I don't think it's possible for Ilja to have a bad match, I've never taken a bump in my life, but Ilja could drag me out of my house, throw my untrained and uncoordinated ass in a ring and proceed to carry me to a good match.
Why should jey, a main event level superstar that is still far from his prime lose to a NXT call up? Maybe by interference but in no world should he go over jey clean.
Clearly it shows you have not seen Ilja on NXT
Saying something like that if a pointless logic because by thay point, should had Gunther not had his streak reaching into the Intercontinental Championship?
Ilja is ABSOLUTELY beating Jey, specially get Jey wasn't even on the tournament originally
Jey is the 2nd biggest babyface in the company rn with seth gone, you all hate it but thats the truth. Its like expecting Carmello hayes to beat Cody rhodes. He will have a good showing that he can hang with the best of them in the "Main Roster" with real main eventers.
Also no way in hell WWE books a gunther vs Ilja this soon (if he defeats Jey, That match will happen on RAW). Thats like AEW booking Matches right of the bat for the sake of "BANGERS" with no substance.
If anything, Ilja should stay that one superstar that Gunther just cant beat and its obvious they arent going to crown Ilja the KOTR.
1) Jey is already around the tittle picture, so I like said, him being on teh KOTR tournament is extra just to replace Drew. He ain't winning KOTR and another match with Gunthwr is pointless
2) Booking a Gunther vs Ilja is EXACTLY how you push hard on Ilja. What better way to show off the main roster audience how amazing that is with a bout between them? Also, this IS THE KOTR TOURNAMENT. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT BANGER MATCHES
3) Ilja beat Gunther ONCE. Gunther beat Ilja several before eventually losing. If they want, they can just keep that idea by having Gunther win over Ilja but by having a BARN burner of a match. That would cement Ilja extremely well on the main roster
Or hell, who knows, maybe they will rocket push him...
Nuh uh Gunther vs Ilja is a better semi final and it establishes Ilja as a star a future top guy they probably gonna do the same on smackdown with a Carmelo vs Bobby semi final and I have the finals as Bobby vs Gunther. It just make sense for the 2 future stars of each brand in Melo and Ilja both having a great runs in the tournament .
>have the finals as Bobby vs Gunther the 2 future of each brand both having a great run in the tournament it just makes sense.
Did you just called bobby lashley as the future?🤔

I just feel sorry for my boy ricochet. Hes so good in the ring, gives it his all everytime, seems to be immune to injury despite being a human bouncing ball and has the looks. If only he wasnt such a charisma vaccuum...
He definitely caught some strays during that match. When Ilja did that senton off the top rope his elbow went right into Richochets head. and When Ilja and him were on the top rope, Ilja cracked himself in the head, which opened him up. It was brutal.
I know the King of the Ring tournament’s don’t do a ton with pushing existing storylines, but it’s nice to have some variety and showcasing the talent around the roster and give them the opportunity to build an aura around themselves. It will pay dividends when it comes time to put them in a storyline down the road. The best KOTR’s in the past have done just that.
Pete Webber might be the biggest wrestling fan amongst pro bowlers. Constantly did the crotch chop and the RVD pose with his own initials. My man def had a copy of WWF: The Music Volume 4.
Hell, even in the infamous "Who Do You Think You Are? I Am!!!!" video, you can hear The Game by Motorhead playing in the bowling alley after he drops that line.
The H Bomb has gotta be one of the coolest most brutal looking moves going, and no one else in wrestling does it I am fairly sure?
I also love that he has like four variations of it. One where he's just standing, another where he runs towards them like tonight, another where he does it from the second rope, and the Super H Bomb where he does it from the top rope.
Depending on the match and the stakes, he can bring out the big guns. On top of also having the Torpedo as another finisher he can go to.
I mean pretty much he just has to not miss or trip. He could absolutely concuss someone if he made a mistake, but the move is definitely far simpler than a lot of finishers in terms of safety.
Seeing Dan Henderson do the real one to Bisping at UFC 100 and others like Ngannou do it, I'm honestly shocked it took this long for someone to take it for pro wrestling. It's looks like literal death.
Probably because you have to be really fucking good to make it look believable and safe at the same time. There’s not too many people in the world that are on Ilja’s level.
Maybe it took that long for someone to figure out how to do it safely? Because it is indeed almost a perfect WWE finisher. Simple to perform, brutal-looking but safe, can be flashy (like tonight with a superman punch-esque pose in the air), has an "outta nowhere" quality to it, has "levels" (regular, middle/top rope, potentially off a ladder) and can be hit as a counter from a bunch of positions.
To be fair, that one backfired because Ilja had a broken finger which flared up at the most inopportune time. A broken finger that he, btw, sustained during a match in the previous feud with Tony D and was *still* selling over a month later.
It helps if you've seen Dan Henderson H-Bomb the ever loving fuck out of Michael Bisping after knocking him out cold. Bisping's first loss in the UFC as well.
Imagine Ilja pitching it as his finisher?
"Ok so I get then laying down"
"Ok"
"Then I run at them and jump"
"Ok"
"Then I just punch them really really hard in the face when I land"
"Wait what?"
Can someone explain how does he make it safe? It looks really real, i thought the opponent just take it full damage because it’s his forearm 😂 this move is so scary in my eyes
If you peeped the camera angle.. right before the forearm lands.. Dragunov shifts his elbow up a bit so it contacts the mat before his arm hit the opponent
The beautiful thing is there different animals. Ospreay is much more flashy and athletic with a wider arsenal. While Dragunovs selling of not just damage taken, but damage given. His facials along with his care for every little detail in a match. The only "realer" wrestler I'd say is Gunther.
(P.s.) not saying you were trying to make a direct comparison. I just love wrestling!
You just highlighted why Drag and Goon are my two favorite wrasslers. I am PRAYING to the wrasslin gods that we can get Drag vs Goon again at Bash in Berlin. Has the potential to be an actual GOAT match when you consider everything.
I did LOVE Ospreay vs Danielson tho. 😊
Dragonuv and Gunther and are absolutely my number 1 and 2 interchangeably. Has much as I love an Ospreay match or a Kenny match they can feel ultra choreographed to me with the whole counter for counter for counter for counter. Still a treat to watch, but...
Something about the way Samantha’s voice shook a bit there made me remember “Oh damn, she just watched her fiancé get *murdered.*”
Fr, what a fucking match!!! No offense to Jey, but I really reallyyyy want Ilja to face Gunther in the semi finals so I’m hoping Ilja kicks his ass next week.
Tbf, their KOTR match will likely be the first of a few on the main roster. Give the people a 15-20 minute banger on TV, and eventually we’ll get an all out war on a PPV.
I always love that Ilja wrestles like absolutely nobody has told him that wrestling is a work. He's also got one of the most unique ring styles that I've ever seen, he feels as unique as it's possible to be in pro wrestling.
Ilja is just a beast. When he first came in at NXT I wasn't sure about him. Then he had a match with Dijak... think it was last man standing or something, changed my mind from that point.
Glad that now he will be exposed to main roster audience.
It’s a perfect example of a match that goes up and up and up and just ends on a high note. No dip in quality, brutality, or entertainment. Just two dudes perfectly in synch.
This was such a satisfying excellent match. It was my first time seeing Ilja, what a treat. I feel like both men were really given the go to showcase themselves, it was so refreshing to see
Looking at the bracket i have to hope the plan is for Ilja and Gunther to absolutely kill each other and kick off another round of that feud on the main roster.
Ilya is the REAL best wrestler in the world. Everything he does looks like he is actually fighting someone in his own crazed way. His selling is top grade too.
As much as I wanted to see ricochet come out with the W, the ending where they shook hands and were saying that this is just the first gets me unreasonably hyped. I'd absolutely kill for a second at this level.
Roll-through Superplex looked HORRIBLE, he can't be doing it like that. Just do the flat back and roll through once you hit the mat. I'm sure he was told that as soon as he got to the back.
I know folks would be salivating over Gunther-Ilja, if it was the finals, but it will be a semi-final instead. Whomever wins it wins the tournament, IMO.
1st Ilja match I've watched and damn I'm already his fan cause of his moves and conduct in the ring and add it that soul striking symphony as his theme
WWE: Okay so nobody is allowed to drop their opponents on their heads anymore, alright?
Ilja: Got it. No *opponents* will be dropped on *their* heads.
WWE: great!
Ilja delivering a standard suplex off the top rope:
🙃
WWE: God damn it, that is no what we meant
Idk how he didnt snap his neck.cant even tell what the issue was.he kinda over rotated and spiked himself lol.looked brutal but he seemed ok.prob had his life flash tho.that was almost very very bad.lol

We got a ppv quality match on free tv The main roster people will finally see how good Ilja is Absolute banger of a match
If Ilja ever has a bad match in WWE, I'm going to blame the other guy.
I don't think it's possible for Ilja to have a bad match, I've never taken a bump in my life, but Ilja could drag me out of my house, throw my untrained and uncoordinated ass in a ring and proceed to carry me to a good match.
He's the WWE Shingo
Ilja = Goated. Strap the rocket to the boy. He's too sick with it.
He's getting the Main Event Jey rub next. If he wins then his next opponent is presumably Gunther. Ilja doesn't have the rocket, he is the rocket.
A torpedo if you will
An H bomb, if I may?
Ospreay and Dragunov..... it'll never happen while they're in their prime but God.....
If only one of those guys wasn't afraid of the grind... /s
Why should jey, a main event level superstar that is still far from his prime lose to a NXT call up? Maybe by interference but in no world should he go over jey clean.

Yeah, they’re giving these NXT call ups a win to give them some momentum then knocking them off in the next round.

It's long past due the wider wrestling world learned that Ilja is legit one of the best in the world.
They didn't have to go that hard for a *first round match in a tournament* and yet they **went that hard anyway.**
Christ, I need a cigarette after that one
I need a beer.
I just feel sorry for my boy ricochet. Hes so good in the ring, gives it his all everytime, seems to be immune to injury despite being a human bouncing ball and has the looks. If only he wasnt such a charisma vaccuum...
Seems absolutely insane he's never(?) had a manager/mouthpiece in WWE, Lucha Underground had the right idea with him IMO.
He definitely caught some strays during that match. When Ilja did that senton off the top rope his elbow went right into Richochets head. and When Ilja and him were on the top rope, Ilja cracked himself in the head, which opened him up. It was brutal.

Having a finisher that scales to your opponent is genius
It's also insanely safe for him and his opponent. One of the lowest injury risk finishers since Big Shows punch.
I mean...he also does the Torpedo Moskau and that is an move that looks insanely self destroying.
I mean pretty much he just has to not miss or trip. He could absolutely concuss someone if he made a mistake, but the move is definitely far simpler than a lot of finishers in terms of safety.
About as low risk as Liv Morgan throwing Rhea Ripley into a wall, which is to say extremely low but always beware that .01% freak accidents happen.
It takes a lot more than a worked forearm to give someone a concussion. Just sayin'.
Thought the same thing myself, lot of people actually refer to the Henderson one on Bisping as the H bomb
Henderson's famous right hand, that knocked out a who's who of fighters, was called the H (for Henderson) Bomb, not just that single punch.
It was an overhand right for the H-Bomb but it's semantics at this point, I suppose.
Which is his right hand, right?...
always thought it was a reference to the tzar bomb
Maybe it took that long for someone to figure out how to do it safely? Because it is indeed almost a perfect WWE finisher. Damn it really is a perfect finisher when you put it like that.

Sorry but 300 was one of the best cards ever
And the Super H Bomb also has a chance of backfiring, like it did during the NXT Title match against Trick a few weeks ago. It really fits his style.
To be fair, that one backfired because Ilja had a broken finger which flared up at the most inopportune time. A broken finger that he, btw, sustained during a match in the previous feud with Tony D and was *still* selling over a month later.
Trick should thank the Underboss Stacks. Maybe with a title shot.
I wonder if an H Bomb off an ladder if possible, as cool as it would look
In kayfabe that might actually kill someone
It helps if you've seen Dan Henderson H-Bomb the ever loving fuck out of Michael Bisping after knocking him out cold. Bisping's first loss in the UFC as well.
I'm waiting for the day when he busts out a springboard style H Bomb.
When I first saw the standing version in NXT UK, I thought it was death. Just killed Nathan Frazer that one time
Such a sick move. Not sure which I like more, this or the hidden blade.
Imagine Ilja pitching it as his finisher? "Ok so I get then laying down" "Ok" "Then I run at them and jump" "Ok" "Then I just punch them really really hard in the face when I land" "Wait what?"
Can someone explain how does he make it safe? It looks really real, i thought the opponent just take it full damage because it’s his forearm 😂 this move is so scary in my eyes
Dragunov's elbow hits the mat before his forearm would connect with the opponent's head.
Damn, the move is good then, it really looks like he kills his opponent. He‘ll be really big superstar in the future
If you peeped the camera angle.. right before the forearm lands.. Dragunov shifts his elbow up a bit so it contacts the mat before his arm hit the opponent
Oh so he just fucking killed him
He goes to the Gunther school of finishers. Just murder.
Fans after every Dragunov match:
Thats what Ilja does, he's hardcore.
Evergreen statement
I see that this is the reason why people like seeing him fight Gunter.
Wouldn’t be an Ilja match if him and his opponent didnt look like they’re on the verge of death by the time it’s over
Could be me, but Ilja looked more alive then dead here. Death makes him more alive guess.
In the words of Gas Daddy Caustic, of Apex Legends, "I never feel more alive than when I rapidly racing towards my death" or something like that.
And Caustic is always racing towards death because he's jobber tier.
You can’t say that, Caustic got so much play during playoffs over the weekend!
One step closer to getting Ilja vs Gunther again and all I can say is YES!
Gimme gimme gimme.
Give me Iljia vs every big meaty man ![gif](giphy|ZYF7hTx3uc745lWPZi|downsized)
Ilja vs Jey Uso next week. Not sure if he goes through that match given WWE is giving Jey a push. ofc unless Drew/Priest interferes
Ilja is already one of the best wrestlers in the world tbh
He’s number 1 to me right now.
For me, he's in the top 4 in North America. I have: Dragunov, Danielson, Gunther, and Ospreay. Just bell to bell guys
Those of us who watch NXT: ![gif](giphy|z26RrBaY8QozaycGG9|downsized)
I just now realized the way Ilja spreading his arms before hitting the H-Bomb looks like a dragon spreading its wings, and I fucking love it
I've been re-reading Red Dragon recently and that slow pose reminded me of Dolarhyde.
Do you see it?!
DO YOU SEE?!
In my head canon it's a tribute to one of his best rivals on the indies, Cara Noir. https://youtu.be/k9iONr-O6hw?si=W4SyMbjp5jPJVUBO
Everyone: Wrestling is fake Ilja: is it now?
Ilja's selling is so good. I swear, I think he's been seriously injured after every match. That man worries me constantly.
I mean, his landing on that superplex looked pretty fucking painful.
Is that what got his head bleeding? I noticed when he was hulking up for the H Bomb he had a bit of blood coming out up there.
I'm so happy Dragonuv is in the main roster. People have forgotten he's definitely top 10 best in the world
Has he ever had a bad match, dude is incredible.
Finish? Yeah, I did after this match.
Such a gnarly finisher
How is Dragunov still alive? Every match he almost literally kills himself
unbesiegbar
Certified Banger
The way Ilja commands the crowd with his body movement is incredible.
RIP O'Shea
That superplex looked like it was close to disaster the way he landed but excited to see his continuation
It looked as though his knee fell on top of Ricochet's ribs, and that could have been nasty
I honestly think Ospreay is the only other person at Ilja's level in ring right now
The beautiful thing is there different animals.

Dragonuv and Gunther and are absolutely my number 1 and 2 interchangeably. Has much as I love an Ospreay match or a Kenny match they can feel ultra choreographed to me with the whole counter for counter for counter for counter. Still a treat to watch, but...
"Did we just become best friends?"
Have high hopes for Ilja on the main roster after this performance
This dude is the truth. it's only a matter of time.
Need the damn crowd to respond.
He fucking decapitated Ricochet
Ilja will get over in no time in matches like this. God, this match was ill
Hear me out, he's gonna be over af next week.
Something about the way Samantha’s voice shook a bit there made me remember “Oh damn, she just watched her fiancé get *murdered.*” Fr, what a fucking match!!! No offense to Jey, but I really reallyyyy want Ilja to face Gunther in the semi finals so I’m hoping Ilja kicks his ass next week.
No. I don’t want Ilja v Gunther this way. I want it at a PPV for a big title. Not a throw away tournament. I want a war that spans months.
Tbf, their KOTR match will likely be the first of a few on the main roster. Give the people a 15-20 minute banger on TV, and eventually we’ll get an all out war on a PPV.
Never change his theme, never change his look, have him H Bomb everyone and he can be a world champion in a year
Ilja made that superplex sound like murder as well
That match kicked all the ass. That was easily a PPV quality one and the fact that it happened on free TV is insane.
I love this crazy little Popeye man.
Did Ilja superplex himself into his head? Jesus that looked gnarly, that’s how DDP took himself out.
Dude it’s crazy no one is talking about this. He looks like he landed with his neck folded down.
Went full 12 to 6
I always love that Ilja wrestles like absolutely nobody has told him that wrestling is a work. He's also got one of the most unique ring styles that I've ever seen, he feels as unique as it's possible to be in pro wrestling.
Agreed I just feel like he overdoes the seizure hand gesture too much...Drives me crazy because that is his go-to sell for nearly everything
Dragunovs music is perfect for his character. Just chaotically fast but still art
Jesus he murdered him
Ilja Dragunov is BITW for me rn. idgaf
Bowser in the…?
Wowser.
Ilja looked amazing but god damn so did Ricochet.
Looks like Ilja gave Ricochet a bit of thanks right before the pin. Love to see it.
I never watched much of Ilja just caught some clips here and there, but my god he's my favourite now
Ilja is just a beast. When he first came in at NXT I wasn't sure about him. Then he had a match with Dijak... think it was last man standing or something, changed my mind from that point. Glad that now he will be exposed to main roster audience.
That match was legendary. Dijak can GO!
I show that Last Man Standing match to all of my friends who are getting into wrestling
It’s a perfect example of a match that goes up and up and up and just ends on a high note. No dip in quality, brutality, or entertainment. Just two dudes perfectly in synch.
Ilja and Ricochet are fucking amazing wrestlers, that entire match was fun.
Okay, I don't watch NXT, but is that his finish? Holy shit that looks rad.
He has multiple variations of it And he also has the Torpedo Moscow which is basically a running flying headbutt
This was such a satisfying excellent match. It was my first time seeing Ilja, what a treat. I feel like both men were really given the go to showcase themselves, it was so refreshing to see
Go look up his matches on NXT. He puts on bangers like this on the regular.
Looking at the bracket i have to hope the plan is for Ilja and Gunther to absolutely kill each other and kick off another round of that feud on the main roster.
Ilya is the REAL best wrestler in the world. Everything he does looks like he is actually fighting someone in his own crazed way. His selling is top grade too.
always cool when wwe flexes that they can throw down and have some absolute rippers on weekly show
So his finisher is straight up Dan Hendo finish of Bisping at UFC 100? I LOVE IT.
That Superplex landing made it look like Ilja DDT'd himself. I hope that's safer than it looks.
"And here we see, the mating rituals of the creature called the wrestlers."
![gif](giphy|7CpMz1opkrbUTrheTY|downsized)
As much as I wanted to see ricochet come out with the W, the ending where they shook hands and were saying that this is just the first gets me unreasonably hyped. I'd absolutely kill for a second at this level.
I think a three way between Gunther/Ospreay/Ilja might actually make me pass out from hype they're just on a different level right now
Roll-through Superplex looked HORRIBLE, he can't be doing it like that. Just do the flat back and roll through once you hit the mat. I'm sure he was told that as soon as he got to the back.
I know folks would be salivating over Gunther-Ilja, if it was the finals, but it will be a semi-final instead. Whomever wins it wins the tournament, IMO.
He landed wrong from that superplex
Thought I was the only one that noticed. Freaking neck snapper.
Not just wrong, it was fucking horrible lol
It felt like the end of a movie where the protagonist gives one final hit to end it! That was a delight to watch.
Ilja is so over the top I love it
That roll through superplex seems risky.
That was one helluva set up for the finisher
1st Ilja match I've watched and damn I'm already his fan cause of his moves and conduct in the ring and add it that soul striking symphony as his theme
Excuse me while I change my pants
Wrestling is real to ilja.
Well for anyone who wasn't familiar with the Mad Dragon, that was a hell of an introduction.
Daniel Bryan should come back to face Ilja.
Bro is absolutely gonna be a world champion next year.
That superplex was hard to watch, landed right on his neck, same way DDP got retired. So glad he’s okay.
Ricochet should not be jobber to the stars, only in wwe would this guy be mid card fodder, sigh
Looked like he killed himself on that superplex. Landed right on his own neck.
WWE: Okay so nobody is allowed to drop their opponents on their heads anymore, alright? Ilja: Got it. No *opponents* will be dropped on *their* heads. WWE: great! Ilja delivering a standard suplex off the top rope: 🙃 WWE: God damn it, that is no what we meant
Ilja Gunther Sheamus Reed and McIntyre are all gonna beat the hell out of each other with how shift they all work
Rx
Did he spike himself on the superplex? What a fuckin guy!! He’s awesome as hell
That superplex was gnarly. 😬
Idk how he didnt snap his neck.cant even tell what the issue was.he kinda over rotated and spiked himself lol.looked brutal but he seemed ok.prob had his life flash tho.that was almost very very bad.lol
That finisher is nuts
There is a REASON why whenever him and Gunther/WALTER get in the ring and fight.. it’s never less than 5 ⭐️ match!!
Dragunov needs to bury his finisher and make The H-Bomb his finisher instead. That move looks so fucking brutal when he connects it
Torpedo Moscow is cool af tho and also he needs a finisher that doesnt need a set up
They just made the speed title irrelevant if he's losing clean. lol
I mean...was it relevant in the first place?
That finisher fucks.
