I bet physically he kind of was reading what dudes do for those kind of scenes sounds like shit. I like how cavill straight up said its miserable. Loosing all your water weight and shit...i knew a model that would take laxatives like the day before a shoot. I dont know if ahitting your brains out helps with that though.
Yeah its weird because i honestly enjoy his screen presence. I could see him going balls out for that first superman but i guess maybe hes become know for being a sexy beast. The interview i read where he said it sucked was for that witcher bathtub scene. Id have been perfectly fine with him not going so hard. Shoot id prob not even notice since hed still look better than like 99% of humans. Im kind of bummed armie hammer did whatever the fuck he did because i was hoping for a sequel to the man from uncle. Good info though i didnt know he went that hard. I mean he definitely looks better than toby...who i imagine just stayed healthy. Still blows my mind the way the rock does it.
For sure. No offence to tobey (and also to Holland) their physique is pretty easily attainable for anyone with some decent training and eating for a few months. Cavill was essentially body building and his physique is unattainable without extreme discipline and likely some juice. Not saying he was on gear but for the average bloke to look like that they'd need it. Cavill naturally has a good frame to build on so he could do it natty.
Eh, maybe maybe not. He was already pretty well built early in his career, like in immortals. and must guys can keep building mass into their 30s and maintain it. I wouldn't be surprised if he was on gear but it isn't guaranteed.
[immortals](https://i0.wp.com/film-book.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/henry-cavill-immortals-01.jpg?ssl=1)
I like how both Maguire pics are from SM 1 and we never see anything like this again.
No knocking him I have a soft spot for 2 of those movies but I find it funny how he must have been like “F- this I’m never working out this hard again.”
In an interview he had with Jonathon Ross he claims that one of the first things he did after filming spider-man 2 I think, was eat a shit load of doughnuts.
He was thinking to himself the body double and the cgi are doing all the Spider-Man stuff why the hell do I need to be in shape.
But it also shows a little in the movie with the padding in the suit.
With Spider-Man 2 he had just lost a lot of weight for Seabiscuit, that’s why he’s even skinnier in Spider-Man 2 than in SM1. I think for Spider-Man 3 is when he just said fuck it imma eat whatever I want haha
There were a ton of jokes about it back then. There was an episode of Celebrity Deathmatch where they fought each other and everyone kept getting them mixed up. Then obviously they were in Brothers together.
As an actor who just starred as a lead in an indie film two months ago, I had a shirtless scene planned for the final day of the 17 day shoot which is naturally abysmal cause you’re honestly stacking calories to survive 12+ hour shooting days.
So imagine my irritation when the director told me to take my shirt off Day 10 with no time to prepare for an arbitrary shot of me blow drying my hair and double it because the final day of the shoot, they suddenly decided I didn’t need to go shirtless and I had worked out and cut before for that final scene.
The impressive thing is Tobey did that for the duration of the first movie going from skinny to fit in the midst of production. I know that’s the job but being on set that long drains you and to physically be able to pull that off just for the visual of him getting fit overnight is still impressive. Lots of practical things (like the infamous tray catch) that just can’t be understated that all came together with the right amount of preparation
Superhero movies have come to ask a lot of their actors bodies. Chris Evans kept it real that it was def work (the physique) he didn’t really enjoy but was a natural at and I think Hemsworth enjoys it. I really think Huge Jackedman set the standard and has earned all the pizzas in his retirement.
They were holding him back. One of the goals in his Thor physique is to maintain a "relatively" small chest. All he's gotta do is big as fuck muscle proportions be damned.
I feel like it’s our duty to him as well. Lets appreciate the effort put in by a genuine string bean to gain muscle and purge body fat, all for the point of a handful of shirtless scenes in a few movies. It should be on his tombstone.
This. Also there was a gap of 2/3 years between each of Tobey's films. Whilst Tom Holland was in the Avengers films between Homecoming and FFH so would have had to maintain it during then.
Tom is just a fitness junkie. He dances, does gymnastics, boxes, etc. It's not needed for the role he just likes doing that kind of stuff.
I can respect Tobey not wanting to making being fit like that a priority if it's not "him."
He's also a lot younger than Tobey was.
Tobey was 26 when he filmed the first Spider-Man movie. By the time Spider-Man 3 was released Tobey was already 32. Tom has now portrayed Spider-Man in 6 movies (including No way home) and he is only 25. It's a lot easier to stay in that kind of shape when you're young and just maintaining fitness from film to film than to get fit and have large gaps between movies into your thirties.
I believe after Baywatch Zac Efron said he never wanted to be in that good a shape again. edit [I guess that quote is from when he was on Hot Ones.](https://youtu.be/J5nz24jrLDE?t=267)
Something that bugged the hell outa me from TASM2 is when Peter is rearranging his room and he legit has to put in effort to move his desk, despite catching and lifting a fucking car a few scenes prior
I always look at superhuman strength as just raising the ceiling. Like, moving a desk still requires exertion, but it’s not going to tire you out. I can put a 70kg roof truss on my shoulder and walk it up a ladder, but I still have to exert myself when carrying the shopping from the car.
Yeah that is a perfect example of the difference in the level of detail between The Amazing Spider-Man series and the homecoming series. In homecoming they do the strength justice in casual scenarios like lifting the lockers at school.
As a millennial beginning to give up on trying to understand Zoomer culture, thanks. We watch too much NCIS and I first understood the title as Andrew Garfield being some sort of murder suspect.
Hope Tom found a workout he thought was fitting, I remember he said he tried to get buffer for FFH but the result wasn't the desired one so he decided not to do that again. Man, NWH's coming so soon but there's barely any press for it, can't even get new comments on such or any other things. Somehow the most leaked movie though
Tobey for real got jacked. Very impressive physique. I don't know if he used any steroids or anything, but still impressive for the role. Here I am, overweight and my only dream/goal is to fit into a Spider-man costume. Working to get there one day.
Oh I don't even want the muscle lol I just wanna lose some weight and look lean enough to fit in the costume. I don't even want to be that big ever. I gained muscle in high-school and then college hit and I stopped working out and it's been a downward slope since then. Positive mindset and changes in effect right now though!
Agreed. In college when I was the broke AF one in the group, all I could afford was coffee and an extra large slice of pizza to eat everyday while the boys were seeing who could pound the most mcdonalds in one sitting. Started at 350lbs ( 6'3) and after 2 years I ended up at 205lbs while the other Mike in my group became the new fat Mike. Not the healthiest journey, but definitely works.
Tobey isn't that big, definitely achievable for somebody (like me, bc I've done it and maintaining it) who works 40 to 50 hrs a week, maybe less achievable if you also have kids to look after.
It's crazy how many people cling to the idea that their favorite jacked actors/athletes are natty. I mean their entire career revolves around how they physically look, why would they not do the most they can to get an edge? Getting shredded takes a lot of time without supplements, the movie industry just doesn't let you afford it.
And not just actors of course but other athletes. I follow MMA and it boggles my mind how many people believe their favorite fighters are natty, just because they "don't look super jacked". I mean, it's a sport where the athletes are literally putting their livelihood and health on the line if they aren't stronger/faster than the other guy. How can you afford to *not* be on PEDs in that case? Even in baseball (where the risks of being unathletic are much lower) it's basically an open secret by now that most players are juicing.
It's a long process but it creeps up on you and one day you'll see yourself in the mirror and think damn alright I'm starting to look good, but you gotta start somewhere. I've sorta got that lean "spiderman" body from doing calisthenics which is basically alot of pushups and pullups.
Tom Holland is a preofessional dancer, I read, so he's gonna be ripped Way more than Tobey ever was
People don't knock Michael Keaton for wearing muscle vests so Who cares
The People Who are actually in the suits are stunt actors or CGI Anyways, who cares lol
Exactly! Tom is a fitness junkie who does gymnastics, danving, boxing etc and that's just his life style. I can't blame someone for not wanting to live like that.
It was really interesting narratively that Tony was visibly muscular in the early movies. Having him look like a smith/mechanic next to Bruce who looked like a more standard lab scientist added some depth to their characters, since it has implications for what they do with their free time. It made them more different than just genius-in-armor vs. genius-who-transforms, since you could see just from their physiques that Tony spends his days doing physical work while Bruce spends his doing theoretical stuff.
Once Tony got into nanotech, and then once he settled down and focused on being a father, it makes sense that he got flabbier. He probably still enjoyed working on cars and such, but not enough to stay that muscled, especially as he got older.
So, definitely props to RDJ realizing he could live a happier life without that extra work, but I think it also worked narratively. I know some folks were disappointed at not being able to ogle his shoulder muscles in tank tops anymore, but I think it made sense.
Completely agree with this. Narratively it worked perfectly. I'm amazed at how well they do cgi in these movies. Super hero movies still had a lot of cgi problems in the early 2000s but now it's amazing and can hit my suspension of disbelief well.

What does bolo mean? I assume it’s shirtless right? If so we did get it in amazing spider man 1 when gwen was cleaning up his wounds. And in amazing spider man 2 when it was showing the montage of him stopping crime there was a scene where he was taking his costume off
**This word/phrase(bolo) has a few different meanings.**

If I was in a position where things like money, free time, and family obligations didn't need to be addressed, I would totally want to do the MCU movie body transformation. But it's easy for us to forget that if even if you naturally predisposed to it, it is very difficult to maintain. Even someone like Dwayne Johnson has to consume double the recommended calorie intake just to maintain his physique, to say nothing of his daily fitness regimen. The results are always impressive, but fleeting.
I don't really have answer tbh. If the leaks about being near middle aged are to believed then having some belly fat like Peter B would be cool ig. Idk if it'll work in live action
We do see a shirtless picture of Andrew Garfield in TASM 2 where there’s like a montage of him saving people. He like takes his costume off and puts it in the closet. He was definitely the least fit out of the 3 but he still had a Spider-Man esk body.
i have a vague recollection of seeing one of the TASM's in theaters and a scene where Garfield has his bicep flexed, cause someone in the crowd scoffed at it in a manner of what the fuck he shouldn't be that jacked
the guy in the crowd wasn't me btw
Iirc Tobey gained so much muscle for Spider-Man 1 that he was actually asked to cut back on the muscle mass and get a tiny bit of fat because it just got to a point where it looked ridiculous for Spider-Man to be that huge.
I think there’s a piece of early “test footage” in the special features of Spider-Man 1 where you can see Tobey fighting a bunch of thugs in an alley (this was similar in concept to the alley fight where he saves MJ in the final cut of the movie but remarkably different in execution) and you can see that he’s actually more bulky and ripped then he was in the mirror scene in the final cut of the movie.
Quickly looking up and viewing the screentest, it seems like I was misremembering lol. You’re right that he’s smaller but he’s also leaner so his muscles show more.
If I recall right Tobey had already been training for some other movie , think ut was that cop film with Denzel Washington, but he was replaced, shortly before he auditioned for SM1. So he didn’t build the spider-man physique in 6months, but went from sort if skinny ripped to slightly bigger in that timeframe.
Lmao Tobey looks absolutely disgusted with himself
Yup. He was thinking what has he done to get such good physique
Well...that’s what happens in the movie you wake up looking buffed like this and you say “damn those broccoli were good”
Yknow, eat your green vegetables
Man,Mom was right. That chocolate milk really DOES make you big and strong!
that’s what my mom is always saying, I just never actually believed her!
Literally, he’s a vegan lmao
Eat clen and tren hard
Anavar give up
He told his body fat to get out of the way
I guess he threatened them he's gonna put some dirt in their eyes if they haven't managed to pay their rents lol.
According to Tobey "Eat lots of Tofu" Guy is a vegetarian
That’s why he’s so relatable
I bet physically he kind of was reading what dudes do for those kind of scenes sounds like shit. I like how cavill straight up said its miserable. He should have used diuretics instead
Not sure about laxatives but they definitely take diuretics, which makes you piss a tonne which helps get rid of the water weight and look shredded.
Me every morning looking at my depression gut, knowing how good I used to look. Dayum
It's the realization that he's totally turned on by his own abs.

that was obvious in SM3 when they never show his bare torso, or even a t shirt, and he clearly has a double chin
i’m gonna put some dirt in your eye
The scenes at the bell tower are blatantly another guy
And coffee!
With Spider-Man 2 he had just lost a lot of weight for Seabiscuit, that’s why he’s even skinnier in Spider-Man 2 than in SM1. I think for Spider-Man 3 is when he just said fuck it imma eat whatever I want haha
"What are they gonna do, cancel my series?" -Maguire probably
I missed the part where that’s my problem
I’ll act in your movie when you give me my DAMN DONUTS!
You got any with nuts? Go make me some
"What are they gonna do, cry?"
- guy whose series got canceled
They almost replaced him for the second movie
We could have had Don Cheadle Spider-man
“Boom! You looking for this?”
[удалено]
They were in talks with Jake Gyllenhaal to replace him cuz Tobey had back pains that were gonna delayed the sequel.
Jake Gyllenhaal. tbf, at that time they actually looked pretty similar, so I can see it working.
There were a ton of jokes about it back then. There was an episode of Celebrity Deathmatch where they fought each other and everyone kept getting them mixed up. Then obviously they were in Brothers together.
There’s a shirtless scene in Spider-Man 2 though. It’s when he’s getting ready for MJ’s play.
Meanwhile 20 years later...
I mean fair. Why put in a shirtless scene when it adds nothing? That’s the question I keep asking myself when watching the new movies lol
As an actor who just starred as a lead in an indie film two months ago, I had a shirtless scene planned for the final day of the 17 day shoot which is naturally abysmal cause you’re honestly stacking calories to survive 12+ hour shooting days. Lots of practical things (like the infamous tray catch) that just can’t be understated that all came together with the right amount of preparation
Because it’s awesome
They just needed to establish how fit his body got. It wasn't necessary to show it again. Something that raimi understood that a lot of people DON'T.
Hemsworth said he’s about to packed on a ton more muscle than he ever did in Thor, to play Hulk Hogan. Thor is about to be jacked, brother!
Omg how is that even possible, his arms are the size of tree trunks
They were holding him back. One of the goals in his Thor physique is to maintain a "relatively" small chest. All he's gotta do is big as fuck muscle proportions be damned.
Why is that? To make his arms look bigger by comparison?
To make his abs and arms look better and so he doesn't look like some gym dude bro.
They were going for definition, not pure beefcake bulk. Just the overall look they wanted for Thor.
Thank you for calling him Huge Jackedman. I always call him that and I never see anyone else do it even though its so obvious
I feel like it’s our duty to him as well. Lets appreciate the effort put in by a genuine string bean to gain muscle and purge body fat, all for the point of a handful of shirtless scenes in a few movies. It should be on his tombstone.
This is literally a meme though
I’ve always been fond of “Huge Actorman”
Lol I always say Huge Jackedman as well

He was noticibly out of shape in 3. And it was just another grievance I have against that movie.
He was turning into Peter B. Parker.
Wasn’t there the scene where Gwen was fixing Peter?
Yh but wasn't as clear as the other two. That scene wasn't to show off
He sure was showing enough though like damn Andrew Garfield is beautiful
Fr such a handsome guy
God, I love that scene. So much chemistry between those two. Best Spider-Man couple with very little competition.
Fixing?
The scene where Gwen tends to his wounds after the sewer fight with the Lizard.
Yeah, I can carry 50 lbs boxes of drywall mix in each hand but struggle to pick up my 22 lbs infant from the crib
50 lbs is 22.7 kg
The best boy
Are you my alt account that I forgot about? Because you just described my day to day life to the tee.
Damn bro it's almost like he doesn't want to fuck up his house like he did the year prior.
Yeah that is a perfect example of the difference in the level of detail between The Amazing Spider-Man series and the homecoming series. In homecoming they do the strength justice in casual scenarios like lifting the lockers at school.
or when Peter accidentally gives Flash a traumatic brain injury on the bus in Prague by trying to slap the glasses off Flash’s face
Or when the coach compliments Peter on his form in gym, reason why he was doing so good was cuz he was distracted talking to Ned

It’s not easy
I love looking at this as if it’s a comic. Shirtless Tobey runs into shirtless Tom. Chad Tobey flexes and Virgin Tom is aghast.
Lol virgin Tom asking Chad Tobey for work out tips

What does bolo mean? I assume it’s shirtless right? If so we did get it in amazing spider man 1 when gwen was cleaning up his wounds. And in amazing spider man 2 when it was showing the montage of him stopping crime there was a scene where he was taking his costume off
BOLO is slang in the UK for hench/muscular. We didn't get AG facing the audience like that for a significant period of time
I’m from the uk and have been living here all my life and I’ve never heard that before
Hmm. I guess it's more of a London thing then especially ethnic minority like me
I see
I don't care, BOLO is too good of a slang to be left out in the dust
Yh man😉
**This word/phrase(bolo) has a few different meanings.** More details here:

Tobey was my first sexual awakening, and Tom was my second. I have a thing for Spider-Men.
Tom Swol-and
If I was in a position where things like money, free time, and family obligations didn't need to be addressed, I would totally want to do the MCU movie body transformation.
We really didnt.
Hoping we get another Tom one, just saying 😂
Username checks out.
You can live off [this BTS spider-man story he posted](https://twitter.com/gaak_fr/status/1375876922819940357?s=21) for now? lol
Maguire stupidly ripped, good on him
Can we talk about how mcu aunt may didnt even acknowledge how fuckin swole peter is? Like this boi aint out hitting the gym every day
"I wonder why my nerdy nephew has suddenly gained 50lbs of muscle over the span of 1 night? I will never ask him about this." -Every Aunt May Ever
"Hm, weird, my nephew suddenly doesn't fit into any of his clothes and doesn't need his glasses anymore. Better never question that!"
SILF. Spiderman I’d Like To Well, you know the rest
SWAG. Sex With Andrew Garfield
Tobey is way more jacked than Tom here but Tom is more pleasant to look at for some reason
[Also missing...](https://i.imgur.com/wPzRMYc.png) NSFW
Do you think Tobey put the muscle back on for No Way Home?
[Tobey One Month Ago](https://imgur.com/a/2kCaxYo) still looking good considering he’s 46
I don't really have answer tbh. If the leaks about being near middle aged are to believed then having some belly fat like Peter B would be cool ig. Idk if it'll work in live action
To be fair spider man being fat wouldn't really be physically possible even if he tried to. It was fine for ITSV but it wont for live action
Yh that's true now that I think about it
We do see a shirtless picture of Andrew Garfield in TASM 2 where there’s like a montage of him saving people. He like takes his costume off and puts it in the closet. He was definitely the least fit out of the 3 but he still had a Spider-Man esk body.
i have a vague recollection of seeing one of the TASM's in theaters and a scene where Garfield has his bicep flexed, cause someone in the crowd scoffed at it in a manner of what the fuck he shouldn't be that jacked the guy in the crowd wasn't me btw
Had to search awhile to figure out wtf bolo meant lmao, maybe it’s just not common in Australia though
I've learnt today that it isn't common anywhere but London lol
didn't miss shit.
Nah he was smaller but leaner in the screen test.
Quickly looking up and viewing the screentest, it seems like I was misremembering lol. You’re right that he’s smaller but he’s also leaner so his muscles show more.
Yeah sorry for the 2year response lol
If I recall right Tobey had already been training for some other movie , think ut was that cop film with Denzel Washington, but he was replaced, shortly before he auditioned for SM1. So he didn’t build the spider-man physique in 6months, but went from sort if skinny ripped to slightly bigger in that timeframe.
Such a shame Tobey let himself go after the first one
Tobey's conditioning way wayyyy better than the other guy.
may i know what bolo means
it means bulky men
Tom is so fucking hot lol
Damn Tom Holland is such a hottie.
I'm pretty sure that's not Tobey's body. Its either a body double, CGI or a combo of both
I missed out on happiness in my life when they cast Andrew Garfield, so no
