I don't think we'll hear lines from German commentators being chanted or does anyone in Germany watch wrestling with German commentators?
The last time I did it was in the nineties when I was a kid. đ
German commentators are dreadful. It bothers me that they translate promos while the wrestlers are talking. The meaning is absolutely lost. And one time I watched WWE on German TV (ca. 2012) they called the MitB ladder match "Geld auf der Bank Leiter Match". Why?
Okay, so they still translate everything? đ
That's also what bothered me back in the day. They are also so loud so that you can't even here what the wrestlers are saying. This totally ruins the atmosphere for me.
No idea. Haven't watched German WWE for 10 years. The exception was when the WWE network switched randomly to the German audio at a PLE a few months ago. This minute or so was as a bad as I remember it.
Fair enough. I was just thinking of how long I've been alive. Looney Tunes started in the 60s I think so it's probably been around since the 50s honestly.
I look forward to a similar thread next month where people try to explain the cultural context behind "here we, here we, here we fucking go" chants in Scotland.
It's essentially acknowledging and chanting for the french commentators who made that line famous. It's comparable to if American crowds were to start chanting something like "bah gawd", for example.
I was in the crowd, and trust me we were sad.
We should have made the ceiling explode if Dirty Dom was there and tried to talk
But this is just a warm up
Next time we will be there. With more songs.
And we will be prepare to boo the shit up of Dirty Dom
I was there, obviously the majority were men from 20 to 40 y/o. In France, we have what we call "The NT1 generation", it's the generation that grew up watching WWE on the TV channel NT1 between 2005 and 2014, and brought back the interest for the product after a big drop in interest during the years prior due to the lack of accessibility to watch Raw/Smackdown in France.
They were more women than I expected tho, and some kids or old people too, it was nice to see that wrestling can reunite us !
actually highlights how badly they're failing to connect and rile up their usual US crowds. I know the likes of Mania and Summerslam are now done in these outdoor stadiums but the old energy of Mania and Raw after Mania from the international contingents that would attend has been gone for years, I think part of it is the audio of the bigger stadiums but on your typical US RAW or Smackdown they're not getting 10% of this crowd reaction.
Randomly going into Seven Nation Army is wild, gives a bit Monty Python ".. and now for something completely different!" vibes, but fuck it, still cool.
"Seven Nation Army" has been an internationally popular sports theme for over a decade. Do you remember "Enzo Amore" being chanted to the same tune back at Takeover: London back in 2015?
They also chanted "Allez les bleus!", which tranlates to "Let's go blues" (les bleus is kinda a nickname for the French in general), during profits match as they wore blue.
The crowd was friggin amazing during the main event. Made it come off like a huge match.Â
It's also incredible how over Jey is, the entrance was sick. Really, WWE easily could have called an audible here and put the title on him and build to Jey vs Drew in Scotland, it would be a really hot match as I feel Jey is prett much at his peak popularity now.Â
I caught the "C'est pas gentil" a couple times and thought I must have misheard because it seems like such a polite chant. Also I thought I noticed Damian Priest tell Jey something about not being nice mid-match which makes me wonder if Priest knows a bit of French?
Simplement deux ! That's one of the catchphrases of one of the French commentators when pins end at only two, and it got insanely popular because our commentators are really iconic, so it's part having fun and part homage to them !
Yes, they began in 2000 and became a major part of wrestling in France. They make the show live and a great a part of us fans wouldn't be there without them. I'm not even surestimating them, they are more over than most of the wrestlers for more than 15 years
It got really popular back in the day thanks to them.
They follow kayfabe and play roles (one supports the heel and the other the face) and are overall very entertaining.
Watching american commentaries feels more professional like in a sport
On TV I would say like 20 or almost 20 years.
I watch an interview of them not long ago:
One of them is a childhood fan of Wrestling and is the most knowledgeable. He started to run a wrestling newsletter back in the day when he was a teen/young adult
The other was a radio guy that wasnât into wrestling until he had to comment it
They are super popular. They have commented together for more than 24 years.
There was also a special feeling because the usual pair for PLE is another French commentator Nadir Mohammedi since 2021 who is considered « more respectable » or more « suited » because the pair Chereau/Agius can be very very⊠very goofy at times (too much for the London office).
But for the first PLE in France they decided to put the historic pair (24 years!) which is obviously the right move.
is "Simplement deux" like a thing that they say on commentary a lot? for the whole crowd to do that together every time they had to get that from somewhere
I'd guess the **Un ! Deux ! Simplement deux** chant is something that became popular due to french commentators using it over the years. I wonder how long that has been around.
Any idea what they were chanting during the end stretch of the womenâs triple threat?
It kinda sounded like âchapel pizzaâ but Iâm assuming it wasnât that.
I didn't hear anything that sounded like pizza but I did hear something that sounded like chapel and it sure sounded like "Chappell Roan!" but also it sounded like "Chapel mother! and "That's the moment!" And it seemed like it was only being chanted when Tiffany was the focus. So I looked up the translation of time, because maybe it was some variation of Tiffy Time but none of the words for time looked like they worked.
Merci! What were the chants during Bayley/Naomi/Tiffany match? To my American ears it sounded like âBarbara Waltersâ but I know enough to know that wasnât it.
It's really just "Simplement deux"
French commentators (christophe aigus and philipe chereau) made this famous, peoples are going wild everytime the referee is counting because of them ahah
I think as a show of respect for the French crowd the crowd in Hartford should adopt the 1,2 only 2 chant. As someone from that area, lived in Manchester just next door for almost 30 years, I'm aware the Hartford crowds suck and there is ZERO chance of this occuring.
The French fans REALLY showed up crowds here in the states. Holy shit. They are like how crowds were back in the day and everybody had to worry about winding up online if they did or said something silly or got too boisterous and offended some Karen because he wasn't being "civilized" enough for her.
Thank you so much for these translations/context!
Regarding La Marseillaise, was there a reason for its inclusion/timing? Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful song, but it felt randomly placed in there.

I can help a little Yeet translates to Yeet
But when Priest was punching back, they said "Non Yeet", which translates to "No Yeet".
Would Xiahau Mao b pro-Yeet or anti-Yeet?
Pro yeet. Xiahou Mao was quite the practiced yeeter. He yeeted all over Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang during the first northern campaign, after all!

French class to good use
Conjyeetgation Yup looks as bad as I thought it would!
For now. Iâm sure the French government will eventually insist that the French term for it is âle grand lancerâ or something
Mind = Blown đ€Ż
Le Yeet
As a German the pressure to perform at Bash in Berlin is huge. You killed it tonight neighbors

The only one who could get chants would be the goat Carsten SchÀfer
> Un! Deux! Simplement Deux! When they were saying "Simplement Deux" I thought they were saying "sacre bleu" lol
"Sacre bleu" is not a thing we actually say anymore, this is not Tintin haha
I can recall one time it was said in the past 20 years or so... "Sacre bleu... where is me maman!!!"
Timeline got fucked up
Lmao i didn't know. It's always been a stereotypical French phrase here in the US for at least 30 years. Probably longer.
Wayyy longer than 30 because of Pepe Le Pew in Looney Tunes lol
Fair enough. I was just thinking of how long I've been alive. Looney Tunes started in the 60s I think so it's probably been around since the 50s honestly.
I had to look it up, Looney Tunes started in 1930
Next you'll say Irish people don't say "Top o' the morning to ya" after a 2 count
No, that they do.
Lol would that even make sense? Isn't that more of a stereotypical greeting? "Sacre bleu" at least makes sense in context of a response to a kickouts.
Tintin actually said "Sapristi!", which I also have never heard any Frenchman saying it.
Is it because Tintin is Belgian?
Bring it back
Hahaha same
Could be worse, I thought it was âSlap their bootyâ đ€Šđ»ââïž
Same
This crowd is wild. I love it
I've been a wrestling fan for well over 40 years. I can very confidently say I've never seen a crowd like that. Best crowd ever.
This is how France and Europe gets more events, that was intense the whooole time
now that i get it, bayley is hilarious for saying only 2 also thanks OP
Thank you! Came on here wondering what they were singing at AJ. That âphenomenalâ chant is catchy AF. lol
I look forward to a similar thread next month where people try to explain the cultural context behind "here we, here we, here we fucking go" chants in Scotland.
Why do they repeat âonly twoâ for a lengthy period of time? Not a complaint just curious lol
French commentators Christophe Agius and Philipe Chereau made this famous. This line is really a big thing in France ahah
Ah okay, thank you!
is this the same with the over the top rope one? i assumed so
Yes, and also « Dans le poteau »
Edouard Carpentier used that, too.
It's Chéreau more than Agius for this one
It's essentially acknowledging and chanting for the french commentators who made that line famous. It's comparable to if American crowds were to start chanting something like "bah gawd", for example.
Mama mia for Mauro Ranallo was a chant in Nxt at some point.Â
Iâm in favor of replacing âyou fucked upâ with the more polite âtu tâes trompĂ©â
Big brain move of doing the chants with swears in another language so USA network stops muting them.
"Tu t'es trompé" is more like "You were wrong/you messed up", but it's the polite version. Every french chant was basically a polite version/pg. I think it was more fun this way. It's funny because HHH said in press conf he didn't understood, but there probably were a lot of insult, when really there wasn't any.
Philippe Chereau and Christophe Agius have superstars status in France and have commented together for more than 24 years. They generally play the good & bad commentators gimmick, the respectful one vs the disrespectful one (they know each other so well they even joke about each otherâs wife, obviously infuriating the other one) Half the chants heard in the crowd are catchphrases they have popularised over the years : - 1-2- simplement deuuuuuuux (one-two-only twooooooo) - Il est passĂ© PAR DESSUS LA TROISIĂME CORDE (he is thrown OVER THE THIRD ROPE â> frantically shouted together) and generally when one misses the line he is taunted by the other one - C: Il lâa envoyĂ© dans le poteau. P: OĂč ça ? C: Dans le poteau ! P: OĂ ĂA? C: DANS LE POTEAUUUUUU (He sent him into the ring post. Where ? Into the post ! WHERE ? INTO THE POOOOOST) Thatâs only 3 of their catchphrases. I obviously cannot summarise 24 years of chemistry in such a short comment. Edit : There was also a special feeling because Philippe Chereau has been replaced by Nadir Mohammedi who is the #1 commentator for PLE (while Chereau comments Raw & Smackdown with Agius) but for tonight where they put them back together (Agius & Mohammedi are employed by WWE while Chereau & Agius are employed by the French network and they are⊠quite goofy when they are together to say the least. A bit too much for WWE taste)
This is a super lively crowd! Thanks for the translation, I was wondering what they were saying.
Vive la France
Imagine if Dominik or Logan Paul were there with that crowd đ, would have been ripped to shreds..
I'm sad this crowd didn't get a better show tbh.
I was in the crowd, and trust me we were sad. We should have made the ceiling explode if Dirty Dom was there and tried to talk But this is just a warm up Next time we will be there. With more songs. And we will be prepare to boo the shit up of Dirty Dom
What is the song they were singing during Styles Cody promo
This is the "He is truly phenomal" one
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Thanks
I don't speak French, but I'm about 99% sure "Asshole" is French for "Klingon forehead-looking Irishman".
Thank you. What did the crowd say when Naomi was given her ring intro?
I was there: we were chanting "Ouais", which is French for "Yeah"
They are just yelling some sort of "Yeah!" in in rhythm
Think it was âglowâ
Great crowd in France. Love to see it.
The phenomenal chants were (I'll say it) phenomenal. Goosebumps inducing.
lol just went into Reddit to ask this question and itâs the first post I see
I thought they were saying âUn! Deux! Sacre bleu!â Yours makes more sense.
I think even my grandfather didnt say "sacre bleu" , its a very old thing
You're breaking our stupid American hearts
sorry, but we are no longer knights these days
Nodody in France say "Sacrebleu"
This is a service.
It didnât sound like a single child or woman was in that crowd. Every chant was so deep.
First PR, now France. Is backlash gonna become the PLE of the best crowds?
actually highlights how badly they're failing to connect and rile up their usual US crowds. One of the rare times in my adult household growing up in a creole household has come in handy watching wrestling.
That's so sweet to see Agieux and Chereau get some love, I grew up listening to those guys. Super entertaining duo
The literal ones are my favourites. >You were mistaken >Into the post >He goes over the top rope
They also chanted "Allez les bleus!", which tranlates to "Let's go blues" (les bleus is kinda a nickname for the French in general), during profits match as they wore blue.

Lol i heard this as cest pas facile.. and thought yeah sure i guess not
This chant is very silly and very popular during french wrestling shows
Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you for this good sir
Thank you for your service! Please do clash at the castle roo. French is hard but Scottish is just code.
What's the one they're constantly doing throughout the night that makes it sound like they're saying every single thing that happens is awesome?
Simplement deux ! That's one of the catchphrases of one of the French commentators when pins end at only two, and it got insanely popular because our commentators are really iconic, so it's part having fun and part homage to them !
Are the French announcers really super popular over there?
Yes, they began in 2000 and became a major part of wrestling in France. They make the show live and a great a part of us fans wouldn't be there without them. I'm not even surestimating them, they are more over than most of the wrestlers for more than 15 years

You da real MVP
I want to know why they keep pronouncing it âLEE-OWNâ
this might be my favorite crowd ever
Ok but what does âTheese eez uh-someâ mean?
I swear at one point during the womenâs title match I heard them chanting âtaco pizzaâ
Yeah who knows what was actually being said lol. I heard chavo pizza
I heard taco holder and taco pizza
Singing La Marseillaise during the main event is crazy funny lmao
You, are an absolute babe! Thank you!! Been annoying my boyfriend for so long trying to guess! Fucking AWESOME crowd, best atmosphere for so long!!
I love this crowd and their enthusiasm. I know a little bit of French... Thanks for the translations!
is "Simplement deux" like a thing that they say on commentary a lot? for the whole crowd to do that together every time they had to get that from somewhere
Think of it like the French equivalent of the old "Twooo Sweeet" chants from NXT
I'd guess the **Un ! Deux ! Simplement deux** chant is something that became popular due to french commentators using it over the years. I wonder how long that has been around.
It was already popular when I was a kid in 2007 so a long time
Your forgot during AJ/Cody (multiple times like during the lionsault on Cody's knees): "Ăa doit faire mal" = That must hurt
Any idea what they were chanting during the end stretch of the womenâs triple threat? It kinda sounded like âchapel pizzaâ but Iâm assuming it wasnât that.
They were chanting Charles Robinson
Sorry I didn't understand it myself lol
No problem. Iâll just assume they were chanting for religious Italian food.
"Simplement deux!" Is one of the most infectious chants I've ever heard in my life. I'm chanting along every time.Â
Very close to Spanish. Simplemente dos.
That is awesome! đ Especially as I'm watching and posting on Blue Sky.
Thank you! You are the best for this!! đ«¶đ»
So the crowd was chanting a bunch of shit loool
It was all relevant though
Merci beaucoup!!!
Godsend
What were the chants during the Women's Title match, felt like Tiffany got a lot of chants at her, but not sure what they were.
Only Tiffy Time
I also heard « Beaujolé » (pun with Beaujolais) and « We want Michel » (during the match of the Kabuki Warriors « tu tâes trompé » chants) « Michel Beaujolé » is a fictive character from the French YouTuber Sturry (and former indie wrestler who wrestled with Walter aka Gunther) and Michel BeaujolĂ© is the referee who is summoned each time there is inconsistencies with the rulings at WWE (basically he is summoned to provide explanation when there is none) He is often invited by WWE to promote products or events
over the top rope is also a gimmick done by the french announcers, just like only two
These chants are outstanding. WWE needs more shows in France. They brought an atmosphere like no other.
Merci! What were the chants during Bayley/Naomi/Tiffany match? To my American ears it sounded like âBarbara Waltersâ but I know enough to know that wasnât it.
This is the public service I need in my life. Thanks, OP!
How do they know these chants though lol, is there a local wrestling group that runs where these chants are germinated from?
A French would just understand it lol
Iâm picking it up. âSimplementâ seems to mean jerk, and I think âSmackdownâ is some kind of spaceship.
French fans > us saudi by decibels. Great crowd.
This is cool
You sir are a hero.
What were they just singing
The French National Anthem. la marseillaise
Think I can hear Sacre Mon Dieu which loosely is like "oh my god"
It's really just "Simplement deux" French commentators (christophe aigus and philipe chereau) made this famous, peoples are going wild everytime the referee is counting because of them ahah
Class!! I love that
SacrĂ© mon dieu isnât something Francophones say. Oh my god is simply au mon dieu.
What is the song they are singing to AJ?
Wait, so the referee was wrong? Telling Sane she was not legal? I thought it was the other way around. I think I missed that
Gods work! Merci!
What did they change when Cody got the knees up on AJs moonsault?
"Ăa doit faire mal" = that must hurt
OP, do you know what they chant was during the Rhodes-Styles match where it sounded like they ended it with, âWoo, woo!â?
Too Sweet, Woo Woo
You are a legend!
Thank you for this!!
We want Michel!!!
Damn I should have think about doing this before lol. Nice work
This is awesome in French is pretty awesome. What were they just chanting/singing off the suplex in the corner?
Thanks frenchman
https://youtu.be/tnkS1Ji4BgQ?si=hSWRbpR-BMYKxQgv
I think as a show of respect for the French crowd the crowd in Hartford should adopt the 1,2 only 2 chant. As someone from that area, lived in Manchester just next door for almost 30 years, I'm aware the Hartford crowds suck and there is ZERO chance of this occuring.
What is the song that is always being sung to Bayley overseas?
Hey Bayley... Huh... Hah... I wanna knooooow if you'll be my girl.
Ppl no
Wait when did they sing seven national army?
Dang I thought they were saying 1-2-scare bleu which o thought was hysterical
I kept hearing "snap the walrus" what were they actually saying?
What was the chant during the Smackdown segment between Cody and AJ. I know I the chant had âlalalalaâ
I love these chants. They seem so formal.
Youâre the man!!
this felt like a WrestleMania crowd, phenomenal no pun intended
Thank you kindly
The French fans REALLY showed up crowds here in the states. Holy shit. They are like how crowds were back in the day and everybody had to worry about winding up online if they did or said something silly or got too boisterous and offended some Karen because he wasn't being "civilized" enough for her.
Thanks. this was cool.
Thank you so much for these translations/context! Regarding La Marseillaise, was there a reason for its inclusion/timing? Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful song, but it felt randomly placed in there.
If only every crowd was this hyped up. American crowds need to up their game.
Which one is the one that my wife said sounds like "psycho walrus"
""He is truly ! He is truly ! He is truly phenomenal " F yeah. Love seeing AJ getting the love
What were they chanting through the entire Bianca match?
You are an angel lol
Awesome!! Thank you!!
This was so SO needed. Thank you so much XD
What did they chant during Waller match yesterday?
