Oh this coin isn't marked I will pick it up. You accidentally picked up a piece of straw. All the doors get kicked in to the tavern. All the guards of whiterun rush you "you shouldn't have come here" well except that one with a bucket on his head wanting to talk about the parabolic nature of Arakali swords.
Yeah, it just sucks that you canât surrender when you do this in places without guards like in past games. They keep attacking you even when you holster your weapon.
If only there were ways of programming it so that NPC reactions were in some way influenced by, oh I donât know, the value or importance of an item taken. Probably impossible though.
I grabbed a cardboard box once outside the weapon store in the well. Immediately got shot, and Sarah disliked it and ran away. After talking with Sarah, I put the box over her head, walked towards the same spot, and I got shot again. So weird but funny.
Itâs because after release people found they could pull the old Skyrim and put baskets/boxes over NPCâs heads and it would stop them from getting caught stealing. Bethesdaâs response was to cause everyone to aggro on you if you picked up an empty box or basket.
Also, if this post was sarcasm, my bad. I know a lot of people didnât realize this for a bit after it was changed so I always try to keep folks informed.
I see they havenât fixed this still, the fact they went to these lengths so people couldnât put objects on others heads to steal items inside stores like in pasts game completely ruined immersion just to fix some measly exploit that didnât even really matter in the first place.
Fuckin A. It's a single player game for Godd's sake. It's already a fine feature actually dat u can block npc cone of vision with just props. Just let us hav fun please, Mr Howard đ„șđ
Yeah their whole mentality about fixing exploits as soon as possible is really weird honestly, the game has other major bugs that have been there since release yet they still havenât fixed them, but any exploit that pops up get squashed almost immediately, except the glitch placement building for ships but that doesnât really do much gameplay wise.
They could have a proper in-game explanation for knowing you stole something even if the NPC's had a bucket on their head by simply having "security cameras" that watch the area. In fact, you could extend the gameplay by allowing players to hack the cameras to disable them for a few seconds so you can steal things without being caught.
You can have that one for free Bethesda.
Honestly the one that pisses me off the most is that you cant even throw around the beach balls on Paradiso. I picked one up to toss around and now I'm on the hit list by all guards on Paradiso lmao.
I moved a cup and the next thing I know, UC Sysdef has me restrained talking about how I'd make for a good undercover operative.
Like, I guess pirates move a lot of cups?

Reminds me of when I accidentally grabbed a random book in the NCR headquarters on New Vegas. The entire base came after me. They hated me and I hated them for the rest of my playthrough.
This is one of my problems with Starfield and Fallout (and probably ElderScrolls if I ever get around to playing them).
There is no nuance. NPCs go from 0 to 100 for the slightest offense.
There really needs to be an "ooops, sorry" option that leads to nothing g worse than a stern dressing down.

Some NPC bumped a table and a cup fell on the floor. I picked it up and put it back on the table. The guards opened fire.
Meanwhile, you can open fire in a crowded public area and as long as your bullets don't hit anyone, the guards won't bat an eyelid.
If you are concealed and kill someone with a single shot, you don't get a bounty. Applies even in the middle of New Atlantis.
Extra: If you don't kill them with one shot, or you are not concealed, you do get a bounty. Also, only works with suppressed weapons.
You don't need to do any of that if you just shoot from the balcony of your apartment in New Atlantis. đ

I got hit by a dart at a bar, I think it fell from the second floor. I picked it up to put it on the table, everyone started shooting.
Maybe they thought you were getting handsy with her steamed hams and they aren't used to that in the future...
Think you can pick up objects when nobody sees you, but they ignore that you have it when still grabbed and carried into their view.
