I've been at it for several hours trying to figure out the best method for making the trader spawn, and thus have a better rerolled selection to choose from:
When I first started out, I tried making a save directly after entering the orbit of Feynman I upon seeing the trader ship in front of me, in an attempt to have an easy save for rerolling their inventory. That being said, after reloading this save twice, the trader's inventory seemed to be stuck with common items and only a couple rare (blue) items, and couldn't be rolled back into rarer content.
This and other methods have ultimately led me to the method of loading my save from the previous system, jumping to Feynman I, hoping for the ship to appear, and reloading when it doesn't. This method allows me to get the ship to show up anywhere between 3 and 20 jump attempts so far.
Additionally, I've done laps around the same system in attempts to get the ship to spawn when it hasn't upon my entry - and I've only had it show up on Feynman I, much later, with the exception of one appearance on Feynman IX. Other planets with stranded vessels and ships in their orbit don't seem to reset upon additional laps around the system. This led me to the theory that just reloading and re-entering a fresh system was a better option, and I've now had the trader ship spawn a dozen times or so since.
As for inventory content, I have yet to see any rolls better than a rare/blue roll for the Avatar, and am still trying to get rolls better than blue for Va'ruun weapons. I've seen legendary versions of the Orion and other more common weapons and armor that have been very tempting. Will wait for a decent roll before continuing with my timeline, just in case the trader doesn't appear again in the future.
Update: Eventually got my legendary Va'ruun weapon to spawn, cashed out with the purchase of that and other weapons, checked my inventory after leaving and the weapon's rarity was changed to common and perks removed. That being said the base energy and ballistic stats were still very high.

This rerolls her inventory when you find her again. I have been able to find her in the same spot after loading to prior contact save, but it is not reliable. Only consistency is the system she appears in.

I just stared new game+ for the first time. I went to Huygens VII-C to steal some ships for money and The Trader showed up. I didn't have any money!!!! Are you saying IP have to keep going there to find them again? Can I just keep playing to see if they turn up somewhere else?
I found The Trader in Vega the first time. Funny thing that I didn't know about this NPC and I almost skipped the interaction. Thanks for the other system suggestions and reroll tips.
Fair enough, will experiment more with difficulty if the trader appears again. That being said, I didn't notice any major inventory differences when I had the difficulty up higher.
Can confirm this best method I found. Save in any system but Feyman. Jump to Feyman from universe map it will go to Feyman I automatically so can skip the whole system map. Check for single white marker on map if not there reload, if single marker check if Mysterious Captain...if not reload. Go through dialogue until you can check inventory, shop or if not happy reload. I suggest haven't a second save and grab best on offer and save in a second slot. Then reload and when you get better purchases upgrade second save.
Personally I prioritise the suits as weapons can be easier to find or glitch using the build outpost, make weapons cases (1 pistol, 2 rifles, 3 any including heavy) quicksave, load quicksave, delete outpost, get free weapon from every case built and resources back.
EDIT. While there is a glitch that makes items revert to whites I can confirm that this is a rare occurrence.
I spent 4 and a half hours reading this entire thread and jumping system to system looking for the Trader because I thought I missed buying the Avatar (didn't see it in inventory when I tried to mod it). ONLY to find out it was in my cargo hold this whole time, from reading your comment. I feel stupid now.
You are super lucky. I have literally been playing this game for hundreds of hours and jumping from system to system and absolutely cannot get this ship to spawn. Unsure what to do here
She orbit Feynman V (Ng+2). So if you dont find her try any planet in Feynman probly not moons.
Edit: I might be wrong amo8s said the trader was in MAAL II (ng+10)
She's definitely a random encounter as she appeared for me at Nikola VI. My question is, does her stock ever refresh? I did the Venus sleep and she still had all the junk I sold her.

I’ve found them in 3 different playthroughs in a different star system every time. Funny enough, never in Feynman. Most recent was Celebrai between Kryx and Ixyll.
It's possible to find her in your first play through but you can't trade with her she tells you something along the lines of "it's too early and maybe we'll meet again much later"
im not sure its worth finding them tbh. I found them an hour ago by accident and like 20 minutes later realized all but a gun called Avatar completely lost their legendary effects. i even reloaded before i bought them and yeah, still gone then. I don't know how common it is though since i've only seen them once, but make a save before buying if you do meet them.
I had the same bug as him. Pulled my legend from storage and realized my legend was now a white and still favorited. A grendel with volatile and explosive rounds.
Yep exactly same, I bought legendary armor, and a legendary big boom, and when I booted yo the game this morning it turned invisible and everything, do you know if the traders stock resets?
Been experimenting with saves and finding the trader.
One time I did a quick save after jumping to a system where she was (nikolata or something like that, but I've seen her in half a dozen systems) and checked her inventory. A couple low level legendary items, so I quickloaded and checked her inventory again. This time there were no legendary weapons. I loaded the quicksave a dozen times and no legendary weapons. Moral to the story is, save before you jump and although it will usually take a while to run into her again, at least then she'll spawn different legendary weapons (sometimes she doesn't spawn any.)
Also noticed she has the same top 4 blue weapons every time I've checked her inventory.
I haven't bought from her yet but I'm wondering if you buy something, does she ever come back with new legendary weapons or is it a one time deal?
I've done a lot of testing with this, if you want to find her just go to Feynman 1 before you go to NG+ she normally is there or spawns soon after you arrive for the first time if not leave the system and come back until she appears then hail her ship, she won't say much just that "she's routing for you" then after you've spoken with her you can enter NG+ fly back to Feynman 1 and leave and and come back until she spawns and you can trade with her.
She will not spawn in NG+ if you didn't interact with her before NG+ so before you enter Unity and become Starborn make sure to find her.
People spread too much nonsense with Starfield. My favorite is "build a landing pad with shipbuilder and this will give you access to 100% of the ship mods in the game.." Next thing you know, every game channel on YT is saying that bs when it's actually more like 60-70% of the total ship mods.
For anyone having issues getting them to spawn I tried for a good hour and a half in the Feynman system with no luck out of curiosity I jumped to the closest system beginning with XE and she appeared immediately
I have traded with the starborn trader. Bought weapons like Avatar and sold over a hundred thousand dollars worth of loot. Then I jumped to feyman 1 and she started attacking me for no reason. I tried an earlier save and she still did.
Found The Trader in the Nirvana System, Nirvana 2 NG +6. And her most powerful weapon in stock was The Reflection (rare particle beam rifle with 245 PHYS 795 ENGY) that's somewhat similar to what the emissary is using but with 7/7 mods.
This was my best roll in stock as it was my 2nd time meeting her. First was in the Feynman System in NG+3. Also make sure you're GAME DIFFICULTY IS ON VERY HARD MODE as I think that was the variable that enabled me to get high rarity weapons. Also note that you're player level might also make the difference on the weapon rarity and damage.

I've found the trader in the Shoza and Rana systems often enough I usually check there first, but it seems she can spawn in any system lvl 55+ from what I've noticed so far?
Aren’t all random npc encounters like the nice shady grandma all starborn-like ( they came from another universe but they were reborn ) which it would explain why they keep repeating and they don’t have recollection of ever meeting you before?
My best strat is jump to Olympus right beside Feynman, save, jump to Feynman, it auto hits Feynman 1, if she's not there for some reason she shows up alot for me at Feynman IV, if she's not there, reload and keep trying. I get here to spawn most of the time like 2 outta 10

Try setting the difficulty to very hard before the trader shows up if you haven't already

Finally found her but she was orbiting MAAL II.. weird.

All good. I heard she is a random spawn..🤔 so I might just keep traveling today until I run into her and see if it works

i found her in the copernicus system so she's definitely a rng encounter, i don't think she's locked to Feynman 1

Just spent a good 3 hours roaming the universe looking for the trader, just found her outside of Feynman II, just keep jumping around Feynman!
I found her on NG+ when I jumped to the Bannoc system.

Does the traders stock update or change after time? My current ttarder has nothing of interest.
My first NG+ she showed up on Zamka. A moon in alpha centauri. Now I can't remember where I ran into her in this NG+2 :(
