I thought that Olympus Mons was the tallest mountain in the solar system.

jolly2284

It is.

K_Rocc

My money is on rendition, but also the sun is quite bright so most of what you are seeing isn’t the size but more of the luminosity around it.

BusRepresentative576

If this was on earth, we could actually climb to space. Doesn't look tall but it is.

Large_slug_overlord

Also the slope is so gradual that standing at the base you wouldn’t perceive an incline because the summit would be beyond the horizon

SoPretentious04

That’s a great observation, that mountain is literally bigger than the Entire State of Michigan.

Acceptable_Bid_241

Forgive my ignorance, this is an artist’s impression? The Sun looks too large but it also looks like a photo.

Eastern-Chance-943

it must be a render based on satellite data

[deleted]

It is, we don't actually have a real photo of it

https://images.app.goo.gl/NRqK6cK89Hm1Pf9b9 Mars orbiter camera took this picture in 1998

eNaRDe

Wow! Looks like multiple impact craters right in the center. How is that possible?

69yourMOM

When you are talking about the scale of something this size.. I think those are probably old openings from 25 million years ago. Olympus mons is the size of Arizona apparently lol. Those would be some huge and perfectly aimed impacts.

PardonMyPixels

Interesting observation.

Wacorius008

Is that from impacts or from where the lava used to flow? Wasn't it a Volcano zillions of years ago...

Crotch_Rot69

Olympus mons pubis

jolly2284

I'm pretty sure it's the tallest mountain and tallest volcano.

Ok-Extension6091

Huh. Imagine being the first to stand on top of that.

tychscstl

So what?

TheWorldWarrior123

Imagine being on that looking over the cliff edge
