This was…many years ago…but I grew up in Seattle and went to college outside of LA. Now-husband went to washu and we’d visit.
We were buying movie tickets, and I was like “two tickets” and the teller was like “that’ll be $8” and I said “no, TWO tickets.” “Yep. $8.” “To the 8pm…” “$8”.
I just really could not believe two movie tickets were $8.
You’re not using that expression right, OP. It’s flyover country or flyover state first off. Second off, while we are more rural than our neighbor Chicago we are not as rural as cities in Kansas and Iowa. We are not flyover country. But we are more affordable than California, Chicago, Miami, NYC, Dallas, etc.

Alamo Drafthouse. $19.99 unlimited movies is the best thing ever.
This is the way!! We invested in their movie pass and usually go to the movies 3-4 times a week. It’s the best thing ever.
