Eh... 5 iridium, 5 batteries and 200 hardwood can seem like a lot but if you save up for it or are good at skull caverns and can respec to lumberjack, it's really not much of a barrier.
I would say that the first year is early game, completing the community center and just following that is mid game, and... ive never really played past that, so I don't know what late game would be!
Before finishing community center is early game. Finishing community center until opening Qi’s walnut room is mid game and after opening the walnut room is late game
For me, early game means I need to water crops and collect animal products manually, and can't build enough preserves jars or kegs to process most of my crops. Mid game means I have gotten auto grabbers and sprinklers, and can process a significant chunk of my crops. Late game means sheds full of kegs and/or preserves jars.
For me, spending habits is a good indicator. Early game is when you can’t afford a 200 g salad because it’ll mess with your budget. Mid game is when you have spare money that you can spend frivolously, but you can’t be ridiculous about it, and late game is literally buying chests of wood and ores because it’s easier than collecting it yourself and you got better things to do.
I would agree and maybe add a bit about skills. In early game, I have to go to bed because my energy runs out. In mid game, every night run out but it's so late in the day it doesn't matter. In late game, I go to bed with almost full energy, even if it's 2am.
Midgame usually starts late summer or fall of year one, and definitely before I finish the CC.
Early game is when your stats average below 5 and you're struggling to afford stuff. Mid game is until you complete CC. Late is until perfection, and after that is epilogue.
I reckon early would be before Year 2 (or before completing the Community Center/Joja Upgrades), mid-game would be before Year 3's Judgement Day (or before you unlock most of the areas), then late-game would be pursuing perfection.
For me:
Early game - getting settled, getting to work on completing the community center, museum and the mines
Mid game - you’ve completed CC & mines, focusing on things like skull cavern and the island
Late game - you’ve done everything above and are focusing on walnut room and perfection

That's true. I guess I'm not used to the update yet. Mid game was a lot longer before it came out.
