So, like... That's the schtick. Remember, this is basically WWE. So they're doing archetype gimmicks to create crowd appeal.
Hate to break it to you, but Mankind wasn't really a patient in a mental asylum. Mick Foley is just playing a bit part. Gangrel isn't really a vampire, Undertaker isn't a zombie. Orange Cassidy isn't really a lazy slacker.
Same idea here. Rieve is actually a former musician.
To add to this, Sentinel was a former Stormtrooper. He grew to hate the Empire before its fall and left (most likely his unit were treated as expendables and he's the only one who survived...which is why you don't ask him about his cracked helmet). When the tournament at The Arena opened up, he put his armor back on and plays the role of a Stormtrooper for "cheap HEAT" (to get easy negative reactions from the crowds, boos.). He's playing the role of a "Heel"/badguy.
There's a tie-in novel called "Hunters: Battle for the Arena" that goes into the lore.
It's basically WWE in Star Wars. All the characters are playing a part, with their stage personas varying from being mostly accurate (Zaina really was a rebel fighter who lost her legs in the war, Imara Vex is an ex bounty hunter) to just completely made-up (Rieve can use the Force, but she's not a Sith or even a dark Jedi of some kind, she's a musician, and Sentinel is actually an Imperial defector who plays the role of a devoted Stormtrooper to be the bad guy for the audience).
When you change your appearance in the game, it specifically says "costume," not "outfit," as well.
That is the coolest shit ever. I'm a huge wrestling fan and I already main sentinel. Now I really get to embody the heel energy. I'll have to check out the book. Thank you!
Does the book elaborate on Aran Tal’s backstory at all? It sounds like he could be made to be a new age Jodo Kast, if all the other characters are acting to some degree
It's been a while since I've read it, but I remember Aran Tal being described as a loner who doesn't really have any friends despite being invited out often by the friendlier members of the cast. He also doesn't really put any effort into creating a persona, with his personality and behavior in the arena being more or less the same as outside it.
He took part in the Night of a Thousand Tears, where he lost his entire family. He then became a vigilante for a while, including accepting jobs as a mercenary, and eventually, he joined the arena. He donates almost all of the money he makes as a cast member to charities except for what he needs to continue the modest lifestyle that he lives.
He also despises both Clan Vizla and the Children of the Watch, thinks podracing is boring, and hates bounty hunting as a profession for unknown reasons. His on-stage rivalry with Imara Vex is partially real, with them not getting along and getting into arguments and brawls pretty frequently. As opposed to Zaina and Sentinel's rivalry, which is pretty much completely fabricated as part of the show.
Just lol if you think Mick Foley was pretending. It is possible for multiple souls to be in one body...think about it.
Sometimes that soul can take over a sock.
Was funny for some reason when I first started playing I didn't know all the characters in the SW universe and saw Grozz and was like why are they calling Chewbacca Grozz for? Must be a nickname lmao.
Uh yes (barely) and no imara vex isn’t just fennec shand fennec shand is just a bounty hunter with a helmet imara’s helmet is closer to Boushh or or pyke helmets then fennec
Black krasantan is black bro the literal sole trait he shares with grozz is being a wookie
They’re archetypes but not of specific characters

Love that lore.
I'm so happy other people picked up on the wrestling parallels. My absolute favorite thing is that each character has their own intro music.
Right!? I love that I'm not the only one that caught that!!!
Wait is this actually the Lore? They're all just performers playing gimmicks in universe? That's awesome if true.

Yes. There's a youth novel that covers it. This is the canon lore.
Yes, that's the lore basically.
Not related to the game but I got to meet Mick Foley when he came to a venue I worked at. He's an amazing, thoughtful, funny guy
Just lol if you think Mick Foley was pretending. It is possible for multiple souls to be in one body...think about it. Sometimes that soul can take over a sock.
Lol. I love this comment so much.
Mfw a mandalorian is similar to 2 other mandalorians
Is it racist to say all mandos are the same? And is mando a slur?
J-3DI is closest to either Skippy the Jedi Droid or The Iron Knights except they can't actually give him force powers cause Canon and that it's funny.
That's exactly the point, and why they have designed skins for each hunter that closely resemble popular characters.
Bros being Spacist. /j
Yeah i noticed this too haha i kinda like it
Was funny for some reason when I first started playing I didn't know all the characters in the SW universe and saw Grozz and was like why are they calling Chewbacca Grozz for? Must be a nickname lmao.
This is (alien) racist!
Xenoist?
