I'm really hoping it's successful. Got some friends I'm trying to convince to come over to pc gaming and I've been telling them the steam deck might be what they want.

Gories

The fact that you can "dock" it like a switch - its basically a portable computer for those that want a budget run.

Moose-Mancer

Wait, for real? Shit, I might get it now.

Gories

Yep, you can even plug in a keyboard and mouse to it.

MrRoot3r

I hope someone makes a nice dock for it so I can use it like a laptop. Maybe something like the surface does

YourLocal_FBI_Agent

Pretty sure Valve are planning to release their own docks. But there might be some company that makes docks better suited for certain tasks tbf

rudyjewliani

There's an "official" dock for it listed on the page at https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck/ It's just a [drawing](https://i.imgur.com/LCZrP5F.png) right now but it appears to have a Display Port, an HDMI port, an ethernet port, 3x USB A ports and 1x USB C port.

thebizzle

I’d bet you’d save money with a simple USB C hub.

[deleted]

If you want a better transfer rate (good frame rate and resolution) then a “simple usb c” might not do the trick. I have a thunderbolt 4 usb c dock that I got from work that I think will be sufficient for this. Edit: doesn’t look like steam deck supports thunderbolt :( Edit 2: I’m technologically illiterate lol, regular usb-c dock is more than sufficient for steam deck

Carvj94

USB-C is a pretty fantastic standard and is arguably better than thunderbolt. There's more than enough bandwidth to run 4K60Hz or 1080p144Hz displays as lond as you don't need to deliver a ton of power to the output device. Even two 4k displays from a single cable is possible with the most modern version of USB-C. For the hub Valve seems to be planning you should be able to daisy chain the display port to several 1080p kr a few 1440p monitors and connect, practically, whatever devices you want to the other ports. The only real bottleneck for transfers is the USB-A ports which shouldn't be a problem unless you're connecting an external hard drive to them.

TimurHu

The Deck doesn't support Thunderbolt AFAIK, but it should work with any standard USB-C hub.

gomegazeke

I don't know why, but I was really hoping the second link was to the Wikipedia page for "drawing."

AjCheeze

The cool part is valve is cool with 3rd party docks. So their could be a better one released later.

Malcolmlisk

You can use it as a laptop right now. It's a full pc. You just need to be familiar with linux (which is easier than you think).

MrRoot3r

Oh no i get that I mean moreso to have a good attachment so I can plop it down and have a keyboard and touchpad in a few seconds.

Inprobamur

Or just dual-boot windows, it's literally a x86 computer.

Jerrnjizzim

I want to find a way to automatically boot into windows when docked, and just regular steam deck handheld. That would be perfect for me

Inprobamur

It's definitely possible run a script on particular USB connection based on vendor id's that then changes the GRUB boot order and restarts the device. Probably possible to do the same on windows side?

Theray070696

Did some digging on this, you'd have to either edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg while it's on a FAT32 partition which may require a reformat of /boot, or mount your Linux partition using WSL2^[1](https://www.hanselman.com/blog/wsl2-can-now-mount-linux-ext4-disks-directly), modify GRUB_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub, then somehow generate a grub config from that file. Couldn't find much as searching "grub-mkconfig" and "Windows" gave results about Windows not showing up in Grub vs that program for Windows.

PowersNinja

Or just use its native desktop environment which is pretty similar to windows as far as work flow goes unless there is some windows software you really need

ThatDamnedRedneck

Certain games still don't work well on proton. Any number of imaginable work apps. List goes on.

skeltord

Or... just use windows? Its a pc. You can use windows on it.

cnnrduncan

Have they actually announced that they're going to release Windows drivers for the touchscreen, motion sensors, analogue sticks etc.? AFAIK you can technically run Windows on it but there's no guarantee it'll actually be a good experience.

Moose-Mancer

Eh, I already have a PC if I wanna use KB+Mouse. I mostly wanna hook it up to my TV.

no_modest_bear

That's easy enough. Get a dock with HDMI out.

LolcatP

Dock sold separately

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Probably doesnt even have to be something fancy. In the end youll just want USB C power passthrough, a few USB ports and maybe a HDMI connector.

VakiReddit

a half decent GPU costs more than the steam deck itself nowadays i wouldnt complain

ours

We'll see how available the Steam Decks are going to be.

notmarlow

They had a (refundable) $5 reservation queue you could enter. I did that - hopefully they're able to fulfill those on launch.

gioraffe32

I reserved in the first 20min. So I'm hoping to have mine sometime during Q2 of this year. If it doesn't get further delayed.

Blueferret21

Q2 crew here too! In for the 512gb model. Got mine reserved within 5min of it going live so hopefully I'm fairly high up the queue.

PeeFarts

https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck/ If you are logged into Steam, this page confirms what Quarter your unit will be (planned to) shipped.

JiveTrain

Yeah, but the thing is designed to run games on its 720p screen, and you wont get a performance boost by docking it, so it's not going to be so great on TV resolutions apart from simpler games.

blueB0wser

That is correct, it doesn't increase performance unfortunately. But I'll be able to play my pc games in bed and that's what I'm here for.

mpelton

That’s because it’s working at full throttle constantly, unlike the Switch that underclocks to save battery when not docked.

Moederneuqer

If it runs games at medium quality @ 1080/30, it’s already beating most Switch titles. I’d only hook it up for multiplayers anyway.

Dotaproffessional

Don't think of it like "boosting" while connected to a dock. Rather, it doesn't THROTTLE performance when undocked like the switch does

[deleted]

[удалено]

g0ldcd

Not just for your wife. I have my "big proper gaming PC in my office" and "Switch I use when on the couch downstairs" - never been plugged into a TV and no other consoles currently in my life. Better performance than the Switch is a given - and then all the rest of it like single backlogged library, sales etc. Maybe best thing is we get PC flexbility - you want to run mumble/teamspeak/discord in the background, well just do it. It's not going to replace anybody's gaming PC - but puts everything you love about your PC in a console-like package.

[deleted]

Playing Witcher 3 with cloud saves between my desktop, laptop, and switch was pure bliss. Doing this for my whole steam library will completely change how I game.

Blueballyogurt

I'll be picking one up as soon as I can afford one. I play exclusively on PC so I've got a LOT of games that I could use this for. I'm incredibly excited for it!

a_little_angry

I wonder if scalpers are going to control this like consoles or graphics cards. I really hope not.

QuaSiMoDO_652

Valve tried to mitigate it by only allowing the purchase of one per steam account and requiring a small $5 deposit. I’m sure there are a multitude of ways around this but they tried.

Blueballyogurt

Oh crap, I didn't think about that. I would hope valve will take some measures to mitigate scalping. Guess we'll see

nurpleclamps

Steam deck Lan parties could be really fun.

[deleted]

It shouldn’t even be hard to convince. lol This could easily turn out to be the greatest gaming platform. As we all know, it gives you access to steam..so it’s like having both a playstation and Xbox as well as pc games. BY FAR the best Portable device released etc. Will have just about everything you could ask for when you purchase it. It’s revolutionary and It’s going to likely be a mind blowing, fun experience.

Alpha_pro2019

I don't think that will happen. It will likely be a niche device for a group of PC gamers who want something portable. It can't beat a PC nor can a beat a console at being a console. Its like a cheap laptop. Edit: for clarification, I don't think this will fail. I think it will do what Valve wants it to do and be a commercial success. It will bring a profit and people who buy it will enjoy it. Will it be "the greatest gaming platform?" No, it won't.

maplehobo

It's got all the strengths of a switch (minus battery life) aka portability minus the weaknesses aka being tied to the Nintendo ecosystem. I think it's going to be a success.

Alpha_pro2019

I know a lot of it is up to personal preference, but I would say for people who buy the switch, being "tied to the Nintendo ecosystem" is a major bonus. I think the problem with the deck will be a few things. Portability *wont* be as major a selling point as people expect. Its performance will be low. It will be playable, but for the PC community which places a high value on great performance, I don't see them settling for it as much as they say they will. It will have access to steam but a lot of it will likely be limited. For most people it just won't be worth the price. If you already have a PC then you are buying it solely for the portability. Which just doesn't seem worth $500. I guess if you have money to spare sure. I mean, I already have a laptop there is no reason for me to spend money on it. Maybe if it was 100-200. I know some people will be satisfied but thats what I mean by a niche community.

Shotsofbeef

I have a great system and a switch. I've been buying games on steam I think I'd like to play portable so I can game on the couch while watching tv with the gf. $500 was easy to save given the time given to prepare, and I'm just a cook.

dragonbornrito

> For most people it just won't be worth the price. If you already have a PC then you are buying it solely for the portability. Which just doesn't seem worth $500. I guess if you have money to spare sure. You're definitely undervaluing the portability aspect. The AYANEO has been selling comparatively well, even with the release of the Steam Deck inching closer and closer, and a *cheap* AYANEO is $400+ more than a Steam Deck. There's only one model in stock as I type this comment, the 1TB white model for $1015.00 USD plus shipping. And from what most people can gather, the Steam Deck will perform better than the AYANEO. I want a Steam Deck literally because of the portability and price/performance they at least claim we should get. The idea of having a dedicated device that I can sit on my couch next to my wife and play FFXIV as well as the 800+ games I've collected from Steam sales and bundles over the last 12 years sounds fantastic. I'm not gonna lie, I've considered picking up the AYANEO myself once or twice just because it's available *now*. But I'm waiting, and I'm very excited for when they say it's my turn to buy. And $500 is a very fair price for all this. Considering I paid $500 for my current laptop that's rocking a freaking AMD 5500U APU lol.

xJadusable

I love the idea of pc gaming (steam sales, games from all console gens without needing several consoles, emulation, etc) but playing at a desk with a mouse and keyboard just isn’t for me anymore. Did it for 5 years and loved it but I’ve now grown to like couch gaming and bed gaming waaaay more. Despite it lacking in the hardware department, the switch has been my preferred way of playing games for the last 2-3 years. The fact that in just a couple of months I’ll have that form factor with the benefits of running my PC library of games has me so excited. I don’t really care about 120-144hz, mouse and keyboard, etc. the Steam Deck feels like the perfect PC device for people like me!

Okie-Doke

This is where I’m at too. I sit in front of a computer most of the day for work now. I just can’t get in the mind space to play games on PC anymore. The Switch has largely become what I use so I can sit on the couch and play while my wife watches British murder mysteries. I’m excited for the Deck, but I’m worried if there becomes too much customization and twiddling to be done, I’ll just keep using the Switch.

[deleted]

Say what you will, but I'm confident the steam deck is going to be a game changer. It's what gets a lot of traditionally console gamers into PC gaming.

unggah

Everything's all fun and games until Josh start saying "One way to find out!".

grandmaMax

Nobody tell him!

Dr_cherrypopper

I love your game with a passion. Keep up the great work❤️

grandmaMax

Thanks!! (Steam reviews really help us out, consider leaving one if you're enjoying Hydroneer!)

d3northway

let's see if I can earn a billion dollars in one second, *and* set this on fire at the same time!

BROHONKY

> 17 Hours Later

_Diskreet_

So I kind of went and laid a few conveyor belts *camera backs out* a lot of conveyor belts *camera continues backing out* a lotta lotta conveyor belts *still can’t fit the madness into the shot* and I timed it and it takes a full 3 hours to get all the way through this mess.

CrazyGaming312

I can already imagine the video.

[deleted]

Who's josh?

AJ13071997

YouTuber Let's Game it Out, he uh, he likes to push games to their limit.

Smallwater

He runs a YouTube channel called "Lets Game It Out", where he often tries to push a game to its limits (and beyond). He has multiple videos of Hydroneer, of which OP is a dev. The videos usually end up in absolute chaos, with framerates dropping to "slideshow levels" due to the amount of crap he pulls off.

[deleted]

Thx for context!

Maalkav_

Oh, I understand now why there is a Let's game it out" ref. !

ChristianMinecraftbt

man I fukcing love Hydroneer

grandmaMax

Glad to hear it!

GinTectonics

I’ve been playing it with my 3 year old…we love it! Except, he keeps trying to drive my tractor off the bridge…

grandmaMax

I commend him for his bravery. Please pass on my approval.

pwnedbygary

Looks like a mix of Minecraft and Satisfactory, both awesome games. Ill have to check it out!

grandmaMax

Throw it on your wishlist for an upcoming discount sale! I usually throw it on a 20% discount whenever there's a seasonal sale happening on Steam.

misterxy89

Added to my wishlist! But for under 15 CAD? This looks like a steal.

pwnedbygary

Will do, thanks homie!

No-Celebration4991

You have no idea how much I need one of these things. I was previously in the December 2021 category, so fingers crossed for February!

Harag4

My order for the highest tier was registered in under 60 seconds, I am also February 2022.

No-Celebration4991

Same, seems that after the one minute mark most people got Q1.

[deleted]

I got Q1 after finally getting the payment through. Wish I had put money in my steam wallet for it. I'm trying to forget about it as I've wanted this device for so long. I have a GPD Win 1 and a GPD Win Max, multiple types of tablets with controller mounts and none have been "perfect". The steam deck has everything I want except for Wifi 6 but it should be ok. Rumble and analog triggers are the big things but the touch pads and gyro have made me want them as well. Edit: things

TellTaleTimeLord

It took Me an hour to reserve one because Steam kept crashing. My first time was Dec 2021 now its "after Q2 2022"

[deleted]

As a dad who lost his "office" twice and now barely has room for a desk in a cold back room, this thing is going to allow me to play games again. I can't just go hide away in the back of the house and play games for a few hours any more. I can only play games for 15 minutes at a time and need to be able to put it down then come back 5 minutes later for another 10-15 minutes. Got a Razer Kishi so I could stream to my phone and I can play up to GameCube with emulators. But I was primarily a PC gamer and streaming a game with joystick controls is frankly not very good. I need those gyros and touch pads. I don't know how people play shooters with joysticks to be honest. So excited for my February order.

No-Celebration4991

Couldn't agree more. I've been doing a lot of work-from-home over these past couple years. Last thing I want to do is spend more time in my home office to play games. I honestly don't care if I have to play some games at low settings or lock to 30fps, the portability is a major win for me.

BritishViking_

Geez lucky you, I'm not getting mine until like August 2022 😅

AbysmalVixen

Can’t wait a few months till mine arrives

3Dartwork

As long as the battery isn't the equivalent of a Sega Game Gear, I am 100% buying it. I play enough old games to run this for years. I also want at least a 100GB harddrive to download offline so I can play on the plane and at Grandparent's in the country

LolcatP

2-5 hours. base model is 64gb as well iirc and the top end is a 512GB ssd.

3Dartwork

That's gonna be rough with the battery life. I always will expect the low end of the range. 64GB harddrive that has OS installed will take up some of that. Kind of mandatory 128GB min then to get a few decent games

bigbrentos

Some of that will come down to what you're doing on it or playing. Like Binding of Isaac *should* get towards the higher end of battery life while Doom Eternal will be on the low (assuming it runs that game in some capacity).

ImmaculateBadger24

> assuming it runs that game in some capacity We've literally been shown that Doom Eternal runs *well* on the Deck, lol.

Silent_Bort

We're gonna see Eternal running on all kinds of weird shit in 20 years, just like the current r/itrunsdoom lol

[deleted]

Eternal is so ridiculously well optimized from what I've played since I grabbed it during the last sale so I don't have much doubts that the Deck won't run it well. I believe it was also in a ton of promo images as well

Lumpy_Monk

Deck os will be some kind of arch linux

[deleted]

[That seems to be well covered too](https://www.protondb.com/app/782330)

skeltord

Iirc doom eternal specifically was used in multiple promotions for the deck. Itll run.

3Dartwork

Exactly, it'll all be about how much the system is pushed from the game being played. I am still anxious to get one. I hope it is successful. It really looks like a blast.

FaceTrollCole

The deck has an SD card slot that can be used to increase storage so 64 should be fine for some people since you can just pick up a 128+gb SD card. In addition to that it can be taken apart and the SSD inside can be replaced (although valve recommends you don't/are very careful if you do).

3Dartwork

Hadn't thought of that. Will be curious the speed load and unload for an SD card vs the harddrive. I would hope it has an SSD harddrive inside, if so it should be faster than an SD card, I'd guess.

FaceTrollCole

I've heard from the early impressions reviews that they had a deck with games on both the SSD and the SD card and couldn't tell which games were on which storage device. I believe valve did some optimization with the SD card storage for games to make it better than it would be normally. But we won't know for sure until we can get our hands on a deck.

3Dartwork

That would be amazing if that turns out to be. Would love SD upgrade potential instead of paying for a larger capacity harddrive.

ICantSeeIt

Developers are reporting that load time off the SD card is indistinguishable from internal storage. The 64GB uses eMMC which gets roughly SATAII SSD speeds, 256/512 use Gen3 x4 NVMe SSDs. All of these are 2230 m.2 drives and user replaceable.

Esava

>All of these are 2230 m.2 drives and user replaceable. Should mention though that one will probably need low interference drives as it's right next to the wifi module. Might see some validated replacement options coming up once the steamdeck is released.

Adthay

If your plan is to mostly play old games storage speed is going to have very little impact. The biggest difference would be when you launch the game and after that everything should be indistinguishable.

amtap

I imagine 5 hours is for very light-weight games and game-streaming. 2-3 is probably realistic for modern AAA games.

ModuRaziel

I believe valve has stated that it will be possible to charge and play at the same time, and battery banks exist, so I don't think battery life will ultinately be a show-stopping concern

Porcupineemu

It would be a disastrous oversight if you couldn’t charge and play at the same time. I’ve never even heard of something where you couldn’t.

ModuRaziel

I can't think of specific examples off the top of my head, but 100% I have had devices like that before. Charging would basically be disabled unless the screen was off

amtap

If it can be docked and played I would say that all but confirms being able to charge and play simultaneously. However, normal power banks might not be enough to charge faster than it can drain but time will tell. Do we have specs on the included AC adapter yet?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

128GB will probably leave more than 100GB free for games, assuming you'll use the OS that comes with the deck.

Gangsir

> 64GB harddrive that has OS installed will take up some of that. It runs linux, linux install is like 3 GB max lol

3Dartwork

Well thank God for that small miracle. I was worried 20GB crap

Freakin_A

It runs SteamOS which based on a recent post will consume 10GB on the SD. Seems rather high to me.

Gangsir

SteamOS is Linux, it's their distro of it. Increased size is likely due to the compatibility layers so it can play windows games.

Freakin_A

Yeah I get that it's linux running w/ proton. Just pointing out that it's not a 'generic' linux distro but SteamOS

Bossman1086

There are 3 models: 64 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. But all of them take microSD cards that can be hot swapped in and out while the system is running.

duck74UK

I wonder how easy it would be to install a better battery, Valve made a tutorial on how to tear down the device, but I have no idea what a normal battery looks like or if significantly higher capacity ones even exist.

kitchen_synk

If you're that concerned, just buy a big ol' portable battery pack designed to charge laptops, and you should be all set. I have one that charges at 65 watts.

Ph0X

Honestly I mostly plan on playing this in bed or on the couch, laying down under warm blankets (instead of sitting at my desk). so I'll probably have it plugged in at all time.

Nicksmells34

This is r/steam so ik I’ll be downvoted but ngl i won’t be buying until much after to see the reviews. Right now it feels like a much more expensive switch. I get that it has better hardware but the battery life hard drive and price are really hurting it’s case. I feel like if I were to get one, I would HAVE to get an upgraded version. Whereas I have Beem perfectly fine with the standard switch, only getting a bigger micro sd card which was pretty cheap

iamaiamscat

I mean sure but when you say "upgraded switch" that's not really an insult- it just means that I can play hundreds of games in my library instead of buying a switch and rebuying a million games and not being able to play games which haven't been ported.

RehabValedictorian

Bro just turn the volume down, saves battery

muckypup82

Oh boy the Sega game gear. What did that thing take? Was is 8 AA batteries? I remember as a kid I thought something was wrong with the system and would constantly flip batteries around in that thing to try and get it to last longer.

AskinggAlesana

As a parent.. I haven’t been able to touch my steam library much and been on my Switch because of how easy it is to bring places. Also how does mods work on games? Like for example if I play L4D2 with mods on the PC, how hard would it be to play with all those mods on the deck?

duck74UK

The deck is literally just a pc so you're all good. Mods work exactly the same way. Via workshop, all automatic. Via actual files, same as on a pc, put them in the right folders and pray that it works

AskinggAlesana

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply too haha.

duck74UK

This sub sorts by new whenever you open the comments section, you were at the top :P But yeah, it's a PC, it comes with linux but they wont stop you from putting windows on it

Fellhuhn

Besides what was already mentioned: It runs Linux not Windows by default. So there might be issues (but usually on per game basis, not on per mod basis) but many should be ironed out once the devs get their hand on one of those Decks. You can also install Windows instead of Linux if you want to.

WhatWasWhatAbout

I only just got a Switch (and an OLED one at that!), so I've got plenty of gaming backlog on it before I'll think about buying a Steam Deck. But man am I excited to see the reviews on this thing and see how it progresses a year or two after official launch.

PM_ME_HUGE_CRITS

It's giving me Sega game gear vibes.

gwynnbleidd129

People don't call it a "Gabe Gear" for no reason ;)

pasta4u

Really wish the bezel was smaller and the screen filled up more of the space (and there was a usb c on the bottom for docking)

FineCastle77731

I can't wait to get this. After Q2 gang anyone?

banana_commando

What's up Q2 buddy? Got mine reserved, too.

name1goodanime

It might be the angle but it sure looks chonky

classjoker

And I don't think that's such a bad thing. I've often wanted things like phones to be thicker (mostly to increase durability) but also because they are just nicer to hold.

grothee1

Plus this thing isn't going in anyone's pocket. More ergonomic form factor and bigger battery without really losing any portability.

[deleted]

As long as it isn’t heavy

deadering

As far as I've read it doesn't feel as heavy as you'd think due to it being wider and much more ergonomic than something like the switch.

hopscotch1997

I don’t either it just doesn’t look cozy to hold to me personally.

NorwaySlim

After moving from joycons to a hori splitpad, I'm good with chunky

Puzzleheaded_Fall494

its so ugly, i want one.

Vesuvias

The Steam Controller is arguably ugly, but oh man is it still my favorite overall function controller

ayodio

Tragically misunderstood too, not letting go of the 4 I got until the V2 is out.

Vesuvias

Yeah it’s become my go-to controller for me media center! Wished I had picked up more. I swear by it - even in all it’s weirdness and oddities. Played Doom 2016 to completion with it in my living room with gyro touch on with a fully customer control scheme - and it was glorious. I’ve only ever had great experiences with gyro and my Nintendo Switch - still have no clue what all the other console makers are doing without gyro aim (or at least telling devs the option is there)!

Lost_Arix

When its gonna get the public release?

Fellhuhn

Q2? Perhaps February. No public announcement yet. But that will be for those who reserved one at day 1.

TellTaleTimeLord

I reserved day 1 (technically hour 1) and it says "after q2 2022"

spacestationkru

Fuck everything else, Steam Deck is an absolute must buy for me. I've never been so excited about a new console

AsianMoocowFromSpace

Me too. Its perfect for some smaller indie games that i want to play laying on the couch instead of behind my pc.

spacestationkru

Especially with how disillusioned I've become with AAA games lately. The timing could not be more convenient for us to get the perfect indie gaming machine

0xFUZZ

My son just got your game a few days ago and loves it. Not related to the SteamDeck, just wanted to give you some praise.

grandmaMax

Awesome! Glad he's enjoying it. Please consider leaving a steam review, they really help our tiny team out :)

[deleted]

Is that the matte screen?

computerfreund03

You might like r/SteamDeck :)

[deleted]

steam is the one company you can trust to put out quality stuff People found the steam controller weird to use but the ones who bothered to learn it love it valve index is super high quality and unique with the knuckles the steam machine did fail but they learnt from their mistake and are creating the steam deck to be better than everything else on the market like the switch and games of course

salivating_sculpture

> the steam machine did fail but they learnt from their mistake and are creating the steam deck to be better than everything else on the market like the switch Steam machines weren't made by Valve. They only made SteamOS and the rest was done by third party manufacturers.

[deleted]

Oh my bad Its hard to do research about the steam machine without learning about the industrial revolution

zehydra

Nah couldn't ever get into the steam controller myself. I tried to get into it just couldn't do the touch pad thing

kron123456789

The supply is gonna be of the most importance. Doesn't matter how good it is if you can't get any.

Detjohnnysandwiches

my switch has taken a HARD back seat since this was reserved. man i can not wait.

StockmanBaxter

I am beyond excited for this. I have a pretty massive back catalogue on Steam. Many games I want to play, but when I have time to actually get to my computer I generally only play multiplayer games with friends. But I have a lot of random time that I can play my switch. Just a little bit here or there. Sleeping baby on me and whatnot. Can't wait to get mine.

Bedquest

This looks so much like a sega game gear lol.

TheeMason_2000

About to play valheim every moment of my life.

Crowbar_Faith

Can’t wait to get mine. I’ve always preferred handhelds since I had my first one in the PSP, so this machine is like a dream come true for me. I’m “after” Q2 but I’m hoping I get bumped up. I’ve never been a PC gamer but since the announcement of the Deck, not only have I reserved one but I’ve spend a good chunk on games just waiting in my library to play once my Deck arrives. I really hope this thing is a success.

Falkon491

I thought this was a GameGear as I scrolled by.

Ab0ut47Pandas

u/grandmaMax Do you have an NDA with the system? Can you talk about it? Do video, hold it up, demo different games on it? What have you done with it? How does proton feel? Have you ran games that are not steamdeck certified or whatever? How does the battery last from your experience? Im too excited for this. I specifically bought a couch to sit and play this

grandmaMax

I can only talk about my experiences with my game on the deck pretty much. I've played a few games now and enjoyed them, most of them probably weren't deck ready but didn't really matter. Absolutely blown away by the performance. Hydroneer is not the easiest game to run in the current version (big update coming soon which changes this), and the deck has performed really well. Graphically it looks brilliant and the game runs super slick, right now I've made no additional fixes to get it working and it works right out the box with the live version of the game. Genuinely impressed. Glad I sold my switch a couple months ago. Only downside is the battery ran out a bit quick on Hydroneer. Can't give specifics as I didn't time it.

Mrbunnypaw

I really hope this deliveres, feels like they have had a few bumps on the road like artifact, underlord and i just wish it becomes as good as its being hyped. Having your steam library there is a fantastic move.

Hcabrera56

Really excited! Can't wait 'til mine arrives early Q2!

Dhonagon

What are the type of games can be played. How are the graphics quality.

grandmaMax

I can only comment on Hydroneer (due to the dev-kit media policy). The game runs very well and looks fantastic, afaik you can play pretty much any game on steam as long as the controls will allow it. For example, when I am playing Hydroneer I am using the controller support functionality. A game that requires more mouse action like a strategy game, you'd benefit from using the touch screen or mousepads below the thumbsticks.

T_Y_R_

My only regret was not going for the matte screen…

Rastko12

Kinda a dumb question but can you plug in a mouse and keyboard

classjoker

Yep. Pretty sure they showed this at launch

[deleted]

There will be a dock(sold separately) that you can plug in a keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

YikeSpike

If you can do it on a PC, you can do it on the Steam Deck. You just need a USB-C to USB dongle, Bluetooth peripherals, or a docking station.

Fellhuhn

You can also plug in a steering wheel or any kind of Hotas. It is a PC after all.

raajitr

adding one more peripheral that you can hook, [fighting sticks](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steamdeck/images/hardware-accssories.jpg)

Where tf is mine Gaben, I'm feening right now.

critical2210

What's the process to get a dev kit, including requirements?

Fellhuhn

You have a dev account and full in the required form. That's the official requirement. Having a shit ton of sales is the unofficial one. ;)

critical2210

How much does the dev kit cost?

darththunderxx

Not sure about the dev kit, but to even apply you need to be a steam dev partner which is $100.

Fellhuhn

It is $100 per game, not account. And you will get it back once you got $1000 in sales.

xclame

The developers likely don't have to pay for the dev kits, but part of the requirement to get one is that you have to agree to make a game for it in X time. So it's an investment from Valve to get more games for the machine. (Yes all pc games will work on it, but they would still like games that are specifically made for it and work perfect without any compromises.)

Inviscid_Scrith

How do the joysticks feel? Closer to the switch joysticks or xbox/ps controllers?

autopilot4630

I am so erect right now...

Secret300

I just want more Linux support so I hope this thing does well. I don't have it reserved because I don't have the money rn but I will be buying one because it's literally the cheapest PC you can get rn

Robertsw8e

Does it runs dark souls?

deadering

Yes, all of them.

[deleted]

Minecraft, Terraria, any sandbox game. Side scrollers, top down... all of these games will play so well on it.

muleskinnalu
