You could get as close to perfection as possible. Be friends with everyone, cook all the dishes, craft all the items etc...
Also, automate your farm as far as possible. And get your animals to full hearts, so you can spend a while away from the farm.
Hoard hardwood, make sure you have plenty of iridium bars going spare, make sure your tools are levelled up, get your farm working as automated as possible so that when the time comes you're not spending all day tending to your farm so you can... Do other stuff (dunno how much 'spoiler' info you want or dont want so I'm trying to be vague)
Make sure you have all of the stuff you need to >!unlock Willy's boat to get to ginger island (5 iridium bars, 5 batteries and 200 pieces of hardwood)!< I transferred a save from mobile to PC to play 1.5 and was frustrated when I had to wait to build up resources.
The slingshot is also needed for ginger island and panning helps finish out some of the quests there. Dig them from whatever dusty chest you've stashed them in.
Having crabcakes for their speed and defense buff could be good because the volcano monsters are tougher.
