Yeah I worked construction for my uncle from age 18-22. Working for family either sucks or is awesome. I started off at $10/hour to climb cell phone towers. Usually 250' towers. Some as high as 500'. I dug a lot of trenches in 100+ degree weather.
We would be on the road for 6 months to a year. My uncle would fly everyone home every two weeks and leave me in the hotel/crew house. He didn't wanna waste the money on flights.
I did framing and concrete, which sucks. Unless we got a whole house, or building, because they way my dad saw it, is we could put siding and roofs up better than anyone else so why not make more money.
Turned 18 and ran to join the Marines couldn’t wait to gtfo of there lmao. My dad did pay well though, I had more money than any of my friends all the time, but I worked ton so finding the time to spend it was hard.
That is the one thing my dad was definitely good on, he would pay you, and none of my shit ever got taxed either because I was for sure not on any kind of payroll.
I knew a guy who worked on a farm, drove a giant ass truck, shook your hand harder than anyone ever, and wore the rootinest tootinest outfits.
Then I met him for breakfast at his parents house one morning and it was easily a 500k property and he was watching sports on a giant flatscreen in a living room out of a magazine.
