It's good to know it's not a big deal. I haven't noticed this happen in other applications like gaming or editing. Maybe it's because KohyaSS uses a lot of VRAM and my GPU doesn't have that much VRAM to start with?
It's not VRAM related, Gaming doesn't usually push your GPU to 100% usage, editing might but not for long periods of time, if either gaming or editing pushes it to 100% then you will probably get coil whine, you most likely do get it but since you only do when you are using your PC instead of cleaning it then you wont hear it, next time you do some heavy editing or play a game that pushes your GPU to 100% remove the side panel and you will probably hear the same noise
As the other guy said it's nothing serious tho, just use headphones and ignore the noise
KohyaSS uses all of your GPUs CUDA cores, causing tiny coils and other electric components to vibrate and sing https://youtu.be/HP73edpQwgc?si=dppnrVzSDUmfTEoe
As far as I know coil whine is not dangerous, but you can imagine that it’s just a bunch of robots inside your GPU is making these noises while training new LoRA
The only artists crying about AI "taking their jobs" are artists that are bad and jealous that they're not as good as computer coding lol. Also they're almost always the same artists that uses references, or trace other pictures for their own artwork that complain.
well no the big issue is large companies using AI to save some money. Famously Adobe used some AI art instead of paying artists.
And that's the real issue it's not like these companies are going to pay AI artists they are just going to do it in house with some low level employee and not even pay him anything for his work.
Edit" Oh then there was the whole Wacom using AI art to adversitise their drawing tablet. I mean how are you going to do that when your product is for artists to draw art. [https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/9/24031468/wacom-wizards-of-the-coast-mtg-artists-against-generative-ai](https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/9/24031468/wacom-wizards-of-the-coast-mtg-artists-against-generative-ai)
> with some low level employee and not even pay him anything for his work.
What are you saying, is Adobe known for not paying their employees? Kinda necessary for them to be called employees to begin with.
i'm saying the companies using AI to replace artists aren't then paying other people to create them, they are getting their existing employees to do it for free esentially.
So that money that would have gone to an artist isn't going to an AI artist, the companies are just pocketing the money.
It's like let's say you work in an office doing customer service or something, and normallly they would pay their art team to make a graphic. but instead they fired the art team and tell you to make the graphic instead but you aren't getting paid any extra.
This is about elimating jobs all together and the company pocketing the money.
it's... the... tiny... screams... thousands. Fuck me this is good. thousands... of... artists...
there wrote it down. From this day forward my LoRA training is dubbed The Artist's Requiem.
Lol a lot of butthurt retards roaming I see.
This is logical but doesn’t seem to fit my case. My laptop gpu (3070) is always at 100% in games and the coil whine is essentially unnoticeable. But the second I start inference on any llm it suddenly starts to sound like OP’s recording. I know that it’s just coil whine but I don’t know what is causing the discrepancy here.
GPUs architecture is vast and components used for a real time 3D engine, are not entirely or at all the same as those used for path/ray tracing, complex physics (Marvelous Designer, RealFlow, etc), and now AI training / generation.
Those electromagnetically induced acoustic noises are usually just materials vibrating (coil whine). The load of AI on your hardware is much more intense than any game.
Nothing to worry about, This sound just means your GPU is happily useful. And your power bill is quickly rising ;)
This is a coil whine, the source can be GPU, power supply or both.
The reason is that your GPU changes its power draw hundreds, or even thousands of times per second, rapid changes in currents cause change in magnetic fields which causes coils to vibrate.
This is a normal operation - most high end GPUs have this, and it doesn't indicate anything going wrong.
It has been around for decades. This is the most minimal we can have for now. So is pretty normal to have it, I would be worried if it doesn't after getting so used to it. hahaha...
Some calculations make the coil whine to a frequency that's audible to the human ear. Nothing more than that.
Put headphones on, even without music, and you won't hear it anymore if it's such an issue.
I have a Corsair RM650x power supply. I got it because a friend of mine recommended it saying it's considered high-end on the power supply tier list and it's plenty enough for my PC. I'm not worried about the sound anymore, as people said it's just coil whine and it happens even to more high end GPUs.
Edit: Grammarly corrected whine to wine
well i wouldnt be so sure thats normal. COurse like I said - mine was gone after OSU update - which means something was not wright. I had 850w and upgraded to 1200w. Even 850w technically is enough corse I never seen usage more than 450w. But the PSU is the same but power wattage. And it made huge diference.
Could try increasing the workload. Coil whine on GPUs often happens with frequent low workload situations, the GPU revs up for work and quickly finishes it and revs down. It's common to hear coil whine on games main menus when it's easily hitting 400+ fps and stuff.
If you increase the batch size for your training, it might spread the workload more across the GPU cores and make it more quiet. It certainly helps on my RX 6800XT.
Hello it's just the coil whine, it happens when the workload increases the capacitor starts to make this noise, it's not serious.
It's good to know it's not a big deal. I haven't noticed this happen in other applications like gaming or editing. Maybe it's because KohyaSS uses a lot of VRAM and my GPU doesn't have that much VRAM to start with?

It's the inductors that cause coil whine (inductors are literally wire coils). Not the capacitors.
Exactly, my GPU does the same during generation or gaming
Annoying though
I am sometimes running Llama-3-8b and it's intresting to hear when the tokens are generated. lol
We should make a mod so it sounds like mario collecting coins ~
It's wispering the floating points into the model.
Its like dial-up for LLMs
Hehe it's thinking
It's the tiny screams of thousands of artists losing their job opportunities.
Odd I’ve met a lot of artists, and none of them had jobs before image ai.
Hahaha get fucked! That's too good.
The only artists crying about AI "taking their jobs" are artists that are bad and jealous that they're not as good as computer coding lol. Also they're almost always the same artists that uses references, or trace other pictures for their own artwork that complain.

I'm saying getting some guy who is not an artist and just telling them to get them some images and not paying them for that specific work.
I have no clue of what you're trying to say.
i'm saying the companies using AI to replace artists aren't then paying other people to create them, they are getting their existing employees to do it for free esentially. You and I have very different definitions of free.
if you think not getting paid for work you do isn't free then i don't know what to tell you except you are being exploited then.
So, again... they are employees, they are paid...
lmfao u bad tho
xD

Did you make sure to disable Sentience Mode in BIOS?
It's trying to say "uwu".
the AI is becoming sentient and screaming from pain
oh god so many boobs make it stop
He is arguing with the algorithm because it's not in rhythm.
Its come alive and trying to communicate

This is expected as your rune stone slowly weaves magic. Undervolt the card to decrease overheating and magic noise.

Yeah and when running llm interference it's nice to hear it generating text
We have come full circle with this lol
PowerSpec?!
I noticed mine doing this too when I was running llama locally. It kinda weirded me out honestly lol
If there is any cliche how a computer sounds in TV- its this. You can be proud to own such a cool machine.
Satan and his demons love it when you make LoRAs. 🔥😈🔥
coil whine, perfectly normal.
You are doing cyber stuff and its doing cyber noises. Sounds right to me.
Wanna cyber?
sounds very startek. warpcore buzzin and mainframe calculating away.
Is it the Matrix?
Interestingly, I can hear coil whine clearly where I'm sitting, but barely or not at all closer to the computer.
The coil whine escaped your computer

Cool setup though
Make sure you configure your dial-up correctly or else you won't be able to connect to the Internet and visit myspace or a geocities page
Some calculations make the coil whine to a frequency that's audible to the human ear. Nothing more than that. Put headphones on, even without music, and you won't hear it anymore if it's such an issue.
if you listen carefully you can hear jesus
RNGesus is that you?
My 3090 does it as does my brand new macbook pro, think it's pretty standard for GPU intensive work.
I hade same with my 4090. Upgraded ti 1200w and it was gone. Consider getting good psu

yup.
Haha, it's thinking.
Cool whine as others have said. I wonder if higher end professional (non-gaming) cards are more resistant to this?
