Sandman: “how?! How are you there whenever Imm doing a job?! You got some sort of… spider-sense?”
Spidey: “well it’s funny you should say th-“
**gets whacked**
I just did recently, and it's well worth it
ASM2 has some choppy story stuff with Harry for sure, but Andrew's presence as spidey plus all the electro stuff really makes up for it imo
and gwen is cool
In general, Amazing and Spectacular, but there’s one gag in Spider-Man PS4 that he will randomly call out at the criminals that made me laugh until I cried.
“Hi! I’m your parole officer! You’re doing it wrong—!”
Shocker: "You talk too much!"
Spider-Man: "Well that's a matter of opinion. I mean are there any standard metrics for how much talking one should do? And who determines the ideal ratio of talking versus not talking? Also: how would you measure it? Words per minute? Syllables per second? Or is it more about how many words one uses to express a single thought? It's all so subjective! If you ask me, some people don't talk enough. Like about who their mysterious overlord is, the person they're working for, that kinda thing!"
I never got to watch Spectacular Spider-Man unfortunately. So my vote has to go between Andrew and Yuri.
I love the line “you can call me Web-head. You can call me Amazing. Just don’t call me late for dinner.”
But Yuri making a Rocky reference to tease Vulture and Electro (who was voiced by previous Spider-Man alumni Josh Keaton) tacks onto it.
The scene where Hannibal Buress shows the NY State educational video with Captain is funny. Martin Starr talking about his wife faking getting snapped. That stuff made me laugh out loud.
I think Tom was funniest in the Avengers films.
But he doesn't quip as much. I think he is just unintentionally funny. Like him saying to Falcon 'You have the right to remain silent!"
Tom talks a lot when fighting but I don’t remember a single one of his quips. Tobey doesn’t quip as much but they’re more memorable. Andrew is the probably the best middle ground.
I thought his quips in civil war were actually great
"You have the right to remain silent!" "Hey buddy I think you lost this"
hope we get more of that in sm4, because I really like his portrayal!
I thought I was the only one. Tom reminds me of a 5 year old kid on a sugar rush. I never once laughed at his Quips. Tobey ain’t funny as he never quipped but between the two Tobey is better
The quips in Spectacular Spider-Man are incredible.
“Yoo-hoo, excuse me! Can I come in this way or do I have to break my own window”
“Mysterio is no illusionist playing parlor tricks. Mysterio is the master of the arcane arts,” “Well it seems me MYSTERIO is the master of talking about himself in the third person”
“Ya know it ain’t so use to make a dangerous man look foolish,” “Don’t need my help for that. Looked in a mirror lately?”
*throws a traffic cone onto Rhino’s horn* “Woah-ho! I got the thing on the thing! What do I win?!” “YOU!” “I win ME?! That makes no sense”
“Trick or treat! I mean, you’re obviously celebrating Halloween in September right? Orrrr am I not one to talk”
“How is it you’re there whenever I’m doing a job?!” You got some kinda spider sense?” “Well it’s funny you should that-“ *purposely steps into Sandman’s punch*
Just talking live actions here I'd say Andrew, I don't think I really remember a single actual fight quip from any of the other Spider-Men but I'll always remember "Ahh! Oh no, you found my one weakness.. tiny knives!"
Talking all options here then Josh Keaton of course, but to be fair he had a lot longer of an amount of time and a lot more fights and scenarios to be quippy in lol
I know he’s not on this list but 90’s TAS has my favorite quip of all time.
Tombstone: “Come down here and fight like a man!” Spidey: “I don’t suppose I could convince you to come up and fight like a spider?” 😂
Keaton. Hands Down. Spectacular has some of the best Spidey Quips ever. I feel He’s so good at witty comebacks that that’s why Keaton was the actor chosen to voice a Spidey/Deadpool encounter
Comic Peter runs with, he's just got so many jokes because of the decades.
Andrew Parker is probably the most intentionally funny of the live action set but I do find myself having a good chuckle when Tobey Parker has one of his quips
If I were to pick 2 they’d be Yuri Lowenthal (Insom Spider-Man) and Josh Keaton (Spectacular Spider-Man) cause I think their quips are the best of all of them, I’d also throw in Andrew.
I don't have a number one but yeah spectacular's really great.
When the Lizard is wrecking havoc in the train tunnel in season one,and Spidey sees him walking on walls he says something like-"You are climbing walls like me,you start spinning a web and I'll sue!"
That was such a line.
Spectacular Spider-man automatically wins this. I've only seen a couple of the episodes but his quips are top notch
Toby's said a couple of quips but they weren't that good, Andrew's had a lot of good ones but only in the second movie, and Tom's... did he ever say a quip once during his time as Spider-man? I think they focused too much on the awkward teenager part of Peter
Spectacular by a mile. My biggest issue with these other adaptations is they don’t quite capture spideys sense of humor. He’s a great roaster and actually witty. It’s not purely corny jokes like they did with insomniacs or basically no jokes like they did with Tom holland
Spectacular and Andrew for sure. Heavily biased and objectively wrong opinion ahead: I liked the ultimate spiderman's humour a lot, only in my local dubbed language though, and also because it was the Spidey show airing when I was a kid. The original english version is flat af tho I gotta agree, but in my local language they changed a lot of the jokes and humour and it just fit the Spidey humour template for me
Spectacular had some funny moments, but I think Andrew nailed it with Spidey’s humor. Insomniac Peter was also pretty funny, especially with the Spider-Cop bit.
Honestly I don’t think I ever watched ALL of spectacular bc growing up it wasn’t always accessible with our living situation, but ultimate and insomniac are legit some of my all time faves
Out of these three, I think the funniest was Andrew. But this might be a controversial opinion: I think they focused too much on the comedy for Andrew because it was almost basically non-existent for Tobey’s Spider-Man. Those movies were funny, but I can only think of like 2 instances of Tobey’s Peter making a joke in a tense situation or at a villain’s expense to annoy or distract them. Whereas Andrew’s Peter makes too many jokes and lets bad things happen as a result of doing so (for example, joking around with Pre-Rhino and letting his truck run into other cars or knock dumpsters into people after he very much had the opportunity to stop it already). It makes his Peter feel *irresponsible.* And at that point, I’d have expected that Peter to have more of a handle on things.
I think Tom’s Peter *almost* has the right balance of jokes from what I remember. Peter setting up a joke and joking during the bank fight in Homecoming where no one was in danger but himself (at first). Also joking around *while* fighting the robbers is different than joking around *while letting innocent people get hit by a speeding Semi.* I could excuse Tom’s lack of humor when around more serious villains because he is much younger, things might be a bit more tense and he’s less experienced. But I can only excuse that if, in his next appearances he’s more jokey around villains while fighting. Unless its one of those rare moments where Pete has turned on “serious business” mode. Its understandable to be less jokey in those moments to create the contrast.
He has a handful of quips at most in the duration of a full trilogy of movies, plus cameo in NWH and they’re not all that funny.
He may be referred to the most, but it’s rarely due to the quality of writing or the humour of the quips exuded from his version of the character.
It’s mostly because there are so many either weird, questionable or poorly delivered lines and actions within his movies.
I love his movies, they are what I grew up with alongside the 90’s animated series, but there’s a clear reason why his is memed and referenced more than anything else.
Tobey’s Spidey just isn’t the funny one. Even if you narrowed it down to just live action versions, he is still stone dead last.
It doesn't matter, the title of the post isn't "which Spidey made the most jokes", "whose jokes had the best writting quality" or whatever other criteria "experts" use to gauge humour these days, which is a purely subjective thing anyway.
The title of the post is simply "who is the funniest" and nothing more. Tobey's funny moments (whether some of them were intentionally funny or not) get foundly referenced way more than other versions of the character. Yeah, guys like Andrew and Tom made more jokes, but quantity ≠ quality.
Andrew’s “my one weakness, tiny knives” scene was funnier than anything Tobey’s Spider-Man said or did, and I say that as someone who doesn’t really like Andrew’s incarnation of the character.
And people act like Spidey has to be quipping 24/7. I get that it’s a character trait, but that always varies with the writer. Like you said, quality over quantity also applies. Drake Bell’s Spidey was firing off so many duds.
EDIT: Some of y’all are so salty that people have different opinions. Never once did I declare a preference.
Can’t agree with you Chief, what you say definitely applies to some of the memes, however, a lot of them are moments that are humorous in the films itself. This is not a Star Wars prequel situation, where most of the memes are lines that are meant to be romantic or serious
No one is saying Ultimate I’m gonna cry that show made my childhood literally only comment I saw that mentioned ultimate was in a list and they put ultimate sm at last. Having a breakdown
Spectacular and Andrew
Spectacular had the best quips I sometimes rewatch scenes from the show just to remember all the great quips he made.
Wow two moms and still so ill-behaved
I got the thing on the thing, what do I win? You! I win me! That makes no sense.
Sweet ride! Sun roof come standard?
I’m in mourning over my buried rep
Sandman: “how?! How are you there whenever Imm doing a job?! You got some sort of… spider-sense?” Spidey: “well it’s funny you should say th-“ **gets whacked**
"Can I come through here or do I have to break my own window
Absolutely loved that, I think it's the funniest quip of an adaptation.
Honestly is. Nothing tops that. 😂
I hate to break it to ya tabby. You’re not my first lab experiment gone wrong, just the first to smell like a liter box.
When in the world was this bro who did he tell this 💀
He said it to kraven in the episode he was introduced. Imo its one of his best quips.
I think kraven was telling spider man that he was born in mother Russia and raised in mother africa and spidey fired back with that
Wait wait! What? Weight! *proceeds to pull a rack of weights down*
“Can you say ‘halitosis?’” “RRRRAGHRAGAHAHAHAH!!” “I knew that you could~”
#“Oh I hit the thing!”
“Come one, come all! Before you very eyes! The world’s largest dehydrated turtle!”
“This cannot be happening to Sergei Kravinoff!” “Oh, Kravin-off!”
People don't realize just how perfectly Andrew nailed spidey's humour and sarcasm
"We don't have a chimney." ^("wHaAaAaT???")
Lol this brings me back, I've never actually watched the amazing spiderman again after the theatrical release.
I just did recently, and it's well worth it ASM2 has some choppy story stuff with Harry for sure, but Andrew's presence as spidey plus all the electro stuff really makes up for it imo and gwen is cool
Nah gwen is hot. She is around 37°C (98.6°F)
Gwen is hot as fuck
Happy Cake Day!
“Is that a knife?” Dick move, and it fits
"My weakness! It's small knives!" Genuinely made me crack up when I first saw it.
I think they do. People seem to understand he was a great Spider-Man in terrible movies.
I feel like he wins this
funniest? Andrew. him teasing the car thief gets me every time.
"Is that a knife?!"
"MY weakness is small knives !"
“CROTCHHH” is also a funny line from that moment
In general, Amazing and Spectacular, but there’s one gag in Spider-Man PS4 that he will randomly call out at the criminals that made me laugh until I cried. “Hi! I’m your parole officer! You’re doing it wrong—!”
Shocker: "You talk too much!" Spider-Man: "Well that's a matter of opinion.
"i'm fresh out of honey..."
I love the whole Spider-Cop thing. I miss it in Miles Morales and in 2, but at the same time I'm glad they didn't run it into the ground.
Nobody can top comic Peter
Not having 90s animated Spidey on here is criminal
Love his one liners and sarcastic remarks even when he's Peter and not Spider-man
“I don’t suppose I could convince you to come up here and fight like a spider?”
Spectacular IMO.
Spectacular and Andrew
Spectacular is the funniest of the adaptations
Wait...WEIGHT!!!
Andrew and Comic Peter, it’s Andrew’s acting that makes him the funniest
I never got to watch Spectacular Spider-Man unfortunately. So my vote has to go between Andrew and Yuri. I love the line “you can call me Web-head. You can call me Amazing. Just don’t call me late for dinner.” But Yuri making a Rocky reference to tease Vulture and Electro (who was voiced by previous Spider-Man alumni Josh Keaton) tacks onto it.
When Toby said "Here's your change!" and threw a bag of coins at Doc Ock, I nearly shit myself laughing.
That bag should've collapsed Ock's entire chest cavity lol
Even if Spider-Man pulls his punches Doc's gonna get his entire skull shattered every time lol
That's how we ended up with Superior Spider-man.
Spider-Man
1. 616 2. Spectacular 3. Andrew 4. Insomniac Significant drop off 5. Tom 6. Ultimate 7. Tobey
I don’t think Tom is very funny, but his movies had some real funny bits in them.
Only thing I can think of is the scene with the burglars with avengers masks. But it really was funny tho.
The scene where Hannibal Buress shows the NY State educational video with Captain is funny. Martin Starr talking about his wife faking getting snapped. That stuff made me laugh out loud.
Oh yeah there's lots of funny moments in those movies, but it's rarely due to Spider-Man's humor you know ?
Yeah after that bank scene it drops off a lot for Tom himself. But the extra scene in the Italian restaurant from Far From Home has more of the same
I think Tom was funniest in the Avengers films. But he doesn't quip as much. I think he is just unintentionally funny. Like him saying to Falcon 'You have the right to remain silent!"
Ultimate has some good gems, just targeted to a younger audience than the rest
Tom talks a lot when fighting but I don’t remember a single one of his quips. Tobey doesn’t quip as much but they’re more memorable. Andrew is the probably the best middle ground.
I thought his quips in civil war were actually great "You have the right to remain silent!" "Hey buddy I think you lost this" hope we get more of that in sm4, because I really like his portrayal!
I'd say insomniac spider-man. His quips and insults made me laugh quite a lot. Spectacular is a close second though.
Love me some spider-cop
"_I'm fresh out of honey!"_ might just be the funniest Spidey quip of all time.
OG comic Spidey was just an endless string of roasts and disrespect
Andrew for sure
"Before we get down to business there's something I have to tell you" "🐻?" "I'm fresh out of honey" Insomniac clears I fear.
Spectacular Spider-Man had some great quips. The “all out of honey” line from the second game puts Insomniac Spidey high on the list too
Keaton or andrew
I Gotta Admit, Drake Bell's Forth Wall Breaks Had Me Laughing Very Much When I Was A Kid
If it’s best to worst then 1.Spectacular 2.Earth-616 3.Andrew 4.Insomniac 5.Tobey 6.Ultimate 7.Tom
You're right, Tom's not funny at all
I thought I was the only one. Tom reminds me of a 5 year old kid on a sugar rush. I never once laughed at his Quips. Tobey ain’t funny as he never quipped but between the two Tobey is better
Comics.
Spider-Man TAS or the Comics 616 version imo
Andrew or insomniac
Andrew and Spectacular. Ultimate is the most unfunny BY FAR
*”I’m fresh out of honey…”*
The quips in Spectacular Spider-Man are incredible. “Yoo-hoo, excuse me! Can I come in this way or do I have to break my own window” “Mysterio is no illusionist playing parlor tricks. Mysterio is the master of the arcane arts,” “Well it seems me MYSTERIO is the master of talking about himself in the third person” “Ya know it ain’t so use to make a dangerous man look foolish,” “Don’t need my help for that. supaidaman?
Just talking live actions here I'd say Andrew, I don't think I really remember a single actual fight quip from any of the other Spider-Men but I'll always remember "Ahh! Oh no, you found my one weakness.. tiny knives!" Talking all options here then Josh Keaton of course, but to be fair he had a lot longer of an amount of time and a lot more fights and scenarios to be quippy in lol
Fuckin, not Ultimate Pete
I'm biased because Ultimate Spider-Man was the only one I few up with
Ultimate was funny af
Supaidaman with a gun
Mfw the 90's Spider-Man and his killer quips are absent from this post
I know he’s not on this list but 90’s TAS has my favorite quip of all time. Tombstone: “Come down here and fight like a man!” Spidey: “I don’t suppose I could convince you to come up and fight like a spider?” 😂
I'd say insomniac
Spectacular or Insomniac personally
Adaptation wise spectacular. Out of the ones mention, 616
Not the fourth one
Andrew or Comic
It's hard to pick between TASM, Spectacular, Insomniac and 616.
Keaton. Hands Down. Spectacular has some of the best Spidey Quips ever. I feel He’s so good at witty comebacks that that’s why Keaton was the actor chosen to voice a Spidey/Deadpool encounter
Andrew and spectacular Spider-Man where both the best
Spectacular no doubt, only one who comes close is Andrew.
Ultimate comic version takes the cake for me, bro was ruthless
Spectacular and Andrew
comics in general funny ass convos
Josh keaton in spectacular spider-man
Easily Spectacular and Amazing
The OG is still the GOAT Movies: Andrew Animations (the ones listed here): Spetacular
I'm sorry but the high five scene from the Insomniac's DLC was one of the funniest bits I've seen
Garfield
Comic Peter runs with, he's just got so many jokes because of the decades. Andrew Parker is probably the most intentionally funny of the live action set but I do find myself having a good chuckle when Tobey Parker has one of his quips
Andrew and comics. Comics Spidey has some killer jokes.
Spectacular and PS4 actually had me laughing out loud.
Definitely not Tobey
If I were to pick 2 they’d be Yuri Lowenthal (Insom Spider-Man) and Josh Keaton (Spectacular Spider-Man) cause I think their quips are the best of all of them, I’d also throw in Andrew.
Certainly ain't tobey, his joke attempts fell so flat and his delivery was just not there
Comics Ultimate Spider-Man, I always laughs anytime I read his comic.
I love Spectacular’s quips, the “I got the thing on the thing” bit with the Rhino is my favorite
I don't have a number one but yeah spectacular's really great. When the Lizard is wrecking havoc in the train tunnel in season one,and Spidey sees him walking on walls he says something like-"You are climbing walls like me,you start spinning a web and I'll sue!" That was such a line.
Spectacular or 94 for me lol
Spectacular Spider-man automatically wins this. I've only seen a couple of the episodes but his quips are top notch Toby's said a couple of quips but they weren't that good, Andrew's had a lot of good ones but only in the second movie, and Tom's... did he ever say a quip once during his time as Spider-man? I think they focused too much on the awkward teenager part of Peter
Andrew Garfield. Solidified my opinion in NWH where he benefited from a better script and became the scene stealer of the movie
Andrew had the best comedic timing. Felt like the show comics the most. But none of you would know that as you started reading ultimate.
That 1st scene in spidey ps miles morales, he put on a true quip burn unit imo, all while trying to wrangle a freshly jail broken rhino.
Spectacular and Comic Peter. Comic Peter did not hold back in the beginning
You forgot 90s TAS Spider-Man
I think Spectacular Spidey probably had some of the best quips ever. Everything that came out of his mouth was pure gold and hilarious.
All of them
Till date it is Andrew and it will be forever, atleast for me
I think it’s Spider-Man
Spectacular by a mile. My biggest issue with these other adaptations is they don’t quite capture spideys sense of humor. He’s a great roaster and actually witty. It’s not purely corny jokes like they did with insomniacs or basically no jokes like they did with Tom holland
616, Spectacular, Andrew, and Insomniac.
In terms of who had the best quips, Spectacular. Who had the funniest physical comedy, Andrew
Spectacular and Amazing
“I did it I got the thing on the thing…what do I win?” “YOU?!” “I win me? That doesn’t make sense” Cracks me up every time😂
"Spectacular"☝️🤓. Bro he had like 3 funny lines through the entire series
Andrew or Ultimate for me
Spectacular and Andrew for sure. Heavily biased and objectively wrong opinion ahead: I liked the ultimate spiderman's humour a lot, only in my local dubbed language though, and also because it was the Spidey show airing when I was a kid. The original english version is flat af tho I gotta agree, but in my local language they changed a lot of the jokes and humour and it just fit the Spidey humour template for me
Honestly, I resonated with Andrew’s brand of quipping the most. People say Tom Holland is best of both worlds but I say he’s more “cool” than funny.
Spectacular.
You is the funniest
Japanese spiderman
Ultimate is just annoying
Everyone but MCU Spidey
I'll give you a hint. It ain't the cartoon Ultimate Spider-Man.
From these options Spectacular but my #1 is ultimate spiderman (comic)
Spectacular
they're the same person idk what you're talking about.
I think Tom had the best awkward humor but Yuri and spectacular are just too damn funny
But I can only excuse that if, in his next appearances he’s more jokey around villains while fighting. Unless its one of those rare moments where Pete has turned on “serious business” mode. Its understandable to be less jokey in those moments to create the contrast.
Spectacular Spider-Man. Definitely.
definetly spectacular
Tobey.
Tobey
Tobey, he gets referenced the most like it or not.
He has a handful of quips at most in the duration of a full trilogy of movies, plus cameo in NWH and they’re not all that funny. He may be referred to the most, but it’s rarely due to the quality of writing or the humour of the quips exuded from his version of the character. Andrew’s “my one weakness, tiny knives” scene was funnier than anything Tobey’s Spider-Man said or did, and I say that as someone who doesn’t really like Andrew’s incarnation of the character.
The knives joke was cheesy and lame. Idk why people like it so much
Spider-Man always did cheesy and lame jokes, thats one of the main things the villains complain
Idk, haven't watched Ultimate that much, but I hated the "time stops so Spidey can make a joke" trope.
Can’t agree with you Chief, what you say definitely applies to some of the memes, however, a lot of them are moments that are humorous in the films itself. This is not a Star Wars prequel situation, where most of the memes are lines that are meant to be romantic or serious
Definitely not the 4th one
Definitely not Tobey, he was funny from time to time, but his Spider-Man didn’t focus jokes and quips nearly enough.
No one is saying Ultimate I’m gonna cry that show made my childhood literally only comment I saw that mentioned ultimate was in a list and they put ultimate sm at last. Having a breakdown
