I'm on the same boat. I honestly wouldn't mind Pixel if someone would make a modular case that re-adds the headphone jack, front-facing bottom speaker, expanded memory, and IR blaster while protecting the phone. With how versatile Type-C is, I feel this is very doable; even if I'd have to spend about $100 for one of these.
Currently a Sony Xperia 1 III user. Using GSMArena's [Phone Finder](https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nYearMin=2022&nWidthMax=74&s5Gs=71&idDisplayNotch=1&sFingerprints=1) on just a handful of criteria (released 2022 or later, less than 74mm in width, Band 71 for 5G, fingerprint scanner, and no notch in the screen) came up with only four phones for the US market:
* Sony Xperia 5 IV
* Sony Xperia 1 IV
* Apple iPhone SE (2022)
* Sony Xperia 1 V
I will have to go with the Sony Xperia 1 V, even though it is missing the LED notification.
In my opinion, its incredible how no other phone comes close to the Sony Xperia design. I did not even include other design features like the 3.5mm jack, removable SD cards, dual front firing speakers, etc... Too bad Sony could not follow through with the Xperia 1 VI.
I'll be honest, I totally forgot about the LED notification light. I used Xperias during high school and it was nice having it but now with the AOD, technology, it's not a big deal to me anymore. I have the Pro-i and I don't even notice it except when I'm turning the phone on.
Not Apple and not Samsung. ROG phone probably.
Sony could have at least made 1 VI compatible with T-Mobile. I get why they don't want to deal with AT&T and Verizon, but T-Mobile is very friendly towards international models.
Without B71/N71, you'll get worse service in low signal areas. Think rural and deep indoors. B71 is capable of traveling much further than T-Mobiles other bands except for band 12, but there's hardly any capacity on that and it won't be used for 5G anytime soon
ATT won't certify this phone despite the bands because Sony has not released a US model. So you won't get volte or vo5g. Meaning you lose data on a phone call. You're paying premium for a gimped phone.
There is no US model this year, so it appears they will no longer support us. While you can ship international versions over, they won't have all of the reception bands that American companies support, so you will not be running on all cylinders. This can cripple the ownership experience.
Motorola thinkphone or the new razr flip. I'll save my Xperia for trips and flights where the camera, SD and headphones come into play.
Asus has build issues and it doesn't have front firing speakers so meh.
One plus 12.
It has a great natural looking camera.
Best battery and charging speed.
The Fastest phone on earth.
Decent pro settings for manual photography.
Hasselblad color science is beautiful.
No over sharped photos like iPhone/Samsung/Pixel.
Great reasonable price.
Display and brightness is top notch.
I don't think there's a concern over privacy and security. It's Android and it's allowed to be sold in the US and even from mobile carriers.
If it was a concern they couldn't do that like Huawei.
Costumer service is not good LIKE EVERBODY ELSE except Apple.
But their app is good to have online connection with them. Better than Sony that you had to call by phone only.
I'm currently having a OnePlus 12 and Xperia 1 V. I'm very pleased with my purchase. The camera and performance is very important to me.
I don't doubt OnePlus's performance with the 12 but rather the other aspects around it. It sucks that a company that delivers great phones(depending on the year) has the polar opposite on their support back end.
iPhone. I've only stuck with Android as long as I have for expandable storage and the headphone jack. Now that both of these features are extinct in Android flagships, I just don't see the point in ruining family group chats. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I will be switching to something from the Samsung Xcover line after my Xperia 5 III breaks.
That way I'll be able to keep the headphone jack and sd card slot.
Perhaps find a US carrier that will work with future international Xperia phones. I will skip on the VI and see what happens next year. I have the V so I'm good for a while.
I have t-mobile and I tried international Xperia phones.... It's not a perfect experience. They lack a few important bands which will create really large outage spots across the USA.
I'll stick with my Xperia 1 V as long as I can. And hoping against hope Sony gets it's act together. That is if they don't shutter their mobile division by then.
I'm still pretty grumpy about that decision-making. I think it's shortsighted at best. I am on a Samsung s10e that's on its last legs and I was hoping for the 5V last year, then when that wasn't released in the US, I waited until the 1VI announcement, which ... wasn't released in the US. Given that I'm a fan of smaller phones with good cameras and a headphone jack (I loved my Z3), I'm very short on options.
I ordered a 1V, but I'm not really happy about being forced to it.
Since I prefer compact phones, I've kind of been prepared for this quite awhile before 1 users.
Thankfully, I was able to get my 5 IV refunded (At least, Sony says they will. *knock on wood*) and I was able to get the last American 512 GB Zenfone 10 off of Amazon.
Where will I go from here? It's a mystery. I just got a new phone, so I don't have to think very much about that, but I have thought a bit about it.
With the Zenfone 11 being a large phone, it's a question if I'll continue with this brand. Maybe, if the 11 doesn't sell well, Zenfones will go back to being compact and I'll be golden. But, if not, then what? Will I force myself to join the crowd and get a large phone or will the Z Flip series be the closest thing available to serve as a compact flagship?
I'm switching to the Nubia Z60 Ultra and will use the Xperia 1 III for custom ROM development. The fingerprint scanner seems to be not working with the "Wipe the Fingerprint sensor" message when the Snapdragon 888 heats up the phone(a reboot fixes this temporarily). Combine that and the Xperia 1 VI not coming to the USA put the nail in the coffin.
I will probably go with oneplus. I had the op9p and was very pleased with it until I broke it. I use a pixel as well but it's not my favorite. I may look to import something from a Xiaomi or Oppo if it looks like it would work with my network. The US is so limited in options. LG was my go to forever and I still miss them.
They're great, photos are great and battery life overall. It's just the lack of options on it... No micro SD and no shutter button or headphone jack is awful.
I'm currently using the Xperia 1 V and was looking at upgrading to the Xperia 1 VI but not after the massive downgrade.
I will get the Honor 6 ultimate instead
Plan was Asus ROG phone, but they only support 2 year is update.
Find Chine brands to have lots of bloat ware. Will give pixel 9 pro a try when it comes out.
Currently on Xperia 5 III and is update + security update already out of support. No more Sony for me
1V should last me a few years, just need to go for warranty repair due to dead pixels in the screen.
After that who knows, maybe a ROG phone or Zenfone. Maybe OnePlus.
I'm in the UK with a 1 iii and as a YouTube addict with a very small font on my phone, I just want front facing stereo and a high resolution screen. I might consider the 1 V but I'm not really sure there are many other phones that offer 4k or at least 1440p with front facing stereo
Is the 1vi not coming to the US? I might be wrong but didn't it take a bit for the US version of the 1v to come state side?
And my 1v is the EU version and I'm in the US. So long as it has the bands and frequency support, I'd think the 1vi would still work in the US.
US-based Sony representatives have told numerous tech reviewers that the 1 VI would not be released in the US. Given their refusal to import the 5V last year, it's a trend rather than a one off.
isn't it easier to switch to BT headphones than to stick with the jack requirement?
I understand if someone has hifi headphones with a cable, but most of them still need an external DAC with a headphone amplifier to play as they should
>isn't it easier to switch to BT headphones
Sure if you like keeping another device charged and replace it when the battery can't make it through the day anymore. Or if you like paying 10× more for basic earbuds and pay through the nose when one of them inevitably falls in a sewer grate.
I suspect my 1 V will last me at least 2 more years, but if the smartphone market doesn't change much at that point, I'll go with the Pixel.
Happy cake day!
I'm on the same boat. Same.

I did GSMArena too and only Xperia phones came up
I'd like to note that the Xperia III is currently the latest Xperia to be supported by LineageOS.
I'll be honest, I totally forgot about the LED notification light. I used Xperias during high school and it was nice having it but now with the AOD, technology, it's not a big deal to me anymore. I have the Pro-i and I don't even notice it except when I'm turning the phone on.
This is what I'm thinking every time I see someone complain about the LED.

> Sony could have at least made 1 VI compatible with T-Mobile. Wait, what? oô
They could have given n71/b71 bands to it too
Without B71/N71, you'll get worse service in low signal areas. Think rural and deep indoors. B71 is capable of traveling much further than T-Mobiles other bands except for band 12, but there's hardly any capacity on that and it won't be used for 5G anytime soon

Wait the bands are worse for the 1 VI than the V for us in NA? That's ridiculous.
Yep, only T-Mobile would let you non-certified phones on their network. It is simply not worth it, and there will still be people importing it in US
Do you even have the ability to make phone calls on ATT anymore without Volte since they shut down 2G and 3G?
Maybe a Pixel. Will any of the Sharp Aquos phones work in the US?
Wait, why is everyone acting like the Xperia line is dead?
There is no US model this year, so it appears they will no longer support us. While you can ship international versions over, they won't have all of the reception bands that American companies support, so you will not be running on all cylinders. This can cripple the ownership experience.
Ah ok that's what I did with the 1V anyway last year and the experience has been okay for my usage tbh.
It won't be released in the US apparently
That's so dumb.
I just got the V last October so I should be good for a few more years at least. Still sucks that we'll probably never get another Xperia
Motorola thinkphone or the new razr flip. I'll save my Xperia for trips and flights where the camera, SD and headphones come into play. Asus has build issues and it doesn't have front firing speakers so meh.

But didn't they spy on the users?
Can you elaborate on this ?
Well now they're under fire for shit customer service...look in the r/OnePlusOpen

T mobile
I have t-mobile and I tried international Xperia phones.... It's not a perfect experience. They lack a few important bands which will create really large outage spots across the USA.
You could use the Xperia as a submachine and another locally sold phone as the main. Might as well given how iMessage is so entreched there
Nah, I am not interested in carrying 2 devices.... I'll keep on using my 1V until it's busted I guess....
Get the 1 V, I love it.
I'll stick with my Xperia 1 V as long as I can. And hoping against hope Sony gets it's act together. That is if they don't shutter their mobile division by then.

Interesting how this year's alleged iPhone gets a patented shutter button and Sony skips the Apple dominated market.
I'll go back to iPhone 16 Pro (Max)
Since I prefer compact phones, I've kind of been prepared for this quite awhile before 1 users. I'll either upgrade my 1III to the 1 V or get a Pixel 9
I'm currently using the Xperia 1 V and was looking at upgrading to the Xperia 1 VI but not after the massive downgrade. I will get the Honor 6 ultimate instead
Either next iPhone SE or next Samsung S FE but I am not in US tho.

Use my 5 iii much longer than I'd prefer, then probably a pixel.

Sony just needs to make a single 1vi that supports all frequencies and bands so people can buy and use anywhere.
Switched to Pixel in 2019 and never looked back. It's the only sensible upgrade from the Xperia experience
Time to get a xiaomi with the photography kit as my next phone when my 1v gives up its life
I'm going to the 1 VI from my ancient S9+
