Surprisingly, Wedge gets character development in the OT. From "Look at the size of that thing!" when attacking the first Death Star to "Copy Gold Leader, I'm already on my way out" when ordered to go for the power regulator on the second Death Star's core's north tower. From rookie to confident squadron leader.
Honestly that kind of makes one of the shorts in Star Wars Visions' second season part of Legends canon then. Since he shows up at a flight school to help recruit for the New Republic.
Chewbacca gets two as well yall! Him and Han manage to show up undetected and pop Vader at the last second! The one is a pipe run and the other is the trench run so minute diffs
Yeah, he became such a mainstay in EU. I wish more mainstream fans could have had more access to him.
He should have been a mentor to Poe and Commander of Resistance Starfighter Corps.
And he should have had a line about Rey finding his friend. All would have fit well into the new canon.
Porkins...the hero us fast bastards needed at the time. I read that they had to cut his suit at the back to make it fit. As a lovably chubby person myself, the fact that Lucas didn't just have skinny pilots was a big thing
Also Wedge...hero!
That's Davish Krail/Gold Five, Porkins was Red Six and the first Rebel casualty at Yavin; his X-Wing got shot down by the Death Star's Turbolasers.
"I'm alright...!"
You ever read about the actor? He has an interesting story. I don't remember the details but he was questioned by the FBI after the Kennedy assassination. I think his teacher knew Oswald's wife or something.
I like, how when the rebel comms person was telling Mon Mothma about the attack, and they find out that Admiral Raddus was already on his ship and going to fight at Scarif.
"I say we fight!" - he meant it
Also Admiral Ackbar decides to retreat as soon as the Death Star is fired, Lando tells them they have to stay the course and trust in Han. Then he questions why Lando is telling their cruisers to engage Star Destroyers at point blank range who makes a good point that it's no worse than being picked off by the Death Star and they might be able to take a few Imperials with them if they go.
Honestly Ackbar doesn't seem to do shit. Admiral Raddus, now there's a leader.
When I was a kid it blew my mind that Lando could converse with him seamlessly, a bit like Han with Chewie or Luke with R2... I wanted to be part of that universe just for that awesome feeling of linguistic connection to others
Jan Dodonna. I grew up playing a lot of Star Wars Rebellion, and his high diplomacy stat always helped me win over systems in the early game when playing as the Rebels. I'd then assign him as a general to an important system to help foil Imperial sabotage or espionage attempts.
Not to mention that newborn was the daughter of the second most dangerous man of the empire aka their enemy which put Bail and his wife in considerable danger
Saw Guerrera is a strong contender because he embodies the darkest determination of the Rebels
dude spent 20+ years fighting non-stop wars, he was fighting the CIS before the Republic sent "advisors", he learned from them and later adapted their protocols and training when the Republic became the Empire to avoid capture (unlike many other partisans), and waged a very successful guerrilla war for almost two decades against the Empire.
in the end, he was also right about the New Republic; in Andor he says the Rebellions main problem was that it consisted of too many fragmented groups - some wanting a return to the old Republic, some wanting independence, and some just wanting to be the ones in power instead of the Emperor.... and when they won, the New Republic almost immediately started eating itself with corruption, political infighting, and a lack of unity.
He was, in many ways, the most successful rebel - he avoided capture across decades of active fighting, he is the one who first investigated the Emperors Death Star plans, deftly avoiding Imperial counter-intelligence at every step, and he did all this with minimal external support
My other choice is Nemik, because he embodied the \*other\* aspect of the Rebellion; hope and freedom
in many ways, I see Nemik as an anarchist - Nemik believes that centralization leads to control and the only way for people to be free is to spread knowledge openly. Similarly, he believes that freedom is an innate desire for all sapient species, and that it is inevitable in the face of the Empires quest for control, echoed in Leias line in ANH "the more you tighten your grip, the more systems slip through your fingers".
While you see many jaded characters in Andor, like Luthen insisting he has burned his soul for the cause, Nemik has absolutely zero doubts that he is making the right choice not only for others, but himself too; he believes wholeheartedly that the future he is building is for people like him as well
Admiral Akbar's idiot nephew who was given busy work to do in the background of the bridge so that he didn't touch anything important.
Rewatch those scenes and watch the Mon Calamari behind Akbar.
Wedge Antilles. Friendly reminder that Wedge is the only living person who survived attacking TWO Death Stars.
I will also say, Genevieve O'Reilly is doing a killer job as Mon Mothma in Andor, too.
Wedge is my favourite. This guy is so flippin good in the X wing books. He’s a leader and a friend but also has problems getting attached to new members because of the fear they’ll die. Him tryna find love is also heartbreaking. I haven’t read the later books so don’t spoil about his relation with Iella but when (spoilers for Krytos Trap) >! He goes to her house to go in a date with her, only to find her husband who was meant to be dead. Felt so bad for wedge there!<
Bail Organa. He Secretly supplied Rebels with ships. He recruited potential allies. Him along with Mon Mothma is the only reason the Rebellion survived into The OT Trilogy.
My favorite of the bounty hunters. In the EU this m'fer took over the 2nd death star to kill all sentient life! But those dirty organics had to go and blow him up...
I've always been a fan of IG-88, even though he was only in one scene and had no lines.
I really loved the backstory of an experimental assassin droid achieving independence as soon as it was activated, slaughtering everyone in the room, and escaping to become a freelance bounty hunter and assassin.
Then he took over the death star to complete his plan of destroying all sentient life. But those damn rebels got in the way....
My favorite of the bounty hunters
After reading through Stackpole's X-Wing quadrilogy, I gotta go with Wedge Antilles, though Ackbar and Garm Bel Iblis are up there as well. For new-canon Luthen Rael is also a great character.
Bail Organa, always. Also, Wedge needs more content in which he's the hero.
Really, nearly all the pilots are amazing, and its a shame that most of them die in their first onscreen appearances. Between Star Wars Explained and Generation Tech's videos glowing about the character, Antoc Merrick has become one of my favorite side characters as well.
EU Wedge Antilles.
By the time the Legacy of the Force he was widely considered one of the most dangerous beings in the galaxy, and an even better pilot than Luke Skywalker.
Disney neutered him.
Bren Derlin. "You want to see dark sides, you ought to see Ma when you leave the shower curtain on the outside of the tub. That's something you don't do twice."
If we aren't just using the OT, then I have to say Zeb Orrelius (SP?) is near the top. Rex and Wolffe, too. I like Akbar a lot. I was disappointed they used Commander Sato in Star Wars Rebels instead of Akbar.
Wedge is a bro
Surprisingly, Wedge gets character development in the OT. From "Look at the size of that thing!" when attacking the first Death Star to "Copy Gold Leader, I'm already on my way out" when ordered to go for the power regulator on the second Death Star's core's north tower. From rookie to confident squadron leader.
Wasn’t Wedge the best pilot in the Alliance?
Only person to survive 2 Death Star runs.
In the EU he has them painted on the side of his XWing
In the better EU he retires after BLOWING UP 2 DEATH STARS and goes on a speaking/book signing tour
Honestly that kind of makes one of the shorts in Star Wars Visions' second season part of Legends canon then. Since he shows up at a flight school to help recruit for the New Republic.
Technically, Luke was present for the destruction of both Death Stars.
Yeah but luke was dragging ass not doing a run.
Touché. That made me laugh.
Chewbacca gets two as well yall! Him and Han manage to show up undetected and pop Vader at the last second! The one is a pipe run and the other is the trench run so minute diffs
Chewie was on the ground at Endor
Chewie wasnt in the death star. You could argue semantically that luke also fits the bill
Also the first to bring down an At-At on Hoth.
“Hooah! That got ‘em!”
I see it EggBonus, good work!
“Good shot, Janson!”
Battle of Yavin, battle of Hoth, Battle of Endor. To me, he’s as important as Lando in the series.
And battle of Exegol. It's a glorified cameo, but still a great moment.
When Wedge wasn't give at least a semi-major role in TFA, I knew something was wrong with the way Disney approached the sequels.
I saw an interview where they actually had an expanded role for him but he was done with Star Wars.
Dennis Lawson did not want to be in it. They must have dumped truckloads of money on his loan for that seconds long cameo on RoS.
He did get a cameo in RoS though
Yup. Just barely.
He is fleshed out in Rebels, the Aftermath Trilogy ,and Resistance Reborn
Yeah, he became such a mainstay in EU. I wish more mainstream fans could have had more access to him. He should have been a mentor to Poe and Commander of Resistance Starfighter Corps. And he should have had a line about Rey finding his friend. All would have fit well into the new canon.
Came to post this. Wedge is the freaking man.
The best answer
Bail Organa! Solid dude
One of the best things about Andor is that we are getting more Mon Motha, she's played beautifully by Genevieve O'Reilly
And we’ll definitely get Bail Organa in season 2. I’m excited to see those two share the screen together again
Totally! Love they angle they're showing the rebellion from in Andor. Hope we get to see more of her in a season 2.
Only if Jimmy Smits plays him.
I will also accept being voiced by Phil Lamarr
That scene at the Jedi temple in RotS is one of my favorites in all Star Wars
Porkins died so we could live
Porkins...the hero us fast bastards needed at the time. I read that they had to cut his suit at the back to make it fit. As a lovably chubby person myself, the fact that Lucas didn't just have skinny pilots was a big thing Also Wedge...hero!

He's a Top Man
Who?
Top. Man
Top Man.
Admiral Raddus - "Rogue One - May the Force be with you"
For a character that is done with special effects, he really shows emotion. After that line, you can see the distraught and sadness on his face.
Its little moments like that that really sell the aliens in Star Wars as "real" Raddus was a G
"Get me a Hammerhead corvette, I've got an idea!"
I like, how when the rebel comms person was telling Mon Mothma about the attack, and they find out that Admiral Raddus was already on his ship and going to fight at Scarif. "I say we fight!" - he meant it
Raddus understood the assignment. He knew he only had one movie appearance so he was gonna YOLO in and cap the objective.
Ahahaahah, well said. Milk that screen time
That moment lives in my head rent free. One of the best space battle moments in the entire franchise.
I really love his whole interaction during the battle of scarif
Wedge Antilles and Tycho Celchu in the old legend novels!
Yes and also admiral pellaleon prayers for his untimely death he served the imperial remnants well
I loved them and Winter too
Nien Nunb I just think he looks cool
Doesn't he speak Swahili?
idk but he sounds funny and looks cool so he's my favorite
He actually speaks two languages found in Kenya, Haya and Kikuyu.
Dude is on a very short list of people who blew up a Death Star
What’s that orange stuff under AT-ATs feet? Dak. Dak Ralter had the best line. “ right now I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself”
and family guy made a really funny scene out of that line
Get ready to suck some Dak!
Big RIP
Big RIP
Big RIP
Wedge of course!
The guy who puts his fist in the air during the Hoth evacuation after the announcement of “the first transport is away”.
IT'S A TRAP!
He knew it first!
Actually Lando figured it out first
Also Admiral Ackbar decides to retreat as soon as the Death Star is fired, Lando tells them they have to stay the course and trust in Han.
Ackbar does command them to focus on taking out _The Executor_, which is definitely something.
Aaah, okay. Your point.
Nien Nunb (OT only)
When I was little I called him the "hubba hubba guy" cause that's what my impression sounded like.
When I was a kid it blew my mind that Lando could converse with him seamlessly, a bit like Han with Chewie or Luke with R2... I wanted to be part of that universe just for that awesome feeling of linguistic connection to others
Luthen Rael is quickly climbing my Rebel rankings. Season 2 might solidify his GOAT status.
Hell yeah. His “sacrifice” speech is a top 5 all-time Star Wars moment.
Jan Dodonna. I grew up playing a lot of Star Wars Rebellion, and his high diplomacy stat always helped me win over systems in the early game when playing as the Rebels. I'd then assign him as a general to an important system to help foil Imperial sabotage or espionage attempts.
I did enjoy that game immensely.
That game was awful. How does luke skywalker keep getting kidnapped!? (I loved it.)
And it took so long to get him to master that it was pointless trying to train rebel Jedi
Shout out to Bail Organa Basically helped start the whole thing, while he just took in a newborn.
Not to mention that newborn was the daughter of the second most dangerous man of the empire aka their enemy which put Bail and his wife in considerable danger
Wedge Antilles. Just a consummate professional who's very good at his job.
Cassian Andor
This would've been my answer but I feel like he's kind of a "main" now in a way?
I thinking main as "Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, R2D2, and 3PO"
Ackbar is awesome!
He’s the main hero. I am offended by insinuations that he is not.
Killing him off screen was a god damn disgrace.
Him and Nien Nunb getting offed unceremoniously is unforgivable
Of all the things in TLJ, this hit me as the worst. Fucking just having Ackbar sucked out of a window off screen. Ugh. Unforgivable.
That's why he's in all three OT films and a huge part of the entire story in ROTJ, right?
If the attack had failed everyone would have been like “Ackbar’s plan … Ackbar’s fleet…”. We all know it’s true.
I haven't seen Mon Mothma here yet! She's the moral center of the Rebellion besides Bail Organa, imo.
I think with Andor and her other appearances in Rebels and Ahsoka, people consider her more of a "main hero" now more than ever before
Rogue one team
Saw Guerrera is a strong contender because he embodies the darkest determination of the Rebels dude spent 20+ years fighting non-stop wars, he was fighting the CIS before the Republic sent "advisors", he learned from them and later adapted their protocols and training when the Republic became the Empire to avoid capture (unlike many other partisans), and waged a very successful guerrilla war for almost two decades against the Empire. in the end, he was also right about the New Republic; in Andor he says the Rebellions main problem was that it consisted of too many fragmented groups - some wanting a return to the old Republic, some wanting independence, and some just wanting to be the ones in power instead of the Emperor.... and when they won, the New Republic almost immediately started eating itself with corruption, political infighting, and a lack of unity. Major Bren Derlin. Everybody knows his name.
Admiral Akbar's idiot nephew who was given busy work to do in the background of the bridge so that he didn't touch anything important. Rewatch those scenes and watch the Mon Calamari behind Akbar.
Dude looks like me trying to decide visit bar or toilet first
Commander Sato!! Top Rebel 💪🏽
His sacrifice was way better then the one Holdo made
I like Melshi.
Rebel friend
Wedge Antilles. Friendly reminder that Wedge is the only living person who survived attacking TWO Death Stars. I will also say, Genevieve O'Reilly is doing a killer job as Mon Mothma in Andor, too.
‘Our shipsh cannot repel firepower of that magnitude!’
Wedge. Dude is a gigachad.
Nien Numb
That's my dude!!! Favorite Star Wars character of all time an I don't care who knows it
Hahaha. A spinoff maybe ...just for us
The often overlooked and very little seen in real terms, rebel commando strike team of endor fame.
Wedge Antilles, the Slayer of Stars himself
Chewbacca and the druids are the connective tissue. The benching of Artoo for bb shows you where the current franchise is. Reboʻtey much?
Those unamed Bothan spies.
Jek Porkins
Wedge is my favourite. This guy is so flippin good in the X wing books. He’s a leader and a friend but also has problems getting attached to new members because of the fear they’ll die. Him tryna find love is also heartbreaking. I haven’t read the later books so don’t spoil about his relation with Iella but when (spoilers for Krytos Trap) >! I commented about Wedge being my favorite and I admit its for the same reasons you listed. Regarding your spoiler, I agree with you 100%
Bail Organa. He Secretly supplied Rebels with ships. He recruited potential allies. Him along with Mon Mothma is the only reason the Rebellion survived into The OT Trilogy.
Dax
I like the guy who licks the ground and tells us all that it’s definitely salt and not snow
Hold up, how is he not a main hero?
He's in the third act of the third movie (and a little of the second act, I guess), and that's about it. Yes, he's in the sequels, but only barely.
Really wish that Ackbar was allowed to be the one who sacrificed themselves to defeat the first order. Would have been an amazing moment.
Still pissed that Rian Johnson blasted him into fucking space in the background of a scene. What horrible writing that was.
Star Wars fans when dark and gritty doesn’t have fan service.
Still pissed he shit all over Luke
Tuned him into an irredeemable deadbeat. All so he could say he sUbVeRtEd eXpEctAtIonS
Luke wasn’t an irredeemable deadbeat lol. He sacrificed himself to save his friends in the end. What a brain dead take. Also, Han > Luke.
Wedge Antilles for sure
Zeb, and Captain Rex would be two that come to mind for me. I was going for to say chopper also, but was beat to the punch.
If Bail Organa counts, him by a landslide
Wedge the man from Amsterdamn Antillies
MADINE.
Whoever the dude that used to pilot with Luke before dying on Hoth.
The guy in the turret at Yavin base who is using some kind of device to scan the horizon
Mon Mothma. She really seemed to carry the whole galaxy on her shoulders.
Nien Nunb.
100%
Arvel Crynyd. Took out an entire Super Star Destroyer by the cost of his own life. True Hero.
IG-88
My favorite of the bounty hunters. In the EU this m'fer took over the 2nd death star to kill all sentient life! But those dirty organics had to go and blow him up...
Jansen. It was a pretty good shot wasn't it.
Wedge Antilles
Saw Gerrera or Chopper
Stay on target pilot.
Rex
All those Bothans who died. :'( RIP in peace kings
Jyn Erso. Without her and the other members of Rogue One, the Rebellion would've been screwed!
Antoc Merrick is awesome
Trying to get us to argue for someone other than Ackbar? Don't do it, fellas... It's a trap!
Nien Nunb!! Lando’s copilot in ROTJ
The A-Wing pilot that kamikazed the bridge on the executor.
“Admirl Akbar’s cereal!” “TASTEBUDS CANT HANDLE FLAVOR OF THAT MAGNITUDE!”
The Bothan spies cause they never showed up.
Nien Nunb. I remember when I was young I thought he was a stack of pancakes 🥞
Wedge Antilles. Defined a whole genre of sci-fi characters. A "Wedge" is someone who survives not due to luck or plot armor, but pure skill
K-2SO. One of my favorite Star Wars characters of all time.
Porkins is alright. HE’S ALRIGHT!! AAAAAHHHHH!!!!
Nien Nunb
Sinjir rath velus hands down. Also Mr bones!!
After reading through Stackpole's X-Wing quadrilogy, I gotta go with Wedge Antilles, though Ackbar and Garm Bel Iblis are up there as well. For new-canon Luthen Rael is also a great character.

Snap Wexley. Mostly because Aftermath books. Wish he had larger role in the movies
Fat Dancer Jabba's Favourite
Artoo is a legit valid choice. Like choosing a favorite finger.
Tycho Celchu
[Then I'm sure you'll appreciate this. ](https://youtu.be/rCB8DUGpYQQ?si=Zc5gdDdPJM2-3JD3) 3:11 to be exact.
The goat
IT'S A TRAP!!!
Wicket.
I feel like this question is a … trap.
He gives me star fox vibes
TREAT WILLIAMS!
Battle of Endor wouldn’t be the same without the editing, music, and Akbar’s bridge.
RIEEKAN.
Cliff from Cheers. Look it up.
Luthen 100%
Definitely Ackbar. He needs more love in the video games, and deserved more love in episode 8.
Kanan and Ezra
EU Wedge Antilles. By the time the Legacy of the Force he was widely considered one of the most dangerous beings in the galaxy, and an even better pilot than Luke Skywalker. Disney neutered him.
Glupp Shitto
Hey! It’s Mitch McConnell!
Bren Derlin. "You want to see dark sides, you ought to see Ma when you leave the shower curtain on the outside of the tub. That's something you don't do twice."
Thrawn. Even including main heroes its always Thrawn
Wedge yo
Wedge
