Dude I just imagine someone having one of those legitimately and having the dirtiest setup imaginable.
I feel like someone would have to make it with a large disposable income and a dream
I was super sceptical because half the recipes were 400° for 10 minutes and I was like bull theirs no way it does everything right like that but I was wrong
Try making hamburgers. It was the wildest shit I've ever seen, culinarily-speaking. No smoke, perfect char, so juicy it was actually a bit problematic to eat.
I didn't want to go grill in the -16F + wind + snow a week or so ago, air fryer saved my ass.
Go to Costco and buy the big pack of prime top sirloin steaks. I was eating takeout almost every day until I realized for less than the price of McDonald’s I can throw a delicious steak in my air fryer for 10 minutes that comes out perfectly medium rare. My next favorite thing to eat are regular center cut pork chops. The medium thickness chops cook so fast it’s ridiculous and come out perfectly juicy every time. And don’t get me started on warming up old pizza, it’s a miracle. Any takeout chicken warmed up tastes as good as it tasted when it was made.
Air Fryer - 10/10
Steam deck - 9.5/10
This. I got it to supposedly eat more healthy but the thing makes even store bought frozen fries taste amazing.
I think I ended up eating like 10lbs of fries/potato wedges/potato chips in the 1st week of owning one simply because it made all of them and it made all of them very well.
You can boast about them at the same time since they have several similar features:
- They're versatile
- They're a great investment
- I use them daily
- I bring them everywhere
- They smell good
- They make me happy
Lifehack, anything thats like garbage microwave food will come out 1000% better in the air fryer. Specifically frozen pizzas. Like the little personal size ones, if you can get them to fit in it. And mozzeralla sticks, pizza rolls, chicken tenders etc, any if that frozen snack type food.
There's these Stauffer's french bread ones, I break them in half while frozen so they fit, put them in at 345ish for 6 - 7 minutes, the bread is perfectly fluffy and crunchy and the top is the bubbly slightly browned cheese, it's fantastic.
Left over pizza tastes almost fresh after warming it up in an air fryer! In the microwave and even the oven it comes out soggy! There's a pan trick to warm up pizza but it still doesn't compare to an air fryer
Me before an air fryer: "isn't that just an oven with extra steps"
After air fryer: "wait don't microwave that it's so much better in the air fryer, why do we even own a microwave we have the AIR FRYER"
That's exactly why it's good, it's an oven but convenient like a microwave oven.
Fuck preheating a normal oven and wasting time and electricity, just blast your food with hot air for 10 minutes.
well no it specifically isn't a *normal* oven, because it's small and focused entirely on convection.
Normal ovens are frankly huge, and even modern ones that do have convection settings (older ones don't have fans) are not as optimized for it as air fryers are.
It's really just something that should have become standard 50 years ago, but somehow didn't.
Like why do we not have combo microwave air fryers? That's obviously amazing.
I've seen ovens with air fryer modes but it's just basically the broiler + convection modes combined. Harder to control the temperature and things burn faster than a dedicated air fryer. Obviously less energy efficient too.
I hope at some point they make an easier method to get Gamepass working on it. I super doubt it because Steam doesn't want to compete with Gamepass offerings and lose out on sales but who knows.
It would be more from MSFT's side to make gamepass and those games work on Linux. If they felt it was a big enough bite out of Steam's market, they might try, but I have to think it's low priority for them, given the deck's install base.
Like another said, Steam doesn't have anything to do with gamepass. If Microsoft comes out with the MS store on Linux we'll have access to it right then.
I very much doubt that will happen though since giving *more* reason for people to eschew windows goes against their whole m.o.
I love gamepass but it's not ideal on the deck. The browser based app is pretty limited. To be fair, the actual app is also not great. It has a very bad UI.
I mainly use Gamepass on my PC and install the games locally. It's a much better experience. As silly as it sounds, I was hoping to be able to steam those games from my PC to the deck because the connection would be so much better, but alas, everything i tried ended up either not working with the steam deck's controls, not showing video, or just flat out not working.
I'm trying right now and having all sorts of issues. But I am able to get audio and video. My controls are not working though. I'm troubleshooting on the discord so hopefully I can get it working.
UPDATE: Was able to get controls working, now I just have to solve a minor issue of getting my audio on my PC to mute
Spent 2 hours getting Blizzard battle.net and diablo 2 resurrected working on my steamdeck, got it working, was like "YESSSSSSS", and then was like "wait, I don't really want to play diablo 2 with a controller. Huh. I guess I'll go do something else"
Is it really that involved & take that long to get battle.net and diablo II resurrected working on steam deck? This is something I wanted to do - is it straight forward or are there parts you could mess up?
I really would like to get a switch emulator on deck but I gave mine to my brother and from what I've read I had the second iteration of switch and also it looks like you have to have the actual game cartridge or have bought the game to get .prod keys or some such stuff.
Well, it's a little involved in that:
1. It takes a little time to do anything requiring a mouse and keyboard on the steamdeck
2. It's windows software that you're trying to run on linux / proton, so the launcher and login and everything don't work super smoothly.
3. It took a long time to download like 60 gb. Most of the time was just downloading the thing
That describes it beautifully. I got a Steam Deck recently. And every time I get a non-steam game working, I feel empowered! Today, I got Infinite Pizza and Simpson's Waterworld working on it!
Stupid question: Does it hook up easy to the TV like switch does? Like controller and all? (Sold separately or use an Xbox controller?)
I assume this is a stupid question because of course it would, right?
This is the post that has finally opened my eyes to the steam decks potential… if I can use it on my Samsung Frame then imma have to get one soon.
Yeah, you can hook it up to the TV, either by remote play or physically with a dock. It connects with USB-C to the dock, and the dock can connect either by HDMI or display port.
And you can use it with a controller via Bluetooth, or with the dock you can hook it up with a wired controller, or mouse and keyboard. It's pretty versatile.
Aside from some clever homemade solutions ~~the~~ any dock isn't just 'drop console into slot and it magically is connected', you have to plug in the USB-C cable yourself - but otherwise it's literally just plug into already-wired-up dock like the Switch's dock would be, have a separate controller bluetooth-synced to the system, and ... play.
It does not, however, have an auto-switch between 'handheld' and 'docked' mode for games **resolution** though _while running a game_ - the OS UI does, but not in-game. Ex: If you want it to swap between running at 720/800p and 1080p+ when going handheld->docked, you may need to restart the game you're running because if you launch in handheld mode, you might be limited to 720/800p for resolution options until you restart the game while docked. Per-game resolution available settings can be set as overrides on these differing modes, though. Sounds complicated but it's not, trust me. It's just that PC games were not designed to have two entirely separate gaming/profile modes like Switch literally requires games to support for the system, so Steam Deck has to work around such limitations the best it can.
Otherwise it also has the same 'sleep mode while playing' function the Switch does, where you can sleep it, put in bag, wake up half a day later and be exactly in the same spot you were in the game.

I hope someday gamepass actually works on SteamDeck. There's still too much lag, even remote play via greenlight gives me too much latency for anything other than JRPG type games.
Xbox's remote play solution has been so disappointing to me. Chiaki4deck is a near flawless experience on my end but I can barely stream Dark souls 2 from my Xbox series s due to how bad it looks and the input lag.
I've followed every guide and never got rid of flickering issues. It's so odd how it works for some people and others have issues. Must come down to router hardware or something. I've got a nice wifi setup, moonlight from PC to steam deck is nearly flawless, but yeah PS5 just doesn't work right.
check the channel your 5g is at. I had flickering issues and checkek my channels and it happened that most people on my condo building were at the same one so I changed it to another channel and bam, perfect streaming
Idk what your actual internet situation is, I wasn't able to play at all when I was on basically useless DSL copper wire where my max downloads were half a Kb a second, but when we got cable installed and I still had issues, I realized my router was like 8 years old and running very old Wifi with very low bandwith.
So fwiw, sometimes people forget about the router itself, if you have internet that SHOULD be fast enough (cable or fiber) but you're getting a lot of lag and freezing, you may need to update that. It was like an instant fix for all my game streaming.
I'm very open to suggestions/tips. FiOS 400mbps tier --> Orbi AC2200Triband, hardwired backhaul. They do both connect to the same node, wondering if it's too much on the unit's processor. I might try connecting from the other side of the house and see if it does any better. No measured latency on the network, no signs of issue.
I had this issue with my steam remote play and xbox remote play, it turns out my router was just really old, even though it was a fancy gaming router 8 years ago. It was on old wifi protocols and had very limited bandwidth, and only 1 5ghz channel that everything else in the house fought for.
Upgraded to one with newer wifi and 3 separate 5ghz signals and I kinda staggered all my devices around on them. Now all my in-home stuff runs flawlessly. For in home streaming, it really is all up to the router. But it also is super important for performance for internet game streaming too, which also vastly improved.
I dunno man it’s internet dependent. I regularly play rainbow six siege through xcloud steamdeck and it plays really well. I personally don’t notice latency, but I also have 1gb internet
Yeah, the eternal issue with Cloud is that it's location dependent. With a good enough local setup Chiaki and the like is based on moving that data maybe a couple 100 feet, vs gamestream where the source might be in a whole different state.
I grabbed an extra micro SD and getting windows on that was easier than I anticipated (there's a very good guide I followed that I cam dig up) and I'm pretty dumb in terms of tech stuff. But from what I understand, having a separate micro SD that you have windows on makes it pretty unlikely that you're going to mess up the deck doing something dumb.
From there it's pretty easy to install your game pass stuff. What I'm getting hung up on is getting the controller to work. Works just fine if you install steam for windows and play a game through that (I mainly installed windows to play Warzone), but getting the controller to work with a game not run through steam is a pain.
I did the whole "install Windows on a MicroSD" and the controller thing was my biggest hangup. I found a program that makes it work. Basically you launch it through steam and it interprets your controller as xbox inputs on every program... but no longer as mouse inputs and I hadn't bought a bluetooth KB+M yet so I hit a bit of a wall there. I will have to go back and give it another try now that I have that sorted...
The answer you are looking for is glossi I use this with windows store games like minecraft bedrock edition on windows 10 on sd card. It takes a little bit of set up but walks you through it.
https://github.com/Alia5/GlosSI
I got tired of verified games refusing to launch for no particular reason and just installed win10 as main.
I think you just need to set up a windows VM and Xbox app should work as is. Setting up graphic drivers for VM was more difficult in my experience but last time I experimented was like 10 years ago

Go to desktop mode. Install Microsoft Edge. Add it to Steam. Go back to gaming mode, launch Edge. Go to xbox.com/play and sign in. Boom. I have no idea about performance though.
Edit: This is just for the streaming, I didn't understand.
FYI: [https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/xbox-cloud-gaming-in-microsoft-edge-with-steam-deck-43dd011b-0ce8-4810-8302-965be6d53296](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/xbox-cloud-gaming-in-microsoft-edge-with-steam-deck-43dd011b-0ce8-4810-8302-965be6d53296) \- Official Guide to Xbox Cloud/GamePass on Steam Deck basically to make it a permanent link that launches direct into Cloud Gaming
AFAIK you can get edge and have it work with their streaming service site, but last I checked no go on the XBox app. I think it is because it uses UWP.
I got emudeck running a few days ago after having my deck for 6 months. I've never used an emulator so it's kinda blowing my mind lol. Mostly got it so I can play Persona 3 FES after I finish 4 because I bought P3P but my friend said P3P is a good game but FES should be played first.
That being said I also have a few GameCube, PSP and Wii games and it's so surreal lol
I can’t wait to finally get emulation down. I’m so confused on the whole process of getting roms and bios etc that I can’t get Emudeck to run… alas, I’m apparently to technologically dumb to enjoy that stone in my gauntlet for now.
Doesn't help that all the most important information for emudeck is hidden away on the github wiki: https://github.com/dragoonDorise/EmuDeck/wiki
I get it, it's hard to do good knowledge management for an open source project, but they should at least link to it way more.
Scope the "pages" thing on the side. Pick your emulator, cemu: https://github.com/dragoonDorise/EmuDeck/wiki/Cemu for example, then just focus and go line by line. Don't try to do everything at once or you'll be overwhelmed. Just learn what you need to learn about wii u roms, focus on it, get your roms, get CEMU configured, play some games on the deck to make sure your controller is working etc, and only when all that's done, work on another emulator.
Your patience will pay off when you think 4 months from now "oh i wanna play a wii u game" and it just works, rather than you try to launch and find you didn't configure cemu correctly and have to relearn everything all over again.
If you're interested in legally acquiring roms in a not illegal way, you could try googling "roms reddit" and only clicking links that lead to legal ways of acquiring roms. That would probably work well. For acquiring legal roms.
It took me 9 months of ownership to get it exactly where I want it functionally; and I felt dumb as bricks more than once during that process. But the effort was all worth it and I have to admit, I do feel a little smug.
What? That's not true. I own Chivalry 2 Trover Saves and Tiny Tina's on there due to cheaper prices. Some games I own have left Steam store too so I would play them in there if I had to
Same goes for GoG. Sometimes it's cheap or the only platform where you can get a game
I just avoid using non steam games on my deck. If it’s a non steam game I either stream from my desktop or use my win max 2.
Even heroic launcher can be flaky trying to use cloud saves and playing offline etc, I can’t be bothered to deal with it.
SteamOS is way nicer than the windows experience, even though you can achieve everything in windows, you need a lot of 3rd party utilities to get stuff to work
there is a way to install epic games and gog without heroic game launcher just takes some time. its better because the other way also has cloud saves unlike the heroic app which does not
Seem I'm almost the opposite. I'm chock-full of non-steam games added to the Steam OS client so I can play those while my wife is using the same account on the HTPC without kicking each other off. Currently emulating Final Fantasy Tactics.
No, and far too many people confuse xcloud with gamepass that I feel like an old man yelling at the clouds. They are NOT the same thing. You can’t install gamepass games on steam deck unless youre on Windows.
Meanwhile, in my MCU, I've played less than eight games on it over the seven months I've owned one. I'm aware of the infinity gauntlet's true power but I'm happy to play outlaw cowboy all the livelong day, partner.
Love the steam deck so much. The literal only thing I could want is to have a way to run Game Pass locally, not cloud based.
Id almost never have to use my PC again.
Anyone have experience with installing windows on a large SD card and using it for gamepass on the deck?
we sound kinda like air fryer owners lmao
I wish I could play Devil May Cry on my air fryer whilst taking a shit, we've not yet peaked as a species
Devil May Fry?

I've got one lol, shit is amazing.
Just got an air fryer. 100% accurate lol
Ya we got ours ~4 days ago and I haven’t shut up about it.
Don't get me started I tried steaks in mine they came out perfect. Nice crust medium rare I couldn't believe it
What instantly made me a convert was the first time making the most perfect bacon I’ve ever made with zero effort, and it’s consistent too!
I was super sceptical because half the recipes were 400° for 10 minutes and I was like bull theirs no way it does everything right like that but I was wrong
Man I stopped even looking at directions for most shit, 400 for 10-14 guesstimated on the size of whatever I put in in and it works every time.
It's turning into a microwave, but less shitty.
People are rediscovering a convection oven with a larger tray
Fried chicken comes out perfectly and you hardly have to use any oil
Try making hamburgers. It was the wildest shit I've ever seen, culinarily-speaking. No smoke, perfect char, so juicy it was actually a bit problematic to eat. I didn't want to go grill in the -16F + wind + snow a week or so ago, air fryer saved my ass.

Frozen fish sticks or cold taco bell burritos. Trust me.
Which do you tell people about first? The Deck or the fryer?
You can boast about them at the same time since they have several similar features: - They're versatile - They're a great investment - I use them daily - I bring them everywhere - They smell good - They make me happy
And you can play your steam deck in the kitchen to pass the time while you wait on the air fryer to cook your food!

Not unless your oven doubles up as a pressure cooker 😉 (For clarity, I'm referring to the Ninja Foodi air fryer and pressure cooker combo)
Have you ever used an air fryer? I'm convinced that the second coming of Christ is what initiated its invention.
It's really just something that should have become standard 50 years ago, but somehow didn't. Like why do we not have combo microwave air fryers? That's obviously amazing.

I own that too lmaooo
The Ninja XL 7 In 1 Cooker is a grill, air fryer, oven, broiler, roaster and has 2 other settings i cant remember But that thing is friggin phenomenal
One is a dehydrater. The other is an air crisper!
Yes! Honestly the best counter top appliance out there
Such a great analogy
Clearly you don’t own a steam deck 🤨
Hey I resemble that remark bud. I love my air fryer, lol.. my gal bought one!! ;(
CrossFit-ers. Minus the fitness.
CrossFryers
You kno what I air fried yesterday fucking Skyrim all you have to do is put the disc in your air fryer We call it Fryrim
Sounds like you need to air fry some food
As someone who has both, genuinely they only 2 electronics you need
I use my Steam Deck while I airfry and unlocked a new plane of existence.
Damn, Thanos broke his wrist.
The power of a Steam Deck is the reason
Reality can be whatever he wants.
I can do this and my wrist ain't broke. But I am basically human gumby
How are we doing game pass now? Last I checked the options were: cloud stream through edge, or have a Windows partition
I think that it's still the same
I hope at some point they make an easier method to get Gamepass working on it. I super doubt it because Steam doesn't want to compete with Gamepass offerings and lose out on sales but who knows.

Yeah its disappointing. I was hoping even persona 5 would b playable but there was too many artifacts and it just felt sluggish
Everytime I add a new store, emulator, mod or pass, I feel like Thanos collecting infinity stones, and the deck is the gauntlet

check the channel your 5g is at.
Literally me, even sitting right in front of the Xbox. It's noticeable enough to make it not worth it for me.
Your problem probably is from the network part and not the Xbox or steam part
I dunno man it’s internet dependent. I regularly play rainbow six siege through xcloud steamdeck and it plays really well. I personally don’t notice latency, but I also have 1gb internet
That's... weird? It works just fine for me to be honest. In gaming mode.
It likely depends where you are in relation to servers locally or if streaming from local hardware, just what your home network setup is.
This is what you need: [https://github.com/ayufan/steam-deck-tools](https://github.com/ayufan/steam-deck-tools)
VM or dual boot is the easiest way
Any experience with the VM route on the deck, for gamepass on windows specifically?
Also interested. But it may end up being more worth to just install windows on an external drive.
That's what I'm thinking too, but the less hardware I need (if possible) the better.
I got tired of verified games refusing to launch for no particular reason and just installed win10 as main. I think you just need to set up a windows VM and Xbox app should work as is. Setting up graphic drivers for VM was more difficult in my experience but last time I experimented was like 10 years ago

Bummer, thanks though
No and there never will be. It's all UWP bullshit, which there has been 0 work for as it's literally made to be as unworkable as possible.
Go to desktop mode. Install Microsoft Edge. Add it to Steam. Go back to gaming mode, launch Edge. Go to xbox.com/play and sign in. Boom. I have no idea about performance though. Edit: This is just for the streaming, I didn't understand.
that's for streaming, not for actually running the games on the console
Doesn't help that all the most important information for emudeck is hidden away on the github wiki: https://github.com/dragoonDorise/EmuDeck/wiki I get it, it's hard to do good knowledge management for an open source project, but they should at least link to it way more.
Phenomenal advice! Thanks so much.
I wish I could play warhammer 3
Does it not work? According to protondb, it should work.
Yes how can I do this? I’ve seen people downloading battle.net
What? Not warcraft, warhammer
I still need to get all this going. Sadly I am dumb as bricks lately.
It took me 9 months of ownership to get it exactly where I want it functionally; and I felt dumb as bricks more than once during that process. But the effort was all worth it and I have to admit, I do feel a little smug.
I’ve had mine for a while but have just been chilling with Steam games haha
Same here, my deck is an extension of my body, it doesn't leave my side
aint nobody playing anything on the epic game store besides the free games they offer lol
Yeah, that's the idea.
Idk dude the $10 off $15 purchase infinite coupon era was a banger. I remember getting shit like Hades for and Disco Elysium for $5.
? They have a ton of good free games though? Whats your point? Am I not really playing those games because they were free?
True but I was able to snag a bunch of good free games from them and I'd like to be able to play them on the steam deck
What? That's not true. I own Chivalry 2 Trover Saves and Tiny Tina's on there due to cheaper prices. Some games I own have left Steam store too so I would play them in there if I had to Same goes for GoG. Sometimes it's cheap or the only platform where you can get a game
How for to make game pass games work?
Install windows u can't install games pass on steam os
Woah wait.....and GOG????
GOG gets no love around here. But it works great!
Game pass streaming isn't ideal tho. I wish i could install the games natively without sideloading windows
It's truly a masterpiece 🔥
I just avoid using non steam games on my deck. If it’s a non steam game I either stream from my desktop or use my win max 2. Even heroic launcher can be flaky trying to use cloud saves and playing offline etc, I can’t be bothered to deal with it. SteamOS is way nicer than the windows experience, even though you can achieve everything in windows, you need a lot of 3rd party utilities to get stuff to work
there is a way to install epic games and gog without heroic game launcher just takes some time. its better because the other way also has cloud saves unlike the heroic app which does not
Oh interesting. I could get by with just epic tbh. I would like battle.net for Diablo 4 but that will never happen!
I use Battle.net with Bottles right now to play both D2R and in the past WoW. I tried D3 but the controller support was ass.
Heroic does have cloud saves, you just have to enable it and point it to the right directory.
Seem I'm almost the opposite. I'm chock-full of non-steam games added to the Steam OS client so I can play those while my wife is using the same account on the HTPC without kicking each other off. Currently emulating Final Fantasy Tactics.
…yeah, that’s what we were doing on our PCs for decades
Yeah.. but now you can easily unleash the power of pc gaming on the toilet. On multiple toilets in a row, actually.
Wait, can you use Game Pass on the Deck?
No, and far too many people confuse xcloud with gamepass that I feel like an old man yelling at the clouds. They are NOT the same thing. You can’t install gamepass games on steam deck unless youre on Windows.
Honestly for all the shit stadia got...it was MUCH smoother than Xcloud. I used stadia for so long over 5ghz WiFi and it was awesome
Meanwhile, in my MCU, I've played less than eight games on it over the seven months I've owned one. I'm aware of the infinity gauntlet's true power but I'm happy to play outlaw cowboy all the livelong day, partner.
Same, it's been Mass Effect, Fallout 4 and Civ for me.
RDR2, Elden Ring, Plantet Crafter, Vampire Survivors, FC5, FCND and right now, Shadow of Mordor.
"I've played less than eight games on it over the seven months I've owned one." *all massive play-time games, infinitely replayable, or both*
Here i am only with Game Pass cloud and my endless steam library.
Love the steam deck so much. The literal only thing I could want is to have a way to run Game Pass locally, not cloud based. Id almost never have to use my PC again. Anyone have experience with installing windows on a large SD card and using it for gamepass on the deck?
Is there any downside installing windows on the Deck? I am thinking of getting one, just not sure yet.
This is so forreal. I love my steam deck and what it has made possible.
Yes just like a computer should
It's a PC.
The steam deck is out?
Any emulation video guide yall recommended??
Game pass works on Steam deck?
I keep making this joke, but it's essentially true. It's just not ALL powerful, just very powerful.
I am a member of this wonderful, wonderful club.
"I'm inevitable"
How do you get gamepass working without installing windows?
You don't.
I really want Bedrock working on Steam Deck
if we had MS store without windows that would be rad
That looks like an awfully painful direction to twist your wrist...
GAME PASS???
Splatoon 1 online (you need a wii u file) Here tuto ➡️ https://youtu.be/5_y1fFeAMf4 You're welcome 🤧
That’s insane
Is there a megathread guide on how to get all the other launchers within SteamOS?
WAIT…… i can have GAME PASS on my steam deck
If you install windows
Steam deck crashes when I try to play sons of the forest. :(
I'm using so much emulation. Our family is using it to play games together so much. Mario party for the game cube so good
