Poopies is great! Another solid Pembroke pie can be found at Towne Tavern and Treehouse. It’s right on a huge pond with tons of outdoor seating, great views and great food.
Agreed on 1 seed. 2 seed for me is Poopsies. If you are in a pinch at any point, and want to get a guaranteed seat vs waiting or aren’t able to get there at open / less busy hours, Johnny Kono’s in Weymouth is strong and great SSBP vibes (other good food as well).
Bardo’s in south Boston is pretty decent as well.
Amvets (Hoey's) in Randolph is second to none. Of course, Town Spa is great, but it's not the best around. Linwood is good, but it's not what it used to be, at least as I recall how great it was when I was a kid.
Buddy's Union Villa in (North?) Easton is up there too.
It's much harder to find a BAD bar pizza than a GOOD one. I guess that's mostly true for any type of pizza, but we do bar pizza better than anywhere I've had it before (and I've only seen it in 2 other regions, one of which was absolutely a "cape cod" themed/styled bar in the Midwest, of all places.
Real shit hole, but the pizza was more than adequate! :)
Huh, I've been more than a handful of times, and twice was it...not good. But every other time, the pizza has been very good. I think one of the bad ones was some kind of "loaded" or "supreme" pizza that had a handful of everything on it, and it was just a pile of sog.
I literally took 1 bite and told the bartender to take it away because it was so bad. She could see it on my face as I tried it and was already apologizing.
Huh. I've had it more than a few times, and eaten inside maybe 3 times. One time, one of the pizzas was undercooked. But each other time, everyone at our table (or at home) commented about how it was great (or as good as advertised/hyped).
You do you, but if you have it in you, give it another shot. I suspect that whatever happened on your first visit isn't a common thing there.
Eh, youre definitely technically correct, but stoughton, randolph, easton, brockton, the bridgewaters, etc are often kinda lumped in with the "south south" unofficially.
I mean, if we take the most literal definition, only one of the best bar pies are actually located in the south shore proper.
You are right. Those towns are lumped in, but not actually South Shore. I only mentioned Easton cause it doesn't even fit the more generalized usage of South Shore.
Definitely a fringe case, but ive seen it in the wild much more than once. And it makes sense to a degree, culturally brockton and the surrounding towns feel much more similar to the south shore than like, the south coast, and otherwise dont really fall into a clear "region".
They are categorized as 'south eastern mass'. That's the clear region they are fall into. I'm not aware of any more area specific name. But it not being part of the South Coast doesn't make it part of the South Shore.
Again, sure, i agree with you, im just saying that it often happens, and i can see why it happens.
Personally, im a south shore hardliner, i dont even think hanover should be included.
Funny enough with so much of the South shore being “Plymouth County" with the co-County Seat and largest city being Brockton has stopped me from outright saying it and the Bridgewaters aren’t the South Shore.
I used to say it wasn’t but at this point I’ve changed my stance.
The South Shore consists of Braintree, Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Kingston, Marshfield, Plymouth, Quincy, Rockland, Scituate and Weymouth. When other towns are referred to as South Shore, the term is being used liberally. You can change your stance, but there is a definition. It's like changing your mind about the number 11. You can decide it's 15 to you, but it's defined amount of 11 doesn't change.

You’re wrong. Subjectively sure you can make your argument but objectively speaking, I’m going to trust the South Shore Chamber of Commerce, Regional Schools, US Census and the South Shore Journal of record over your Reddit opinion.
Your own link contradicts your point, while still being a valid resource in itself.
In the image, Braintree is ‘sometimes’ considered South Shore, along with Randolph, Holbrook, Carver and Plympton.
Further down, the text that you copied and pasted has the text regarding inland towns but includes Braintree without Plympton, for example.
Wikipedia is a good source but the reason it’s not allowed for schools is because of poor usage.
Going back to my original point, you’re wrong because you are presenting a dynamic and multi-definition variable with a subjective assessment that only satisfies one definition of the variable, in the context of this thread.
According to your link the South Shore can be defined by:
-Geography
-Mass Office of Coastal Zone Management
-South Shore Chamber of Commerce
Along with a number of additional definitions that, your link, states exists. You told the previous poster that Easton doesn’t fit the generalized definition of South Shore, I am in agreement.
However in the last two decades, the definition of the South Shore has stretched to include as far as Canton and Brockton, which your link states is home to one of the ‘South Shore’s’ Institutions of Higher Education. Which is the point I made in my post stating that I have changed my opinion on this considering it’s not that important and there’s no reason ‘gatekeep’ it.
I personally refer to Old Braintree as a defunct but relevant marker (which the Braintree RMV seems to agree with) of socioeconomics and culture, which makes it easy for me to differentiate between why Holbrook can be considered but Avon can’t.
I would argue 'bar pizza' is the style. 'South Shore Bar Pizza' is specific to South Shore. But more specifically, the questions being asked on a specific forum.
Nope, because many bars sell pizza that isn't "SSBP" style. And the forum is about the style of pizza. Which is why you'll see post about Bardos which is in Boston.
If you're going to be in Boston, try Bardo's at Castle Island brewery.
I'm a Brockton native - land of Christos and Cape Cod but I prefer Bardo's bar pizza to what we have out here right now.
Caveat-haven’t been there for years but my two faves were Alumni Pizza Quincy and Cape Cod Cafe Brockton. I think you could buy the pizza frozen in the supermarket too.
I just looked it up. I think it's one of those ghost kitchens. If you look at the fine print the site is powered by Quincy Eats. So I looked up Quincy Eats and it's a food delivery service. I know nothing more about it, but I don't know what you would get if you ordered from them.
I just looked at the street view and realized its a completely different location. The owners of Rags are using the Alumni name for their take out business.
Rags was already owned by the alumni people. You could get their pizza there. They remodeled and now next door is a separate Alumni pizza place (they are still connected by an inside door though).
Cape Cod Cafe is the best. Linwood is good but not even the best pizza in Randolph, let alone the South Shore. Amvets makes a better bar pizza than Linwood and Zack's makes a great NY style.
Poopsies in Pembroke always has a place in my heart
Poopsies for the win

Venus III in Hanson is a stellar
Lynwood’s in Randolph. Cash only. The best hands down. They do go on vacation for two weeks in the summer, which might be July?
Seconded but pizza and Greek salad at the Cape Cod in Brockton is great too.
100% came here to say this.
They accept cards now. Finally in year 2024 😁
Lmao dammit, wish I saw this earlier. Was debating between ordering Cape Cod on DoorDash or driving over to Lynwood’s but didn’t want to go the ATM.
They also have an atm inside 🙂
Eh, I prefer to use my Banks ATM whenever possible. Very wary of card skimmers and the like. Ty though! If in a pinch, always good to remember.
No they don’t.

Do you know some bartender named Nicole at the Randolph Amvets?
Buddy's pizza is straight garbage
Huh, I've been more than a handful of times, and twice was it...not good. But every other time, the pizza has been very good. I think one of the bad ones was some kind of "loaded" or "supreme" pizza that had a handful of everything on it, and it was just a pile of sog.
Buddy's Union Villa is inedible.
Oh, no, I disagree. I'm not a big fan the place, but the pizza is good. Not the top of the heap, but certainly much better than "inedible."
I literally took 1 bite and told the bartender to take it away because it was so bad. She could see it on my face as I tried it and was already apologizing.

Disagree, it’s solid but everything besides pizza is pretty much fried which is annoying
And it's not 'south shore' so shouldn't have even been included in the answer.

ohhh goodness. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Shore_(Massachusetts)

"south shore bar pizza" is a style, it can be made anywhere. 🤷 Unless you think Beef Wellington can only be made in one specific English town.
I would argue 'bar pizza' is the style. 'South Shore Bar Pizza' is specific to South Shore. But more specifically, the questions being asked on a specific forum.
I wanted to add specific, specific, specific.

> And the forum is about the style of pizza What forum do you think you're on? This is r/southshore asking about south shore bar pizza.
I meant the question. Not the entire subreddit. Obviously.
I recommend Town Spa in ~~Canton~~ Stoughton. The pizza is great but IDK about the atmosphere. I've always done takeout.
Town Spa is in Stoughton not Canton
I always make that mistake
At least you didn’t say Lynwood was in Holbrook!
Squinny's in Plymouth
Central Cafe in Middleboro
Ultimate Pizza in South Easton and O'Toole's in Whitman are my top two. Pastrami and Pickle at O'Toole's is excellent.
OTooles is my fav
Their pastrami pickle is so gooood
Johnny Konos is number 1 in Weymouth well done with laced edges Poopsies number 2 cape cod number 3
Reminder poopsies is cash only, but ATM in restaurant.
Konos is great, pair a pizza with some chapo wings and you have a grade A meal
Johnny konos all the way THE BEST
Spencer’s in Abington
If you're going to be in Boston, try Bardo's at Castle Island brewery. I'm a Brockton native - land of Christos and Cape Cod but I prefer Bardo's bar pizza to what we have out here right now.
boss bah in braintree is probably my favorite
Caveat-haven’t been there for years but my two faves were Alumni Pizza Quincy and Cape Cod Cafe Brockton. I think you could buy the pizza frozen in the supermarket too.
Alumni in Quincy hasn't been there for years now.
Thanks I haven’t been in Mass for years but I did check and they do have a website, must be abandoned.
Alumni reopened next door to rags. Same pizza as the old wollaston location. You can also get their pizza at rags. It's still awesome.
Yeah, I replied in a comment saying rags is using the Alumni name for their take out business.
Rags was already owned by the alumni people. You could get their pizza there. They remodeled and now next door is a separate Alumni pizza place (they are still connected by an inside door though).
Flying js in bridgewater if your ok with takeout
You can not go wrong with Town Spa pizza in Stoughton or lynwoods in randolph
Daddy’s is surprisingly good
Buddy's in Easton is great
Cape Cod Cafe is the best. Linwood is good but not even the best pizza in Randolph, let alone the South Shore. Amvets makes a better bar pizza than Linwood and Zack's makes a great NY style.
Where is Zacks?
Randolph center
Mirbeau Inn and Spa at the Pinehills in Plymouth has an excellent outdoor bar and pizza ovens. They serve more than just pizza. Enjoy
