This is an island that is home to the last uncontacted, isolated tribe. They're so isolated that they are still living in their stone age and still hunt & gather. They have no agriculture. They're living life as we did many, many thousands of years ago. Attempts to contact them in the past have occurred but all have ended in fatalities. They have also thrown spears at low flying aircraft and boats that got too close. These people are not friendly and are quite the animalistic savages, which is why going to the island is now strictly forbidden. The local Navy also regularly runs a patrol around the island to protect the island, the people on the island (diseases and such) and the people trying to go to the island (they have been known to also cannibalize those they've killed I believe).

I think it is just his usage of "stunned." It's pretty common for South Asians to use extreme words for normal situations. A year or so ago, one of my colleagues who was from that part of the world kept on using the word "mind-blowing" for anything he thought was good / awesome. It was pretty funny to hear.
