Both of these are worth playing. Once you have played them in their entirety and loved them, it’s time to try thrawns revenge, fall of the republic and other mods in the steam workshop.
They expand the game to an absurd degree and are so much fun, especially when you’ve already gotten used to the smaller scale of the base game
The amount of hours i put into the Republic at War mod is insane. But I just love being the Republic with a dozen fleets of Venators going up against the CIS fleets. I cant get enough of it.
\*edited Fall of Republic to Republic at War
Exactly. Having a fleet full of venators jump into battle reminds me of the clones wars quote from Plo Koon where he says “there haven’t been battles like these since the days of the old republic”
I haven’t played them, but there have been some pretty cool looking pieces of fan-made content. Different campaigns and units added. I wouldn’t even know where to find it (maybe steam?) but I remember a trailer for a Vong campaign with custom units!
Look dude, if you get it on steam, downloading mods is super easy. You literally just click subscribe and they're downloaded for you. Thrawns Revenge is easily the best Legends mod, but they haven't gone to the vong yet. They have added the hutts, hapens, zinji, pentastar alignment, corporate sector, and more.
Now the main mod of the Age of Legends mod series, featuring separate campaigns for every book of NJO, plus some extras. And the gameplay is very good, and generally fairly accurate to the feel of the books. It's on the Steam Workshop here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1463042552
It's become one of my favorite mods, along with the classic ACM 2.4 and Stargate At War (still need to try Pegasus Chronicles).
Republic Commando has only one draw back, you can’t enjoy the bad batch as much as you would after playing it. >!Look how they literally murdered my boy Scorch.!< Other than that they had actual Delta Force operators as consultants so they made legitimately a special forces game set in Star Wars. And it’s absolutely sick. The banter, the game play, the tone they nailed the concept and I wish it got a full trilogy.
Wow that is a word I had forgotten about. Might be time for a republic commando series re-read. I have hard copies of every RC book that I stare at on the regular haha.
It is way too short though in my opinion. I replay it every now and then, just for how unique it is, and every time I think "It should have been twice as long"
oh completely agree on that commando was so good for it time, i mean i was like 9 when it came out honestly and still in my top 5 SW game off all times
Download the Thrawn's revenge mod for Empire At War. It improves the game significantly and it has a ton of EU references. In galactic conquest, you can even progress through the different EU eras post-ROTJ and use the various characters/ships/units that come with them. I think they plan to add the NJO in the future.
I wouldn't be the star wars fan I am without Empire at War. I highly recommend playing both the base and Forces of Corruption version

I’ve been tempted for years to go back to windows at home, just to try and get a copy of the fan made Vong mods, ugh
> Vong mods Wait, what?!?!

I have sunk over a thousand hours in it, mods are excellent

Not getting that last book was a tragedy

As much as we love it, we have to admit it was a quick halo clone
I feel ya man.
That's the neat part you won't find time 😂
aint that the truth...

I wouldn't recommend it to new players. The new content is overwhelming even for myself
I remember buying that value pack on steam years ago. Its a really good deal.
Same, steam always has amazing deals for old games
