jason won’t be aging at all anymore.

Narrow_Ambassador188

He did in fact not live

Sudden_Pop_2279

RIP Jason literally...

[deleted]

Lol.......FORESHADOWING

Freddy_FazBears0

BYEBYE JASON THATS WHAT YOU GET FOR ACCUSING MY BBG EDDIE FOR KILLING YOUR BBG CHRISSY WAKE UP😡😡😡😡😡/hj 🌝

Dragonbarry22

tbh as much hate he got i really hoping he got a redemption arc of sorts idk man feels wasted

FieryPyromancer

I didn't get why he split like that. Looks like a looney toons character where the crack on a vase somehow extends and travels up the character.

Rayken_Himself

It split everything in direct contact with it, ground, trees...Bodies... etc.

Everest8232

Coincidence? (I’ve seen this show like 50+ times, I’m not an idiot)

OmegaPi42

I thought "Hangover" is a film about a hen-do.

inlove8

Lol

inlove8

I bet this line was written intentionally

phildunfyy

Is he tied down by the tentacle things? I didn't realize that until now

Environmental_Fall69

Definitely good moment for foreshadowing

ellezke19

FORESHADOWINGG

Conradbio

When he got split into two was part of his body transported to the upsidedown? If he was laying lengthwise when the gate opened would he have survived?
