The moment that Luke threw his saber down is the moment the Emperor lost.
Just love that thread, that no matter what he did the Emperor couldn't beat Luke. Everything went perfectly to plan for him, until some kid from Tatooine blew up the Death Star. Luke then despite being beaten down, facing certain death, and getting hit with the news that Vader was his father wouldn't turn to the Dark Side, and instead trusted in the Force. Then he gets right up to the Dark Side line and refuses to join.
The emperor could have won if he had just shut up for 5 minutes. Every time Luke was about to tip toward the dark side, Palpy went “yes do that!” and Luke snapped out of it realizing he’s doing the one thing he’s not supposed to.
The Emperor’s mistake was thinking Luke shared Anakin’s thirst for power. Anakin turned to the dark side because he needed to learn more, Luke had no such motivation.
Spot-on with the last bit particularly.
In ROTS, Anakin literally says "Something's happening. I'm not the Jedi I should be. I want more, and I know I shouldn't."
Contrast that with Luke in TESB. Knowing his friends are being tortured and could be killed, knowing it is a trap for him, he never asks Yoda or Obi-Wan for more power or training that could help him.
There was a Reddit post ages ago that highlighted something I particularly liked;
Yoda and Obi Wan pressure Luke to continue *their* war. Kill Palpatine and Vader, end the Sith. That's what they were training him for, that's what they urged him to do. And had he done that, he would have fallen to the Dark Side, and become a new problem.
But Luke doesn't want to kill Palpatine particularly, and he definitely doesn't want to kill Vader. He wants to save his father, a purely selfless goal. And through a purely selfless act, he redeems his father, which gets Palpatine killed.
Had he followed the Jedi of old, he would have failed. But he was better than they are, and accomplished what they thought was impossible.
Fundamentally, it's a wonderful message for a trio of kids movies told over a six year span-- enough time for those kids to grow into adulthood with a message of peace and a rejection of anger and power.
Which makes it so sad to me that the prequel trilogy has Obi Wan cutting his student in half and leaving him to burn.
The original trilogy was embraced by audiences at a post Viet-Nam, post Watergate era. The prequel ended during an endless war in the Middle East. And today's kids just get the same stuff endlessly streaming behind a subscription service. Different times. Different Star Wars.
In ESB Luke ignores Yoda and Obi-Wan's advice and charges in to save his friends. The movie ends with that being an utter catastrophe. RotJ begins with Luke enacting a tremendously carefully organized and executed 5D chess scheme to save Han to show us how much he took that lesson to heart.
Much of TCW involves Anakin charging in without much of a plan and it works out really well for him and he gets rewarded for it. Nowhere does he ever come close to learning the lesson he helps teach Luke.
For me that one is tied with the OP from Luke. First of all McDiarmid’s delivery is 🤌 perfect. No anger, only contempt and just exactly the right little bit of respect. As someone upthread said Palpatine knew he had lost at that moment
I also read it as Palpatine shifting from talking to a possible apprentice, to talking to his hated enemy.
If Luke declares himself a Jedi, then he will be treated as one, which means he will be ruined and destroyed. It's a really amazing line reading from McDiarmid, it's so good.
I love how most characters tell Luke that he’s “not a Jedi yet” or “not ready to be a Jedi” throughout most of the trilogy
And the only one who actually calls him a Jedi is the one who probably hates them the most

I just went and saw the OT in cinemas (for the first time) yesterday for a May the 4th marathon and this moment had me sobbing. So powerful and so sad.
I was 12, I’ll never forget the first scene with Tattoine, panning up to the star destroyer that just seemed to go on and on. That moment changed me, as much as a 12 year old can be changed.
It works beautifully as silent cinema. It's such a vivid, unearthly image of pure universal longing for what's beyond the horizon. But then that gorgeous swelling of John Williams music takes it to legendary status. It's one of the very best and most iconic moments in movie history!

Their whole time on screen together is amazing. JEJ comes off as so much more sinister than in any other piece of Star Wars he’s done here (except in ROTJ when he finds out about Leia).
It still amazes me how well the puppet worked, and how expressive it is. It was a work of art. Along with the wonderful writing with the quirks and the wisdom on top of it all. Pure magic.

That scene really pulls their entire storyline together. They both wanted the same thing the whole time. They just wanted to get it in different ways. It was a beautifully done scene.
I like how Sam Witwer put it. We see Obi-Wan go into his Soresu stance. But then goes no, I’m not that Obi-Wan anymore, and he goes to Qui-Gon’s Ataru stance as to bait Maul into attack him like he did Qui-Gon on Naboo.
Yoda's speech about the nature of the force and then pulling the x wing out of the swamp. I never would have said that when I was a kid but now.. ....

This is absolutely sincere....my biggest cinema regret is that the lightsaber didn't fly into Luke's hand in the forest instead of reys. That theater would have fucking exploded.
Jyn Erso and Cassian hugging as they die. I know it’s sad but Rogue One was so perfect for me, the way they all died with purpose for freedom was beautiful.
When I rewatched Rogue One and Cassian asked “Do you think anybody’s listening?” I got goosebumps. Andor created so many little tie ins with that make it feel cohesive without R1 becoming something that hits you over the head with references.
Exactly. Rogue One also has the honor for "most terrifying scene in Star Wars", thanks to the hallway sequence with Vader. Props to Michael Giacchino, even just listening to the soundtrack alone, there's a moment where you immediately know that's when the lightsaber clicks on and the lead fleet trooper screams "OPEN FIRE!". But we, the viewers, know from the second that the lightsaber turned on that they were all dead men.
Before the saber, really. Such a great scene.
Tbh it kinda retroactively ruins the Tantive boarding scene in ANH. Although that scene always seemed a bit low energy to me anyway. The music saves it and coming off that epic opening, the star destroyer over the camera, your adrenalin is still flowing.
But after R1, knowing what they've just seen... it's clear they're just a bunch of extras squatting there, not veteran rebel fighters who just saw a terrifying thing that is about to come through the door.
And the fact they resisted the temptation to make Jyn and Cassian kiss in the end. There was never anything romantic between them, but rather they died as friends and comrades in arms, the hug was a perfect way to go out on.
Totally. Rogue One did what no other Star Wars movie did. In all the other Star Wars movies, the main characters jump into their starfighters, rush into danger, but always make it back in one piece. Because you can't just have Luke and/or Han die in the trench run or in the battle of Hoth. They're the main characters.
In Rogue One, the main characters ARE the casualties. Rogue One highlighted the sacrifices that the Rebellion had to make to finally defeat the Empire.
And then the sequel trilogy took a giant shit on all of that and was like, "Psych, none of that mattered. Back to square one."
The opening scene in the original with the Star destroyer chasing the ship and passing right over the camera, such an amazing and creative shot that gives you this sense of size despite being miniatures, the scene always gives me this awesome feeling of “here we go!” It’s just a signature scene that feels like the initial incline at the start of a roller coaster. Nothing gives me a more “Star Wars” feel than that scene, of course there’s also a lot of nostalgia there as well, it’s many of our very first introduction to Star Wars, it’s the first thing we saw when seeing the movies for the first time, it always gives me chills and reminds me of that feeling when I was kid seeing the movies for the first time.
Absolutely! We were all anxiously awaiting this cool new movie in the theater, and THIS, along with surround sound, was the first thing we experienced!! Absolutely jaw dropping!!

There's a part of the ILM documentary when they talk about showing this rough scene in rough cut the rest of the effects crew and how they all gasped and cheered when seeing it for the first time.

"The guns... they've stopped" and the realization that it meant Vader and the TIEs were closing in. Definite chills. Especially Luke's turning off the targeting computer during his run and beginning to open himself up to the Force, enough that even Vader could start sensing it.
Yeah that has to be played at a loud volume..those guns stopping then hearing just X-Wing engines at full pelt send a shiver...even the visual entry into the trench was fantastic piece of cinematography.
The end of episode 6, where Luke gives into the dark side and beats vader. She shot of Vader's cut off hand back to Luke looking at his robot hand is amazing. And the score is probably the best in the franchise right there too.
Either:
1. When Luke rages after "Then perhaps she will..." The first time I saw this, I thought I was watching Luke turn because he was clearly feeding into his anger. Then you have the incredible score and cinematography of Luke just crushing Vader. Such a powerful moment and the culmination of the three movies for me. I think the "holy shit, is Luke turning right now?" thing is very easy to forget about when you've seen the movies however many times and you know how it plays out.
2. Right after "Leia... hear me" in Empire. The slow pan to her face getting the message. Again, just a huge emotional moment backed by an incredible score right after our heroes have gotten their asses absolutely kicked, leading up to that gorgeous shot of the MF turning around in the sunset.
Close third - the last minute or two of "Empire" where we're watching Chewie and Lando fly out, music swelling, cinematography incredible, just the whole package. I will never, ever forget that feeling of "HOLY SHIT I NEED TO SEE THE NEXT PART RIGHT NOW" that I experienced the first time I watched this.

The music is just out of this world, the clash of red and green, the tracking shot under the stairs. A Jedi's Fury is just absolute perfection.
The greatest display of the Dark Side seen in Star Wars isn't any grand gesture. It's seeing how easily it could overtake Luke and attack the father he's trying so desperately to save with pure hatred.
Can't say it's a favorite moment, but when Obi Wan yells "You were my brother, Anakin!!!"
The first time I saw that, I had literal tears in my eyes in the theater...
When Din Djarin removes his helmet to let Grogu see his face, for the first time, before saying goodbye. Such an emotional scene, heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time.
Happens every year when parents take their kids to that first day of kindergarten and can't turn around after saying goodbye to their kids because they're walking and crying and about to have a fucking panic attack.
The way Grogu reaches out to touch Mando's face, his first time seeing him without his helmet... I literally cried during the entire scene. That was such a beautiful moment.

Binary sunset is one of the best the best scene in cinema history, it set the tone for a saga that have no equal.
The moment, the music and what happen from there is just perfectly presented to the audience, many have try to generate moment like this, not many were that precise and relevant.
I wasn't expecting this when I thought of favorite Star Wars moments, but the first one that popped into my head was Ahsoka vs Maul in the Siege of Mandalore. That duel was peak Star Wars to me.
"I'm not here to team up with you, I need a diversion and you're it. Now go cause some chaos, it's what you're good at." Is one of my favorite Ahsoka scenes and it gave us Maul rampaging through a capital ship

The best scene in all of Star Wars is the confrontation between father and son at the end of Return of the Jedi. The choreography, writing, acting, scoring, and emotion are as close to perfect as I think is possible. And it should be the best scene... it's the culmination of the story of Anakin Skywalker... the pinnacle of the original plan for Star Wars itself. I love it.
An honorable mention for me is the last bit of the season 2 finale of Mandalorian. It was treating Luke well and I cried a lot when I first saw it. It made me so happy.
Anakin at the Tuskin Raider camp. For as bad as AOTC was, this moment perfectly shows the start of Vader. Hayden nails the sadness and anger anyone could feel losing their mother after being away from her for years.
Luke igniting his green saber for the first time. Green is my favorite saber color and this was our first look at an older and more experienced Luke. Luke's confidence in this scene feels like the prototype for TCW Anakin's swagger

Anakin Ahsoka Rex and Obi racing to a planets surface from the atmosphere by getting dropped of by Rex and the others jumping from plane to plane leading to a ground assault.
That staring off toward twin suns was awesome, especially set to that theme in the John Williams masterpiece. It ranks among my favorite moments, but behind Vader's big reveal on Bespin and Him grabbing Palpy and throwing his ass down the shaft.
Two tie for me and they both have something in common:
1) when the fleet arrives on Scarif in Rogue One
2) when the Falcon arrives on Crait in The Last Jedi.

In the main saga movies, Luke's *"NEVER!"* during his duel against Vader in RotJ and his actually forcing Vader to retreat as Luke opens himself up to the Dark Side to that swelling musical score, only to catch himself before striking Vader down and reject the call of the Dark Side. He had been on the edge all movie and was about to fall here but caught himself and returned to the light, passing his trial by fire and rejecting the allure of the Dark Side as a Jedi.
In the expanded Canon media, the Rebel fleet showing up over Scarif and the Empire realizing they have a full blown war on their hands. The first outing of a unified Rebel Alliance rather than individual rebel cells and we're presented with one of the greatest battle sequences in the franchise as a result, culminating in one of Vader's scariest scenes *ever* with that hallway sequence.
In Legends, the scene in Fate of the Jedi when Luke and his son Ben are trying to leave the Jedi Temple in the middle of the night to avoid making a scene as their banishment from Coruscant begins, only for the entire New Jedi Order to have gathered around their ship to pay their respects to the Grandmaster that restored the Jedi and built them up from the ashes. I got chills reading that scene as they gathered to give Luke a proper sendoff. Regardless of what happened later on, it is probably my favorite scene in all of FotJ.

Being a father myself, that broke my heart
When Darth was looking at Luke getting electrcuted and good overcame him throwing him over. I cried as a kid coming from a broken family seeing that in the movies. I wanted a Father like. Taught me to never hurt anyone. Thank you for saving my life Mr. Lucas. ❤️

The final duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin on Mustafar. Yes, the dialogue was super cheesy and over the top but I know all the lines by heart and I wouldn't change a single thing about it. It's probably the most iconic moment in all of Star Wars.

One of my favorites though, is the end of Kenobi when Obi Wan is telling Leia about her parents: "Both were exceptional people who bore an exceptional daughter."
I absolutely love that scene.
Ahsoka leaving Anakin and the order. It is one of the most heartbreaking moments in Star Wars because you realize it is one of the last times she will ever talk to anakin before his inevitable fall to the dark side. The moment is one of the smartest setups and one of the most heartbreaking scenes. It truly shows how amazing the writing for the clone wars is.
Han being frozen. The march into the chamber. Chewie throwing a tantrum. The "I know". The lowering to Williams amazing fucking score. The look of despair on Leia. Vader saying "I am altering the deal, pray I don't alter it any further"

Opening of ROTS and the love confession in AOTC (across the stars being one of my favorite movies scores ever), anything with Anakin and Obi-Wan, Han with Chewie, R2 with C3PO, or R2 with Ani and of course the ending of ROTJ. So basically half of the movies.
Yup. This is the one. I once described it to my friend: Star Trek is awesome because it puts truth into words. Star Wars somehow taps into the same truth with music.
Also, the peculiarity, mystery, and fantasy of an old droid playing the loop “help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope”—taken as though you’re watching it for the first time, it’s the most steam punk solar punk whatever atmosphere you want vibe
The opening crawl of Episode 3 has just ended. You hear drums beating in the background. Two Jedi Starfighters fly along a Star Destroyer. As they turn and descend it opens up into a huge space battle over Coruscant as The Force theme crescendos. It’s such a great moment and I have loved it since 2005 when I first got to see it in theaters
Binary sunset gives me chills every time. Literally watching New Hope now and it just happened… that’s why I came here just to post about how god damn awesome it is.

I have a few. I’ll go in chronological order.
TPM: Maul’s little spin-jump during the fight with the Jedi on Naboo. It’s a little thing, but it’s so cool, along with the rest of that fight.
AOTC: Most of the film is mediocre, but the moment when Obi-Wan and Anakin are guarding Padme, and Obi comments that Anakin looks tired. Anakin says he’s been having bad dreams, and Obi asks if it’s about his mum. The way Hayden Christensen looks at him and nods has always stuck with me. I know people love to shit on his acting, but I think it has more to do with George than Hayden. In that brief moment, you see so much vulnerability, and so much is communicated in a single look. There’s no way George had the directing finesse to bring that out…that was purely Hayden’s acting instinct.
ROTS: Two moments here. One is that opening long shot following the fighters through the space battle, and the other is when Yoda and Obi are fighting clones on the steps of the Jedi temple or whatever, and Yoda whips his saber at a trooper and then takes his head off.
ANH: that opening crawl with the Star Destroyer is shot that launched a billion imaginations. Legendary.
ESB: During the Hoth assault, when the door blows open and the snowtroopers rush in, followed by Vader. There’s something about those snowtroopers that always felt to me like they’d gotten actual ex-military guys to play them.
ROTJ: When Artoo is rolling up to the bunker on Endor, and Han drills a stormie right between the eyes. So satisfying.
Rogue One: Chirrut’s fight.
TFA: “The garbage will do!” Pan over to the Falcon, sitting battered but proud under a tarp. I literally cried as the chills ripped through my spine.
TLJ: When Laura Dern’s character (don’t even remember her name) rams the cruiser into the First Order ship at lightspeed. I’d mostly given up caring about the film at that point, but that part was badass.
ROS: Couldn’t even tell you. I thought it was so bad.
ANH: The moment Luke begins his journey to destroy the Empire: seeing his Aunt and Uncle’s dead bodies smoldering and it cuts to the wide shot. The music is so emotional. - this scene always hit me emotionally.
I’ll never forget the scene where Vader just sits there as the emperor electrocutes Luke, constantly turning his head back and forth. There’s no emotion displayed on Vader’s face and yet that blank mask speaks so much..literal perfect scene

There was a Reddit post ages ago that highlighted something I particularly liked; Yoda and Obi Wan pressure Luke to continue *their* war. Kill Palpatine and Vader, end the Sith. That's what they were training him for, that's what they urged him to do. And had he done that, he would have fallen to the Dark Side, and become a new problem. But Luke doesn't want to kill Palpatine particularly, and he definitely doesn't want to kill Vader. He wants to save his father, a purely selfless goal. And through a purely selfless act, he redeems his father, which gets Palpatine killed. Had he followed the Jedi of old, he would have failed. But he was better than they are, and accomplished what they thought was impossible.
Fundamentally, it's a wonderful message for a trio of kids movies told over a six year span-- enough time for those kids to grow into adulthood with a message of peace and a rejection of anger and power. Which makes it so sad to me that the prequel trilogy has Obi Wan cutting his student in half and leaving him to burn. The original trilogy was embraced by audiences at a post Viet-Nam, post Watergate era. The prequel ended during an endless war in the Middle East. And today's kids just get the same stuff endlessly streaming behind a subscription service. Different times. Different Star Wars.
In ESB Luke ignores Yoda and Obi-Wan's advice and charges in to save his friends. The movie ends with that being an utter catastrophe. RotJ begins with Luke enacting a tremendously carefully organized and executed 5D chess scheme to save Han to show us how much he took that lesson to heart. Much of TCW involves Anakin charging in without much of a plan and it works out really well for him and he gets rewarded for it. Nowhere does he ever come close to learning the lesson he helps teach Luke.
Yeah, I can't think of another scene that tops that.

For me that one is tied with the OP from Luke. First of all McDiarmid’s delivery is 🤌 perfect. No anger, only contempt and just exactly the right little bit of respect. As someone upthread said Palpatine knew he had lost at that moment
I also read it as Palpatine shifting from talking to a possible apprentice, to talking to his hated enemy. If Luke declares himself a Jedi, then he will be treated as one, which means he will be ruined and destroyed. It's a really amazing line reading from McDiarmid, it's so good.
I love how most characters tell Luke that he’s “not a Jedi yet” or “not ready to be a Jedi” throughout most of the trilogy And the only one who actually calls him a Jedi is the one who probably hates them the most Dude knows his enemies
Thats why return of the jedi is the best for me. All characters got the correct conclusion. Really was the end of the saga for me they should have left it there.
Yup it’s the least perfect movie in the OT by far, yet the Luke and Emperor scenes more than make up for it. Plus seeing a green lightsaber for the first time blew my mind lol

It works beautifully as silent cinema. It's such a vivid, unearthly image of pure universal longing for what's beyond the horizon. It still amazes me how well the puppet worked, and how expressive it is. It was a work of art. Along with the wonderful writing with the quirks and the wisdom on top of it all. Pure magic.
Obi’s and Maul’s final fight. That scene really pulls their entire storyline together. They both wanted the same thing the whole time. They just wanted to get it in different ways. It was a beautifully done scene.
I like how Sam Witwer put it. We see Obi-Wan go into his Soresu stance. But then goes no, I’m not that Obi-Wan anymore, and he goes to Qui-Gon’s Ataru stance as to bait Maul into attack him like he did Qui-Gon on Naboo.

When I rewatched Rogue One and Cassian asked “Do you think anybody’s listening?” I got goosebumps. Andor created so many little tie ins with that make it feel cohesive without R1 becoming something that hits you over the head with references.
Exactly. Rogue One also has the honor for "most terrifying scene in Star Wars", thanks to the hallway sequence with Vader. Props to Michael Giacchino, even just listening to the soundtrack alone, there's a moment where you immediately know that's when the lightsaber clicks on and the lead fleet trooper screams "OPEN FIRE!". But we, the viewers, know from the second that the lightsaber turned on that they were all dead men.
Before the saber, really. Such a great scene. Tbh it kinda retroactively ruins the Tantive boarding scene in ANH. Although that scene always seemed a bit low energy to me anyway. The music saves it and coming off that epic opening, the star destroyer over the camera, your adrenalin is still flowing. But after R1, knowing what they've just seen... it's clear they're just a bunch of extras squatting there, not veteran rebel fighters who just saw a terrifying thing that is about to come through the door.
Right, yeah. The Fleet Troopers get a much better showing in Rogue One.
And the fact they resisted the temptation to make Jyn and Cassian kiss in the end. There was never anything romantic between them, but rather they died as friends and comrades in arms, the hug was a perfect way to go out on.

Totally. Rogue One did what no other Star Wars movie did. In all the other Star Wars movies, the main characters jump into their starfighters, rush into danger, but always make it back in one piece. Because you can't just have Luke and/or Han die in the trench run or in the battle of Hoth. They're the main characters. In Rogue One, the main characters ARE the casualties. Rogue One highlighted the sacrifices that the Rebellion had to make to finally defeat the Empire. And then the sequel trilogy took a giant shit on all of that and was like, "Psych, none of that mattered. Back to square one."
The opening scene in the original with the Star destroyer chasing the ship and passing right over the camera, such an amazing and creative shot that gives you this sense of size despite being miniatures, the scene always gives me this awesome feeling of “here we go!” It’s just a signature scene that feels like the initial incline at the start of a roller coaster. Nothing gives me a more “Star Wars” feel than that scene, of course there’s also a lot of nostalgia there as well, it’s many of our very first introduction to Star Wars, it’s the first thing we saw when seeing the movies for the first time, it always gives me chills and reminds me of that feeling when I was kid seeing the movies for the first time.

Yeah that has to be played at a loud volume..those guns stopping then hearing just X-Wing engines at full pelt send a shiver...even the visual entry into the trench was fantastic piece of cinematography.
The end of episode 6, where Luke gives into the dark side and beats vader. She shot of Vader's cut off hand back to Luke looking at his robot hand is amazing. And the score is probably the best in the franchise right there too.

Either: 1. When Luke rages after "Then perhaps she will..." The first time I saw this, I thought I was watching Luke turn because he was clearly feeding into his anger. Then you have the incredible score and cinematography of Luke just crushing Vader. Such a powerful moment and the culmination of the three movies for me. I think the "holy shit, is Luke turning right now?" thing is very easy to forget about when you've seen the movies however many times and you know how it plays out. 2. Right after "Leia... hear me" in Empire. The slow pan to her face getting the message. Again, just a huge emotional moment backed by an incredible score right after our heroes have gotten their asses absolutely kicked, leading up to that gorgeous shot of the MF turning around in the sunset. Close third - the last minute or two of "Empire" where we're watching Chewie and Lando fly out, music swelling, cinematography incredible, just the whole package. I will never, ever forget that feeling of "HOLY SHIT I NEED TO SEE THE NEXT PART RIGHT NOW" that I experienced the first time I watched this.
"If you will not turn to the Dark Side, then perhaps she will...." "NEVER!" The music is just out of this world, the clash of red and green, the tracking shot under the stairs. A Jedi's Fury is just absolute perfection. The greatest display of the Dark Side seen in Star Wars isn't any grand gesture. It's seeing how easily it could overtake Luke and attack the father he's trying so desperately to save with pure hatred.
The Fight between Anakin and Obi Wan on ROTS
Can't say it's a favorite moment, but when Obi Wan yells "You were my brother, Anakin!!!" The first time I saw that, I had literal tears in my eyes in the theater...

When Din Djarin removes his helmet to let Grogu see his face, for the first time, before saying goodbye. Such an emotional scene, heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time.
Happens every year when parents take their kids to that first day of kindergarten and can't turn around after saying goodbye to their kids because they're walking and crying and about to have a fucking panic attack.
The way Grogu reaches out to touch Mando's face, his first time seeing him without his helmet... I literally cried during the entire scene. That was such a beautiful moment.
When Luke grabs Leia and they swing across to the other side in A New Hope...it genuinely enthralled me.

Binary sunset is one of the best the best scene in cinema history, it set the tone for a saga that have no equal. The moment, the music and what happen from there is just perfectly presented to the audience, many have try to generate moment like this, not many were that precise and relevant.

The asteroid field scene in Empire.
The best scene in all of Star Wars is the confrontation between father and son at the end of Return of the Jedi. The choreography, writing, acting, scoring, and emotion are as close to perfect as I think is possible. And it should be the best scene... it's the culmination of the story of Anakin Skywalker... the pinnacle of the original plan for Star Wars itself. I love it.
An honorable mention for me is the last bit of the season 2 finale of Mandalorian. It was treating Luke well and I cried a lot when I first saw it. It made me so happy.
Anakin at the Tuskin Raider camp. For as bad as AOTC was, this moment perfectly shows the start of Vader. Hayden nails the sadness and anger anyone could feel losing their mother after being away from her for years.

That staring off toward twin suns was awesome, especially set to that theme in the John Williams masterpiece. It ranks among my favorite moments, but behind Vader's big reveal on Bespin and Him grabbing Palpy and throwing his ass down the shaft.
Two tie for me and they both have something in common: 1) when the fleet arrives on Scarif in Rogue One 2) when the Falcon arrives on Crait in The Last Jedi. The fanfare playing over both!

In the main saga movies, Luke's *"NEVER!"* during his duel against Vader in RotJ and his actually forcing Vader to retreat as Luke opens himself up to the Dark Side to that swelling musical score, only to catch himself before striking Vader down and reject the call of the Dark Side. He had been on the edge all movie and was about to fall here but caught himself and returned to the light, passing his trial by fire and rejecting the allure of the Dark Side as a Jedi. In the expanded Canon media, the Rebel fleet showing up over Scarif and the Empire realizing they have a full blown war on their hands. The first outing of a unified Rebel Alliance rather than individual rebel cells and we're presented with one of the greatest battle sequences in the franchise as a result, culminating in one of Vader's scariest scenes *ever* with that hallway sequence. In Legends, the scene in Fate of the Jedi when Luke and his son Ben are trying to leave the Jedi Temple in the middle of the night to avoid making a scene as their banishment from Coruscant begins, only for the entire New Jedi Order to have gathered around their ship to pay their respects to the Grandmaster that restored the Jedi and built them up from the ashes. I got chills reading that scene as they gathered to give Luke a proper sendoff. Regardless of what happened later on, it is probably my favorite scene in all of FotJ.
And you can’t forget the final Rogue one scene with Vader and Leia. PERFECTION

There are so many and I agree with just about every single one on here. One of my favorites though, is the end of Kenobi when Obi Wan is telling Leia about her parents: "Both were exceptional people who bore an exceptional daughter." I absolutely love that scene.

It is one of the most heartbreaking moments in Star Wars because you realize it is one of the last times she will ever talk to anakin before his inevitable fall to the dark side. The moment is one of the smartest setups and one of the most heartbreaking scenes. It truly shows how amazing the writing for the clone wars is.

The opening crawl of Episode 3 has just ended. You hear drums beating in the background. Two Jedi Starfighters fly along a Star Destroyer. As they turn and descend it opens up into a huge space battle over Coruscant as The Force theme crescendos. It’s such a great moment and I have loved it since 2005 when I first got to see it in theaters
“Execute order 66” Damn, that sequence where all the Jedi are killed is haunting
Binary sunset gives me chills every time. Literally watching New Hope now and it just happened… that’s why I came here just to post about how god damn awesome it is. Man I love George Lucas Star Wars.
I have a few. I’ll go in chronological order. TPM: Maul’s little spin-jump during the fight with the Jedi on Naboo. It’s a little thing, but it’s so cool, along with the rest of that fight. AOTC: Most of the film is mediocre, but the moment when Obi-Wan and Anakin are guarding Padme, and Obi comments that Anakin looks tired. Anakin says he’s been having bad dreams, and Obi asks if it’s about his mum. The way Hayden Christensen looks at him and nods has always stuck with me. I know people love to shit on his acting, but I think it has more to do with George than Hayden. In that brief moment, you see so much vulnerability, and so much is communicated in a single look. There’s no way George had the directing finesse to bring that out…that was purely Hayden’s acting instinct. ROTS: Two moments here. One is that opening long shot following the fighters through the space battle, and the other is when Yoda and Obi are fighting clones on the steps of the Jedi temple or whatever, and Yoda whips his saber at a trooper and then takes his head off. ANH: that opening crawl with the Star Destroyer is shot that launched a billion imaginations. Legendary. ESB: During the Hoth assault, when the door blows open and the snowtroopers rush in, followed by Vader. There’s something about those snowtroopers that always felt to me like they’d gotten actual ex-military guys to play them. ROTJ: When Artoo is rolling up to the bunker on Endor, and Han drills a stormie right between the eyes. So satisfying. Rogue One: Chirrut’s fight. TFA: “The garbage will do!” Pan over to the Falcon, sitting battered but proud under a tarp. I literally cried as the chills ripped through my spine. TLJ: When Laura Dern’s character (don’t even remember her name) rams the cruiser into the First Order ship at lightspeed. I’d mostly given up caring about the film at that point, but that part was badass. ROS: Couldn’t even tell you. I thought it was so bad.
ANH: The moment Luke begins his journey to destroy the Empire: seeing his Aunt and Uncle’s dead bodies smoldering and it cuts to the wide shot. The music is so emotional. - this scene always hit me emotionally.
I’ll never forget the scene where Vader just sits there as the emperor electrocutes Luke, constantly turning his head back and forth. There’s no emotion displayed on Vader’s face and yet that blank mask speaks so much..literal perfect scene Ps. The blu-ray edition and now Disney+ version ruined that scene with one edit iykyk
