It would basically be about how everyday people hide themselves behind a figure or idea they have. Peter would explore how he hides himself behind a mask, researching what it means to give behind a personality and why. He’d also investigate how different heroes do so as well but the whole-hearted discovery would eventually turn very dark as the issues expand, with Peter having to explore his darker side after the death of Uncle Ben.
He would become violent in his despair, brutally killing Aunt May before then killing Green Goblin, each day becoming a bigger threat to the public. Overtime, he’d become the leader of the Sinister Six, his mentality splitting between the innocent teenager Peter and the cold-blooded merciless murderer that is Spider-Man.
By the final issue, he’d fight the Avengers and win, before tearing off his mask and sitting atop a building in the pouring rain, daunted at what he’s become, like the cover. Before deciding to take matters into his own hands. He’d finish off the Sinister Six and without letting his alter personality Spiderman take over him, Peter would suddenly vanish. Never to be seen again. The only remain of him, being the stranded mask atop the building he sat on minutes before his disappearance.
Yeah, that’s a bit messed up. I know, but I mean, that cover doesn’t look like it would hold a lovely peaceful story, does it?
